Higher Ground ("I'm pressing on the upward way") — brass quintet

Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1172085 Composed by Charles H. Gabriel. Arranged by Todd Marchand. 19th Century,Christian,Sacred,Traditional. 16 pages. Con Spirito Music #772348. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1172085). Higher Ground (I'm pressing on the upward way) is a 19th-century American gospel song with lyrics by Johnson Oatman, Jr. (1856-1922) and music by Charles Hutchinson Gabriel (1856-1932).Both Oatman and Gabriel were prolific writers. Oatman, an ordained Methodist Episcopal minister employed primarily in retail and insurance work, is said to have written over 5,000 hymns and songs in the latter 30-some years of his life.  Although not a talented singer nor recognized as an outstanding preacher, he was acknowledged to have ministered to countless souls through the words of his hymns and songs.Gabriel, a Methodist Episcopal church music director and editor of gospel song books, anthem collections, music instruction manuals, and more, is said to have written between seven and eight thousand texts and/or tunes under his own name and several pseudonyms. In addition to the music for Higher Ground, he composed the music for such well-known gospel songs as His Eye is on the Sparrow and Will the Circle Be Unbroken? The opening line of Oatman’s text (I'm pressing on the upward way) draws especially from Philippians 3:13-14: “Forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.†Other sources include passages from the prophets Isaiah and Micah and the Psalms of Ascent (120-134). Gabriel's music cleverly evokes the upward vision of the text with an ascending arpeggio spanning an octave on the first words of the refrain (Lord, lift me up) and the matching of the highest notes of the tune to the words a higher plane. This arrangement for brass quintet expands the meter of the tune from 3/4 to 4/4 to allow for some countermelodic call-and-response by various voices in the ensemble. Every member will enjoy a lyrical part to play in this arrangement, which is fitting as a prelude, offertory, or special musical selection in worship, and ideal as a lyrical selection on recitals. ©Copyright 2023 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1372693 By Alicia DomÃnguez Arcos Sonay. By Joan Manuel Serrat. Arranged by Alicia DomÃnguez Arcos. Film/TV,Multicultural,Pop,Praise & Worship,Singer/Songwriter,World. 30 pages. Alicia Dominguez #957004. Published by Alicia Dominguez (A0.1372693). In these 112 measures for the twinning of Istanbul-Algeciras I have wanted to incorporate concepts from both parties, with the respect that the composition of Don Joan Manuel Serrat deserves in which in 1970 he sang “Mare Nostrum†(Nostrum mare more correctly in Latin classic, being one of the popular anthems of Spain and therefore a cultural heritage. Therefore it can be used instrumentally or if required, there is a number in the score of which, although the guitar has a melody and one of the choral voices, with two guitars, or make two choral voices or join with your own melody, use both bowed string instruments and plucked strings, etc.Likewise, there are two voices, of which a single voice can use the phrasings of both one voice and the other, giving it its own personality. The tempo will be whatever the interpretation itself wants, much slower, without accelerating so much between the beginning and the moment of the song itself. I have incorporated some instruments into the arrangement as examples:Buzukibouzouki, like the sazturco and the Lebanese Buzuq, which belong to the same family of Buzuki instruments. And as percussion only percussion The Turkish Darbuka is a percussion musical instrument The Turkish Darbuka is a percussion musical instrument from Turkey. The Turkish Darbuka have a high range of low and high resonant tones that sound between the two registers; serious (Dum) and acute (Tek). The edge or lip allows for finger breaking techniques that are not possible in the Egyptian Darbuka. And the Tombak, also called Dombak Ozarb, is a chalice-shaped drum, traditionally built with a hollowed-out biker or walnut trunk covered with skin at one end. With the beginning and among the work itself I wanted to give place to the Bashraf (Turkish Pesrev and Persian Pishraw, which means Overture) and the Sama'i (Turkish Sam Semai) Instrumental genre that is used in the Turkish court and in Sufi music . They were introduced into the Arab world before the 19th century. And also give place in his forms to the Ottoman composer Ismail Hakkibei (1866-1927). Unite Serrat with Hakkibey with this Istanbul-Algeciras work.Although the Bashraf is always made up of four points, Khanat (Plural Dekhana) or Hanne in Turkish, which are always followed by a chorus (Taslim / Teslim), its structure being Khana 1+ Taslim, Khana 2, Khana 3+ Taslim, Khana 4 + Taslim. The fragments must be incorporated since the main base is the Mediterranean pop theme. For this reason, its original rhythm is the Defâhte (In Arabic, Faakhito Fahitah Turki. Being a 20/4 time signature subdivided into 5 sub-groups of 4/4 where the complete cycle coincides with the phrases of the theme. Without forgetting that in music Arabic with the oriental rhythm Lsaada Duyukde 8/8 making a cycle for each measure of 4/4, that is, cycles per phrase, if those written for Western reading in 4/4 with double durations and simplicity. Unit of time: quarter note , coincides in two phrases of 5 measures per staff for a better understanding of the form of the piece, also within a written Arabic version of the theme the unit of time is eighth note 8/8 in G, but it had to be incorporated into Mediterráneo and it is always It is more feasible to think of the human voice as being more limited than instrumentation such as flute, plucked leather instruments, and bowed string instruments.Instrumentation:FluteGuitar 1 (1st voice melody)Guitar 2 (2nd voice melody)Bass (accompaniment and chords)BuzukiSazDarbukaTombakVoice 1st2nd voiceSMATB Voices1st violin2nd violinViolaCellosDouble basses.

Flute - Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Pat Holmberg. 21st Century, Ragtime, Repertoire. Score. 24 pages. Published by Patricia Tanttila Holmberg
Here are fourteen ragtime style flute duets - very contrapuntal - equally challenging and fun in both parts - sure to help teenage flute students keep on with their lessons! Below, find some reviews by flute teachers:Here are some reviews for these duets from flute teachers: ByDr. Mom on November 19, 2013 As a flute teacher, I watch for new and interesting music for my students. These Rags are terrific! They are harmonically and musically interesting, introduce a style to the students with which they may be unfamiliar yet has a "jazzy" feel, and are simple enough in range, rhythm and length (they're relatively brief) to be approachable to the intermediate student - a level at which one often needs interesting music to keep them going! - and above. I had one student who is versed in jazz (plays jazz trumpet) who tried to swing these, so I had the opportunity to work with him on how Rags differ from "swung" jazz, which was kind of fun. I feel these duets fill a need in the modern flute studio, and recommend them highly. Something to Rag about - for students & performers a-like! By Em on November 16, 2013 This 12-piece book is a delightful introduction to ragtime for flutists, who usually don't get the chance to play much jazz or "rag" music. What I perhaps enjoy most about the book is, the 2nd flute part has many chances for nice melodic interplay or fun walking bass lines to accompany the 1st flute. (Unlike many duet books that have a rather stagnant bass line for the 2nd flute/accompaniment.) If you are playing with students who are new to the territory, it is a great book to have them develop an ear for jazz chords. You'll need to review how to swing eighths, since that isn't covered here --it's for Intermediate players after all :). The lines should not be incredibly challenging though, and it is presented in such a way that whether up or down tempo, it's still fun to play. I did like playing most of the pieces up-tempo, though! My top favorite pieces are #5- "Forget-Me-Not", #6 - "Cotton Candy Rag", #11 - "High Country Stomp" (it's nice got a nice lilting feel) and #12- "Green Mountain Saunter." There is a great variety, and each piece has a memorable melody. Grab a flutist friend and play these! If you like to have up-beat and playful tunes (especially during these cold winter months) these will warm you up real fast. Hi Patricia,The Ragtime Miniatures for Two Flutes – Set 1 Intermediate by Patricia Holmberg lends itself to development in rhythmic and reading skills. It offers studies of syncopated rhythms in 4/4 and 12/8. The 12/8 duets support improvement in the student’s triple feel. Also, the changes in meter challenge and support the enhanced reading skills of the student. Furthermore, the chromatic tones offer stylistic colors to the student’s assortment of fingering patterns. Students using the book had a positive response to the melodic content: it was fun to play—a breath of fresh air.Thank you for bringing your book to my attention. We await set two. Phyllis G. Ragtime Miniatures- Intermediate By Jean A. E. on November 7, 2013 This is Intermediate level music, it can satisfy several levels of players, and altho rags come over stylistically the same , these are varied enough . Except for mostly using flat key signatures, and having some confusion in finding your way around repeats and da capos, these are pleasant little works, some of which would make nice concert encores. The only feature I as a performer corrected when my friend and I played them thru was to 8 va some of the too low 2nd parts. Doing this seemed to improve the voicing. So In general, nice work,Pat!!Professional Flutist/ performer Jean A. "Back to School 2015".
