\\\"Resonet in Laudibus\\\" (\\\"Let the voice of praise resound\\\") is a Medieval carol known in Europe at least since its appearance in the Moosburg Gradual of 1360, and probably much earlier. Today, it is well-known as the tune accompanying the text of the traditional German carol, \\\"Joseph Lieber, Joseph Mein\\\" (\\\"Joseph Dearest, Joseph Mine\\\") and John Mason Neale\\\'s \\\"Christ Was Born on Christmas Day.\\\" The tune appears in the Medieval songbook, Piae Cantiones (Pious Songs), compiled by the Finnish priest and headmaster Jaakko Suomalainen (aka Jacobus Finno, or \\\"James the Finn\\\") and published in 1582. Ralph Vaughan Williams harmonized the tune and included it in the English Hymnal (1906), of which he was music editor. In the carol, Mary asks Joseph to help her with their child, and almost like a thoroughly modern man, Joseph eagerly agrees to rock the baby. These variations are most appropriate for the Christmas season, but also in Catholic communities that observe St. Joseph's Day on March 19.

Samuel Augustus Ward (1848-1903), composer and organist at Grace Episcopal Church, Newark, New Jersey, composed his tune ?MTERNA? to accompany the hymn text ?O Mother Dear, Jerusalem? in 1882, and it was first published in 1892. Katherine Lee Bates (1859-1929), poet and teacher, wrote the poem ?Pikes Peak? during a visit to Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 1893, and it was published under the title ?America? in the church periodical, The Congregationalist, in 1893. Bates's poem, which she revised in 1904 and 1913, was first published with Ward's music in 1910 under the title ?America the Beautiful.? Samuel Ward never met Katherine Bates, having died in 1903; yet ?America the Beautiful? has become one of the best-loved American patriotic songs. This very accessible yet effective arrangement features an introductory fanfare followed by a straightforward presentation of the tune, a return of the fanfare and modulation to new key with extended harmonies, and a concluding return of the fanfare. ©Copyright 2014 Todd Marchand / ConSpiritoMusic.com

“Shepherds’ Rocking Carol” is a traditional Czechoslovakian folk tune (“Hajej, nynej, Jezisku”) with lyrics loosely translated by the Anglican clergyman, Percy Dearmer. With Ralph Vaughan Williams, Dearmer was co-editor of The English Hymnal (1906) as well as The Oxford Book of Carols (1928), in which his translation, “Little Jesus, Sweetly Sleep,” appears with the Czech tune.<br> <br> This arrangement for young/developing band is an ideal vehicle for the budding oboist, featuring the oboe on melody in the first presentation of the tune and recapitulating at the work’s end. (A clarinet solo / substitute for oboe part is provided.)<br> <br> Although conservative in range and technical demands, “Shepherds’ Rocking Carol” incorporates a variety of instrumental, dynamic, and harmonic contrasts that make it both simple and elegant, and ideal for developing musicianship in every section of the band.

It was released on March 19, 2018. This arrangement takes this mash up and adapts it for traditional British Brass Band.

The national anthem of Bulgaria arranged for Symphony Orchestra, Mila Rodino (Мила Родино [miɫɐ rɔdino], translated as Dear Motherland or Dear native land) is the current national anthem of Bulgaria.There are alternative versions for Symphony & Brass Quintet in my stores.It is based on the music and text of the song Gorda Stara Planina by Tsvetan Radoslavov, written and composed as he left to fight in the Serbo-Bulgarian War in 1885. The anthem was adopted in 1964. The text has been changed many times, most recently in 1990.Between 1886 and 1944, the Bulgarian national anthem was Shumi Maritsa (Шуми Марица); from 1950 to 1964, it was My Bulgaria, land of heroes (Balgariyo mila, zemya na geroi, Българийо мила, земя на герои); in the brief period between these two, it was the march Republiko nasha, zdravey (Републико наша, здравей!).Originally written and composed by a Bulgarian student in 1885, as he went off to fight in the Serbo-Bulgarian war, the song was titled “Горда Стара планина” (“Gorda Stara planina”) [Proudly Rise the Balkan Peaks]. The original lyrics have undergone revisions since its original composition, the latest after the fall of the communist government in 1990 where verses not in the original lyrics speaking of friendship with Russia, the Communist Party, and fallen fighters were removed.
