Piano Solo - Digital Download SKU: A0.1012131 Composed by Michael Staff. Contemporary. Score. 8 pages. Michael Staff #3587493. Published by Michael Staff (A0.1012131). Originally intended as the second movement of a sonata (following Dreams of a Somnambulist as the first movement), this work is highly chromatic, as the title indicates. It explores contrapuntal techniques in an intentionally-disorderly manner, as a chaotic counterpart to the often-used description of counterpoint as a conversation. Rather than a conversation, this 'argument' continuously weaves in and out of thematic ideas.

Written with a foot in both the Contemporary Classical and Jazz worlds, A Friendly Argument is a richly-textured saxophone quartet spanning from up-tempo, energetic grooves to intricate, legato counterpoint. Accessible to the casual listener while still being a rewarding challenge for the experienced ensemble, it strikes the perfect balance of musical sophistication and crowd-pleasing appeal. The interplay of the instruments, the layers of multimeter, and the satirical theatricality make for a rousing opener or solid closer. Full score and parts included in duplex-ready formatting. Preferred Contact Information: RMonteverdi@comcast.net Performing Rights Organization: BMI Website: robertgreenbergmusic.com Facebook Band Page: facebook.com/RobertGreenbergMusic Duration: ca. 21 minutes Year of composition: 1996 Program Note: I. Toccata/Hands of Steel II. Strum/Serenade III. O Tanenbaum (Toccata reprise) IV. Two-Part Contention V. John Doe VI. True Pluck A number of years ago, the great English guitarist Julian Bream told David Tanenbaum - the dedicatee of tonight's premiere - not to premiere a guitar work unless he knew for a fact it was the composer's second guitar work. Sage advice. The guitar is an instrument that gives up its secrets to a non-guitar playing composer only reluctantly. Indeed, the timbral, digital and chordal subtleties of this most subtle and intimate instrument are truly understood by the guitarist only. Pity the outlander who composes for the guitar for the first time! With this last thought in mind I had, until last fall, managed to avoid writing a guitar piece. However, even the most abject compositional coward will relent when a musician like David Tanenbaum asks for a piece and offers his assistance and critical judgement in its composition. So it was with PLUCK, composed between November of 1995 and January of 1996. Bream's advice notwithstanding, PLUCK is my first guitar piece. Tanenbaum is brave. The title, PLUCK, thus refers to both the action of plucking strings as well as pluck - bravery, grit, true grit. PLUCK is written in six interrelated movements. The first movement, Toccata/Hands of Steel introduces much of the essential pitch and harmonic material of the piece, as well as Flamenco-style rasgueado strumming which, try as I might, I could not resist using. Movement two, Strum/Serenade, explains itself in its title. Movement three, O Tanenbaum (a designation for which David has forgiven me) reprises the Toccata and describes, well, a sort of musical tree (David has forgiven me for this, too). Two-Part Contention is a combatative, argumentative movement that pits the treble strings of the guitar against the bass. Movement 5, John Doe is a lyric and mysterious moment of rest before the manic finale. Movement 6, True Pluck, is a fast, furious and virtuosic finale. PLUCK is dedicated, with greatest respect and affection, to my friend David Tanenbaum. May he only want to play my second guitar piece.

Instrumental Duet Cello,Flute,Instrumental Duet - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.773762 Composed by Anthony Giamanco. Concert,Contemporary,Standards. Score and parts. 5 pages. Whole Tone Press #5196425. Published by Whole Tone Press (A0.773762). This short, but expressive 12-tone work for flute and cello is an ideal choice for recital. In its brief eleven measures the instruments carry on a conversation, at times quite animated. A brief argument ensues, giving way to a peaceful resolution. This advanced work utilises constantly shifting meters, bounding leaps, and a wide range of dynamics. Best of all, it's great fun to play! Anthony Giamanco is a member of ASCAP. His many piano, organ, choir, and chamber works are in the catalogs of numerous publishers including GIA, Shawnee Press, Alfred, Augsburg Fortress, Lorenz, and others. Tuba Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.991806 Composed by Jason Allie. Romantic Period,World. Individual part. 14 pages. Joaba LLC #3129601. Published by Joaba LLC (A0.991806). Description Total Duration: 11 minutes. A vigorous, advanced level work suitable for encouraging students, hobbyists and professionals to improve or show off their performance skills. In an enjoyable and delightful manner, tubists will build dexterity, endurance, expressiveness, effective volume and range (going up to D/C# above the staff). This work will charm, captivate, and rouse/impress audiences. A great recital piece or encore piece to show off the melodiousness, harmoniousness and vibrancy of the tuba in whole or in part. Please send feedback, praises and more to contact@joaba.com. Performance Notes from the Composer Édesen Édesen translates to sweetly in Hungarian, and is this movement’s purpose: to be a centering, calming moment before the following tumult. The first 10 bars serve as an introduction to warm up to the melody. The melody has three contrasting articulations that must be respected: staccato, legato, and normal. The melody easily leads to high and low range notes-excellent for beginner/intermediate tubists to expand and solidify their range. Give more air for the range’s extremities so pitches don’t become too thin or muddled. The second theme in the dominant (E major) should be played with luscious legato and bright staccato. LassanLassan translates to slowly in Hungarian usually conveying stateliness or seriousness. This argumentative movement breaks the former’s idyll and sets the case for the next movement’s defiance and victory. The first section is to be played serious and strong. Increase air support for the higher pitches. Make the descending scales resound and bounce off the lowest notes. The second theme starting at 81 should be played with great charm and ease. For the solo passages, show-off but slow the tempo into the fermatas: (m77-80, m102-103, and m132-133). Friska Friska translates to fresh in Hungarian and in this case, it’s a duality of turbulence and final elation.Start the piece fast, but not too boisterous-embellishments are added in the repeat demanding boisterousness. Epitomizing the turbulence, the con moto sections (at m161 & m260) emphasize a 1 beat per measure feel-accelerate the tempo as is comfortable. The digressionary, crab-like sections (at m176 & m275) should be played as light as possible to help build up to the elated sections. The first elated section (m188) should be played as if gleefully discovered but not yet won; the second elated section (m291), with a victorious finality that cannot be diminished or tarnished.

Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1119919 By Mike Lyons. By Mike Lyons. Classical,Contemporary. Score and parts. 111 pages. Lyons Music Services #721269. Published by Lyons Music Services (A0.1119919). Festival:(Time 7:05) This is an original, previously unpublished piece, composed specifically for the ICF festival 2022. It is a programmatic piece in 3 sections, with each section being a description of some aspect of the word Festival. I have taken the broadest definition of the word festival to give as much scope for variety as possible. The first section opens with ‘sunrise’ on the day of the festival, shown by long-held open fourth chords, with the snapping of the violin pizzicatos (perhaps) being the rattle of tent lines/guys. The bass clarinet solo then shows people waking up and stretching, yawning and just before Letter A, the descending figures throughout the ensemble bring us all together to start the festival. From Letter A, one sets off at a marching pace through the crowds. We hear a mish-mash of vendors’ calls overlaying each other, repeating variations of the same motif and this little tune develops as it moves around the festival site, sometimes loud and sometimes faint. At some point, of course, arguments break out (e.g. Letter B between the strings and brass), but generally, the mood is business-like. At Letter C, there comes a parade of minstrels through the field which eventually fades off into the distance. At Letter D, we look at a different kind of festival. Not necessarily religious, but certainly spiritual. The harp and bell sounds evoke far-eastern temples while the string harmonics evoke an eerie stillness which is broken only by the melodic fragments (based on the 4ths of the first section) which pass around the orchestra. The theme is first heard on the Cor Anglais (echoed by the harp) which gives it a warmer, less piercing, sound than the oboe. The quartal chords at b.149 denote the vast mysteries of the cosmos. As our gaze widens, we are suddenly brought back to Earth with a rush as yet another kind of festival is evoked. This time we are looking briefly at the Indian subcontinent. Where fakirs charm snakes and young boys climb ropes only to disappear. The third and final section returns us to the British Isles, where the Celts are making merry in a festival. There is dancing, singing, feasting and drinking a-plenty. And, just when you think it’s all over, there’s a final push to get another dance going. The final chords are a reminder of the opening as we finish our revels as the sun descends below the horizon in a beautiful sunset.

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.976737 Composed by Manuel de Falla. Arranged by Robert Myers. 20th Century,Folk,World. Score and parts. 113 pages. WheatMyer Music #6621545. Published by WheatMyer Music (A0.976737). Andaluza, taken from Manuel de Falla’s piano suite Cuatro Piezas Españolas, is aimed at the mainstream high school band in the United States at the grade 4 level. Boisterous tuttis, intimate solos, and passionate melodies make for an engaging excursion into Spanish folk music that allows students to explore the adventurous harmonies of de Falla's impressionistic vocabulary. The variety of colors and energy in the modern concert band amplify the life, drama, and humanity de Falla poured into his piano version. Andaluza will thus prove a thrill for both performers and audience as it celebrates this life, drama, and humanity.Soprano Sax is called for on an expressive solo but is fully cued in oboe. The absence of this instrument need not prevent an integral performance of the music.Optional parts are provided for Eb Clarinet, Treble Clef Baritone, and Double Bass for those bands having these available.View a full preview score of Andaluza at my website (wheatmyermusic.com/product/andaluza) or drop an email and I'll provide a pdf of the score for your perusal.Andaluza is the fourth member of Manuel de Falla’s Cuatro Piezas Españolas for solo piano first published in 1909. My imagination runs wild contemplating what may be pictured in de Falla’s music. It certainly seems to be a civic gathering: perhaps a wedding, a baptism, a dedication, or a feast taking place in the civic square of perhaps on a hacienda. There are scenes that may be dancing, speeches, passionate sonnets, arguments, celebrations, all ending in a lingering mysterious question with a tinge of hopefulness. Whatever Falla may have have had in mind it is full of life, drama, and humanity.I first became aware of de Falla’s work, particularly Andaluza, in the summer of 2021 during an online orchestration seminar. Each of Cuatro Piezas’s movements expresses Spanish folk music idioms through an impressionistic lens reflecting Debussy’s influence on de Falla. Andaluza immediately struck me as music that would shine in the realm of the concert band. It was a joy to explore de Falla’s music, transforming the implications of the piano stylings into the nuances and colors available to the modern wind ensemble. It was just as much if not more challenging to develop this arrangement than creating my own original music typically proves to be. But it was so rewarding to have done so and I hope you find the rewards of listening just as much worth your effort.Robert MyersS.D.G.INSTRUMENTATION:PiccoloFlute 1, 2OboeBassoon 1,2Bb Clarinet 1, 2Bb Bass ClarinetBb Soprano SaxophoneEb Alto Saxophone 1, 2Bb Tenor SaxophoneEb Baritone SaxophoneBb Trumpet 1, 2, 3Horn in F 1, 2, 3, 4Trombone 1, 2Bass TromboneEuphonium TubaTimpani (4) Mallets: Xylophone, Glockenspiel, Vibraphone, MarimbaPercussion 1: Almglocken/Cowbell, Suspended Cymbal, Marimba, Snare Drum, Glockenspiel, Triangle, XylophonePercussion 2: Hand Cymbals, Suspended Cymbals, Snare Drum, Bongos, Mark TreePercussion 3: Tambourine, Castanets, Hand Cymbals, Rainstick, Gong, Tam, TamPercussion 4: Bass Drum, Suspended Cymbal, Gong, Tam Tam, WoodblocksOptional Parts: Eb Clarinet; Baritone T.C. 1, 2; Double Bass
