Slavonic dances are inspired by the folk rhythms and styles of Slavic nations, This wonderful piece composed in 1886 is one of the finest and most well known. It has been arranged for early intermediate players, although the whole score is on the youtube link for you to assess. I have written it in 3/4 time instead of the original 3/8 for ease of reading. The phrasing has been adapted to keep as close to the original as possible. There are also small variations in the final section to keep the arrangement cohesive. Â It has been covered in so many ways for such a variety of instrumental combinations as it's such a popular memorable piece. It is useful for concerts, recitals, weddings, incidental music etc.It is roughly 5 minutes in length.Price is for the full score and parts.

A barcarolle is a traditional folk song sung by Venetian gondoliers, characterized by a rhythm reminiscent of the gondolier's stroke, almost invariably in 6/8 meter at a moderate tempo. or an instrumental piece composed in the same classical style. This modern Barcarolle, is a soft lilting Barcarolle in 6/8 time. It is in concert E flat major and in ternary form. After a gentle introduction the main theme begins with the instruments sharing the melodic line before eventually harmonising. These outer sections provide a lilting, rocking type mood to set the character of the piece. The middle section by contrast, has a lot more movement for variety but keeps within the style of the Barcarolle. On return of the main theme once more the piano takes the melody with small embellishments by the individual parts before a gentle conclusion. It is around 5 minutes long. The ornamentation is all in the upper melody; the lower part is a fun contrapuntal walking bass line of entirely quarter notes (crotchets). I have arranged it into ABBA form.

Arranged double wind quintet/bass The Slavonic Dances (Czech: Slovanské tance) are a series of 16 orchestral pieces composed by AntonÃn Dvořák in 1878 and 1886 and published in two sets as Op. 46 and Op. 72 respectively. Originally written for piano four hands, the Slavonic Dances were inspired by Johannes Brahms's own Hungarian Dances and were orchestrated at the request of Dvořák's publisher soon after composition. The pieces, lively and full of national character, were well received at the time and today are considered among the composer's most memorable works, occasionally making appearances in popular culture. Contrary to what the title might suggest, the dances are not so much inspired by Slavic folk music generally, but specifically by styles and forms from Bohemia. In these pieces, Dvořák never actually quotes folk melodies, but evokes their style and spirit by using traditional rhythmic patterns and structures in keeping with traditional folk dances.This is my arrangement of No 3 Polka from the first set Op.46 In Simrock's original edition of the piano duet, no. 3 was the D major Sousedská and no. 6 the A flat major Polka - an order apparently approved by Dvořák. Their positions were reversed in the orchestral version. The term polka referring to the dance is derived from the Czech word Polka meaning Polish woman (feminine form corresponding to Polák, a Pole). Czech cultural historian ÄŒenÄ›k ZÃbrt also attributes the term to the Czech word půlka (half), referring to both the half-tempo 2 4 and the half-jump step of the dance.[2] The word was widely introduced into the major European languages in the early 1840s.
