This pleasant and lively composition is divided into five parts, a small rondo form. The first theme is in Zi-pentatonic mode, mainly play by flute. The main theme is later transposed a fifth higher and orchestrated between the oboe, clarinet and bassoon parts. The second theme is in a slower, more sentimental mood. It builds up as a contrast section to the first theme. French horn plays the traditional Wedding Song of the Puyuma tribe and dominates in this section. In the third part of this composition, the melodic line returns to the first theme, transformed to D-flat Zi-pentatonic mode. The oboe plays the main theme and later the clarinet plays the variations of this melodic line. The fourth section brings out the third theme of this piece: a traditional Atayal tribe’s Jew Harp Song melody that plays by the bassoon. This passionate, fast-tempo dancing theme is then composed into several variations and plays by oboe and clarinet. In the last section of the composition, the first theme returns again. Building up and reaches the climax then leads to the final of the piece. Professor Ma selected two aboriginal tribal songs, related to weddings and love, and quoted them in this piece and presented as a wedding gift for his beloved son. This father-son relationship and love, and also this unique composition, made that wedding ceremony a memorable event for the guests. This piece was premiered in 2002 at The Landis Taipei Hotel by Fu-Ming Huang (Flute), Chien-Chih Hung (Oboe), Jen-Hwa Huang (Clarinet), Yi-Fen Kuo (Bassoon) and Yih-Duen Huang (Horn).

I Had Much Grief, Cantata BWV 21. „Ich hatte viel Bekümmernis, BWV 21. „Sinfonia This work marks a transition between motet style on biblical and hymn text to operatic recitatives and arias on contemporary poetry. Bach catalogued the work as „e per ogni tempo „and for all times, indicating that due to its general theme, the cantata is suited for any occasion. With its distinctive gesture of descent and the plaintive lines of the oboe and violin, the Sinfonia, held in dark minor, sets a tone of pain that is characteristic of the cantata. With its emotional depth and formal wealth, the cantata I had much grief is almost a solitaire in Bach's church music. Performed in Weimar in 1714 and later rearranged several times, it is also suitable as a compositional business card due to its high standards and its shape, which is representative of various types of sentences, and could therefore be related to Bach's application. Bach performed the cantata on 17 June 1714, as his fourth work in a series of monthly cantatas for the Weimar court which came with his promotion to concert master. The Work was transposed to D minor during the Köthen years, and used in November 1720 for a performance in Hamburg to apply for the position as organist at St. Jacobi. As Thomaskantor in Leipzig, Bach performed the cantata again on his third Sunday in office on 13 June 1723. For this performance, he also changed the instrumentation, adding „for example four trombones to double the voices in the fifth stanza of the hymn. This version was used in several revivals during Bach's lifetime and is mostly performed today. From the plaintive sinfonia to the arias and duets touching in their pain and charm to the speaking rhythmic psalm and chorus choirs, a development arc spans that transforms suffering and grief into consolation and trust and culminates in an apotheosis reminiscent of Handel of the victorious lamb, Hardly ever has Bach put the process of a relentless self-questioning and spiritual healing as convincingly as here. This arrangement of the sinfonia is intended for modern instruments. The original score was translated into modern music literature standards thus simplifying the approach and helping to understand the legacy of baroque music in our modern times. A few embellishments and interpretation symbols where added thus mostly shortening the length of some notes. Some „fortes and „pianos are also included. The arrangement is absolutely faithful to Bach`s versions, not adding or omitting any notes from the original sources. P.S.- The score was written on Finale. The sound file was produced with samplers from Garritan, merely as an audio support for the presentation of the score. It portrays a cowboy and his burro (donkey) sauntering through the Grand Canyon, coming across an oasis and a lonely cabin where they hear a music box playing, before continuing their journey. But throughout there are interruptions by the unrest and displeasure that surrounds the harmonious flow.Who Am I This Time? is a short story from Vonnegut’s 1961 collection entitled Welcome to the Monkey House. It is a beautiful, yet quirky, love story. This movement explores a multitude of duets, symbolizing the two main characters as they maneuver through their courtship. It is a slow dance. In one of the few literal musical depictions in this suite, the questioning final chord represents both the title, and the last line of the story.The third movement is inspired by Breakfast of Champions, a 1973 novel that explores a mul- titude of themes through the eyes and actions of a prosperous midwestern car salesman and an obscure science fiction writer. The music is off and running from the start with a rhythmic them that reappears and connects the various diversions.

He arranged a lot of French Christmas Carols (Noels) as 2 suites _ Noels sur les instruments and Noels pour les instruments for a string orchestra and 2 flutes/recorders. This is my transcription of the Noëls sur les instruments for standard wind quintet.
