Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792079). BIG RIFF is a new work by John Frith for 8-part Trombone Ensemble. It was written as the opening Anthem for Trombonanza 2017, which is a festival takes place annually in the town of Santa Fe, Argentina. Mr. Frith was commissioned to compose this work to open the Festival. The music is about 5 minutes in length and features strong Latin rhythms throughout. The work builds and builds as it adds layers of complexities including a jazz solo for one of the players. The all the middle parts are playable by intermediate performers. Part 1 can be performed on alto or tenor and goes up to high f's. Part 8 is quite low. The work ends in a big climax after building up throughout. Very fun work to perform with a massed group.

An unusual 13 bar statement of the melody with interludes highlighting a whole tone treatment. The drums have several sections where the tom toms are forefront (not the usual Sing Sing Sing toms). Contrasting textures throughout the piece with solos for tenor sax and piano (although any instrument works). A kickin’ out section. Lead trumpet up to D6 (written).

Fast! That?s the way to describe this arrangement. The rhythm section is blazing (270 beats a minute!), but the horns are in half time. This will be a work out for any rhythm section, but the horns will be able to play it with ease. I like to put one arrangement on every record that really pushes the players, and this is the ONE!!! You gotta check out the audio sample on this one! This is the closer of the concert/performance/service hands down. This one will take a little work, but it will be well worth it. Don?t let this one scare you. With some work from just one soloist (listening to the demo), you can pull this off and be so glad you did! This is the most flexible Holiday/Christmas project you will ever find! This arrangement features a soloist plus full big band. Here is where the unbelievable flexibility comes in! There is a written out part for EVERY solo for trumpet, trombone, saxophone and a vocalist. 4 complete versions of this arrangement were recorded with each one featuring a different solo instrument. (there is a trumpet, trombone, saxophone and vocalist version of the entire record) Also, this arrangement was recorded with full big band, but you could use a 2/2/2 horn section (trumpet/sax/trombone) if you do not have access to all the players. From the 2006 Ron Howard film adaptation of Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code, this track is taken from the soundtrack which underscores the final late night walk by Robert Langdon (played by Tom Hanks) through the streets of Paris to (possibly and hopefully) conclude his long and testing quest to seek the Holy Grail. No spoilers however. If you've not seen it, then add it to your playlist!The film's soundtrack evokes great emotion throughout and whatever criticisms there may have been over the years about the book, the story, the film etc.. this is definitely one of Hans Zimmer's finest emotional and thought provoking soundtrack scores, drawing from a huge range of musical influences, from the big symphonic oceanic sounscapes to the intimate vocal solo and choral plainchant that are peppered throughout the score. It is an example of how a soundtrack can really make a massive difference to what some might describe glibly as a popcorn movie.Very much like Time in Inception Zimmer takes a relatively simple harmonic and melodic trope and adds layers of melodic counter melody and rhythmic building to create an awe inspiring and (let's face it BIG!) climax, supporting the narrative of the film and story but also creating music that can be taken away from the cinematic experience and enjoyed for its own sake.This orchestration emulkates as closely as possible the soundtrack. Some licence has been taken with the addition of 2 Trumpets which build the climax with the upper strings. SATB choir is also scored as per the original soundtrack but optional as it is mostly covered by orchestral instruments and is also a very brief appearance but - at least for the sopranos - extremely challenging for anyone apart from a professional specialist choral ensemble. The synth section of the keyboard part in the opening pages can also be optional, adding some background sounds that Zimmer is so renowned for (this may be beyond the budget of some performing groups we appeciate).
