Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1431523 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Baroque,Chamber,Contest,Festival,Historic,Standards. 70 pages. Jmsgu3 #1011997. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1431523). BACH: Partita No. 3 BWV 827 Contents: Fantasia, Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Burlesca, Scherzo, Gigue. Bach's Partita No. 3 in A minor, BWV 827, is an essential work in the composer's output for keyboard instruments. Here are some key points about this piece: It is one of the six partitas that Bach composed for harpsichord or clavichord, regarded as pinnacles of Baroque keyboard music. The Partita No. 3 consists of seven movements following the traditional partita structure: Allemande, Corrente, Sarabande, Burlesca, Scherzo, Gigue. The Burlesca movement is particularly notable, featuring rapid hand-crossing and a lively, humorous character unusual for Bach's works. The Sarabande movement is considered one of Bach's most profound and expressive, with its rich harmonies and emotional depth. The final Gigue is a tour de force of contrapuntal writing, with multiple melodic lines interwoven in a lively dance rhythm. With the other partitas, BWV 827 demonstrates Bach's mastery of various dance forms and his ability to elevate them into profound artistic statements. So, in summary, Bach's Partita No. 3 stands out for its structural complexity, emotional range, and virtuosic demands, cementing its place among the composer's most outstanding keyboard achievements.

Divertimento for Saxophone Quartet

Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.755222 Com…

Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.755222 Composed by Sy Brandon. 20th Century,Contemporary. 95 pages. Sy Brandon #3418983. Published by Sy Brandon (A0.755222). Divertimento is in three movements. The first movement Frolic has three main thematic ideas. The first contains dotted rhythms, staccato articulation, and meter change. The second thematic idea is related to the first in that it also uses dotted rhythms and meter change, but is more legato and begins with more sustained notes. The third thematic section is thinner in texture, more playful, and has a legato theme over a staccato background. The motivic material in each of these sections has similarities. Contrast is primarily obtained through change of style and mood. These thematic ideas develop throughout the movement by varying key, instrumentation, and melodic material. There are several sections of imitation that are very energetic. The second movement Ballad is lyrical at an Andante tempo. The form of the movement is through-composed as the motives develop into new variations instead of having clearly distinguished themes. There is however a recapitulation that brings the listen back to the opening material. The main motives that develop are a sixteenth note pattern that is arpeggiated and also stepwise, a dotted quarter and eighth note idea that is often on weak beats as well as appearing on strong beats, and scalewise eighth note lines. All of these interweave among the parts with frequent counterpoint and some imitation. The harmony is lush with seventh chords used frequently. The last movement Tarantella is in a lively tempo. The form of this movement is a large ABA(Scherzo, Trio, Scherzo). The A sections are in triple meter while the B section is in duple. The A section is in three parts, forming an ABA within the large A. The material for the first part is motivically derived. The first motive is a dotted eighth, sixteenth, eighth note followed by even eighth notes. The second motive is four chromatic sixteenth notes followed by an eighth note. This motive appears both ascending and descending. The B section within this large A consists of a slurred melodic line that has both stepwise motion and leaps. It is accompanied by staccato chromatic eighth notes. The large B section is folksong-like and is in a recognizable binary form that repeats in a new key. The large A serves as a recapitulation of the opening section and it ends lightly and playfully in keeping with the Divertimento title that means to divert or amuse.

Saxophone quartet Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.764652 Composed by Cecile Chaminade. Arranged by James Pybus. 20th Century,Contest,Festival. 26 pages. James Pybus #35431. Published by James Pybus (A0.764652). Cécile Louise Stéphanie Chaminade (8 August 1857 – 13 April 1944) was a French composer and pianist. Born in Paris, she studied at first with her mother, then with Félix Le Couppey on piano, Marie Gabrie Augustin Savard, Martin Pierre Marsick on violin, and Benjamin Godard in music composition, but not officially, since her father disapproved of her musical education. Her teacher, Benjamin Goddard gave her an assignment to complete, a ballet symphonique, Callirhoë, Op. 37 (1888) that enjoyed many performances which added to its success. Movements from this work were extracted and fashioned for solo piano, namely Pas des écharpes, (Scarf Dance) and Pas des amphores, (Amphora Dance), both of which became popular staples of the piano repertory. This arrangement written in 2014 is playable by either SATB or AATB saxophone quartet. The original key has been changed to a more saxophone-friendly key. Thank you to my friend Mr. Freddy Gruenebaum, leader of the Saxophonia Quartet, based in Huntington Beach, California, for suggesting this wonderful composer’s work to me. Nimrod from Enigma Variations Op. 36 for Saxophone Quartet

Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1124310 Composed by Edward Elgar. Arranged by Robert Luke Thompson. 19th Century,Chamber,Classical,Film/TV,Patriotic. 10 pages. Monkspath Music #725064. Published by Monkspath Music (A0.1124310). Sir Edward Elgar’s compositional output was prolific, with many well-known pieces, including the Pomp & Circumstance marches, Dream of Gerontius, and of course, the Engima Variations. Elgar’s legacy has been widely debated, but there is no doubt of his influence on ‘English’ music and composers such as Ralph Vaughan Williams, but also further afield, on composers as diverse as Richard Strauss, Jean Sibelius, and Igor Stravinsky. Along with a central theme woven and varied throughout the work, each movement of Engima Variations is also a musical illustration, based on a family member or close friend of Elgar, and indeed Elgar himself. He dedicated the work “to my friends pictured withinâ€. “Nimrod†is the name given to the ninth movement, based on Elgar’s editor and publisher, Augustus J, Jaeger. Musically, there is an obvious hint at the 2nd movement of Beethoven’s Piano Sonata Pathetique, but beyond this there are beautiful legato lines spread across the whole ensemble and a wide variety of timbral, dynamic, and tempo colourations. “Nimrod†has become a popular piece as a standalone item – often featuring in funerals, memorial services, and other solemn events such as Remembrance Sunday. Hans Zimmer also adapts the piece for use in the score for the 2017 film Dunkirk, and has become a standard tune to represent stoic ‘Britishness’. Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549860 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Baroque,Concert,Easter,Sacred,Wedding. 14 pages. Jmsgu3 #3557041. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549860). Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme (Awake, the Voice is calling us) from Cantata BWV 140. Duration: ca. 4:00, Score: 10 pages, Program this for church services during the Easter season, weddings, or as a recital encore.Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme (Awake, the Voice is calling us) also known as: Sleepers Awake Bach composed his church cantata Wachet auf (BWV 140) as part of his second annual cantata cycle covering the entire annual church calendar. It is based on the hymn of the same name by Philipp Nicolai (1599). The hymn text covers the readings for the 27th Sunday after Trinity. Bach designed the cantata in seven movements, setting the stanzas in various forms. Among these forms are the chorale fantasia, the chorale prelude, and a four-part chorale. He casts the new lyrics as recitatives – in a manner similar to the opera. Fourth Movement Bach writes the fourth movement, Zion hört die Wächter singen (Zion hears the watchmen singing), in the style of a chorale prelude with the chorale phrases performed as a strict cantus firmus. The phrases seem to enter at times erratically against the famous lyrical melody. The violins play this melody in unison as a foil against the cantus phrases. The violin melody is so independent and complete that when the cantus melody appears it catches the listener at times totally off-guard. Bach later transcribed this movement for organ (BWV 645). This transcription became No. 1 of the Six Schübler Chorales. Bach Overview First of all, Johann Sebastian Bach is maybe the greatest composer in music history. Certainly, he was prolific. As a result, everyone has heard of his works. Furthermore, these works number well over a thousand. It seems like people are probably most familiar with the instrumental works such as the Brandenburg Concertos, and the Goldberg Variations. But, similarly famous are such noteworthy works as the Well-Tempered Clavier, the Musical Offering, and certainly the Art of Fugue. Seems like his most famous vocal works include the most noteworthy Mass in B Minor. Also, most noteworthy, though, are the St. John Passion, and certainly the Christmas Oratorio. History Bach came from a long line of musicians and above all, composers. Consequently, he, first of all, pursued a career as a church organist. So as a result, he gained employment in various Protestant churches in Germany. For a while, he worked as a court musician in Weimar and Köthen. Here he probably developed his organ style and likewise his chamber music style. Eventually, he, therefore, gained an appointment as Cantor of St. Thomas in Leipzig. Here he worked until difficulties with his employer ultimately drove him away. The King of Poland finally appointed him as court composer. Style It seems like Bach created a fascinating new international style. He synthesized elements of the most noteworthy European music ideas into his new style. Even more, this new style was probably his synthesis of European musical rhythm and form. Furthermore, he demonstrated a complete mastery of counterpoint and motivic development. His sense of harmonic organization probably propelled him to the top. Revival Mendelssohn conducted a Bach revival in the nineteenth century. His effort probably helped to re-familiarize the public with the magnitude of Bach’s works. During this period, scholars published many noteworthy Bach biographies. Moreover, Wolfgang Schmieder published the BWV (Bach Werke Verzeichnis). As a result, this is now the official catalog of his entire artistic output. The BWV number allows us to locate a work in the catalog. Sometimes scholars will simply use an S (Schmieder) as an abbreviation for BWV. Voyager

Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.764755 Composed by Maurice Ravel (1875-1937). Arranged by James Pybus. 20th Century,Contemporary. 64 pages. James Pybus #6711845. Published by James Pybus (A0.764755). Le Tombeau de Couperin is a suite originally for piano, composed between 1914 and 1917. Each of its six movements is dedicated to the memory of friends of the composer who had died fighting in World War 1. Ravel himself was an army driver during the war. Tombeau is a musical term popular in the 17th century meaning a piece written as a memorial. It was Ravel's intention to pay tribute to his friends and pay homage to the sensibilities of the Baroque French keyboard suites, of which Couperin was a master; this is reflected in the six-movement structure of Ravel's piece. This arrangement for SATB Saxophone Quartet includes the Fugue, Forlane and Toccata. The Prelude, Menuet and Rigaudon are available on SMP Press in another arrangement under separate cover. This challenging work is an excellent showpiece for Saxophone Quartet and will enhance a variety of concert and performance settings. Duration: 12:13. Contact me at james.pybus56@gmail.com

Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Baroque,Chamber,Contest,Festival,Historic,Standards. 54 pages. Jmsgu3 #1011662. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1431199). BACH: Partita No. 2 BWV 826 Contents: Sinfonia, Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Rondeau, Capriccio. Bach's Partita No. 2 in C minor, BWV 826, is an essential work for several reasons: Significance in Bach's Oeuvre It is part of Bach's monumental collection of six partitas (suites) for the keyboard, considered among music history's most famous and challenging suites. The partitas were published as Bach's Opus 1 in 1731, showcasing the diversity of forms and ingenious counterpoint in his keyboard writing. Partita No. 2 was one of the earliest partitas to be published individually in 1727, highlighting its significance. Musical Characteristics It opens with a grand Sinfonia movement akin to a French overture, followed by an expressive Andante aria-like movement. The fugue movement has an intense subject spanning a minor 9th interval. It includes a double (ornamented variation) of the traditional Sarabande dance movement. The final Capriccio movement is a virtuosic and contrapuntal concerto-like piece testing the performer's technical prowess. Overall, the partita exhibits a weighty, substantial, and momentous character compared to the first. Influence and Legacy It expanded keyboard suites' technical and musical boundaries along with the other partitas. Due to its artistic merit and challenges, it has remained a pinnacle of the keyboard repertoire, studied and performed by generations of musicians. In summary, Bach's Partita No. 2 is a significant work that exemplifies the composer's mastery of counterpoint, variation forms, and virtuosic keyboard writing, solidifying the partitas' enduring importance in the canon of Western classical music.

EMK Music #845109. Published by EMK Music (A0.1250837). Scored for two Alto Saxophones, Tenor and Baritone Saxophones, there are alternative parts three and four so it can be played by four Alto Saxophones. This is very handy for teachers of groups of like instruments. PREMIER QUARTET as the title suggests is the first wind quartet by the composer. Â The quartet is based on the opening six notes which are restated in various guises throughout the three movements. Â The instrumental ranges are comfortable with some interesting solo and rhythmic challenges to excite enthusiastic young musicians.

Saxophone quartet - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q6888 4 Mantras for Saxophone Quartet. Composed by Enjott Schneider. This edition: score and parts. Downloadable, Score and parts. Duration 16 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q6888. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q6888). 'Panta rhei - everything is in a state of flux' is the bottom line of what the Greek philosopher Heraclitus believed. 'Everything is in a continual state of flux and change' - to him, this was 'logos', rational order. It is at the interface between personal thought and archaic ritual that the four mantras for saxophone quartet have been created. In Hinduism and Buddhism, 'mantras' are sacred sentences, key messages, 'instruments of thought and speech'. They were addressed to the deities as a form of worship and way of concentration and mainly consist of continuously repeated syllables and words. With this in mind, each movement in 'Panta rhei' has been given a principal motif (especially a basic rhythmic gesture) which is repeated in variations and cycles but always differently - in a perpetual state of flux. (Enjott Schneider).
