Choral Choir,Choral (SATB divisi) - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.900166 By Sarah Labrie, Conductor - Chamber Choral Conducting Workshop, Sarteano, Italy. By Mary Ellen Haupert. Easter,Sacred,Spiritual. 5 pages. Mary Ellen Haupert #3031789. Published by Mary Ellen Haupert (A0.900166). ILLUMINE LE TENEBRE (SSAATTBB) For Jean Saladino and the Viterbo University Concert Choir TRANSLATION of TEXT: Most High, glorious God, enlighten the darkness of my heart and give me true faith, certain hope and perfect charity, sense and knowledge, Lord, that I may carry out your holy and true command. Amen. - St. Francis of Assisi's Prayer before the Crucifix NOTES from the composer: One year ago, I had the privilege of participating in the Leadership Pilgrimage to Assisi and Rome (2011) sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, Franciscan Healthcare, and Viterbo University. I carried with me, not only the responsibility of bringing back a hint of Francis’ lived experience to my students, but the desire to compose something wholly Franciscan. The San Damiano Cross is one of the most distinctive Franciscan images we have on campus. The gentle Jesus that hangs on this 12th-century icon will forever be linked to Francis’ dramatic step from citizen to sainthood-welcoming his earnest prayer to enlighten the darkness of his heart. The Basilica of Santa Chiara in Assisi holds both the San Damiano Cross and the remains of his confidante, St. Clare. It seemed a good place to start getting serious. Copying the prayer in at least six different languages, I tucked it away in my travel books, not digging it out again until the following summer (2012). The opening phrases in the piece came easily enough (Altissimo, glorioso Dio), but I stumbled through a handful of ideas before coming up with the mantra (illumine le tenebre…). It made sense that Francis would joyfully address God singing forte (Altissimo and Signore), while quietly chanting his humble prayers for faith, hope, charity, and knowledge. The friendship between Francis and Clare can’t be missed, not only in the intermingling of SATB voices, but in the setting of che faccia lo tuo santo e verace comadamento (that I may carry out your holy and true command). The phrase is sung only once by the women before the final return of the illumine chant (which is repeated throughout by the men). Maybe I chanced on weaving some of Clare’s courage with Francis’ persistence into Illumina le tenebre, all while trying to compose something wholly Franciscan? ---Mary Ellen Haupert, October 2012. Solo Guitar - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1264075 By The Police. By Sting. Arranged by Pablo Alcázar. Pop,Rock,Singer/Songwriter. Individual part. 3 pages. Pablo Alcázar #856983. Published by Pablo Alcázar (A0.1264075). This arrangement of Every Breath you Take (for solo guitar) fits perfectly for Classical (spanish) and acoustic guitars because every chord sounds fully along with the melody and the bass gives a unique feeling of the rhythm. It's made for solo guitar and it's appropiate for begginers that look for a challenge or intermediate guitarist that want something fresh and new to play. Also is a very good arrangement for professional players that need repertoire for wedding events.Every Breath You Take is a song by the English rock band the Police from their album Synchronicity (1983). Written by Sting, the single was the biggest US and Canadian hit of 1983, topping the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for eight weeks (the band's only No. 1 hit on that chart), and the Canadian RPM Chart for four weeks. Their fifth UK No. 1, it topped the UK Singles Chart for four weeks. The song also reached the Top 10 in numerous other countries.Sting wrote the song in 1982 in the aftermath of his separation from Frances Tomelty and the beginning of his relationship with Trudie Styler. Their split was controversial. As The Independent reported in 2006, The problem was, he was already married – to actress Frances Tomelty, who just happened to be Trudie's best friend. Sting and Frances lived next door to Trudie in Bayswater, West London, for several years before the two of them became lovers. The affair was widely condemned. To escape the public eye, Sting retreated to the Caribbean. He started writing the song at Ian Fleming's writing desk on the Goldeneye estate in Oracabessa, Jamaica. The lyrics are the words of a possessive lover who is watching every breath you take; every move you make. Sting recalled:I woke up in the middle of the night with that line in my head, sat down at the piano and had written it in half an hour. The tune itself is generic, an aggregate of hundreds of others, but the words are interesting. It sounds like a comforting love song. I didn't realise at the time how sinister it is. I think I was thinking of Big Brother, surveillance and control..

The Butterfly

Flute,Vibraphone,Voice - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1089176 Composed by Daniel Burwasser. Contemporary. 8 pages. Head and Stem #693387. Published by Head and Stem (A0.1089176). Pavel Friedmann wrote the poem “The Butterfly†in 1942 in the Terezin Ghetto when he was 21. He was murdered in the Auschwitz extermination camp in 1944. Pavel was born in 1921 in Prague, Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic) to a Jewish father and a Christian mother. The Butterfly is a living symbol of the beauty of freedom. Such a free spirit could never have survived the confines of the Warsaw ghetto. But while the butterfly did fly away, the spirit and love of freedom it represented never left the souls of the Jews of the ghetto. They always prayed that one day the barbed wire would come down and the butterfly would reappear. The butterfly flutters there today, but many of the Jews who prayed for its return did not live to welcome it back. The first performance of The Butterfly was given on May 8, 1988 at JASA in New York City. The performers were: Andrew Bolotowsky, flute Glenn Rhian, vibraphone Mimi Stern-Wolfe, reciter There are at least two versions of the poem The Butterfly due to different translations. This work uses VERSION 2 as translated here: The last, the very last, So richly, brightly, dazzlingly yellow. Perhaps if the sun's tears would sing against a white stone... Such, such a yellow carried lightly way up high. It went away I'm sure because it wished to kiss the world goodbye. For seven weeks I've lived in here, penned up inside this ghetto, but I have found my people here. The dandelions call to me and the white chestnut candles in the court. Only I never saw another butterfly. That butterfly was the last one. Butterflies don't live in here, In the ghetto. For more information, go to: https://www.danielburwasser.com/To contact the composer directly, go to: danielburwasser9@gmail.comYoutube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@danielburwasser60.

Woodwind Ensemble Clarinet - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.891971 Composed by Ludvig Schytte. Arranged by Stephen Davies. Romantic Period,Standards. 56 pages. Stephen Davies #6294323. Published by Stephen Davies (A0.891971). Clarinet Sextet, very loosely based on SONATA by LUDVIG SCHYTTE. In this arrangement I have taken the liberty of fusing Victorian harmonies with a much more jazz based chordal approach, this behemoth of 306 bars has only one semi-quaver hidden away! Ludvig Schytte (28 April 1848 in Aarhus – 10 November 1909 in Berlin) was a Danish composer, pianist, and teacher. Born in Aarhus, Denmark, Schytte studied with Niels Gade and Edmund Neupert, and Liszt. In 1884, he travelled to Germany to study with Franz Liszt. Schytte lived and taught in Vienna between 1886 and 1907 and spent the last two years of his life teaching in Berlin. Originally trained as a pharmacist, Schytte composed a Piano Concerto in C-sharp minor, Op. 28, and a Sonata in B-flat, among numerous other piano works. He also wrote two operas: Hero (25 September 1898 in Copenhagen) and Der Mameluk (22 December 1903 in Vienna). His shorter works are still used today as educational studies for piano students. Incidentally I am reliably informed that his name is pronounced in Danish as Lullfig Shooter, just in case of any confusion!!!

SATB choir unaccompanied - Medium - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8320-E Composed by Ronald Perera. Advanced/Collegiate. Secular, Christmas, Christmas-Sacred. Octavo. 14 pages. Duration 4 minutes, 40 seconds. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8320-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8320-E). This setting of the well known Christmas poem 'I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day' restores some of the language that is commonly left out of most hymnals. This setting restores some of the anguish associated with the Civil War and allows for a tension not often associated with this text. A powerful setting. The title of the original Longfellow poem is 'Christmas Bells.' Charles Appleton Longfellow was the eldest son of the famous poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Fannie Elizabeth Appleton, who lived in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In March of 1863, with the Civil War then in its third year, nineteen year old Charley ran away to Washington to join the Union Army. He presented himself for enlistment to the commander of Battery A of the 1st Massachusetts Artillery, who knew the boy. The officer contacted Henry who reluctantly gave his permission for the boy to enlist. Charley proved himself such an exceptional soldier that he was soon offered a commission as a Second Lieutenant of Artillery. He first saw action at the Battle of Chancellorsville. In June he was briefly invalided home following a bout of typhoid fever and malaria, rejoining his unit in August. Then in November, during the Battle of New Hope Church, Charley was shot through the left shoulder, the bullet just grazing his spine. He narrowly avoided being paralyzed. Henry received word of Charley’s wounding on December 1, and he and a younger son went immediately to Washington, where Charley was in hospital, and brought him home to Cambridge. It was while nursing his son in his slow recovery that Henry Wadsworth Longfellow composed this poem during Christmas, 1863. -Ronald PereraDuration: 4:40.

Published by Jenny Joy Ahimsa Moore (A0.1447011). This piece is for a symphony that would play more challenging music. It is how I view, and harmonize, my dysfuctional/abusive family. The middle section falls apart much like my family truly was, behind closed doors. That is: we lived in the same house, but we did not communicate, we did not listen to each other. Near the end, it becomes much darker, almost funereal, like the truth of what being the youngest child (of a narcissistice mother, with an older narcissistic sister, a dad who chooses to remain ignorant) in my family was truly like. The various parts represent members of my family , sometimes several parts represent one member, or (at times) one part represents several members. Typically, the flute represents my sister, clarinet represents myself (sometimes tuba and trumpet as well). The parts overlap , to show how we did not listen and spoke at each other rather than with each other. This piece shows not just what each person was like on the outside, but also shows the more subtle sides of each member that few people really see or know about (the abuse behind closed doors). This piece is multi faceted, multi layered, like the 4 main members of my family are. The very end points to the Grace of God being the only thing that can heal my family at this point. The flute ends higher than clarinet, in the Hope that Healing can truly occur (not just my family, but with other families that hurt as well).

It is said that he composed over 100 pieces, but only a handful of choir music survived in its entirety today, 3 of which I arranged for flute choir here. These madrigals are delightful, and would be a great addition to your repertoire for any occasion. This arrangement is for 3 alto flutes, 2 basses, and 1 contra bass.

Composed by Gregory Fritze. 21st Century, Contemporary Classical, Neo-Classical, Sacred, Funeral. Piano Reduction, Solo Part. 14 pages. Published by Musica Nova USA
Year of the Trumpeter (El Año del Trompetista) is a piece for solo trumpet and band. Duration is 5 minutes, Grade for band and soloist is Grade 3. This is the piano reduction. It was composed in 2010 as an homage to four friends of mine who played trumpet and passed away in 2009.

Fred Mills played trumpet with the Canadian Brass for 24 years. I met him when I performed with Harvey Phillips and his Tuba Consort when we joined the Canadian Brass in a Christmas concert at Carnegie Hall. I arranged a piccolo descant trumpet part for Fred that he played with the tuba group. We also worked together in Cordoba Argentina in 2006.

Linares Rodriguez was a member of the La Armonica Band of Buñol. After he retired from playing, hebecame the manager for the society’s buildings. When I first lived in Buñol in 1996 we became goodfriends and sometimes took walking excursions together.

Bill Maloof was my first boss as he was Chair of Composition during my first ten years as a facultymember at Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Nedo Pandolfi was considered a great musical force in Rhode Island. His last concert with the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra in 1983 was my first performance with the orchestra. At that time heplayed French Horn but his original instrument was trumpet.

Year of the Trumpeter was premiered March 8, 2014 by Antonio Cambres Rodriguez and the CIM La Armonica, David Fiuza, Conductor in Buñol (Valencia), Spain. The version for trumpet and piano was premiered in Magallon, Spain, July 2017 by Antonio Cambres with the composer playing piano. The band version was recorded by Cambres and the CIM La Armonica, David Fiuza, Conductor. It is on the CD Music for Wind Orchestraon La Armonica Records.

Gregory Fritze is a prize-winning composer and Fulbright Scholar, as well as an active performer and conductor. He recently retired from Berklee College of Music where he was Professor and Chair of Composition and tuba instructor, serving on the faculty from 1979 to 2016. He has written over ninety compositions for orchestra, band, chamber ensembles and soloists. He has won over sixty composition awards both nationally and internationally, including First Prize in the 1st WASBE (World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles) International Composition Contest 2017, First Prize Winner of the Reneé Fisher Composition Prize, First Prize Winner in the Concurso Bienal de Composición de Musica para Banda, Ciudad de Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Spain), Menzione d’Onore (highest award given) of the Mario Bernardo Angelo-Comneno International Music Competition by the Accademia Angelica Costantiniana Arti E Scienze (Italy), First Prize in the 1991 TUBA International Etude Composition Competition and several others. He was Principal Tubist with the Rhode Island Philharmonic for thirty-three years as well as performing with many other ensembles in New England and Florida.

He has been a frequent traveler to Spain since 1993 and has promoted compositions by Spanish composers around the world.
