Choral Choir (SA) - Digital Download SKU: A0.923361 Composed by Jenny Walker. Contemporary. Octavo. 13 pages. J Walker #4285867. Published by J Walker (A0.923361). The concept here is the day in the life of someone bored with their life and worried about their financial situation, yet finding the strength to smile through it all. This version is for an alto lead, with accompanying chords, after the first verse, by the first and second sopranos. The last two verses have all the altos singing the melody. The instrumental accompaniment is for piano, but this would equally suit a guitar. .

Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1465830 By Jeff Kready. By Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin. Arranged by Will Corbin. Broadway,Film/TV,Musical/Show,Ragtime. 19 pages. Will Corbin #1044423. Published by Will Corbin (A0.1465830). This song is from the 1977 Broadway musical Annie (and subsequent movie version), based on the old comic strip Little Orphan Annie. Annie's fellow orphans are listening to host Bert Healy and the Lovely Boylan Sisters (Ronnie, Connie and Bonnie) sing it on the radio program, the Iodent Hour Of Smiles. Yeah, it's that hokey. But a fun piece for two trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba with a bouncy ragtime feel.If you need other instrumentation, I'm happy to help. Contact me at wilcor@aol.com.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.987503 Composed by Nina Quinlivan. Arranged by Nina Quinlivan. Contemporary,Pop,World. Octavo. 10 pages. Nina Quinlivan #15803. Published by Nina Quinlivan (A0.987503). Smile is written in an A, B, C format for an SATB choir. Part A starts with a haunting but beautiful vocal line eventually being enhanced with rich harmonic tones. Part B is the same tempo as Part A but is now in a major key with splendid harmonies which starts to give the song an uplifting feeling. Part C is now faster with each voice getting a chance to shine with gorgeous melodic lines. This song can be sung by a high school choir or an adult choir. A note from the composer; I wrote Smile because I am around young people a lot and there is so much talk about sadness and suicide in today’s culture. I wanted to write a song that gave them hope. Sometimes it just takes a smile from you to turn someone’s day around. It can also work in reverse. Someone may take the time to smile at you to turn your day into a good day. So smile, it’s free.

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1411975 By Shanice. By Jarvis Baker and Narada Michael. Arranged by John Ivor Holland. 20th Century,21st Century,Film/TV,Pop,Singer/Songwriter. 52 pages. John Ivor Holland #994286. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1411975). I Love Your Smile is a song by American singer-songwriter Shanice, released in October 1991 as the lead single from her second studio album, 'Inner Child'. It features a saxophone solo by Branford Marsalis (retained in this arrangement) and, to date, I Love Your Smile is Shanice's best known and most successful hit. It charted well in the US and across Europe and in 1992, Shanice was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. NME ranked I Love Your Smile number 50 in their list of Singles of the Year in December 1992 and it always seems to find new fans from all generations online, where the video has been viewed millions of times. There is a little snippet of Debussy's 'Arabesque No. 1', which is featured in a remix version of the track and the chart ends with another sax solo to bring everything to a peaceful, happy close. This is sure to be a hit with audiences young and old.

Violin Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1018937 Composed by Benjamin Harry Sajo. 20th Century,Contemporary. 5 pages. Benjamin Sajo #6072975. Published by Benjamin Sajo (A0.1018937). Fugue: Wear Pearls and Smile is, on the outset, a fast, rambunctious adventure for many voices playing at the same time. It was conceived as a pairing for the equally vivacious second symphony of Ludwig van Beethoven–his 250th birthday is this year–but can stand on its own as one of my hardest, most challenging works to cook up.This piece is dedicated to those forced to appear positive when internally they’re falling apart. The title is inspired by a quote that’s been with me for a while, Why is it that men can be bastards and women must wear pearls and smile? by Lynn Hecht Schafren, the celebrated American jurist famous for campaigning for gender equity in courts. I’m taking the quote out of its initial context, but the power of that quote, for me, exemplifies how hard it is to maintain a sense of emotional decorum and dignity when you’re authentically a hot mess. And what’s more of a musical hot mess than a fugue? There are two realities to this piece. I’ll quote Dmitri Shostakovich, from his autobiography: The rejoicing is forced, created under threat, […] It’s as if someone were beating you with a stick and saying, ‘Your business is rejoicing, your business is rejoicing,’ and you rise, shaky, and go marching off, muttering ‘Our business is rejoicing, our business is rejoicing.’ On the one hand, it is insincere happiness, cloying perhaps. But the other truth, I’ll quote Oscar Hammerstein II, from The King and I: While shivering in my shoes / I strike a careless pose / And whistle a happy tune / And no one ever knows, / I'm afraid. I forced myself, against all impulses of my current being, to forge happiness. This piece, with its origin being a mental puzzle (fugues are puzzles), it became a construct where I could lift myself up and regain a sense of purpose. Therefore, it is invented–out of a literal need to survive–pure, genuine happiness.Future Performances: If you are interested in performing this work, please e-mail me.ABOUT THE COMPOSER: Benjamin Sajo (b. 1988) is a Canadian composer of contemporary classical music, as well as an educator. Since developing a fiercely independent creative voice upon the completion of his studies at Western (2010) and McGill Universities (2013), he continues to find inspiration from the intersection of mythology, art, and nature upon the contemporary human experience. In 2019, he released his premiere album of original music, The Great War Sextet: Canadian War Poetry with Trombone & Strings , with support from the Ontario Arts Council. Small Ensemble Drums,Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.802683 By Karen Carpenter. By Juice Newton and Otha Young. Arranged by Peet du Toit. Contemporary. Score and parts. 16 pages. Peet du Toit #6410509. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.802683). Sweet, Sweet Smile is a C&W song composed by Otha Young and Juice Newton introduced by the Carpenters on their 1977 album Passage. The track features drummer Ron Tutt who regularly backed Elvis Presley.Sweet, Sweet Smile is one of the few songs recorded by the Carpenters which was chosen by Karen Carpenter rather than Richard Carpenter. Juice Newton and her bandleader Otha Young had written Sweet, Sweet Smile for Newton herself to record but Newton's label Capitol Records was not interested in the song. Newton's manager, who was a friend of the Carpenters, was playing the demo of Sweet, Sweet Smile at his home while Karen Carpenter was visiting. Karen Carpenter liked the song and brought it to the attention of her brother Richard Carpenter who'd recall: I liked it immediately...now there's one that, to me, should have done better than it did referring to the track's January 1978 release as the third single from Passage. Acknowledging the Carpenters' career decline, Richard Carpenter would add: I think if someone else had done ['Sweet, Sweet Smile'] at that time, it would have been a bigger hit. Here's your brass quintet and percussion version for enjoyment.

Bassoon Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1018928 Composed by Benjamin Harry Sajo. 20th Century,Contemporary. Individual part. 5 pages. Benjamin Sajo #6072961. Published by Benjamin Sajo (A0.1018928). Oboe Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1018925 Composed by Benjamin Harry Sajo. 20th Century,Contemporary. Individual part. 4 pages. Benjamin Sajo #6072955. Published by Benjamin Sajo (A0.1018925).
