Noble and stately, Processional March is written for your second year beginning Band. The elements of this piece include dynamic contrasts, varying articulations, and a new time & key signature that is often not seen in first year literature, while maintaining an appropriate range for your students—for reference, the clarinets are under the break, with their highest note being the 3rd line Bb and the lowest being the B-natural below the staff. Processional March is written in 2/4, with the first half of the piece in Eb and the second in Bb. With a tempo marking of Moderato {quarter note = 108}, this march comes in under 3 minutes, making this piece an attainable piece to learn for any upcoming concert. The rhythmic structure of this piece is strict quarter and 8th note rhythms for all wind instruments. The snare drum part also has the same rhythmic structure, but also includes 9-stroke rolls, flams, flam-taps and paired 8th-two 16th rhythms. The percussion section has only four parts–Crash Cymbals, Snare/Bass Drum and Glockenspiel—making this ideal for any sized percussion section.Processional March follows an |:AA:|-B-C form. Throughout the piece, each instrument visits the harmonic structure beneath the melody, as well as playing the melodies featured in the different sections. Part-wise, all of the wind instruments are written in a comfortable range and have unison parts, with the flutes, clarinets and & trumpets having certain measures divided into two parts, still maintaining unison rhythms. The flutes are divided specifically into Flute 1 and Flute 2/Oboe, which is ideal if you do not have an oboe in your beginning band. Students will enjoy this straight forward march and directors will find rehearsing it to be enjoyable and allows for the teaching of newer techniques and skills to advance their band’s level of playing!

Arranged for your advanced high school band or community group, audiences will be delighted in this rendition that includes three main themed sections; Battle Hymn of the Republic—featuring a call-and-response with When Johnny Comes Marching Home and Yankee Doodle—God Bless America and America the Beautiful. Each instrument not only shares in performing the melodies throughout, but also is harmonized to fit these picturesque imageries of America in this arrangement. Patriotic Salute is driven by the attention given to rhythmic ingenuity. The percussion section—snare, bass, auxiliary, timpani and glockenspiel—are the motor of this piece. The percussionists’ unique parts are separate from the ornamentations and pulsating rhythms of the brass and woodwinds, but also align with many of the syncopated and off-beat rhythms in the harmonies, as well. While Patriotic Salute starts in the Key of F before settling in the key of Bb 2/3's of the way through, this arrangement by no means feels like a piece that sticks to just two keys, as modulations and borrowed chords are filled from top to bottom. Each section is also written in such a way that the chords are not only cross-sectional, but also fulfilled within the section, adding to the lush textures. As each instrument’s ranges are stretched high and low, so are the intricacies of each passage that exemplify each instrument’s unique technicalities. Patriotic Salute is not only satisfying to the audience members, but also enjoyable to the performers. If you are looking for a straight-forward, yet exciting piece for your Patriotic celebrations, this is the piece for your library!

A guaranteed hit with your students, Medallion March showcases each instrument throughout this piece. Every instrument takes a turn playing the featured melodies. This is especially great for your low brass and low woodwinds, whose parts are very active throughout. The trumpets and flutes lead the way with a victorious theme as the clarinets and saxes harmonize below with parallel rhythms. As we move through the first section, the trumpets and clarinets swap parts to give an even thicker sound. The driving rhythms of the 5-part percussion section keeps everyone moving in forward motion as the middle section’s melody is heard in the low brass and low woodwinds. As the conductor, Medallion March gives you the ability to incorporate phrasing, dynamic contrast and articulation that is seen throughout. Written in the key of Bb, each instrument’s parts can be played with ease, including the clarinets who are below written below the break. The percussionists have many opportunities to shine, as the colorfulness of the cymbals and triangles compliment the pulsating rhythms of the snare drum and bass drum. There is also an option for your flute players to play the 2nd line C above the staff in the repeated trio section, doubled by the bells. Medallion March makes for a great concert opener with its big sound and is also great for a concert finale. Your students will feel like they won a medal and leave your audiences wanting more!
