Instrumental Solo,Oboe d'Amore,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.552247 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Baroque,Concert,Easter,Sacred,Standards. Score and individual part. 12 pages. Jmsgu3 #3554879. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.552247). Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme (Awake, the voice is calling us) from Cantata BWV 140. Duration: ca. 4:00, Score: 6 pages, solo part 1 page, piano part: 4 pages. Program this for church services during the Easter season, weddings, or as a recital encore.Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme (Awake, the Voice is calling us) also known as: Sleepers Awake Bach composed his church cantata Wachet auf (BWV 140) as part of his second annual cantata cycle covering the entire annual church calendar. It is based on the hymn of the same name by Philipp Nicolai (1599). The hymn text covers the readings for the 27th Sunday after Trinity. Bach designed the cantata in seven movements, setting the stanzas in various forms. Among these forms are the chorale fantasia, the chorale prelude, and a four-part chorale. He casts the new lyrics as recitatives – in a manner similar to the opera. Fourth Movement Bach writes the fourth movement, Zion hört die Wächter singen (Zion hears the watchmen singing), in the style of a chorale prelude with the chorale phrases performed as a strict cantus firmus. The phrases seem to enter at times erratically against the famous lyrical melody. The violins play this melody in unison as a foil against the cantus phrases. The violin melody is so independent and complete that when the cantus melody appears it catches the listener at times totally off-guard. Bach later transcribed this movement for organ (BWV 645). This transcription became No. 1 of the Six Schübler Chorales. Bach Overview First of all, Johann Sebastian Bach is maybe the greatest composer in music history. Certainly, he was prolific. As a result, everyone has heard of his works. Furthermore, these works number well over a thousand. It seems like people are probably most familiar with the instrumental works such as the Brandenburg Concertos, and the Goldberg Variations. But, similarly famous are such noteworthy works as the Well-Tempered Clavier, the Musical Offering, and certainly the Art of Fugue. Seems like his most famous vocal works include the most noteworthy Mass in B Minor. Also, most noteworthy, though, are the St. John Passion, and certainly the Christmas Oratorio. History Bach came from a long line of musicians and above all, composers. Consequently, he, first of all, pursued a career as a church organist. So as a result, he gained employment in various Protestant churches in Germany. For a while, he worked as a court musician in Weimar and Köthen. Here he probably developed his organ style and likewise his chamber music style. Eventually, he, therefore, gained an appointment as Cantor of St. Thomas in Leipzig. Here he worked until difficulties with his employer ultimately drove him away. The King of Poland finally appointed him as court composer. Style It seems like Bach created a fascinating new international style. He synthesized elements of the most noteworthy European music ideas into his new style. Even more, this new style was probably his synthesis of European musical rhythm and form. Furthermore, he demonstrated a complete mastery of counterpoint and motivic development. His sense of harmonic organization probably propelled him to the top. Revival Mendelssohn conducted a Bach revival in the nineteenth century. His effort probably helped to re-familiarize the public with the magnitude of Bach’s works. During this period, scholars published many noteworthy Bach biographies. Moreover, Wolfgang Schmieder published the BWV (Bach Werke Verzeichnis). As a result, this is now the official catalog of his entire artistic output. The BWV number allows us to locate a work in the catalog. Sometimes scholars will simply use an S (Schmieder) as an abbreviation for BWV. &n.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1029541 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Alessio Niccolai. 20th Century,Contemporary. Octavo. 20 pages. Alessio Niccolai #5794845. Published by Alessio Niccolai (A0.1029541). The transcription for SATB Choir of the famous organ work of J.S. Bach, consists in a counterpoint explosion of the harmonies through a melodic construction that sometimes corresponds to one of the themes identifiable in the original piece and sometimes has been entirely reinvented; to facilitate the vocal performance of each of the four voices, Alessio Niccolai adapted a text to the musical sequences: it is made up of a set of ancient Latin proverbs. The execution is not the easiest: a casual pronunciation of Italian is certainly optimal for being able to correctly execute the Latin passages. Furthermore, the organ has its own native difficulty which could be significantly reduced with the performance on the piano (possibly in combination with an instrument that operates in the lower registers of the sound range) because the percussion of the hammers increases the auditory perception of the rhythm. However, the performance is not impossible even for an advanced amateur choir and guarantees an impact on the public. The idea of a transcription for choir of a purely organist work like this, was born in Alessio Niccolai's head from his first listening.

Choral Choir,Choral (SAB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1107023 Composed by Todd Marchand. Christian,Sacred. 5 pages. Con Spirito Music #709859. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1107023). Bread of the World, Bread of Heaven combines texts on the eucharist, or holy communion, by the Anglican bishop Reginald Heber (1783-1826) and the English Congregationalist author, editor, and hymn-writer Josiah Conder (1789-1855). The first stanza of Heber's Bread of the world in mercy broken focuses on the forgiveness of sin and sinners by Christ's grace as they gather at the Lord's table, while Conder's Bread of heav'n, on thee we feed emphasizes the restoration to health and wholeness of those who eat and drink of Christ's Body and Blood. Both texts refer to the sacramental bread and wine as the gifts by which our souls are fed. In this original setting for SAB choir and organ, Heber's text is set to a chant-like tune for unison SA voices in D minor, which transitions to a chorale-like setting of Conder's text for full SAB in D major. ©Copyright 2022 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). Piano Solo - Digital Download SKU: A0.1337362 By Dirk Chan. By Gabriel Faure. Arranged by Dirk Chan. 19th Century,Classical,Religious,Romantic Period,Sacred. Score. 4 pages. Dirk Chan Music Pty Ltd #923178. Published by Dirk Chan Music Pty Ltd (A0.1337362). Libera Me from Faure Requiem in D Minor Op.48 Arranged for Solo Piano is my arrangement of this beautiful work by Gabriel Fauré. Written from 1887 to 1900, the requiem originally for baritone, soprano, choir, organ and orchestra contains the Libera Me, which begins with a pulsing baseline, haunting melody by the baritone, with harmonies of Faure filled with nostalgia and romanticism. The middle section chorale is a brief interlude before a forte section followed by a return of the pulsing baseline to invite in the return of the melody and first subject, to a soft finish. This piece is a wonderful journey, one of the most beautiful works by Faure and the romantic classical music era, and wonderful to play and listen to. Enjoy!

Duration: ca. 2:30 The famous Pachelbel Canon arranged for Oboe d'Amore & Harp. A great choice for weddings & receptions! Pachelbel's Canon Pachelbel's Canon is, in fact, the traditional title for a composition by the German composer Johann Pachelbel. Other names for the work include namely: Canon and Gigue for 3 violins and basso continuo, Canon and Gigue in D, and of course Canon in D. We do not know when or why in particular it was written. The oldest copy is surprisingly from the 19th century. It is important to realize that it was a common routine for organists to practice improvisation on the chord progression underlying the canon. Pachelbel originally scored the Canon notably for three violins and continuo. He also in fact paired the Canon with a gigue. The movements are homotonal, to clarify, both are in the key of D major. History In due time, Pachelbel's Canon went out of style and remained in virtual oblivion for centuries. The Jean-François Paillard chamber orchestra, however, recorded an arrangement of it in 1968. As a result, it gained approval. Many ensembles began likewise to record the piece in the 1970s and by the 1980s became ubiquitous as background music. From the 1970s to the early 2000s, pop songs correspondingly used elements of the piece. The chord progression, in particular, was used this way. Also, since the 1980s, it has been not only wildly popular for weddings, but also for funeral ceremonies in the USA and Europe. Pachelbel Background Johann Pachelbel (1653 –1706) was a German composer, as well as an organist. He was furthermore instrumental in bringing the south German organ school to its apex. He wrote a large body of music, both sacred and, equally important, secular. In particular, he uniquely helped develop the chorale prelude and fugue. For this, he has, in fact, earned a rightful place in the company of the most significant composers of the mid-Baroque period. Works Pachelbel's music was certainly popular. With this in mind, he also consequently had many pupils. His music expressly developed into a model for south German composers. Nowadays, Pachelbel is most famous, particularly for the Canon in D, as well as the F minor Chaconne, the Toccata in E minor, and of course the Hexachordum Apollinis, a set of variations for the keyboard. Influences Johann Jakob Froberger and Johann Caspar Kerll were south German composers who significantly influenced Pachelbel. Furthermore, he was especially influenced by Italians such as Frescobaldi and Poglietti. He frequently preferred an articulate, simple contrapuntal style that highlighted clarity. His music is markedly less extravagant and harmonically adventurous than that of Dieterich Buxtehude. However, as a point often overlooked, like Buxtehude, Pachelbel experimented with different instrumental combinations in his chamber music. Legacy All in all, Pachelbel was most famous as a composer for the keyboard. He composed over two hundred pieces specifically for the instrument. Pachelbel was also surprisingly a prolific composer of vocal music. All in all, about a hundred vocal works survive, including 40 or so large-scale works.
