Christmas Adventures for Oboe and Piano
Oboe, Piano (duet)
Composed by Colin Kirkpatrick. Christian, Contemporary Christian, Christmas. 22 page…
(+)
Composed by Colin Kirkpatrick. Christian, Contemporary Christian, Christmas. 22 pages. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications
Here are three refreshing new modern arrangements of three popular traditional carols “like you ain’t never heard them before”. Intended for the intermediate oboe player and a reasonably competent pianist, they are sure to brighten up your Christmas events whether at home, school, church or recital hall. The pieces could be used during a Christmas service or as stand-alone pieces at an end-of-term presentation. The audio sample includes recordings of all three pieces.<br> <br> The King Rides Out (based on “Good King Wenceslas”) starts conventionally enough but turns into a country-style song and then there’s a three-part Bach-like contrapuntal section, concluding with a wistful coda. Waltz with Holly – or Possibly Ivy (based of course on “The Holly and the Ivy”) turns into a dreamy waltz with long extended phrases and a good vehicle to show the oboe player’s tone quality. The Merry Gentleman go Latin is a lively rumba version of “God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen”.<br> <br> Colin Kirkpatrick studied composition, cello and piano at London’s prestigious Royal College of Music and after graduation followed a career in music education. He was a High School Music Director in London for about fifteen years and later became a Music Education Adviser for local government, with the added responsibility for training teachers and directing the instrumental teaching service.<br> <br> He has been published by Boosey & Hawkes, Novello, Paxton, Schott, Oxford University Press, Chester and Belwin Mills. He holds MA and PhD degrees and his other interests include reading, photography, travel, cooking and wine tasting.

ISBN 9781513459417. 8.75x11.75 inches.<br> <br> This book presents extended solo piano settings of eight Christmas favorites plus a new take on Brahms Lullaby, all with a touch of country keyboard technique. Each intermediate to advanced arrangement is replete with anticipatory grace notes, a bit of western swing harmony and rhythm in the classic country style popularized by Floyd Cramer. Author/arranger Devan Archer has added his own brand of challenging counterpoint. The Nashville Sound has long been a presence in gospel, pop and rock music but appears here in a Christmas repertoire, perhaps for the first time. Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1320814 Composed by William Grosvenor Neil. 20th Century,Classical. Score. 41 pages. TheComposerStudio.Com, LLC #909259. Published by TheComposerStudio.Com, LLC (A0.1320814). Movement I. Light by the Beauty of MusicThis movement opens with a driving energy that does not diminish until the final passages.  The opening theme continues to cycle over accenting sonorities in counterpoint with a 2nd theme that spins forth in perpetual motion.  From here emerges a pair of folk themes in tandem. I quote the Romanian folk song:  On the Freedom Plains along with a counter theme that I composed in a minor mode. I want to thank my Moldovian friend, Natalia Rojcovscaia-Tumaha for inspiring the inclusion of this quote in this movement. This basic cry for freedom among people that have identified with a country where generations have lived and died was the sentiment that I wanted to capture in this music. The movement ends with an unresolved flourish that slowly dies away suggesting the mysterious uncertain nature of music. Movement II. DeliquesceThe second movement is a simple song-like narrative that speaks in short rhythmic open phrases. The music progression in variation form.  All the while, a spinning thread of notes orbits this narrative, eventually cascading into a perpetual motif that ends suspended in space.Movement III.  Light Upon WaterThe third movement continues the perpetual motion of the second movement and transforms into a running tapestry of harmonic statements that build to a euphoric choral declaration.  After a reflective, improvisatory middle section, the cascading perpetual motion of the opening returns. The conclusion of the movement is signaled by what I call a crossing cadence:  the theme in full chordal orchestration is accelerando in the right hand and is retrograde, ritardando in the left hand.  Finally, a short coda finishes the sonata.  © 2022 William Grosvenor Neil  williamneil.net   thecomposerstudio.com  support: thecomposerstudio@gmail.com.

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1349730 Composed by Justus Parrotta (b. 1988). 21st Century,Chamber,Classical,Contemporary. Score. 36 pages. Cherrywood Editions #934502. Published by Cherrywood Editions (A0.1349730). Nightsongs II consists of a series of sketches for voice and piano illustrating nighttime scenes. Odd-numbered movements focus on atmospheric textures, while even-numbered movements dwell on stars and galaxies. Movement I, Vocalise I, is inspired by street lights casting a copper hue against a dark cobalt sky. Movement II, Choose Something Like a Star, shifts between subdued and bright registers of the voice and piano to illustrate the contrast of the stars in the night sky. Movement III, Intermezzo, drives the listener to a country road on a cloudy night with pine trees on either side while the high beams illuminate the path. Frequent 16th notes in this movement create a motor-like motion. Compound meter with quick 16th notes in Movement IV, Returning, imparts a buoyant character that floats through different galaxies along with frequent use of Lydian and Myxolydian Modes and the Acoustic Scale. Movement V, Vocalise II, paints a picture of a hilly grass field and a parking lot on a cloudy and rainy night, surrounded by lights with a muffled glow.

DvoÅ™ák: Largo from the New World Symphony for Trombone & Piano

Piano,Trombone - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549436 Composed by AntonÃn Dvořák. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Instructional,Romantic Period,Sacred,Standards. Score and part. 12 pages. Jmsgu3 #3494231. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549436). Score: 7 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 3 pages. Duration: 4:25 Not difficult, but requires sensitivity & dynamic control. Suitable for recitals, church meditations, or school programs. Dvořák Background AntonÃn Dvořák (1841 –1904) was, of course, a composer from Czechoslovakia. As a matter of fact, he was among the first Bohemian composers to attain universal recognition. It is important to realize that the late Romantic Nationalist period featured composers who used traditional and folk elements to portray the character of their nation. In particular, we see this in the music of Grieg (Norway), Finland (Sibelius), and Smetana (Bohemia).  Dvořák relied markedly on rhythms and other characteristics of Moravian and Bohemian folk music. Ascent to Fame Dvořák was truly a child musical prodigy on the violin. The premiere performances of his compositions notably occurred in 1872 and 1873. He submitted his First Symphony in particular to a German competition, but it failed to win. Consequently, in 1874 he presented two more symphonies to the Austrian State Prize for Composition. Johannes Brahms was the principal of the jury and was accordingly very impressed. They forthwith awarded the prize to Dvořák in 1874, 1876, and 1877. At this point, Brahms thereupon endorsed Dvořák to the publisher Simrock. Later, the publisher commissioned Dvořák to compose the Slavonic Dances, Op. 46. These became popular overnight and, as a result, Dvořák's worldwide status was launched. International Status Dvořák visited England upon invitation nine times. On each visit, he frequently conducted performances of his own compositions. He conducted concerts of his music, especially in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Eventually, the Prague Conservatory in fact appointed Dvořák as a professor. There, to be sure, he wrote his famous Dumky Trio. United States Consequently, the National Conservatory of Music of America appointed him as director in 1892. As a result, Dvořák composed his two most famous symphonic works: the Symphony No. 9 (From the New World), which spread his name universally, and his Concerto for Cello and Orchestra, one of the most famous of all cello works. Moreover, he wrote his most celebrated American String Quartet during this time. At the same time, because of his growing recognition in Europe and his homesickness for his own country, he left to return to Bohemia in 1895. Â

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.792254 Composed by Bax, Arnold. Arranged by Sauer, Ralph. 20th Century,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score. 24 pages. Gordon Cherry #4764757. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792254). Sir Arnold Bax composed in a style that blended Romantic, Impressionist and Celtic flavors together in a brilliant way. Mr. Sauer has taken these two works originally for Piano and brilliantly transcribed them for Trombone & Piano. The Country Tune begins with a beautiful melody which turns into a jaunty dance. The Burlesque is also dance-like, but mixes 3/4 and 4/4 time in a most inovative way. These works are light, airy & very pleasant to perform and listen to.

They could be used during a Christmas service or asstand-alone pieces at an end-of-term presentation. The audio sample includes recordingsof all three pieces.<br> <br> The King Rides Out(based on “Good King Wenceslas”) starts conventionally enough but turns into acountry-style song and then there’s a three-part Bach-like contrapuntal section, concluding with a wistful coda before the music returns to the joyful countrystyle. Waltz with Holly – or Possibly Ivy (based of course on “The Hollyand the Ivy”) turns into a dreamy waltz with long extended phrases and a goodvehicle to show the cellists tone quality. The Merry Gentleman go Latinis a lively rumba version of “God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen”.<br> <br> ColinKirkpatrick studied composition, cello and piano at London’s prestigious RoyalCollege of Music and after graduation followed a career in music education. "Alberti" Country Blues Etude

Instrumental Solo,Piano and Keyboard - Level 5 - Interactive Download SKU: A0.1159687 By Peter Saltzman. By Peter Saltzman. This edition: Interactive Download. Blues,Classical,Country,Jazz. Individual part. 3 pages. Duration 72. Salt Muse, Inc #33mOD8P51NnZcVv5cIP3iX. Published by Salt Muse, Inc (A0.1159687). Key: C major.Alberti refers to the so-called Alberti bass common in 18th-century keyboard music: think Mozart, Haydn, and early Beethoven. Proving the basic idea still works for modern piano composition, I've adapted it here in a country blues format. Befitting the more contemporary harmonic style, the V7 chord here is a minor 7th, not dominant. The difficulty in this piece starts at measure 10, where a contrapuntal voice jumps in. But it's short—and fun to play. A good showpiece for the advanced intermediate pianist.
