Published by Phil Beaman (A0.1149690). Walking In Her Garden is a piano solo arrangement of the 1904 hit pop song by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, which was originally a waltz ballad for voice and piano. I have converted the main theme into an oom-pah-pah waltz and greatly increased the tempo to a brisk concert waltz. The B theme resorts to a waltz ballad similar to the original. There is then a brief recapitulation of the oom-pah-pah theme, and a soft lento ballad ending. This is a great concert piece full of passion and energy. 4 page score; 2:20 minutes This piece is also found in my book, Carrie Jacobs-Bond, Popular Songs 1900-1925, a collection of 51 of her songs I have arranged for piano solo, which is also available on this site.

Â Then she starts talking to the flowers, asking them about her lover. Â It concludes with the famous he loves me...he loves me not.... as she plucks the petals from the daisy. Â My arrangement adds quite a bit of drama to the piece. Â I have converted the main theme into an oom-pah-pah waltz and greatly increased the tempo to a brisk concert waltz for the first two verses. Â The B theme, where she talks to the flowers, resorts to a slower waltz ballad similar to the original. Â There is then a brief recapitulation of the oom-pah-pah theme building up to the suspenseful climax. Â I created a lento ending as the answers to her questions slowly unfold. Â This is a great concert piece full of passion and energy that can be dramatized. It has a traditional march format after an optional fun opening. The first section is a bit like an orchestra tuning up. The band should walk on at different times and start tuning up while the percussion make noises. The MD should walk on briskly after everyone else and bring his hands up at which point the band should immediately stop what they are doing and get ready to play on the downbeat. From then on it is straightforward. It can be used to open either half of a concert and the messing about can be missed out altogether.

This arrangement of the opening of Mussorgsky's best-known work is ideally suited as an opening or closing statement piece for a group of 4 early-intermediate trombones (1 bass trombone or tuba) or other bass clef instruments. It stays true to the original piece with adaptations in range for developing players and an adapted ending better suited for standalone performance. The estimated duration of the performance is 1m 30s.Pictures at an Exhibition is a suite of pieces for piano based on pictures by Mussorgsky's friend Viktor Hartmann, who died suddenly in 1873, aged 39. A memorial exhibition of Hartmann's works was staged in St. Petersburg the following year, and Mussorgsky's suite depicts walk around it, viewing 10 pictures in total. In addition to the pieces inspired by individual pictures, the suite contains several variations of the 'Promenade' theme, which depicts Mussorgsky roving through the exhibition, now leisurely, now briskly in order to come close to a picture that had attracted his attention, and at times sadly, thinking of his departed friend. (Vladimir Stasov). This arrangement presents the opening version of the 'Promenade', adapted to suit a group of 4 trombones (1 bass trombone or tuba) or similar group of bass clef instruments. The ranges have been reduced to accommodate young or developing players. The 1st part goes no higher than F4, and the bass part no lower than Bb1 (optionally A1).
