Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.941527 Composed by Harry Salotti. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary. Score and parts. 16 pages. Harry Salotti #6207645. Published by Harry Salotti (A0.941527). An American Rondo is written for Brass Quintet. The style of the piece is similar to the Cheetham Scherzo and the Frackenpohl Brass Quintet. It is three minutes long. It follows a standard rondo form. There are four themes with the primary theme returning several times. The range of each part is about two octaves. The only real technical challenge is the many meter changes that occur in the piece. An American Rondo is a tonal, upbeat piece mainly in a major key. Listen to the audio file and hear some new American music for your quintet and your audiences.

Published by Jonathan S. Laflamme (A0.971616). OUR NATION’S ANTHEM The Star Spangled Banner Every Band Director is entrusted with the fundamental instillation of the importance of our Nation’s Anthem to not only the musicians under his or her direction but also the audience that often varies from a concert to a community gathering and often times a sporting event. As the lives of Americans get busier and busier ‘perfect’ instrumentation at the aforementioned venues increasingly becomes more of a challenge to maintain the integrity required of any performance of the ‘Star Spangled Banner.’ This arrangement will sound great with almost any instrumentation!

Piano Trio No. 1 Poets and Prophets (piano score – piano, vln, cel) MO160APiano Score (parts available)Music by Mark O’Connor51 pages - 29:00 minutes in lengthI. Man In BlackII. The Tennessee TwoIII. My JuneIV. Hello, I’m Johnny CashPiano Trio No. 1 (Poets and Prophets) was composed by Mark O’Connor during the Fall of 2003. The piece was commissioned for the Eroica Trio by a noted patron for music, Kathryn Gould of Palo Alto, California. The world premiere took place at the Montalvo Chamber Music Series in California, March 5th, 2004. In a letter to the members of the trio dated 9/20/03, Mr. O’Connor lays out his plan for the new music. My initial ideas have sort of exploded in to the entire concept of the music with a real impact actually. Now I am piecing together the parts of it and then will eventually work on detail as I get the overall form under wrap. Here is what my inspiration for the music is; Johnny Cash.Johnny was a boyhood hero of mine, I used to sing his songs when I was 8, 9 and 10 years old, and played the guitar like him (sometimes up the fretboard strumming away). My mom used to help me transcribe all the lyrics off the albums, she also thought he hung the moon. As you can imagine, the passing of Cash for me this last week has been emotional. I am at my very best when I compose with my emotions at my sleeve, and guess what, it is time to do the Eroica piece. And I believe I will be able to craft a very unique tribute in to the form of a Piano Trio. There is something that is very fitting in all of this though. Cash was one of the few country music and rockabilly musicians to appeal to all ages, all types of people all the way into the MTV generation which is something that is hard to fathom. That one person can move musical mountains with his charisma and his voice. He sung about the prisons, riding the trains, about killing, and living, about lost love, about the gospel, about the downtrodden and the Native American, and about being stoned. His musical sound was the thing that got everybody though. He developed along with his guitar player Luther Perkins, a new and vibrant way to bring the music out.I also knew Johnny and worked with him, visited him privately at his home. Johnny also appeared on my album called Heroes, where he brought back the great story of the Devil coming down to Georgia to challenge young Johnny for the golden fiddle. My job now is to bridge what I am feeling about my inspiration for Cash, and bring it in to the instruments that I love writing for.I might not have imagined that this Johnny Cash concept would have worked out of hand, if it hadn’t been for your musicianship, insight fullness and graceful approaches in to the details of musical concepts and style. If the piece is good, then I will have no doubt that you will bring it to the forefront so others can grasp the intentions of the work, and in addition for others to enjoy playing it after you have brought it all out in to the open, and gave it a life. Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.918243 Composed by Emily Nafius. 20th Century,Contemporary,Jazz,Pop,Standards. Score. 4 pages. Emily Nafius Music #5995145. Published by Emily Nafius Music (A0.918243). A modern, meditative original composition, suitable for students and advanced musicians alike.Composer’s Note:Nojoqui Falls (pronounced NAW-ho-wee) is a seasonal waterfall in Santa Barbara County, California, in the interior foothills of the Santa Ynez Mountains. It is the subject of stories from the Chumash, a Native American people who have lived along California’s central coast for thousands of years. When the area experiences extreme drought, sometimes the waterfall reduces to a trickle. But it is a beautiful, shady place with a magical quality, and the water always returns. For interested students or teachers, here are a few pedagogical notes:Pedal ad lib is appropriate for this piece. Unless a player has very large hands, the right hand will need to cover most of the top notes in the bass clef (the C ostinato). This can be a welcome challenge for students, as they will need to balance this with sustaining and shaping the top melody notes. Some of the middle C ostinato notes are indicated as optional, since they are already struck as melody notes during the same beat. (But they are still notated in case another instrument plays the melody.) It might feel awkward to strike some of the other C ostinato notes that are rhythmically nearby, but it can also be a good way to practice leaving that sustained melodic note ringing while striking the same note soon after with a much quieter dynamic, which requires both control and skilled use of the pedal.About the Composer:Emily Nafius is a pianist in Southern California with her musical roots in jazz. As a soloist or sideman, she has performed at numerous music venues around California in an eclectic mix of styles, and recorded with a variety of singer-songwriters and rock bands. Her work as an accompanist spans classical, jazz, and musical theatre, receiving praise for her theatre work as a pianist and ensemble leader. She has maintained a teaching studio for over fifteen years, instructing musicians of all ages.

SATB choir and Piano - Medium - Digital Download SKU: MQ.1.3610-E Composed by Kyle Pederson. African American Heritage. Instrument part. 22 pages. Galaxy Music Corporation - Digital #1.3610-E. Published by Galaxy Music Corporation - Digital (MQ.1.3610-E). English. From the arranger, Kyle Pederson To me, spirituals are the most powerful type of music. Spirituals were birthed and rooted in the experience of chattel slavery in the United States—and arose out of, as Arthur C. Jones asserts, “deeply meaningful, archetypically human experiences, relevant not only to the specific circumstances of slavery but also to women and men struggling with issues of justice, freedom, and spiritual wholeness in all times and places.†The original text of Soon Ah Will Be Done is as follows: Soon ah will be done with the troubles of the world (repeat) Goin’ home to live with God No more weeping and a-wailing (repeat) Goin’ home to live with God I want t’ meet my mother (repeat) Goin’ home to live with God I want t’ meet my Jesus (repeat) Goin’ home to live with God When I sang this spiritual growing up, I was struck by both the withering sorrow and expectant hope throughout. The melody and emotion has stuck with me since. When approaching my own arrangement, I hoped to honor the voice of the original writers and their experience of slavery, and I also sought to extend a voice to people today who are suffering from oppression and discrimination. I hoped an appropriate way to honor the experience of the original writers might be to invite the contemporary listener to envision and commit to a better, more just world today—a world of inclusion, radical kindness, compassion, love, and grace—a world where we have the courage to champion the inherent dignity and value of all people, a world where we will be done with all the ways we deny a person’s worth. A world where “heaven has come to earth.†In this arrangement, spoken word is incorporated throughout, intended to heighten the intensity of the performance, and meant to give a sense of immediacy to the challenge for the choir and audience to work together for justice, equity, and wholeness. Spoken word has often been used as the language of protest—and I include it intentionally as a way of giving voice to the choir members (and listener)—where all can stand in solidarity against oppression and injustice. If desired, choir members are encouraged to write their own spoken word text that speaks to issues of inequity and injustice in their own communities. I am writing this program note not long after George Floyd was killed in Minneapolis, MN, on May 25, 2020. As a Minneapolis area resident for the past 25 years, I want to take a more active role in working towards justice in my community. All proceeds received from the sale and performance of Soon We Will Be Done will be directed to ISAIAH—a multi-racial, state-wide, nonpartisan coalition of faith communities fighting for racial and economic justice in Minnesota. You can read more about the phenomenal work ISAIAH is doing at isaiahmn.org.
