Flute,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549725 Composed by Gabriel Faure. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Contemporary,Multicultural,Romantic Period,Standards,World. Score and part. 22 pages. Jmsgu3 #3531379. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549725). Duration: ca. 7:00, Score: 12 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano: 7 pages. An epic choice for a recital or funeral. Fauré Background: In the first place, Gabriel Fauré 1845 –1924) was a famous French composer, musician, and educator. Furthermore, his musical ideas influenced numerous 20th-century composers. Therefore, historians regard him as one of the leading French composers of his time. Famous Works: Among his most famous compositions, by and large, are the Pavane, Elegie (op. 24), Requiem, Sicilienne, Nocturnes for piano and the songs Après un rêve and Clair de lune. Inasmuch as his early works are well-known and relatively easy to perform, Faure’s music seems to have become gradually more difficult during his later life. In other words, his later works are somewhat esoteric and complex. Early Home Life: Fauré was in fact born into a well-cultivated family. His aptitude for music became particularly clear early on - when he was still a boy. Under these circumstances, his parents sent him to a music institution in Paris. Consequently, the training he received there prepared him for a career as a church organist and choirmaster. Middle Life: It is important to realize that Fauré studied music composition with the French musical mastermind Camille Saint-Saëns, who became his lifelong friend. Fauré eventually graduated from college and earned a living as an organist and educator. During this period, he had, on the whole, little time to compose. He consequently became more successful in his middle age, becoming organist of the Église de la Madeleine and director of the Paris Conservatoire. However, he still needed time on balance for composing. Therefore, given these points, he withdrew to the countryside during the summer to focus on composing. Later Life: Fauré was, in the final analysis, recognized in France as the foremost French composer of his time. The French government held a national musical tribute particularly for him in Paris. The French President notably headed the ceremony. Elsewhere, on the contrary, Fauré's music was slow to become accepted, except of course, in England. Legacy: Historians often describe Fauré's music in general as a transition between the end of Romanticism and the beginning of modernism. As an illustration, when Fauré was born, Chopin was still composing. However, by the time of Fauré's death, jazz and atonal music, in particular, had come to fruition. Fauré, by all means, suffered from increasing deafness in his later years. Some musicologists believe this to be indeed the cause of the esoteric nature of Faure’s final works.

Flute Duet Flute - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.582193 Composed by John Field. Arranged by John Gibson. Classical,Instructional. Score. 44 pages. JB Linear #6331643. Published by JB Linear (A0.582193). John Field was born in Ireland in 1782. He was a fine pianist and has been known as one of the early originators of the Nocturne. His 18 Nocturnes for piano is composed in such a way as the melody is carried mostly by the right hand while the left hand produces a harmony figure. This makes these pieces likely ones to arrange as instrumental duets. What I had in mind was a set of pieces for a student playing the lead 1st part and their teacher playing the accompaniment. You will find the student or 1st part is similar in style and playing level as the slow etudes of the 32 Rose Etudes. There are 5 nocturnes in this setting. There is a score, however, due to page turns, the separate parts are more useful.

This album compiles works for solo instruments like the piano in Sonatina and Variations and pieces for duets like the clarinet and piano in the six nocturnes written for this instrument combination. The album ends with a trio for flute, cello and piano, a piece with great emotional content and an exquisitely accomplished instrumental dialog. Once again, the conceptual language is academic, but as we listen we can count on the freshness of its musical nature. Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Bassoon,Clarinet,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1468452 Composed by Frederic Chopin. Arranged by Ray Thompson. Classical,Romantic Period,Wedding. 10 pages. RayThompsonMusic #1046771. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1468452). Arranged wind quintet.Chopin wrote 21 nocturnes for solo piano between 1827 and 1846. They are generally considered among the finest short solo works for the instrument and hold an important place in contemporary concert repertoire. Although Chopin did not invent the nocturne, he popularized and expanded on it, building on the form developed by Irish composer John FieldThis is probably Chopin's best loved Nocturne, if not his best known piece.Unlike other arrangements you may find, my arrangement shares the melody amongst flute, clarinet and oboe. The horn provides harmony throughout, has one bar of solo, and takes the bass line for a time. The bassoon provides a mainly sustained bass line, as an impression of the piano pedal, rather than isolated quavers.I have NOT simply copied Chopins original quaver figures (in the original left hand piano) but have created an original piece as though it had been composed for wind instruments! The quintet do NOT play TUTTI all the time: this gives a more interesting and varying sound palette.ENJOY.

Violin and orchestra - Digital Download Completed and orchestrated after the sketches of Debussy by Robert Orledge. Composed by Robert Orledge and Claude Debussy (1862-1918). Arranged by Robert Orledge. This edition: vocal/piano score. Violin Library. Downloadable. Duration 10 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q46518. Published by Schott Music - Digital
The Belgian violinist, Eugene Ysaye (1858-1931), with his impressive blend of virtuosity and poetry, was a great admirer of the young Debussy's music who led the Paris premiere of his only string quartet in December 1893. In September 1892, Debussy was planning an American tour with the financial support of Prince Andre Poniatowski that was to include his 'nearly completed three Scenes au crepuscule', inspired by the Symbolist poetry of his friend Henri de Regnier. He made 'extensive revisions' to them in 1893, even if all that seems to have survived is a series of sketches in Bibliotheque Nationale de France, MS 20632(2), most of which appear to be for violin and orchestra in E or B major. Another related, and more virtuosic, theme emerged in a Parisian sale in June 2006, which opens the main part of the present Nocturne (after a slow introduction).

We also learn from Ernest Chausson in April 1893 that Debussy was composing a work for Ysaye's first American tour in 1894-95, which at one stage was described as a 'concerto'. Then, as Debussy was putting the finishing touches to L'Apres-midi d'un faune in 1894, he told Ysaye he was now working on 'three Nocturnes for solo violin and orchestra which are destined for you', and which undoubtedly derived from his earlier 'Twilight scenes'. The first was to be 'for strings only'. the second for three flutes, four horns, three trumpets and two harps. the third combines all these instruments'. He also informed Ysaye, perhaps with Whistler's Nocturnes in mind, that they were to be like 'a study in grey in painting'. Debussy only abandoned this project in November 1896 after Ysaye told him he would not be able to premiere the Nocturnes in Brussels 'for financial reasons'.

My completion comes closest to the third Nocturne Debussy planned and to being a rondo with related episodes. The dynamic idea that emerged in 2006, which was scored by Debussy, leads naturally into the 'twilight' theme in B major beginning on solo cello and doublebasses, with the high, haunting three-note idea first heard at the outset floating above on solo violin, exactly as Debussy conceived it. All five of Debussy's themes are harmonized and they vary in length between three and thirteen bars: none of them relate to the orchestral Nocturnes of 1897-99. Rather than develop any of these themes, they are presented in changing harmonic backgrounds in the contemporary manner of L'Apres-midi d'un faune, and the whole work centres on an expansive scalar which joins the various aspects of Debussy's 'twilight' themes together in a new perspective.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Bassoon,Clarinet,Flute,Horn,Oboe,Piccolo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1298050 Composed by Erik Satie. Arranged by Ray Thompson. 20th Century,Chamber. 12 pages. RayThompsonMusic #887972. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1298050). La belle excentrique (The Eccentric Beauty) is a dance suite for small orchestra by French composer Erik Satie. A parody of music hall clichés, it was conceived as a choreographic stage work and by modern standards can be considered a ballet.Satie gave it the whimsical subtitle fantaisie sérieuse (A Serious Fantasy). It was premiered at the Théâtre du Colisée in Paris on June 14, 1921, conducted by Vladimir Golschmann. The composer later arranged it for piano four hands.Satie composed this set of solo dances between July and October 1920. It was a high-spirited throwback to his turn-of-the-century cabaret idiom after a brief serious period that had produced the cantata Socrate (1918) and the piano Nocturnes (1919). The suite consists of three dances (march, waltz, can-can) and an instrumental ritornello.1. Grande ritournelle (Grand Ritornello) (This one)2. Marche franco-lunaire (Franco-Lunar March)3. Valse du mysterieux baiser dans l'œil (Waltz of the Mysterious Kiss in the Eye)4. Cancan Grand-Mondain (High-Society Cancan)Arranged wind quintet with piccolo, but could be played on flute if no piccolo available.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1303701 Composed by Erik Satie. Arranged by Ray Thompson. 20th Century,Chamber,Comedy. 31 pages. RayThompsonMusic #893257. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1303701). Arranged standard wind quintet.Flute doubles on piccolo in the Ritournelle.La belle excentrique (The Eccentric Beauty) is a dance suite for small orchestra by French composer Erik Satie. The suite consists of three dances (march, waltz, can-can) and an instrumental ritornello. Grande ritournelle (Grand Ritornello)1. Marche franco-lunaire (Franco-Lunar March) 2. Valse du mysterieux baiser dans l'œil (Waltz of the Mysterious Kiss in the Eye)3. Cancan Grand-Mondain (High-Society Cancan)Great fun to perform.
