Trumpet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.978843 By Keith Terrett. By Anon. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Baroque,Classical,Instructional,Traditional,Wedding. 6 pages. Keith Terrett #584509. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.978843). A Fanfare for three Bb Trumpets & Timpani. This was arranged from an old melody of unknown origin, for Eb Cavalry Trumpets and Kettledrums of the Queen’s Royal Irish Hussars Band, a former Northern Irish Regiment within the British Army; whose Colonel in Chief was HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. Winston Churchill was a young officer in the regiment, before the amalgamation of the 4th & 8th Hussars, to form the ’Queen’s Royal Irish Hussars’’. All cavalry regiments of the line, have a team of Cavalry Trumpets, who under the ’Trumpet Major’, play at 11am each day outside regimental headquarters, for the Regiment. Traditionally the fanfare ’stables’ would be played first; followed by another fanfare of the ’’Trumpet Major’s’’ choice. In cavalry regiments there is often a drum horse, on which the two timpani are positioned and played. An example would be the Queen’s Own Hussars, who for many years had a fine old drum horse, trained not to panic when the kettledrums were being played fortissimo! During the day, one trumpeter is on duty, and plays various trumpet calls throughout the day to signal important happenings in the regiment’s daily schedule of events. For example, Reveille is at 0630, Mess call at 0700, Mess call 1230, Guard mount 1800, Officers dress for dinner 2000, finishing with last post at 2200! There are also trumpet calls for fire, war and mucking out the horses! One morning when I was on trumpet duty in Germany at the tender age of 18, I woke up late, and just managed to play the ’’Reveille’’ trumpet call out of my bedroom window, in an effort not to be ’charged’ for missing a call! The equivalent in the Infantry would be the bugle, which is also used as a method of signaling to the regiment. This fanfare works well for three Bb trumpets and timpani. Eb cavalry trumpets are often written in the key of C, and harmonically there is no third on chord V due to the harmonics of the instrument, and the fact that they have no valves; giving a bare sounding chord. The trills in the first part are lip trills, on Bb trumpet, simply play a lip trill using the valves 1 & 3. The most famous Eb cavalry trumpeters in the British Army, are undoubtedly the trumpeters of the household cavalry, who perform in spectacular golden uniforms, complete with riding hats, at the state opening of parliament. Don’t forget Eb cavalry trumpeters are musicians from the band,(they could be clarinettists),assigned to trumpet for two to three years, not so good for your embouchure!! So when you hear a mis-pitched note in future, you know that the trumpeter could be a bassoonist, doing his or her very best.

Alto saxophone and piano - easy to intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q7324 From Pictures at an Exhibition. Composed by Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky. Arranged by Heinz Both. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Schott Music - Digital #Q7324. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q7324). With his piano cycle Pictures at an Exhibition from 1874, Mussorgsky created a classic example of programme music. Based on the paintings of his deceased friend Viktor Hartmann, he also composed the lyrical serenade 'Il vecchio castello' (The Old Castle), among others. Hartmann's picture shows a medieval Italian castle with a singing troubadour who accompanies himself on the lute. In Maurice Ravel's subsequent famous orchestral version, the beautiful, melancholy melody was played by the alto saxophone. Accompaniment, prelude and interludes are reminiscent of playing a medieval hurdy-gurdy with its pervading drone bass. Therein lies the continuity of the piece, thereabove lies the quiet romance with its melancholy character – the unrequited love of the troubadour. This separate edition now gives all saxophonists the opportunity to play the piece with piano accompaniment.

Op. 15 No. 7 Träumerei * Daydreaming * мечтательноÑÑ‚ÑŒ * αφηÏημάδα * snÄ›nà Duration ca. 2:38 An unexpected and welcome recital encore. Träumerei is the seventh and most renowned movement of Robert Schumann's Kinderszenen, Op. 15 (Scenes from Childhood), which was composed in 1838. It is a solo piano piece and is a perfect example of a lyrical composition, combining tenderness and tremendous emotion. The title Träumerei means Dreaming, it was written as a tribute to Schumann's four-year-old daughter, Marie. The piece was published as part of Kinderszenen on December 27, 1838, with the title given by the composer himself, reflecting his longing for his childhood and the innocence of his children. The composition evokes a mood of aching melancholy, loss, and nostalgia, which has contributed to its universal popularity. It has been embraced for its sweetness and longing, and it communicates the idea of dreaming and nostalgia, appealing to both adults and children.Träumerei gained significant recognition in the Soviet Union, where it was selected to be played in the background during a moment of silence in memory of the victims of the Soviet Union's war against Nazi Germany. The piece's universal emotional appeal has made it a beloved and widely recognized masterpiece. The composition has been featured in various films and arranged for different instruments, contributing to its enduring popularity and cultural significance.

Four Melodies by Clara Schumann

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Digital Download SKU: A0.1511369 Composed by Clara Wieck-Schumann. Arranged by Stephen Levintow. 19th Century,Romantic Period. 32 pages. Cypress Publishing #1086543. Published by Cypress Publishing (A0.1511369). Appreciation for the quality and charm of Clara Schumann’s music has increased in recent years as it has become better known. She was the daughter and prize pupil of the celebrated piano teacher Friedrich Wieck, and she toured internationally by her early teens. Wieck also taught Robert Schumann, but bitterly opposed the liaison of Robert and Clara, aware that it would cause him to lose control of her career and the income it generated. The two were able to marry only after a long court battle with Wieck. In the 40 years that Clara survived Robert, she composed very little, devoting her energy to performance, and to securing Robert’s musical legacy. Nobody can blame her for this, especially as performing was a far more secure way to support her large family. But we can still regret that she did not compose more, given the excellence of the small body of work we have. This set includes arrangements of two piano pieces from her Opus 15, Vier flüchtige Stücke (Four Fleeting Pieces), and two Lieder for voice and piano from her Opus 13, Der Mond kommt still gegangen (The Moon Comes Quietly) and Liebeszauber (Love’s Spell). Clara’s musical forms are generally more conventional than Robert’s, but she is capable of bold harmonies and modulations, often in the middle sections of her piano pieces. Opus 15, No. 3, the third of this set, is an example, with some rhythmic challenges to the quartet. Cypress Publishing offers other works by Clara Schumann arranged for string quartet under “Two Pieces by Clara Schumann” (from Op. 15 and Op. 21), and her wonderful song Liebst du um Schönheit (If You Love for Beauty), paired with Robert’s great Mondnacht (Moonlit Night) as “Two Songs by the Schumanns”.CYPRESS PUBLISHING is pleased to be the imprint for arrangements for string ensemble by Stephen Levintow. He is a free lance professional violist and violinist specializing in chamber music, who began making string quartet and trio arrangements for wedding, party and corporate events, to expand the repertory or to improve on existing versions. Selections include unusual pieces by both familiar and lesser-known composers, plus standard classical and popular favorites. The goal is to produce high-quality, musically satisfying arrangements faithful to the composer’s original material, yet sight-readable in most cases by working professionals or intermediate to advanced students. The full range of normal string technique is employed, while avoiding unnecessary technical complexity. Melodic material is distributed throughout the four voices where appropriate, to maintain listener and performer interest. All parts and scores are set in Sibelius© software format, with careful attention to legibility and page turns.

German. An important addition to the newly produced orchestral materials by Schott Music is the fi rst publication of vocal scores of Richard Wagner’s ten great operas in every important version. For the first time, we are able to offer theatres and interested opera-lovers vocal scores as urtext editions conceived following uniform editorial criteria: * The score corresponds to the performance materials from the Complete Edition. * For practical use in rehearsal and study, every vocal score includes rehearsal cues and bar numbers throughout. * The publisher has secured the services of renowned musicologists associated with the Richard Wagner Complete Edition who convey detailed information in critical forewords. * The forewords are given in three languages (German, English, French). * Uniform and attractive front cover designs with reproductions of paintings from the Wagner era underline the series design of the edition. TRISTAN UND ISOLDE Performance directions by the singer Ludwig Schnorr von Carolsfeld are incorporated in the vocal score from the Complete Edition’s Tristan und Isolde volume. He entered these directions into his own copy of the Tristan part which he used at the 1865 Munich premiere. Richard Wagner was deeply impressed by his interpretation of the title role. For the first time in a vocal score of Tristan und Isolde all cuts are incorporated—with the corresponding transitional bars—which Wagner himself made, and approved, in two cases, were actually declared by him to be final. These cuts strikingly document Wagner’s struggle with the final form of the work. For the first time in a single edition all of Wagner’s own suggestions for ossias are found; ossias which evolved from performances under his own direction. Egon Voss writes about this in his foreword to the vocal score: “Such ‘pointers’, as you might say, were current practice in the 19th century which Wagner, as the example shows, did not evade. He was enough of a practical man of the theatre to know that a badly sung top note is worse than doing without it. Wagner even tolerated the transposition of lengthier passages because he was less concerned with the letter of the score than with theatrical effectiveness. [...] The present vocal score goes beyond the Complete Edition [...] in that the ossias mentioned above are indicated in the vocal part itself, in small notes. They concern principally the role of Tristan, but also those of Isolde, Brangäne and Kurwenal. They rest in part on the Tristan edition within the Complete Edition but for the greater part go back to a source which could not be consulted for the Complete Edition because it was not yet accessible. This relates to a vocal score from the estate of the composer Peter Cornelius who was engaged by Wagner as repetiteur at the Vienna rehearsals in 1861-63. That the ossia bars go back to Wagner can be taken as certain, since in some places they are notated in his own hand.†(Egon Voss, quoted from the foreword to the vocal score) The transpositions mentioned by Egon Voss—two by Hans von Bülow for the revival of the work which he conducted in Munich in 1869 and the third suggested by Wagner himself in 1861—are printed in the appendix to the vocal score. The ossias, transpositions, and cuts are available for practical use in the theatre and in rehearsal. The cuts are also incorporated into the orchestral materials for Tristan und Isolde. This is also the case with ossias which affect the orchestral parts.2013 marks Wagner’s bicentenary, making the year largely focused on his music, particularly the dramatic works. An important addition to the newly produced orchestral materials by Schott Music. The score corresponds to the performance materials from the Complete Edition. Schott Music have secured the services of renowned musicologists associated with the Richard Wagner Complete Edition who convey detailed information in critical forewords. (There's No Place Like) Home for the Holidays is a 1954 song commonly associated with the Christmas and holiday season. The lyrics detail the joys of being in your home community during the holidays and give examples of how some people will travel long distances to be with their loved ones. The music was composed by Robert Allen, with the lyrics written by Al Stillman. The best-known recordings of Home for the Holidays were made by Perry Como, who recorded the song twice, both times accompanied by Mitchell Ayres' Orchestra and the Ray Charles Singers. Perhaps the most iconic version of the song, other than the original Perry Como version, is the Carpenters’ recording on their 1984 LP release, An Old Fashioned Christmas.

Traditional sailor's song arranged for German Band with two clarinets, trumpet, trombone, tuba, and optional drums. Includes a full score and all parts. Includes optional lyrics that let you sing a verse! Key of F. 81 measures, 20pages.Barnacle Bill the Sailor is an American drinking song adapted from Bollocky Bill the Sailor, a traditional folk song originally titled Abraham Brown. The first printed version of the song is in the public domain book Immortalia (1927). Later versions feature the eponymous Barnacle Bill, a fictional character loosely based on a 19th-century San Francisco sailor and Gold Rush miner named William Bernard. Versions are also known in England and Scotland from the early twentieth century. One version of Barnacle Bill refers to an exchange between Bill and a fair young maiden. The first printed version of the song is in the public domain book Immortalia (1927). Later versions feature the eponymous Barnacle Bill, a fictional character loosely based on a 19th-century San Francisco sailor and Gold Rush miner named William Bernard.[2] Versions are also known in England and Scotland from the early twentieth century. The earliest known recording is an expurgated adaptation by Carson Robison and Frank Luther in 1928. This version was also recorded on May 21, 1930 by Bix Beiderbecke and Hoagy Carmichael with Carson Robison on vocals and released as a Victor 78, V-38139-A and 25371. In 1996 it was released on CD on the album Bix Beiderbecke 1927–1930.[3] According to Philip R. Evans, Bix Beiderbecke's biographer, in the second chorus of this recording, violinist Joe Venuti can be heard singing Barnacle Bill the Shit-head, either to express his attitude toward the record producer, or typical of his wacky sense of humor. Esten Spurrier, a friend of Beiderbecke's, is quoted by Evans as saying that Beiderbecke told him he could not believe the record would be pressed and had felt that it had been done just for laughs. Beiderbecke cut loose on the tune with what is believed to be one of his finest cornet solos. John Valby (aka Dr. Dirty) also recorded the song. The tune has inspired a Fleischer Studios Betty Boop cartoon and two films, as well as the name of a rock on Mars. Louis Jordan and the Tympany Five (then known as The Elks Rendezvous Band) recorded a clean version in 1938.[4] In the first Fleischer Popeye cartoon, Popeye the Sailor (1933), Barnacle Bill was used as the recurring theme for the Bluto character. A later Fleischer Popeye cartoon, Beware of Barnacle Bill (1935), is a mock operetta based around a toned-down version of the song.Example of lyrics[edit]One version of Barnacle Bill refers to an exchange between Bill and a fair young maiden. Each verse opens with inquiries by the maiden, sung by women, or by men in falsetto, and continues with Bill's profane responses sung by men.

Small Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.956662 Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn. Arranged by Catriona Melville-Mason. Romantic Period. Score and parts. 127 pages. C Melville-Mason #6735335. Published by C Melville-Mason (A0.956662). This is an arrangement of Mendelssohn’s overture The Hebrides (Fingal’s Cave), intended for a medium-sized woodwind group of perhaps 20 – 30 players. It has been categorised as ‘advanced’, as the length and tempo of the work make it quite challenging. However, provided the main parts are covered by competent players, those with less experience can either double, judiciously omitting any problem sections, or opt for the appropriate ‘easier’ add-on part. This is great fun to attempt, even if your ensemble may not manage it up to performance standard! The piece is scored for the following instrumentation: Essential Parts: Part 1: Flute Part 2: Flute Part 3: Oboe Part 4: Clarinet in B-flat Part 5: Clarinet in B-flat (contains essential divisi, so minimum of 2 players essential) Part 6: Clarinet in B-flat Part 7: Clarinet in B-flat OR Part 7: Alto Saxophone Part 8: Alto Saxophone Part 9: Alto Saxophone Part 10: Bassoon OR Part 10: Bass Clarinet in B-flat (low C instrument essential) Optional add-ons: Easier Flute/Oboe Low Clarinet in B-flat Easier Alto Saxophone Easier Tenor Saxophone Mini-Bassoon in F (an extra, NOT an easy, part) Easier Bassoon Mendelssohn visited Scotland in 1829 and, after a tour of the Highlands, travelled by steamer from Fort William to Oban and thence to the Hebridean island of Mull. From there, he made the short boat trip to the small island of Staffa, to visit Fingal’s Cave – a sea cave formed of hexagonal basalt columns, with a highly intriguing natural acoustic. The Hebrides overture was inspired by this segment of Mendelssohn’s Scottish travels. The work is an early example of a tone poem: a musical representation of the scenery, wind and weather of the Scottish Hebridean islands, reflecting their sudden and infinite changeability. After some revisions, the overture received its first performance in May 1832 and remains a favourite with audiences to this day. It has been central in establishing – and sustaining – the popularity of Fingal’s Cave as a tourist destination. This arrangement was originally created for a woodwind course held on another Scottish island – Skye, which is the largest and most northerly of the Inner Hebrides.

James Siddons Music and Writings #6593557. Published by James Siddons Music and Writings (A0.972670). This score is for two Readers, handbells (3 octaves) and organ.A medieval folk belief of old Europe was that of all the animals miraculously starting to speak at the birth of the Christ Child. In about 1630, William Austin, a poet and lawyer in London, drew on this traditional belief to write one of his Carrols, for Christmas-day, in which he imagined what the most Stentorian animal of all, the rooster, might say about the new-born Holy Infant in Bethlehem. In setting William Austin’s carrol to music, James Siddons has given the organ the role of creating a soundscape to underpin the drama of Chanticleer’s proclamation. Following each of Austin’s three stanzas (in dramatic recitation by the Readers), an adaptation of the old French tune O Come, Emmanuel is played by handbells in a harmonic style that recalls the pealing of church bells on Christmas morning. This work is appropriate for the beginning of Advent and Christmas day worship, and in a service or program of Christmas music; for example, a service of lessons and carols. The purchase price includes permission to make 14 copies of the score (2 Readers, 8-10 handbell players, organist, and conductor) and permission to video-record a performance for posting on school or church websites and in streaming broadcast.

The Arban Manual is a complete course that takes you through the Arban Method in 69 well organized lessons. You will need The Arban Method to use this course. Each lesson is a balanced day of practice. This version is for the older Carl Fischer Arban Method.<br> <br> Description<br> The Arban Manual is a complete course that takes you through the Arban Method in 69 well organized lessons. You will need The Arban Method to use this course. Each lesson is a balanced day of practice.<br> Why<br> Arban’s Complete Conservatory Method for Trumpet andArban’s Famous Method for Trombone have been two of the most widely used brass books for over 100 years. The Arban Manual is simply a guide in how to practice Arban. The Arban Manual will take you step by step through the entire Arban method. The Arban Manual is not a technique book and the practice advice should work well with most brass methodology.<br> <br> How<br> A minimum of one week should be spent on each lesson, although many choose to spend longer. If you are having trouble with one part of a lesson, you may wish to spend more time on that part. Most lessons are divided into six parts that should be practiced in the prescribed order. It is recommended that you rest between each part and try to spread your practicing throughout the day as best you can.<br> <br> Range Considerations<br> Students who are ready to play from Arban should have a “usable range” up to A (concert G). Many of the easy studies do go this high. Although there are not many really high notes in Arbanby today’s standards, some of the studies can be quite taxing. An example of this is the interval studies on p. 126-129.<br> If you are not able to reach the highest keys at first, go as far you can comfortably, be sure to rest properly, and try to go further the next day. Remember, you will likely play from Arban in one way or another for most of your life, so don’t rush your progress.<br> <br> Warming Up<br> One of the shortcomings of Arban is the lack of solid warm up material. Part I of each lesson is designed to be a warm up. Some teachers and students may find this inadequate for a warm up. Therefore, feel free to supplement the lesson plan with a warm up of your choosing. After your warm up, continue with Part I of the lesson.<br> <br> Performance Etudes<br> I’ve designated some of the more melodic and well balanced etudes as “performance etudes”. These can be used for auditions or recitals and should be prepared for that purpose. Some teachers or students may have other favorite etudes that they may choose to use for the purpose of performance.<br> <br> All of the characteristic studies and celebrated fantaisies are considered performance pieces.<br> <br> Models<br> Models are different ways of playing an exercise. Many modelsinvolve using different articulations on a given exercise. Arban’suse of models is not extensive so I have chosen to expand on it, giving the student even more practice material. All models must be practiced thoroughly as prescribed in the lessons.<br> <br> The Hard Stuff<br> At some point in your study of Arban you may come across something that you just can’t play, or play at tempo. This often involves triple or double tonguing. Don’t let this discourage you. Practice it diligently and slowly. You may want to stay with it for more than one lesson. After practicing the difficult etude for at least a month, make a note of it and return to it later. Brass playing is a lifetime commitment and you should continue to grow throughout your playing career. Many of the world’s top players can’t play everything in the Arban book.<br> <br> Multiple Tonguing<br> Selecting the best syllables for multiple tonguing is often a problem for brass players and teachers. Although Arbanrecommends “tu ku”, many have had success using “tuh kuh”, “duh guh”, “tee kee” and many others. Finding your best syllables may take some experimentation.<br> <br> Extending Exercises<br> Beginning with Lesson 44, some of the exercises are reviewed and extended. This is to provide more upper range work, more key work and different models.<br> <br> Transposition<br> Beginning with Lesson 47, exercises are suggested to be transposed for trumpets in different keys. These are the most common transpositions and are only to provide the trumpet player with some basic transposition skills. Bass clef instruments need to substitute other material here such as clef practice.<br> The first transposition is for C trumpet which is useful for reading music in concert pitch. The second transposition is for Ab trumpet which is useful if you play a C trumpet and want to read a Bb part.<br> <br> Songs and duets<br> Some teachers love these and others don’t. I suggest you try them and if you’d like to supplement other pieces that you need to work on, please feel free to do so.<br> <br> For bass clef instruments<br> Although the page numbering is different, the exercises in the bass clef edition are numbered the same as the trumpet edition, therefore making The Arban Manual viable for bass clef instruments.<br> <br> The songs and duets have been left out of the early bass clef version of Arban, although there is now a new version that does include them. Feel free to supplement music of your choice. Some of the articulations and models may not be practical for slide trombone.

Trumpet, Horn, Strings, Percussion and Bass/guitar About the Musical A great story about one of the 20th century’s greatest storytellers. Carefully researched, yet full of fun, this entertaining musical tells the story of the early part of CS Lewis' life from the time of his mother's death in 1908 until his arrival as a student at Oxford in 1916. (Throughout his life CS Lewis was always known as Jack) This new work was premiered at the end of 2019 at the annual CS Lewis Festival held in Ireland. (CS Lewis’ birthplace) It proved to be a great success and was very enthusiastically received. Synopsis Jack’s Journey is a whimsical re-imagining of the childhood journeys of CS Lewis - each of the seven songs representing a stop along the way to his eventual career as the writer of the Narnia Chronicles. The story is told through music relating his memories and significant episodes from his schooldays up to his entry into Oxford. Living almost entirely in his imagination as a small boy, the seeds of the world of Narnia are already beginning to grow in his writing and drawings. Little Lea, his childhood home, provides the setting for the early scenes. Following the death of his mother the young Jack has his first experience of school and England. He endures with fortitude the harsh regime of boarding school and begins to recognise the value of friendship, mutual support and the courage that children can show in adversity. He returns to Ireland and to Campbell College – a much more positive experience. Illness brings his attendance at Campbell to an end. Returning to Little Lea, Jack imagines the world of fairies and dwarves, a world beyond our own. He returns to school in England and comes under the influence of a variety of teachers. Expelled from Malvern, Jack next falls under the influence of his great mentor, Professor Kirkpatrick – the model for the Professor of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Jack’s Journey concludes with the anticipated arrival of a great hero, the hero of the first of the Narnian Chronicles, Aslan, the lion. ‘Jack’s Journey’ gives opportunity for young actors, (supported if desired by adults, taking the parts of the grown-ups.) There are short dramatic scenes, plenty of chorus work, opportunity for choreography and many solo spots for vocalists in the songs which are milestones in the story. List of Songs (the sample pages and mp3 file gives a chance to see and hear the first page of most of the songs) 1 Soft through the window 2 Kingdom of Mourne 3 Little Lea 4 Campbell Days - Boy to the left, Boy to the right 5 The Dandy's song 6 The Scholar's song 7 Strength and honour As will be evident from the above, there is plenty of flexibility regarding the scale of the performance. ‘Jack’s Journey’ may be staged using relatively modest outlay – for example, the premiere did not have a set because the venue for the performance was an actual railway station! The piece certainly allows for imaginative approaches to design and staging. In terms of the additional challenges presented by 2020 the length of the musical at 40 minutes helps in delivering a shorter theatrical experience. Also, the fully digital download of all performing materials allows for distribution via email Indeed the whole show could be effectively recorded and presented online as well as in person.

Woodwind Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.956663 Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn. Arranged by Catriona Melville-Mason. Romantic Period. 91 pages. C Melville-Mason #6735339. Published by C Melville-Mason (A0.956663). This is an arrangement of Mendelssohn’s overture The Hebrides (Fingal’s Cave), intended for a medium-sized saxophone orchestra. It has been categorised as ‘advanced’, as the length and tempo of the work make it quite challenging. However, provided the main parts are covered by competent players, those with less experience can either double, judiciously omitting any problem sections, or in some cases opt for the appropriate ‘easier’ add-on part. Essential Parts: Part 1: Sopranino Saxophone Part 2: Soprano Saxophone Part 3: Alto Saxophone Part 4: Alto Saxophone Part 5: Alto Saxophone Part 6: Tenor Saxophone Part 7: Tenor Saxophone Part 8: Baritone Saxophone Part 9: Bass Saxophone Optional Parts: Easier Alto Saxophone Easier Tenor Saxophone Contrabass Saxophone Mendelssohn visited Scotland in 1829 and, after a tour of the Highlands, travelled by steamer from Fort William to Oban and thence to the Hebridean island of Mull. This is an adaptation of an arrangement that was originally created for a woodwind course held on another Scottish island – Skye, which is the largest and most northerly of the Inner Hebrides.

Composed by Aaron Weinstein. Jazz, Improvising. Ebook. 53 pages. Published by Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music (M0.30502EB). - Ebook - Jazz, Improvising - Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music
ISBN 9781619115453. 8.75 x 11.75 inches. If you've heard jazz guitarists like Joe Pass play chord melody, you may think that the style requires an encyclopedic knowledge of music theory, musical super-powers, or making a deal with the devil. But fear not! This book will show you how to create your own satisfying chord melody arrangements on the mandolin...and will do so in a practical, applicable, non stroke-inducing way. "Aaron Weinstein has many musical accomplishments. I am very proud to have played a small part with some of them. When he was only 12 he made his first recordings and asked me to play mandolin on them. I was knocked out to encounter someone that young that was conversant in both old-time or contest fiddling and Joe Venuti style jazz. Not long after that Aaron became interested in the mandolin and chords and he came by every so often to play and discuss voicings, improvisation and the like. I showed him some of the Jethro Burns chord melody arrangements that Jethro showed me. I've been teaching those for decades in hopes of one day playing them smoothly myself! Fast forward a few more years and Aaron has a Berklee degree, traveled the world playing hot violin music and is hobnobbing with the greatest NYC jazz stars. And oh yeah, one other thing: he took the art of chord-melody mandolin style to an entirely new level! The rich harmonies of the standard jazz and show tune repertoire, the swinging bass lines and connecting chords and independent voice movements (doing more than one thing at a time) are all present in Aaron's style, thanks to his great ear, open mind and gift at locating things on the fretboard. And now Aaron has documented, explained and shared his discoveries and approach with all of us in this book. Thank you Aaron! This is truly a step-by-step method that you will enjoy. You'll find yourself saying 'oh, of course!' as the author gets you playing and understanding things that sound very detailed and complex. The first section I would call the mandolinistic stuff: the how-to on getting things moving and connected on the fretboard. This part is laid out in a very logical manner with clear explanations and fun activities. After working through these etudes you will know the fretboard better and be a better mandolin playing musician regardless of what style of music is your favorite. As I looked this part over I recalled the parable about 'give someone a fish and he will have a meal. Teach him to fish and he'll eat the rest of his life..' The second part puts your new-found chops to work playing some great solo chord melody tunes Weinstein style. Again the author walks us gently into the material by providing two versions of each piece, the basic structure followed by a more developed version. In the history of mandolin playing there have been many examples of techniques, arrangements and music that might be thought of as 'chord-melody' style. Consider works by Raffaele Calace, or 'Duo' style from the early twentieth century American stylists and then again as modernized by Evan Marshall in the current era. Bach on the mandolin, as played by virtuosi such as Caterina Lichtenberg, Mike Marshall, Carlo Aonzo, Chris Thile and others also illustrates harmony and melody simultaneously. And of course Jethro Burns did so much in the way of bringing jazz and standards to life with chord-melody mandolin that it is often referred to as 'Jethro Style'. The book you have in your hand presents a unique and accessible route to these types of techniques and sounds. Bravo, Aaron! And thank you, my friend." Don Stiernberg.

This edition: study score. Music Of Our Time. Downloadable, Study score. Duration 100' 0. Schott Music - Digital #Q7038. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q7038). Latin • German. On letting go(Concerning the selection of the texts) In the selection of the texts, I have allowed myself to be motivated and inspired by the concept of “letting goâ€. This appears to me to be one of the essential aspects of dying, but also of life itself. We humans cling far too strongly to successful achievements, whether they have to do with material or ideal values, or relationships of all kinds. We cannot and do not want to let go, almost as if our life depended on it. As we will have to practise the art of letting go at the latest during our hour of death, perhaps we could already make a start on this while we are still alive. Tagore describes this farewell with very simple but strikingly vivid imagery: “I will return the key of my doorâ€. I have set this text for tenor solo. Here I imagine, and have correspondingly noted in a certain passage of the score, that the protagonist finds himself as though “in an ocean†of voices in which he is however not drowning, but immersing himself in complete relaxation. The phenomenon of letting go is described even more simply and tersely in Psalm 90, verse 12: “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdomâ€. This cannot be expressed more plainly.I have begun the requiem with a solo boy’s voice singing the beginning of this psalm on a single note, the note A. This in effect says it all. The work comes full circle at the culmination with a repeat of the psalm which subsequently leads into a resplendent “lux aeternaâ€. The intermediate texts of the Requiem which highlight the phenomenon of letting go in the widest spectrum of colours originate on the one hand from the Latin liturgy of the Messa da Requiem (In Paradisum, Libera me, Requiem aeternam, Mors stupebit) and on the other hand from poems by Joseph von Eichendorff, Hermann Hesse, Rabindranath Tagore and Rainer Maria Rilke. All texts have a distinctive positive element in common and view death as being an organic process within the great system of the universe, for example when Hermann Hesse writes: “Entreiß dich, Seele, nun der Zeit, entreiß dich deinen Sorgen und mache dich zum Flug bereit in den ersehnten Morgen†[“Tear yourself way , o soul, from time, tear yourself away from your sorrows and prepare yourself to fly away into the long-awaited morningâ€] and later: “Und die Seele unbewacht will in freien Flügen schweben, um im Zauberkreis der Nacht tief und tausendfach zu leben†[“And the unfettered soul strives to soar in free flight to live in the magic sphere of the night, deep and thousandfoldâ€]. Or Joseph von Eichendorff whose text evokes a distant song in his lines: “Und meine Seele spannte weit ihre Flügel aus. Flog durch die stillen Lande, als flöge sie nach Haus†[“And my soul spread its wings wide. Flew through the still country as if homeward bound.â€]Here a strong romantically tinged occidental resonance can be detected which is however also accompanied by a universal spirit going far beyond all cultures and religions. In the beginning was the sound Long before any sort of word or meaningful phrase was uttered by vocal chords, sounds, vibrations and tones already existed. This brings us back to the music. Both during my years of study and at subsequent periods, I had been an active participant in the world of contemporary music, both as percussionist and also as conductor and composer. My early scores had a somewhat adventurous appearance, filled with an abundance of small black dots: no rhythm could be too complicated, no register too extreme and no harmony too dissonant. I devoted myself intensely to the handling of different parameters which in serial music coexist in total equality: I also studied aleatory principles and so-called minimal music.I subsequently emigrated and took up residence in Spain from where I embarked on numerous travels over the years to India, Africa and South America. I spent repeated periods during this time as a resident in non-European countries. This meant that the currents of contemporary music swept past me vaguely and at a great distance. What I instead absorbed during this period were other completely new cultures in which I attempted to immerse myself as intensively as possible.I learned foreign languages and came into contact with musicians of all classes and styles who had a different cultural heritage than my own: I was intoxicated with the diversity of artistic potential.Nevertheless, the further I distanced myself from my own Western musical heritage, the more this returned insistently in my consciousness. The scene can be imagined of sitting somewhere in the middle of the Brazilian jungle surrounded by the wailing of Indians and out of the blue being provided with the opportunity to hear Beethoven’s late string quartets: this can be a heart-wrenching experience, akin to an identity crisis. This type of experience can also be described as cathartic. Whatever the circumstances, my “renewed†occupation with the “old†country would not permit me to return to the point at which I as an audacious young student had maltreated the musical parameters of so-called contemporary music. A completely different approach would be necessary: an extremely careful approach, inching my way gradually back into the Western world: an approach which would welcome tradition back into the fold, attempt to unfurl the petals and gently infuse this tradition with a breath of contemporary life.Although I am aware that I will not unleash a revolution or scandal with this approach, I am nevertheless confident as, with the musical vocabulary of this Requiem, I am travelling in an orbit in which no ballast or complex structures will be transported or intimated: on the contrary, I have attempted to form the message of the texts in music with the naivety of a “homecomerâ€. By Dick Weissman. For Guitar (All). This edition: Guitar Edition. Acoustic Music. 136 pages. Published by Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music
ISBN 9781610652407. The non-jazz improvisation series is a concept that germinated in Dick Weissman's mind while he was attending music school. He wrote a 15-piece arrangement of the old square dance tune, Cripple Creek, and wanted the trombone to take a solo as part of the arrangement. When the trombonist kept playing a bebop solo that was totally unsuitable for the chart, Dick realized that - in addition to the many musicians who do not improvise - there are even jazz musicians who don't know how to improvise outside the limits of their own stylistic backgrounds. Fingerstyle and flatpicking techniques demonstrate the use of the guitar as an incredibly versatile instrument that holds its own in a variety of musical genres. Various guitar tunings are included. All examples are written out in traditional and tablature notation.

Bassoon - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1474103 Composed by James Smith. Classical,Contest,Festival,Instructional,Multicultural,Traditional,World. Educational Method. 44 pages. Ensemble Llama Music #1051737. Published by Ensemble Llama Music (A0.1474103). I’m a bassoonist, and I don’t like the teaching materials for bassoon that are out there. There’s not enough depth and engagement in them, and nothing that supports the everyday music teacher. So I set out to create something that I would feel comfortable giving to my private students to help them grow as musicians. There are many types of music in the book: etudes, exercises, warm-ups, backwards and upside down duets (one person plays normally, the other person reads the music in an unusual way), improvised music, and composition. Musical styles range across a variety of cultures and genres such as classical, blues, fiddle tunes, marches, contemporary, musicals, and more. Using carefully crafted etudes, exercises, and songs in a variety of styles, your bassoon students are going to to find immediate success. The bite-sized examples encourage students to focus on tone, as they extend their technique and range on this wonderful instrument.
