If you like the music, these pieces also sound great with a larger full instrumentation.PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, soulful is defined as full of or expressing feeling or emotion. In a soulful manner, the piece begins with the familiar song When Peace Like a River. This soulful hymn insists on finding peace, regardless of the world’s sorrows. The music then moves to a majestic trumpet processional. Entitled Soulful Peace, this tune honors those who made it possible for us to feel peace: parents, caregivers, family members, mentors, teachers, friends, and veterans who have served our country. Whether we feel the soulful melody in honor of them or in their memory, they remain an important part of our peace. After shifting to a calming woodwind verse, the processional then crescendos to a very emotive, full band verse. After the climax, the processional settles and gives way to a delicate chorus of It is Well With My Soul. The hymn tune begins delicately in the flutes, yet the brass echo the stately processional. The hymn majestically builds toward its own climax, accompanied by a trumpet fanfare. This triumphant piece reminds us that it can indeed be Well With My Soul!.

The full ensemble then enters, combining traditional carol with the lively accented rhythm. The piece then softly passes the melody between sections. The melody is further passed around as instruments are added. The piece finally gives way to a bombastic combination of the traditional carol and the introductory riff. The melody is then softly passed between sections once more, and then this section finally builds to a full orchestral finish. I sincerely hope you enjoy my arrangement, and I hope that it helps to make your musicians successful!Important Compositional ElementsKey: The Key of Ab lends itself more to limited-range playing than the Key of Bb does. While this is not the traditional philosophy, my experience has shown me that most students can learn to play successfully in the Key of Ab even if they are still working on their extended range.Range: Players have the option to play the extended ranges. However, parts are doubled at the octave where necessary for players with more beginning/limited ranges. THIS ALLOWS FOR A WIDER RANGE OF ABILITY LEVELS IN SMALLER BANDS TO SUCCESSFULLY PLAY TOGETHER.

This is a common theme running through Christmas Carol literature. Conceived as a fun, accessible overture for young bands or bands with limited instrumentation, A Celebration of Bells highlights two of the most beloved Christmas carols associated with bells. The piece begins with a joyful brass bell-tone fanfare accompanied by trilling woodwinds. The introduction gives way to mostly-unison woodwind rendition of I Heard the Bells On Christmas Day. The brass then further works out the melody with a more chordal presentation. The woodwinds present a short, light interlude, followed by an explosive snare drum and full-band chord one key higher than the beginning. First sung in the 15th Century and first published int he 16th Century, this hymn is still popular in the 21st Century. In multiple different contexts, the hymn compares the beauty of Christmas to that of a lovely rose. The most common harmonization to this melody was composted by Michael Praetorius in 1609, and the original part-writing contains elements of the Renaissance madrigal. Although this band arrangement is rescored with different part-writing, it pays some homage to the musical traditions employed in the original carol. This theme and variations is a mixture of four different scoring methods: modern Christmas Carol; gently-applied lyrical contemporary; Renaissance imitation; and a bombastic, Romantic orchestral finish. This piece features multiple subtle musical sensibilities and a gentle introduction into the world of mixed meter. I sincerely hope you enjoy this arrangement!

The song takes place at a famous market fair in Scarborough, Yorkshire, England during Medieval times. Although the historical Scarborough Fair no longer takes place, some British communities still celebrate the original event in September. Using the Dorian mode, this folk song often invokes both beauty and mystery. This arrangement is a theme and variations and is conceived as a mysterious adventure (programmatic Information for each section contained within the score).
