This sheet music is notated for 13-note (one octave, C to C chromatic scale) instruments with Handbells on one staff and Boomwhackers® on a second staff creating an instrumental ensemble (requires one set of each instrument). Handbells play the melody while the Boomwhackers® keep a steady beat with three-note chords. Included in this set of scores is a combined score with both instrument parts on a grand staff plus a separate score for each instrument. A note and chord chart is also provided to aid in the learning and teaching of this song. Lyrics are provided as well for sing along enjoyment.  This set of scores uses black and white noteheads and is best suited for musicians already familiar with reading standard music notation. For beginning musicians, this same set of scores is available (sold separately) with color coded noteheads.Though this sheet music is notated for Handbells and Boomwhackers®, this song is playable by any 13-note, C to C chromatic scale (one octave) instrument such as a xylophone or glockenspiel. Only filled noteheads (quarter and eighth notes) are used so the notes are easier to see (this does not indicate the bells need to be silenced immediately before the next beat). Also, only quarter and eighth rests are used to help visualize the number of beats per measure. The number of ringers and whackers needed will vary depending on the skill level of the participants. For more advanced players, each person could be assigned two or three notes. For beginners, it is best to assign one or two notes to each person. These simplified chords follow the beat (4/4 time: count 1, 2, 3, 4 in each measure) making it easy to accompany yourself or someone else singing the melody. Alternately, this score can be used in conjunction with the Melody Score to form a duet by providing the accompaniment while someone else plays the melody. Chords Score #2 is identical to Chords Score #1 except this score uses Rhythm #5 instead of Rhythm #1. Note and Chord ChartThis chart consists of two separate staff rows. The first staff shows the notes used for the melody. The second staff shows the notes in each chord used in this song. Any combination of the notes within a given chord can be played using one of the rhythm patterns. The chord names are shown above the staff. Latin • German.On letting go(Concerning the selection of the texts) In the selection of the texts, I have allowed myself to be motivated and inspired by the concept of “letting goâ€. This appears to me to be one of the essential aspects of dying, but also of life itself. We humans cling far too strongly to successful achievements, whether they have to do with material or ideal values, or relationships of all kinds. We cannot and do not want to let go, almost as if our life depended on it. As we will have to practise the art of letting go at the latest during our hour of death, perhaps we could already make a start on this while we are still alive. Tagore describes this farewell with very simple but strikingly vivid imagery: “I will return the key of my doorâ€. I have set this text for tenor solo. Here I imagine, and have correspondingly noted in a certain passage of the score, that the protagonist finds himself as though “in an ocean†of voices in which he is however not drowning, but immersing himself in complete relaxation. The phenomenon of letting go is described even more simply and tersely in Psalm 90, verse 12: “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdomâ€. This cannot be expressed more plainly.I have begun the requiem with a solo boy’s voice singing the beginning of this psalm on a single note, the note A. This in effect says it all. The work comes full circle at the culmination with a repeat of the psalm which subsequently leads into a resplendent “lux aeternaâ€. The intermediate texts of the Requiem which highlight the phenomenon of letting go in the widest spectrum of colours originate on the one hand from the Latin liturgy of the Messa da Requiem (In Paradisum, Libera me, Requiem aeternam, Mors stupebit) and on the other hand from poems by Joseph von Eichendorff, Hermann Hesse, Rabindranath Tagore and Rainer Maria Rilke.All texts have a distinctive positive element in common and view death as being an organic process within the great system of the universe, for example when Hermann Hesse writes: “Entreiß dich, Seele, nun der Zeit, entreiß dich deinen Sorgen und mache dich zum Flug bereit in den ersehnten Morgen†[“Tear yourself way , o soul, from time, tear yourself away from your sorrows and prepare yourself to fly away into the long-awaited morningâ€] and later: “Und die Seele unbewacht will in freien Flügen schweben, um im Zauberkreis der Nacht tief und tausendfach zu leben†[“And the unfettered soul strives to soar in free flight to live in the magic sphere of the night, deep and thousandfoldâ€]. Or Joseph von Eichendorff whose text evokes a distant song in his lines: “Und meine Seele spannte weit ihre Flügel aus. Flog durch die stillen Lande, als flöge sie nach Haus†[“And my soul spread its wings wide. Flew through the still country as if homeward bound.â€]Here a strong romantically tinged occidental resonance can be detected which is however also accompanied by a universal spirit going far beyond all cultures and religions. In the beginning was the sound Long before any sort of word or meaningful phrase was uttered by vocal chords, sounds, vibrations and tones already existed. This brings us back to the music. Both during my years of study and at subsequent periods, I had been an active participant in the world of contemporary music, both as percussionist and also as conductor and composer. My early scores had a somewhat adventurous appearance, filled with an abundance of small black dots: no rhythm could be too complicated, no register too extreme and no harmony too dissonant. I devoted myself intensely to the handling of different parameters which in serial music coexist in total equality: I also studied aleatory principles and so-called minimal music.I subsequently emigrated and took up residence in Spain from where I embarked on numerous travels over the years to India, Africa and South America. I spent repeated periods during this time as a resident in non-European countries. This meant that the currents of contemporary music swept past me vaguely and at a great distance. What I instead absorbed during this period were other completely new cultures in which I attempted to immerse myself as intensively as possible.I learned foreign languages and came into contact with musicians of all classes and styles who had a different cultural heritage than my own: I was intoxicated with the diversity of artistic potential.Nevertheless, the further I distanced myself from my own Western musical heritage, the more this returned insistently in my consciousness.The scene can be imagined of sitting somewhere in the middle of the Brazilian jungle surrounded by the wailing of Indians and out of the blue being provided with the opportunity to hear Beethoven’s late string quartets: this can be a heart-wrenching experience, akin to an identity crisis. This type of experience can also be described as cathartic. Whatever the circumstances, my “renewed†occupation with the “old†country would not permit me to return to the point at which I as an audacious young student had maltreated the musical parameters of so-called contemporary music. A completely different approach would be necessary: an extremely careful approach, inching my way gradually back into the Western world: an approach which would welcome tradition back into the fold, attempt to unfurl the petals and gently infuse this tradition with a breath of contemporary life.Although I am aware that I will not unleash a revolution or scandal with this approach, I am nevertheless confident as, with the musical vocabulary of this Requiem, I am travelling in an orbit in which no ballast or complex structures will be transported or intimated: on the contrary, I have attempted to form the message of the texts in music with the naivety of a “homecomerâ€. I have to believe that she wrote this poem around 1948 because of how it is worded. I of course knew the source of inspiration for this poem when I reread it not long ago—something I had not done since the 1990s—but its having been inspired by Hatikvah was really driven home to me by a Facebook comment. That comment inspired me to compose a piece in which the opening and closing sections are based on the opening melody of Hatikvah, but in which the middle section is newly composed. “Israel was not created in order to disappear - Israel will endure and flourish. The violinist, conductor and composer Béla Kéler, by his birth name Albert Paul von Kéler, was born at 13th of February 1820 in the house No. 41 at town hall square of the city of Bartfeld (today´s Slovakian name: Bardejov). After his studies of music in LevoÄa, Debrecen and PreÅ¡ov, he obtained the position of first violinist at the „Theater an der Wien in Vienna. The same time he studied harmony, counterpoint and started to compose. Since 1854 he received the position as conductor of the orchestra of Johann Sommer in Berlin, he already used the name Béla Kéler. Later he became leader of the military band under count Mazzuchelli. The last twenty years of his life he spent as leader of the spa-orchestra in Wiesbaden and was devoted on composing. He performed in all European cultural centres, as London, Manchester, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Paris, Munich, Dresden, Leipzig etc. Still he often and gladly returned to his home city Bartfeld. Kéler has written 27 big waltzes, 27 marches, 20 csárdás, 18 polkas, 15 songs, 13 galops, 12 overtures, a ballet and several „musical paintings, such as the idyllic Carpathians, his first important composition which praises the Slovakian nature. The most frequently played theme of Kéler´s work are the 32 bars from his csárdás Memory of Bartfeld, op. 31, which were used by Johannes Brahms for his Hungarian dance No. 5 in the original notation of the author. Kéler´s music, in the time of its creation, could hold his own with the Vienna masters Joseph Lanner and „king of waltzes Johann Strauss jun. Already in his lifetime his 138 compositions were edited in 12 European countries. His manuscripts now belong in parts to the collection of the Å ariÅ¡ museum at Bardejov. The violinist, conductor and composer Béla Kéler, by his birth name Albert Paul von Kéler, was born at 13th of February 1820 in the house No. 41 at town hall square of the city of Bartfeld (today´s Slovakian name: Bardejov). After his studies of music in LevoÄa, Debrecen and PreÅ¡ov, he obtained the position of first violinist at the „Theater an der Wien in Vienna. The same time he studied harmony, counterpoint and started to compose. Since 1854 he received the position as conductor of the orchestra of Johann Sommer in Berlin, he already used the name Béla Kéler. Later he became leader of the military band under count Mazzuchelli. The last twenty years of his life he spent as leader of the spa-orchestra in Wiesbaden and was devoted on composing. He performed in all European cultural centres, as London, Manchester, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Paris, Munich, Dresden, Leipzig etc. Still he often and gladly returned to his home city Bartfeld. Kéler has written 27 big waltzes, 27 marches, 20 csárdás, 18 polkas, 15 songs, 13 galops, 12 overtures, a ballet and several „musical paintings, such as the idyllic Carpathians, his first important composition which praises the Slovakian nature. The most frequently played theme of Kéler´s work are the 32 bars from his csárdás Memory of Bartfeld, op. 31, which were used by Johannes Brahms for his Hungarian dance No. 5 in the original notation of the author. Kéler´s music, in the time of its creation, could hold his own with the Vienna masters Joseph Lanner and „king of waltzes Johann Strauss jun. Already in his lifetime his 138 compositions were edited in 12 European countries. His manuscripts now belong in parts to the collection of the Å ariÅ¡ museum at Bardejov. This sheet music is notated for 13-note (one octave, C to C chromatic scale) instruments with Handbells on one staff and Boomwhackers® on a second staff creating an instrumental ensemble (requires one set of each instrument).This arrangement includes two levels. One set is EASY with the Handbells playing only the melody notes and the Boomwhackers® keeping a steady rhythm using only quarter notes. The second set is ADVANCED with the Handbells playing melody and harmony notes while the Boomwhackers® play a slightly more complex rhythm. For each level, there is a combined score with both instrument parts on a grand staff plus a separate score for each instrument. Two copies of each score are provided. The scores are identical except one uses color coded noteheads and the other uses black and white noteheads. The score with colored noteheads corresponds to the Boomwhackers® color scheme. If you have a set of bells or tubes with a different color scheme, Chroma-Notes Stick Ons can be purchased and applied so the instruments match the Boomwhackers® color scheme. Using color coded notes helps beginning musicians learn to read standard sheet music notation. The score with black and white notes will print clearer if you do not have access to a color printer or have a group of players already familiar with reading music notation.Only filled noteheads (quarter and eighth notes) are used so the notes are full color and easier to distinguish (this does not indicate the bells need to be silenced immediately before the next beat). Also, only quarter rests are used to help visualize the number of beats per measure.
