The work draws on original and early piano editions as well as the first guitar transcription made by Severino García Fortea who introduced key innovations familiar to most classical guitarists. Guitarists are encouraged to use this arrangement in consultation with the transcriptions by García Fortea, Andrés Segovia, and Stanley Yates. Asturias is known for its abrupt chord interruptions which gives it its distinctive character. In the original, less well known, transcription for guitar by García Fortea, these were plucked with the thumb and three fingers simultaneously. Segovia expanded the chord to a full six strings which is strummed. This six-string variation is now adopted as standard in nearly all classical guitar versions and the work of García Fortea has all but been forgotten. Stanley Yates was aware of García’s version, though seems to have been misdirected by Segovia and did not appear to get hold of García’s work before making his own transcription. A key difference between the piano versions and guitar versions is the fact that the pedal note is missing immediately following the chords played on the first notes of the bar. This seems to be a pragmatic decision made due to the technical challenge of articulating a chord on the guitar and then immediately following up with a pedal note. It may have been also a decision to more strongly emphasise the chord. However, the composer clearly indicated that the chord should be as short as all of the other notes and hence it is reasonable to strike the chord and immediately lose it and start the pedal note.

Francsco Trrega (1852 ? 1909) il fondatore della Scuola Chitarristica Spagnola, la solache pu vantare pi di 150 anni distoria e un unico filo conduttore.
Partitodall?opera di Fernando Sor (1778 ?1839) e di Dionisio Aguado (1784 ?1849), Trrega ampli e affin la tecnica, arricchendo la chitarra classica dinuovi mezzi espressivi e di repertorio. Tali innovazioni sono giunte fino ainostri giorni grazie ai suoi numerosi discepoli diretti, tra cui Miguel Llobet, Daniel Fortea e PascualRoch e indiretti: Andrs Segovia,Regino ed Eduardo Sainz de la Maza, AlirioDaz, Pasqualino Garzia e molti altri.
Emilio Pujol (1886 ? 1980), che studi con Trrega durante gliultimi 7 anni di vita di quest?ultimo, raccolse l?eredit del Maestro in un monumentalemetodo, in 4 volumi, di inestimabile valore: la Escuela Razonada de la Guitarra,basada en los principios de la tcnica de Trrega, con una prefazione di Manuel De Falla, portando a termine ci che perTrrega rest un sogno e che la morte prematura non gli permise neanche diiniziare.
Il Caprichorabe, scritto nel1899, forse la composizione pi celebrata di Trrega, dopo Recuerdosde la Alhambra.
In questarevisione ho tenuto presente la versione pubblicata in Spagna dall?editore UnionMusical Espaola e le biografie pi importanti scritte su Trrega:EmilioPujol: Trrega (Edizioni: L?empreinte mlodique), Wolf Moser: Francisco Trrega yla guitarra en Espaa entre 1830 y 1960 (Edizioni: Piles) e AdrinRius Espins: Francisco Trrega, una biografadocumental (Edizioni:Orphenica Lyra).
Alla luce di taliletture, ho ritenuto opportuno segnare le dinamiche e omettere alcuniabbellimenti e glissati. Lo stesso Trrega, infatti, pare ebbe dei ripensamentia riguardo. Ho mantenuto, pertanto, quelli nelle ripetizioni, tagliando glialtri. Ho aggiunto e cambiato alcune diteggiature di entrambe le mani, considerandol?evoluzione della chitarra classica anche dal punto di vista della costruzione,nonch la tecnica flamenca. Infine, l?idea nell?Introduzione, di eseguire laseconda scala discendente, interamente con la sola mano sinistra, , invece,totalmente mia.
