Arranged by Jeff Tincher. Pop,Rock. 16 pages. Jeff Tincher #4286537. Published by Jeff Tincher (A0.583537). This year (2019) marks the 50th anniversary of the most iconic music festival ever, Woodstock. Three days of love, peace and music August 15-18 (actually lasted 3 and 1/2 days) on Max Yasgur's farm in New York. There is a plan to have a celebration to mark the occasion. To commemorate this occasion, this is the first of many arrangements of the iconic songs of the festival that I plan to write. Whenever possible I will use the actually Woodstock recordings as the arrangement. This beautiful song by John Sebastian is the first song on the Woodstock Soundtrack triple album. John was the 4th performer on the second day. This is the third song in his set (according to Wikipedia). It is a simple song that epitomizes the folk music of the time as well as the festival itself. Duration = 2:35. An arrangement for saxophone quartet of the classic Bond song featured in the movie 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' and more recently in 'No Time to Die'. This rhythmical arrangement is faithful to the original structure but adds some colourful twists and turns in the harmony and counterpoint, keeping the players very much on their toes! There is an optional repeat allowing a shorter version that may work better in certain situations eg the entrance of the bride at a wedding ceremony.

Woodwind Quartet - Intermediate - Digital Download By Billie Eilish. Arranged by Graham Boag. Score, Set of Parts. 12 pages. Published by Graham Boag
No Time to Die is a the twenty-fifth instalment in the James Bond film series produced by Eon Productions. It features Daniel Craig in his fifth and final outing as the fictional MI6 agent James Bond. It is directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Rory Kinnear, Jeffrey Wright, Léa Seydoux, and Christoph Waltz reprise their roles from previous films, with Rami Malek, Lashana Lynch, Dali Benssalah, Billy Magnussen, and Ana de Armas joining the cast. <br> <br> <br> <br> The theme song is sung by the American singer Billie Eilish. In January 2019, Eilish told her management that she wanted to be involved "if any Bond things come up…whatever we have to do we will do". When the opportunity did arise, the pair jumped into action to book a recording studio, but it left them "intensely uninspired" and suffering from writer's block. Following this lacklustre day in the studio and they ended up writing and recording the song in a tour bus in Texas, after Finneas came up with an initial chord progression; in just three days the song was written and recorded. Prior to this, the siblings had a meeting with Bond producer Barbara Broccoli, who sent them the script for the opening scene in order to give them a bit of inspiration, which Eilish said was "so cool" and "really, really helpful."<br> <br> Finneas claimed it was useful to go back to listen to previous Bond themes to ensure they were on the right track and did not copy or recreate something which had already been done before, adding that "there are few things in your career that are as desirable as doing a Bond song. We did not take the opportunity lightly and worked as hard as we could to prove ourselves". Eilish also revealed that Daniel Craig himself had a major role in vetting the submissions.

5 Famous Songs by Bach for Baritone Sax Quartet

Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble Baritone Saxophone - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU…

Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble Baritone Saxophone - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1137884 Composed by Christian Petzold, Johann Sebastian Bach, and Martin Luther. Arranged by Ander. Baroque,Easter,Renaissance,Sacred,Wedding. 44 pages. Woods Only, Arrangements #738138. Published by Woods Only, Arrangements (A0.1137884). This album contains 5 of Johann Sebastian Bach's most famous and versatile pieces for baritone quartet, all very well suited for the beginners who want to get to know the baroque repertoire. They are also suitable for performances at events such as: weddings, Christian and church ceremonies, Easter, and academic recitals or concerts. They can be used in music institutions and by teachers as repertoire material and study methods, either for performance or instrumental technique. This collection includes a totally free bonus for you to enjoy: Martin Luther's A Mighty Fortress is Our God, a Renaissance sacred song for choir, which has been adapted for this set. 1: Air on the G String - The original piece is part of Johann Sebastian Bach's Suite No. 3 for orchestra, in D Major, BWV 1068, written for Prince Leopold of Anhalt. The so-called Air on the G String dates from one of these latter employments. In the service of the Prince of Cöthen, Bach composed not only the famous Brandenburg Concertos, but also several orchestral suites, from the third of which comes the Air on the G String. This curious title derives from a later arrangement of this piece for violin solo, in which the melody is played entirely on the lower, higher string of the instrument. 2: Arioso - The Cantata 156 (BWV 156) was written for the third Sunday after Epiphany in 1729, and was first performed on January 23 of that year. The text is by Picander, one of Bach's favorite librettists. Of the four cantatas written by Bach for the feast, it was the last and only one scored for solo voice. This is a choral cantata, employing a choral melody in several movements. Cantata 156, in fact, employs two different choral melodies and texts in the second and sixth movements. A cantata is a sung symphony consisting of several parts, one of which is the Arioso, which is the initial instrumental part. 3: Jesu, joy of man's desiring - This is one of Bach's most beautiful cantatas, made famous by the Jesus the Joy of Men chorus. It was originally composed for Advent 1716 in Weimar. Years later, already in Leipzig, Advent was tempus clausum, there was no music in the churches. Bach then reworked it for the Feast of Mary's Visitation. It is the final chorale of the cantata Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben. Although it is the 32nd cantata composed by Bach, of those that have survived, it was given BWV 147 in the complete catalog of his works. 4: O Jesulein süss, o Jesulein mild - The Jesulein süß, the Jesulein mild is an original traditional German choral melody for voice and continuous bass arranged by Johann Sebastian Bach around 1735. With lyrics by Valentin Thilo, O Jesulein süss is a sacred melody adapted and catalogued as BWV 493. The first translation is by Dirk van Hogendorp, who made it more of a song for the time of suffering. 5: Minuet in G major - This famous piece has traditionally been attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach, as it appears in the Notebook for Anna Magdalena , a notebook that Bach gave to his wife Anna Magdalena in 1725 and which was to be filled with the favorite selections of Bach family members. However, recent research has concluded that this minuet, sometimes referred to as BWV Anhang 114. was probably composed by Christian Petzold, a German composer and organist contemporary with Bach. Bonus: A Mighty Fortress is Our God, by Martin Luther - Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott is a hymn written by Martin Luther probably before 1529. The melody was also considered his work for a long time, but it was created at least with the collaboration of Johann Walter. The song is of great symbolic power for Protestantism, where it is also known as Deus noster refugium et virtus. Considered one of the most important hymns in the history of Christianity, it was considered by the Christian poet Johann Heirich Heine (1797-1856) to be the Marseillaise of the Reformation, in an allusion to the French national anthem.

Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1137887 Composed by Christian Petzold, Johann Sebastian Bach, and Martin Luther. Arranged by Ander. Baroque,Easter,Renaissance,Sacred,Wedding. 44 pages. Woods Only, Arrangements #738143. Published by Woods Only, Arrangements (A0.1137887). This album contains 5 of Johann Sebastian Bach's most famous and versatile pieces for sax quartet, all very well suited for the beginners who want to get to know the baroque repertoire.

Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1257962 Composed by Guillaume de Machaut, 1300-1377. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Chamber,Contest,Early Music,Festival,Historic,Medieval. 85 pages. Jmsgu3 #851199. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1257962). 1. Kyrie2. Gloria3. Credo4. Sanctus5. Agnus dei6. Ite missa estGuillaume de Machaut composed the Messe de Nostre Dame, also known as the Mass of Our Lady, in the early 1360s. He wrote the mass for the Cathedral at Reims, where he served as a canon, a permanent clergy member. According to a rubric found at the Cathedral, it would have likely been performed for the Saturday Lady Mass. Guillaume de Machaut's Messe de Nostre Dame is significant in the history of music for several reasons: It is the first complete setting of the Ordinary of the Mass by a single composer that has survived. It is a unified mass, meaning that the composer selected relevant chants for each section as the borrowed tenor. It was composed in four voices, which was unusual at the time. The texts of both Gloria and Credo are quite lengthy, and therefore Machaut set these movements in a style reminiscent of the earlier discant style, having short phrases, similar rhythmic motion in all parts, and a low ratio of notes per syllable of text, both ending with long, rhapsodic sections for the final word, Amen. Machaut's Messe de Nostre Dame is a landmark in musical history, but it is far from being avant-garde merely for the sake of uniqueness. It is considered to be a culmination of the musical style of the Ars Nova period, which was characterized by complex polyphonic textures and rhythmic innovations. The mass is also significant because it was composed during a time of great political and social upheaval in Europe, and it reflects the changing attitudes towards religion and music during this period. Overall, Machaut's Messe de Nostre Dame is a significant work that represents a culmination of the musical style of the Ars Nova period and reflects the changing attitudes towards religion and music during the 14th century. The mass consists of five movements: Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei, followed by the dismissal Ite, missa est. The tenor of the Kyrie is based on Vatican Kyrie IV, the Sanctus, and Agnus correspond to Vatican Mass XVII, and the Ite is on Sanctus VIII. The Gloria and Credo have no apparent chant basis, although they are stylistically related to one another. The mass is a unified mass, meaning that the composer selected relevant chants for each section as the borrowed tenor. The Messe de Nostre Dame is significant in the history of music because it is the first complete setting of the Ordinary of the Mass by a single composer that has survived. It is also significant because it was composed during a time of great political and social upheaval in Europe, and it reflects the changing attitudes towards religion and music during this period. Overall, the Messe de Nostre Dame was an important part of the liturgical practices of the time, and it is still regarded as a masterpiece of medieval music and of all religious music.

Blues,Contemporary. 19 pages. Jeff Tincher #6018179. Published by Jeff Tincher (A0.584682). Blues in 18/8. That is this composition. A good description of this piece is a structured improvisation-style piece in an odd time signature in the key of D. Right before the key change to B there is a 12/8 measure. At measure 55 there is one measure of 9/8 before we D.C. back to the beginning. There is a lot of glissandos in this piece as well. "Walzer" from Serenade Op. 48 for Saxophone Quartet

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.750630 Composed by P. I. Tchaikovsky. Arranged by Diego Marani. Classical,Contest,Festival,Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards. 15 pages. Diego Marani #358474. Published by Diego Marani (A0.750630). Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings in C Major was written with an ear towards one of his idols, a certain 18th century composer by the name of Mozart. The title and structure of the piece are taken from the serenades of the latter, though this is certainly Tchaikovsky's own particularly 19th century rendering of these older ideas. That it is a masterful work, is demonstrated by the fact that it still remains among the most performed and appreciated by the public alongside the serenades by AntonÃn Dvořák and Josef Suk. The second movement is a gracious waltz that updates the requisite dance movement (which in Mozart's time would have been a stately minuet) to a more contemporary dance form. In any case, the waltz is almost deceptively complex. The harmonic shifts are numerous and often sudden and always deftly crafted. The texture is somewhat of a departure from the previous movement in that there is a discernible lightness of touch in the waltz. This arrangement for sax quartet (Bb Soprano, Eb Alto, Bb Tenor, Eb Baritone) reflects faithfully the original and is suitable for classroom, repertoire and recital.

Greg Woodward #1037714. Published by Greg Woodward (A0.1458779). Tango for Glenn is a tribute to Glenn Gould, whose particular way of playing Bach on piano was so influential in its day. However, it's very much a joyful romp through a range of styles. (The original piece was for piano; this arrangement was made for the local Xyris Saxophone quartet, whose excellent performance is linked below. The original piano piece is also available for sale at Sheet Music Plus). The main theme is in 5/4 and it moves through a range of - mostly - irregular time-signatures, but uses a harmonic and melodic vocabluary strongly influenced by Bach, with lashings of some more jazzy language. There is a brief (two beat long) quote of Paul McCartney's song Blackbird used as thematic material in the second episode, the guitar part of which was also based on a piece by Bach. This would make a fun concert or encore piece.Visit my YouTube page for more performances, arrangements and compositions.

For me, Saxophone Quartet music is also the closest to the human choir. While writing my saxophone quartet I was intrigued to explore the ensemble's technical, timbrel, rhythmical and lyrical aspects. The four saxophones can create a homogeneous texture, but can also express their own individuality and uniqueness. Therefore, the quartet consists of five movements, and four recitatives, one for each saxophone. The recitatives' purpose is double: to feature one saxophone a time on one hand, and lead to the next movement on the other. Saxophone Quartet was commissioned by the Fromm Music Foundation and received its first performance by the Raschèr Saxophone Quartet. Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1421819 Composed by Henry Purcell. Arranged by Robert Stevens. Baroque,Chamber,Classical,Early Music. 32 pages. SAXpress.com #1003167. Published by SAXpress.com (A0.1421819). Suite from Abdelazer Henry Purcell (1659-1695) SATB Saxophone Quartet Suite from Abdelazer by Henry Purcell, arranged for saxophone quartet SATB. Purcell wrote the incidental music for the play Abdelazer (sometimes spelled 'Abdelazar') in 1695, shortly before his death. It is a lively mix of songs and dances of the time. Typical of the day, several of the movements became well known as popular songs. The rondo was later made famous by Benjamin Britten, who used it as the theme for his set of variations, ‘The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra’. The rondo as well as another selection, the Hornpipe, was included in the 2005 film Pride and Prejudice. This transcription for saxophone quartet SATB of Suite from Abdelazar is comprised of five of the ten selections Purcell wrote for the play. The movements are as follows: I. Overture II. Minuet III. Hornpipe IV. Air V. Rondo About the Composer: Henry Purcell (born c. 1659, London, England—died November 21, 1695, London) was an English composer of Baroque music. Purcell's musical style was uniquely English, although it incorporated Italian and French elements. Generally considered among the greatest English opera composers, Purcell is included with John Dunstaple and William Byrd as England's most important early music composers. Later, Purcell's music also had a strong influence on the composers of the English musical renaissance of the early 20th century. The cause of Purcell's untimely death at the age of 36 is unclear. There are many theories, some preposterous (he died from chocolate poisoning), some more likely: he died of tuberculosis. Purcell was universally mourned as a very great master of music.  Following his death, the officials at Westminster honoured him by unanimously voting that he be buried with no expense spared in the north aisle of the Abbey.

Duration: ca. 4:00, Score: 10 pages, Program this for church services during the Easter season, weddings, or as a recital encore.Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme (Awake, the Voice is calling us) also known as: Sleepers Awake Bach composed his church cantata Wachet auf (BWV 140) as part of his second annual cantata cycle covering the entire annual church calendar. It is based on the hymn of the same name by Philipp Nicolai (1599). The hymn text covers the readings for the 27th Sunday after Trinity. Bach designed the cantata in seven movements, setting the stanzas in various forms. Among these forms are the chorale fantasia, the chorale prelude, and a four-part chorale. He casts the new lyrics as recitatives – in a manner similar to the opera. Fourth Movement Bach writes the fourth movement, Zion hört die Wächter singen (Zion hears the watchmen singing), in the style of a chorale prelude with the chorale phrases performed as a strict cantus firmus. The phrases seem to enter at times erratically against the famous lyrical melody. The violins play this melody in unison as a foil against the cantus phrases. The violin melody is so independent and complete that when the cantus melody appears it catches the listener at times totally off-guard. Bach later transcribed this movement for organ (BWV 645). This transcription became No. 1 of the Six Schübler Chorales. Bach Overview First of all, Johann Sebastian Bach is maybe the greatest composer in music history. Certainly, he was prolific. As a result, everyone has heard of his works. Furthermore, these works number well over a thousand. It seems like people are probably most familiar with the instrumental works such as the Brandenburg Concertos, and the Goldberg Variations. But, similarly famous are such noteworthy works as the Well-Tempered Clavier, the Musical Offering, and certainly the Art of Fugue. Seems like his most famous vocal works include the most noteworthy Mass in B Minor. Also, most noteworthy, though, are the St. John Passion, and certainly the Christmas Oratorio. History Bach came from a long line of musicians and above all, composers. Consequently, he, first of all, pursued a career as a church organist. So as a result, he gained employment in various Protestant churches in Germany. For a while, he worked as a court musician in Weimar and Köthen. Here he probably developed his organ style and likewise his chamber music style. Eventually, he, therefore, gained an appointment as Cantor of St. Thomas in Leipzig. Here he worked until difficulties with his employer ultimately drove him away. The King of Poland finally appointed him as court composer. Style It seems like Bach created a fascinating new international style. He synthesized elements of the most noteworthy European music ideas into his new style. Even more, this new style was probably his synthesis of European musical rhythm and form. Furthermore, he demonstrated a complete mastery of counterpoint and motivic development. His sense of harmonic organization probably propelled him to the top. Revival Mendelssohn conducted a Bach revival in the nineteenth century. His effort probably helped to re-familiarize the public with the magnitude of Bach’s works. During this period, scholars published many noteworthy Bach biographies. Moreover, Wolfgang Schmieder published the BWV (Bach Werke Verzeichnis). As a result, this is now the official catalog of his entire artistic output. The BWV number allows us to locate a work in the catalog. Sometimes scholars will simply use an S (Schmieder) as an abbreviation for BWV. Voyager

Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.845238 Composed by Anon. Arranged by Phil Beaman. Christmas,Contemporary,Jazz,Sacred. 35 pages. Phil Beaman #6462341. Published by Phil Beaman (A0.845238). For this Christmas here is a dramatic Fantasia for Instrumental Quartet based on the old English carol God Rest You Merry Gentlemen. It is an eclectic fusion of Classical music and 1950's Free Jazz and West Indian/Caribbean rhythms with exuberance and pulse. It is in verse-refrain form, but is very freely treated and each of the four verses is wholly unique. Every single note is written to express, and sometimes expand upon, the word of the text at that point in time. There is an irregular meter which changes every few bars using 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, and 7/4 but always maintaining a strong pulse. It contains abrupt changes in dynamics and a rubato tempo with many markings of articulation. This is a challenging work with dynamic results.19 page score, 4 pages each part; 35 pages total4:45 minutes

Baroque,Instructional,Sacred. 8 pages. Regis Bookshar #696560. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.1092467). Kyrie - by Francesco Durante; Saxophone Quartet – Intermediate – Digital Download. “Kyrieâ€, originally written for a four-part vocal ensemble by Francesco Durante, has now been transcribed, edited and arranged by Regis Bookshar, for a Saxophone Quartet, consisting of 2 Alto Saxophones and 2 Tenor Saxophones. It would be a welcomed addition to any music library. This short composition, which lasts less than two minutes, will provide many students with the opportunity to practice breath control because of its long phrases, and to help them to continue to develop good intonation because many of the phrases cadence on a unison note. This selection could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services. It is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (8 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from the Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble’s extensive music library which are being made available for the first time. We have performed the Trumpet Quartet version of this composition for many church services, especially funerals, when we were asked to supply something more somber and introspective rather than the louder, more festive music which many people come to expect from a Trumpet Ensemble. Francesco Durante was an Italian composer who was born on March 31, 1684 at Frattamaggiore, in the Kingdom of Naples. At an early age he entered the Conservatorio dei poveri di Gesu Cristo, in Naples, where he received lessons from Gaetano Greco. Later he became a pupil of Alessandro Scarlatti at the Conservatorio di Sant’Onofrio. He is said to have succeeded Scarlatti in 1725 at Sant’Onofrio and to have remained there until 1742, when he succeeded Nicola Porpora as head of the Conservatorio di Santa Maria de Loreto, also in Naples. He held this post for thirteen years, until his death on September 30, 1755. His fame as a teacher was considerable, and, unlike his Neapolitan contemporaries, who attracted international notice with their operas, Francesco Durante achieved recognition through his church music, along with some vocal chamber and instrumental works. His concern was not quantity. A complete collection of Durante’s works, consisting almost exclusively of sacred music, was presented by Gaspare Selveggi, a Neapolitan art collector and music theorist, to the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris. The imperial library of Vienna also preserves a valuable collection of Durante’s manuscripts. The fact that Durante never composed for the stage brought him an exaggerated reputation as a composer of sacred music. He was considered one of the best church composers of his style and period. In his masses, requiems, litanies and Lamentations, he could provide strong expressive moments, as he does in this “Kyrieâ€. In addition to this arrangement for a Saxophone Quartet, Regis Bookshar has also made other arrangements of this selection. There are Quartets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may find something else that may also suit your needs. I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar, as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are being added as often as possible. I’m certain that this beautiful arrangement of Francesco Durante’s “Kyrie†will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.
