Alla Siciliana, second movement of Amy Beach's Gaelic Symphony in E minor, is arranged as a dynamic showpiece for a brass choir of four trumpets in B-flat (alternate trumpet parts in C), five horns, three trombones, euphonium and tuba. Acclaimed pianist and child prodigy, Amy Beach (1867-1944) was one of America's first female composers to have her orchestral compositions published and performed by symphony orchestras in the United States and Europe. Published by Arkady Leytush (A0.1008418). This remarkably colorful part gives great pleasure with its liberation, colorfulness and originality of the Spanish and Cuban musical traditions. Written in three-part form, this music in particular is notable for its peculiar rhythms and metric comparisons. If in the 1st and last parts I use quite recognizable percussion instruments such as: Triangle, Snare Drum, Castanets, Cymbals, Gong, which indicates more Spanish traditions in classical music, then in the middle part it is mostly Cuban folk music, colored and emphasized by such percussion as: Claves, Cowbell, Bongo and Conga Drums. Undoubtedly, the percussion instruments in this part of my transcription are a very recognizable element, but not the only one that can be determined with careful listening.

Transcripción para piano solo por:JUAN CARLOS CORTÉS A.De la Guaracha San Lázaro compuesta e interpretada por Celina González Zamora (Nueva Luisa, Jovellanos, Matanzas 16 de marzo de 1928 - La Habana 4 de febrero de 2015) y Reutilio DomÃnguez Terrero (Guantánamo 1921 - 1971)Celina y Reutilio rompen con una vieja separación que existÃa entre la música guajira y la música afro, establecen una nueva fusión donde la métrica, o sea, la décima hispánica y el estilo del punto guajiro, se mantienen, pero la letra se refiere a temas del patrimonio cultural del continente negro. La acogida del público se debe no solo a lo novedoso de la tonada sino quizá a varias otras razones. El dúo combinaba la restallante voz de Celina, como se la ha llamado, con el sonido producido por Reutilio, que parecÃa provenir no de una sino de dos o más guitarras. Vale la pena ahondar un poco sobre esto último. En los tradicionales dúos y trÃos de punto cubano y son montuno generalmente se utilizaban dos guitarras, o una guitarra y otro instrumento de cuerdas. Un músico tocaba la llamada guitarra prima, o sea, los tonos agudos, como es el caso de Miguel Matamoros en su trÃo, mientras que un segundo guitarrista ‘bordoneaba’, es decir, marcaba los tonos bajos, como hacÃa Rafael Cueto con sus famosos ‘tumbaos’ en el TrÃo Matamoros. Written for Paul Wehage for the 1997 Donne in Musica Festival in Fiuggi, Italy, this work uses elements of Cuban folk music. Doris Magaly Ruiz Lastres was born in Santa Clara, Cuba, in 1941 . In 1981 she graduated with a degree in Composition from the Instituto Superior de Arte de La Habana, where she studied with Harold Gramatges, CÉsar PÉrez Sentenat, JosÉ ArdÉvol, FÉlix Guerrero, Alfredo Diez Nieto, Dolores Torres and Roberto Valera. Since then, she has worked as a Professor at the Instituto as well as at the Instituto Superior Pedagógico Enrique JosÉ Varona and the provincial school of music, Amadeo Roldán. She has been worked for many years as technical advisor of the subject Harmony in the Dirección Nacional de Enseñanza ArtÃstica, and technical advisor in the Centro para la Investigación y Desarrollo de la Música Cubana. Her curriculum is published in prestigious dictionaries such as The Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians and «Diccionario Iberoamericano de la Música». Several of her compositions are included as part of the curriculum of the leading music education institutions in Cuba, among them, the Conservatorio Amadeo Roldán, the Instituto Superior de Arte de La Habana, the Instituto Superior Pedagógico Enrique JosÉ Varona and Conservatorio Alejandro Garcia Caturla. Her compositions have been performed at many festivals such as the International Musical Festival, Festival de La Habana, Festival Boleros de Oro, International Festival of Contemporary Music, the International Festival Donne in Musica in Fiuggi, Italy and the Festival Sounds of Americas, New York, United States. She has received the First Award in the music contests Concurso La Edad de Oro, Concurso de la Dirección Nacional de Enseñanza ArtÃstica, Concurso Amadeo Roldán and the Concurso de la Unión Nacional de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba. She has also been awarded several medals and honours, among them The Medalla por la Educación Cubana, Medalla al MÉrito Pedagógico, Medalla JosÉ Tey, Distinción Especial of the Cuban Ministry of Education, and the Premio Anual de Composición of the Unión Nacional de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba for lifetime achievement.
