The Sonatina is neo-classical in style, paying homage to Hindemith, a composer who championed neo-classicism in the 1920s and 1930s as a way of building bridges between the music of the past and the present in order to show how the techniques of the classical masters are still revelant to modern composers and players. The Sonatina was originally written for piano - now arranged for saxophone quartet by the composer, Chris Gordon.
