Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1477423 Composed by Mari Miura. Arranged by Katsuo Mizushina. Classical,Contest,Festival. 79 pages. FOSTERMUSIC.JP Digital Publishing #1054001. Published by FOSTERMUSIC.JP Digital Publishing (A0.1477423). Tropical Cafe - at the Resort This piece is originally in a flute duet and piano version, arranged by Katsuo Mizushina for saxophone quartet. The suite is inspired by a story in a café at a resort, but can also be performed as excerpts. We would also be happy if the performers could freely enjoy the piece by adding piano and percussion instruments for optional parts and ad-libbing.Please imagine your favorite café and play it. (Mari Miura)Click here for piano accompaniment sound files.A clear blue sky.Reflected in a sea of sapphire.Waves lapping on the dazzling white of the beach glimmer in the sunlight. The Tropical Cafe, a charming building full of tourists on the shore. It has a mysterious power that transports you into the world of whatever you order.Word of its power soon spread, and now business is booming. But who will visit today? I.Bossa Nova on the Beach Today’s first customers are a group of girls who came to the beach for a holiday.“We need something to match our excitement!”“What could capture the radiance of the sun reflecting on the beach?”They’re having the time of their lives as they decide what to order.“This would be perfect!”One of the girls points out the Beach Bossa Nova. II.Anniversary Waltz At high noon, an elderly couple walks in.“Today is our wedding anniversary.”“We always talked about returning to this beach after we got married here, but we never got round to it.”“Until today!”The sun shining. Seagulls soaring across the sky. Waves gently lapping the shoreline. It was exactly as they’d remembered.Just like the waltz they danced at their wedding, they order the Anniversary Waltz. III.Songs of Nostalgia As the sun begins to set in the west, a customer dressed in unfamiliar clothes enters the cafe.“I wonder where this sea leads to.”The sun shines on half of his face, casting a long shadow.Thinking of his hometown, he gazes at the menu. His eyes tinged with sorrow, he comes across the Song of Nostalgia. IV.Happy Samba Flaming torches are lit as the sun falls beyond the horizon. When you feel a little lonesome as an exciting day draws to a close, treat yourself to the cafe’s most uplifting item. The Happy Samba!May tomorrow be filled with happiness.Click here for other works by Mari Miura.

Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1026730 Composed by Jesse Holan. Baroque,Contemporary,Graduation,Wedding. Score and parts. 30 pages. Jesse Holan Enterprises #6359543. Published by Jesse Holan Enterprises (A0.1026730). Big Sky March is dedicated to the Big Sky Conference and the fun times they enable us highly energetic college students to have at sporting events (and afterwards). The overall sequence of this brass quintet models a typical college party in eagle country, where our grit and love for a good time make us like pirates of the Inland PNW, with wheatfields for seas and grain silos for sails. Fittingly, I chose a 12/8 time signature for the first half, as this feels more lilting and perky. As much fun as this stage is, the piece begins to slowly correct itself at the French Horn solo, when things snap into 4/4 time and start feeling a little murkier and eventually more clear-headed. In the end, the ensemble regains the momentum they need to finish on a high note (and turn in that exam the next morning). The PDF download includes the score followed by each individual part.

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1229625 Composed by Bracy C. Martin Jr. Contemporary,Contest,Festival. Score and Parts. 50 pages. Bracy Martin #825385. Published by Bracy Martin (A0.1229625). Ocean and Sky is a beautiful and evocative piece of music that takes listeners on a captivating journey. It begins in the tumultuous, rough waters of the Gulf Stream, with energetic rhythms and soaring melodies that perfectly capture the powerful and unpredictable nature of this ocean current. As the piece progresses, it gradually transitions to more calm and peaceful waters, with a more relaxed tempo and gentler harmonies. The atmosphere becomes more serene, and the sound of the music reflects the beauty and tranquility of a clear sky above. As my first composition for concert band, It will be forever remembered and cherished.

Full set of parts: Please contact Chris Gordon at the email address on the first page of music for details.IF NOT NOW, WHEN? If Not Now, When? gets its title from the novel by Primo Levi, the Italian author who both survived life in Auschwitz and fought the continued German military presence in Italy with the Resistance after the Italian surrender to the Allies in September 1943. Levi meant that revolution and the overthrow of tyranny should never be 'put off until tomorrow'. If you believe you are on the side of right, then 'seize the day'- tomorrow may be too late. The inspiration for INNW? grew from research I was doing into an early song by Alban Berg called An Leukon which Berg wrote in 1907 while a student of Arnold Schoenberg. In delving into the kind of world which Berg inhabited in the Vienna of 100 years ago, I was fascinated by the café culture* which played a pivotal role in the lives of most artists: not only composers, but also writers, painters, architects and journalists. They swirled around the fashionable 'watering holes' sucking up current thoughts and ideas, high on Viennese coffee, cigar smoke and idealism! I envisaged a play which tried to encapsulate all this and wrote a few scenes with characters such as Schoenberg, Berg, Webern, Steuermann, Pisk, Kraus, Gropius and Altenberg heatedly discussing music, art and poetry over large cups of milky coffee. This grew into the framework for INNW? which, to paraphrase Pirandello's play about characters seeking an author, is a 'play without words in several scenes'. The piece is organised into 8 short movements or 'scenes' showing the 'Schoenberg cirle' sharing their radical and daring ideas and the shock or delight (or both simultaneously) with which those ideas are greeted. The first, which happens to be the longest, is rooted in conventional tonality. It begins with a fanfare in D flat major ('aux armes, citoyens!'), then seeks a 'freer' tonality by means of the 'emancipation of the semitone' only to capitulate in the central section and, finally, to 'fall back to earth' by winding down in G sharp minor. These 'scenes' are not meant to represent particular composers. They are, however, meant to represent the kinds of directions in which music could progress, given the 'breakdown' or 'stretching to its limits' of traditional harmony which had occurred in the previous 10 to 20 years. So many ways forward were promulgated, with one after another extraordinary, and often unexpected, futuristic musical panoramas glimpsed momentarily. My aim is to demonstrate which directions they decided they could head in having cleared the 'overgrown' path before them. * I even discovered that, around this time, in the Café Central, a certain Leon (Lev) Bronstein, otherwise known as Leon Trotsky, banished by the Okhrana (Imperial secrect police) from his native Russia, would spend all day in a back room playing chess. How delicious, I thought, if Schoenberg had ever brushed passed Trotsky or, indeed, had ever spoken to him: the one planning political and the other musical revolution!

String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.878900 Composed by Eric Moore. Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score and parts. 83 pages. Cello Loft #3420919. Published by Cello Loft (A0.878900). Written for an advanced high school cellist to play with his/her own school orchestra. This is a great way to feature a fantastic cellist while introducing the whole orchestra (and audience) to some accessible trends in contemporary music. The orchestra students were *very* excited and engaged with this piece, and the audience absolutely loved it.Compositional goals included:Accessible introduction to contemporary music.Fun and engaging parts for each section of the orchestraHighlight both cellist and orchestra with parts that sound difficult but are relatively simple.Clear-cut form and motivic material as a starting point for discussion of composition.Circles is 11:00 long, in 4 movements with no breaks.Mvt I. Circles begins high-energy and includes sweeping arpeggio figures and measured tremolo oscillations. The energy dissipates and a simple lyrical theme emerges, battling complications as they arise in the orchestra.Mvt II. Passacaglia is built over an exotic vamp and includes jete (to imitate castanets), col legno, snap pizz and instrument slaps. Mvt III. Lament begins with the soloist doing slow pizzicato arpeggiations while the orchestra bows weeping chords. Eventually, everyone is pizzicato, echoing and transforming the solo line. A cello cadenza recalls material from the Passacaglia. The soloist introduces triple-stop string crossings that lead into the fourth movement.Mvt IV. Coda is fast, with the triple stops in the solo part as a moto perpetuo, while the string sections come in one-by-one underneath. By the end, everyone is bowing and we circle back to the opening material of the 1st movement. The Soloist should be fluent through 3 octaves.Orchestra parts are easier and generally require fluency through 4th position. Written in 2011-12 and premiered by Eric with the Mountain View High School (Loveland, CO), Peter Toews conducting. Recording is of that premier. Eric can provide a MIDI if desired.Eric is happy to work with the orchestra and/or soloist via Skype (or a similar arrangement).
