Cello Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.900320 By Bob Dylan. By Bob Dylan. Arranged by Liz Lee - Cellomoji. Pop,R & B. Individual part. 3 pages. Cellomoji #5313205. Published by Cellomoji (A0.900320). Here is an arrangement of Adele's beautiful version of this song. This edition is written with the idea to practice some tenor clef reading as well. If you are not comfortable in this upper range take a search for my version that is lower and all written in bass clef. You should be comfortable playing the B flat major 2 octave scale to be able to play this edition. Written in the key of her recording I encourage you to play alongside her recording and have fun with this one! This is a beautiful and popular song so I hope that you will give this a try on the cello!Cellomoji Website: http://eepurl.com/cOx6H9Cellomoji Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCS8SDY7dyqUR4P3t3qRPISgCellomoji Instagram: www.instagram.com/cellomoji

Guitar - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.808754 By Counting Crows. By Adam F. Duritz, Dan Vickrey, David Bryson, David Immergluck, and Matthew Malley. Arranged by B. McCormick. Pop. Guitar Tab. 6 pages. B. McCormick #3520561. Published by B. McCormick (A0.808754). This Sheet Music of this Counting Crow's Classic, Accidentally in Love gives you everything you need to learn this song from start to finish. Designed to strictly follow the songs structure, hence the amount of pages, it gives all the parts in the order they should come if you follow the repeats properly. This song can be found on the Shrek Sound track along with many other great tracks. The chords used in this song are fairly simple. The rhythm and timing and following of the sheet music are where the dificulty in this piece lie. The strum pattern is set out in the initial bars, if a new strum pattern comes in it is indicated. I would work on the main strum pattern and then work on the rhythm in the chorus bars. You may want to try different effects and distortion to get the sound you want, especially for the solo. All in all this piece is for people who have a been playing for a while and have a strong sense of rhythm al though it could be learned by anyone although it would take newer players longer to grasp the changing rhythms. Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.896159 Composed by Traditional English Carol. Arranged by Antony Cull. Christian,Christmas,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Guitar Tab. 2 pages. Antony Cull #3382729. Published by Antony Cull (A0.896159). 'I Saw Three Ships (Come Sailing In)' arrangement for solo guitar by Antony Cull.IntroductionThis arrangement is aimed at intermediate level guitarists with a good control of natural harmonics and basic fingerstyle. The whole piece has the harmonic structure written in the chords above, which can be strummed by another player to turn the piece into a duet. Alternatively you can use these chords to accompany a singer and add the solo guitar arrangement as a introduction.Performance NotesThe first section outlines the basic harmony, often omitting notes from the chords above, to outline the melody. To keep each section distinct, keep the pace of this section slow and expressive. The next section has a celtic inspired feel, with the constant quavers throughout to drive the piece forward. Note the increase in tempo, but adjust to a comfortable speed for your ability as you are mostly aiming to play faster then the introduction. Practice this section slowly at first, taking time to choose the most comfortable finger position. Once you have the fingering locked in, work on making the melody pop out from the over all picking pattern, relax the attack on the thumb to help this. The third section uses natural harmonics to play the melody. To play a natural harmonic place you fretting finger lightly on the string above the stated fret. As you pick the string, remove your you finger and you should get a bell like tome that sounds a different pitch to the open string. Let each string ring out after each harmonic is played over the subsequent notes until another note is played on that string. In bar 19 and 23 there is a single fretted note so be prepared to switch technique on a dime. This will create a rich harp like feel to the piece that will give a really christmassy feel. The only big change in the coda is a gentle ritardando and an arppegiated harmonic across three strings. Gently place a finger across the three strings and role them off the as they are picked. Final ThoughtsI am a really big fan of tight arrangements and love constructing arrangements for my students. One of my greatest challenges is creating performance pieces for guitarists that don't sing. This is especially ponient during the holidays when everyone wants to hear all the classics. This piece is extremely musical and the harmonics are a real crowd pleaser. Cello Solo - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1095693 Composed by Julie Munkholm …

Cello Solo - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1095693 Composed by Julie Munkholm Bruun. Blues,Classical,Rock. Individual part. 41 pages. Julie Munkholm Bruun #699675. Published by Julie Munkholm Bruun (A0.1095693). There's a new cello lesson book on the market! In this book I've turned the normal way of learning to play the cello upside down. With a little bit of creativity, and a lot of knowledge and understanding about how the instrument works - and how students learn - I have created this book. I hope you will love it just as much as I do, and that it will help you build a good foundation for your cello playing. FROM THE INTRODUCTION: This lesson book was created with a new perspective in mind. My hope is, that this way of learning, will make it easier to learn to play the cello. I have chosen to include a few chapters in the beginning of the book, where you will play on open strings. That will help you establish a good, basic understanding for how the cello should sound. It will also give you the opportunity to build up strength in the left hand slowly – and concentrate on getting a good, basic bowing technique. I have included small chapters with music theory, that I find important in order to understand how the instrument works. The cello doesn't have any keys or frets to help you play in tune, so knowing a few tips and tricks will help you tremendously. As opposed to most cello lesson books, the first finger you will learn to use here is the 4th finger. The 4th finger is your little finger and usually the least strong finger of them all. Starting with 4th finger has 2 very important advantages: • When you use the 4th finger – especially in the beginning – you will use the other 3 fingers to help push the string down into the fingerboard. That will help you establish a good, healthy hand position for the left hand. And when you start with 4th finger, using the other 3 fingers will feel so easy! • 4th finger in the first position is the same note (an octave higher) as the open string below. It gives you the opportunity to use the open string to know if you play in tune. Once you have gone through this book you should be able to play with the bow, by plucking the strings (pizzicato) and use 1st, 3rd and 4th finger on the left hand. That means that you should be able to play songs in G Major and D Major in one octave. The last few chapters include duets for two cellos. I have chosen to include the duets to make it more fun to play and to start developing the students ability play chamber music. It is wonderful to be able to play an instrument, and playing with other people adds an extra dimension to that. Love, live, play! Julie.

The Third Book of Songs for Flute Quartet

Flute Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Flute - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.559766

Flute Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Flute - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.559766 Composed by John Dowland. Arranged by Lisa Ochoco. Renaissance. 66 pages. Lisa L Ochoco #4726485. Published by Lisa L Ochoco (A0.559766). John Dowland (1562 – 1626) was a lutenist and singer in the Renaissance Period. The lute was a stringed instrument, most closely related to our guitar. He wrote quite a lot of music that is still played and sung by guitarists and singers today. Although his music was written for stringed instruments in general, many arrangers have adapted his works for wind instruments. This collection of 20 songs from his Third Book of Songs is arranged for flute quartet – 4 C flutes or 3 C flutes and alto. Most of these songs are rather short, so it is recommended that each song is played in its entirety at least twice. I arranged these songs so that the 1st flute always has the melody. To practice fairness in all parts, the parts should be rotated, to give each musician a chance to play the melody. Song list: 1. Farewell Too Fair 2. Time Stands Still 3. Behold a Wonder Here 4. Daphne Was Not so Chaste 5. Me, Me, and None but Me 6. When Phoebus First did Daphne Love 7. Say Love if Ever Thou Didst Find 8. Flow Not so Fast Ye Fountains 9. What if I Never Speed? 10. Love Stood Amaz’d 11. Lend Your Ears to My Sorrow 12. By a Fountain Where I Lay 13. O What Hath Overwrought 14. Farewell Unkind 15. Weep You no More, Sad Fountains 16. Fie on This Feigning 17. I Must Complain 18. It was a Time When Silly Bees 19. The Lowest Trees Have Tops 20. What Poor Astronomers are They If each song is played twice in its entirety, you will have almost an hour's worth of music. If you love Renaissance music, this will be a great addition to your repertoire!

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1323881 By Michael Buble. By Haven Gillespie and John Frederick Coots. Arranged by Thomas Gunther. Blues,Christmas,Jazz. Score. 5 pages. Thomas Gunther Music Productions #912057. Published by Thomas Gunther Music Productions (A0.1323881). Solo Piano Arrangement By Thomas GuntherSanta Claus Is Coming To Town is another one of my favorite Christmas songs. For some reason I love playing it in a bluesy style, with some jazz voicings. The bridge is more in stride piano style.About The ArrangementThe arrangement includes different stylistic elements found in more traditional popular piano music. It definitely has a bluesy vibe, but also shows elements of jazz and stride piano. When it comes to the form I extended it by adding an intro that comes back in-between sections in form of an interlude. There is also an outro. About The Sheet MusicThe sheet music is basically a transcription of my recording. It contains jazz chord symbols and plentiful of articulations as well as some dynamic markings. My Arranging WorkflowI have different approaches for creating solo piano arrangements of songs. The one I took here is as follows. First I come up with different ideas, try them out, and after a while settle on those I like best. Once I practiced and internalized those ideas I press record and hope for the best. Before the final version is done, I record myself many times over. This gives me the opportunity to improve upon each version until I have one that I feel comfortable with.Recommendations For Learning The SongI recommend that you first listen to my performance while reading along in the sheet music. This way you get a better understanding about the phrasing and the rhythmic feel. You may want to spend a little time just vamping a few bars to get into the groove. When that feels good move on to different sections. The bridge is different in feel because it is based on stride piano rather than blues. Stride piano features big jumps in the left hand and big intervals between the outer notes (up to a 10th). Should you have difficulty in playing those big intervals (smaller hands will make this hard) you may roll the notes and use the sustain pedal. Is This Arrangement For You?This solo piano arrangement is for every pianist who would like to try playing Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town in a more bluesy-jazzy style. Dependent on what your specialty is musically speaking, you made benefit from it in different ways. Here are some examples.Classical PianistsIf you are a classical pianist who rarely listens to jazz and blues music, this arrangement might be a great way to dip your feed into more contemporary genres and styles like blues and jazz. This said, it might be quite challenging. Not from a technical point of view, but from a musical point of view. For example, swung eighth notes and accents and phrasing in blues and jazz are somewhat contrary to classical music. It's gonna be a great learning experience for sure!Jazz PianistsShould you be a jazz musician or blues musician, you may not necessarily want to play the arrangement as written note for note. Instead, you might just fall in love with some of my ideas and create your own arrangement based on those. This goes especially for the solo section. You can play my solo or use it as inspiration for your own solo. Of course experiences blues and jazz musicians will prefer to make up their own solo.I truly hope you have fun playing this arrangement! Yes.

Tenor Voice,Vocal Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533282 Composed by Gregory Sullivan Isaacs. Contemporary,Holiday,Love. 21 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #2331251. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533282). Whitman only published one book – Leaves of Grass – but it was always a work in progress. He added poems and revised others for each succeeding edition. Thus, the first edition (1819) was a small book with only 12 poems and the last, often refered to as the Deathbed Edition (1892), contained over 400. Some of these he wrote in “clusters†of related poems. Such is the case with the Calamus cluster. The title was chosen to alert the reader that these were poems about what he called “the love of comrades,†“manly love†or with the code word, “adhesiveness.†The concept of homosexuality, as we know it today, was very different in Whitman’s time, but violently socially taboo. Acorus calamus is a reed-like species of marsh grass. In Poetry and Prose, Whitman wrote that it s a … very large and aromatic grass, or root, spears three feet high—often called 'sweet flag'—grows all over the Northern and Middle States.†The phallic plant has always been a symbol of love and associated with the Greek myth of Kalamos, son of the river god who loved the youth Karpos. When Karpos died in a swimming accident, Kalamos transformed himself into a reed so he could always be near the spot where his beloved died, and the rustling of the reeds in the winds sounds like moans of mourning. The Calamus cluster, 39 poems in all, recount the story of a manly love found and lost from the perspective of some time later. They are bittersweet memories. I chose four poems for my own cluster. They represent the four stages of such a relationship: initial attraction, first coy interactions, full-blossomed love, and the bitterness of it’s ending. It is possible that these events actually happened or that they all occurred in the poets mind without ever revealing his thoughts to the intended. Some musical devices, such as the rustling of the leaves in the third song and the constant use of seconds as two people who are close but not yet together in the second one, are obvious. But, other than some indications of tempo, I hesitate to give out remarks about how to perform the songs, or even metronome markings, that might give the singer a preconceived notion. This situation has happened to everyone. So, I say to the singer: revive the memories of a similar event in your life: a particularly heartbreaking one is best. Bring the telling of that memory to the vivid present, and tell us that story as if it ending some time ago but the hurt remains strong, If, by some chance, the singer has not had this experience, he should wait to sing this cycle until he has. The composer

Clarinet,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.836709 Composed by Brian Joyce. Contemporary. Score and part. 27 pages. Brian Joyce #3074129. Published by Brian Joyce (A0.836709). A piece shrouded in mystery and intrigue. For myself, I mean: I don’t even know what the title means, nor why this particular piece should wear it. The music and the title came as a package deal, falling on me out of the blue one day. It wasn’t on my to-do list, nor was I looking for extra work. But perhaps that’s the answer: the piece itself is the Agent, breaking into my nicely ordered studio and disrupting things for the next few months. I’ll have to think about this some more. But I digress. Whatever its meaning or provenance, it’s an odd little sonatina. For instance, at its heart the second movement is a traditional scherzo and trio, but it is as misshapen as anything H. P. Lovecraft himself might have envisioned. Even I am not sure where the beginnings and endings of the sections are without a score in hand. Mystery upon mystery. Another example: as I began to work on the third movement, I wasn’t sure if it would be a simple binary or ternary form, a rondo or a sonata-allegro. I never did find out, to be honest. All I know is that, to my ears, it sounds like what might have resulted if I had been asked to write the theme to The Simpsons. The audio sample will give you some idea of what I mean.More questions than answers.Performance time is a little under 14 minutes.

Composed by Traditional Scottish. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Christian, Repertoire, Technique Training, Easter, Lent. Score, Set of Parts. 17 pages. Published by jmsgu3
The Water Is Wide (O Waly Waly)<br> Duration: 5:24<br> Score: 10 pg. 121 ms., MM quarter = 94, final verse MM quarter = 80, common time<br> Solo part: 3 pg.<br> Piano part: 4 pg.<br> <br> A thought-provoking arrangement of a Traditional Scottish Folksong. Probably most widely known as "The Water Is Wide,"<br> it is also well known by it's more ancient title: "O Waly Waly." The tune is also known as " When I Survey the Wondrous Cross," and "The Gift of Love."<br> This is an original arrangement from the ground up.<br> <br> Programming:<br> If you are looking for something with new contrapuntal and harmonic adventures for a Lenten prelude or a meditation during Holy Week, this will fit the bill.<br> It could also work well in a recital setting because it fits well on the instrument, and provides a chance to show off long, sensitive musical phrases.<br> Some of the figures in the descant verse are a wee-bit more advanced so, this is for intermediate players rather than beginners.<br> <br> Keep in mind these performance ideas:<br> 1. It's a simple tune that needs to unfold in the due course of time, so don't rush it. A slight ritardando at the end of each verse may help if you want to further delineate the verses.<br> 2. There is a lot of interesting counterpoint here, so be prepared to give-and-take on the dynamics more than what I have indicated.<br> 3. The final verse is much slower and more mysterious, and the dynamics are crucial - the quieter the better. Piano - the last chord: take your time on the roll, make it nice and slow.<br> <br> Synopsis of the arrangement:<br> verse 1: Simple quiet duet with the melody in the solo instrument.<br> verse 2: Melody in the solo instrument accompanied by a 2-part canon in the piano.<br> verse 3: Melody in the piano in 4-part harmony.<br> verse 4: 3-part canon on the melody (with a free accompaniment voice).<br> verse 5: 2-part canon with a free accompaniment in the solo part<br> verse 6: Melody in octaves with free bass in octaves; descant in the solo part - loudest verse.<br> verse 7: Very quiet ending verse - Modulates down a fourth, melody in the solo part accompanied by simple quartal/quintal<br> piano clusters over bass chords that suggest submerged church bells.<br> <br> For better insight into the performance of this music: express the emotion indicated by the lyrics:<br> <br> The Water Is Wide:<br> The water is wide, I cannot get over<br> Neither have I wings to fly<br> Give me a boat that can carry two<br> And both shall row, my love and I<br> A ship there is and she sails the sea<br> She's loaded deep as deep can be<br> But not so deep as the love I'm in<br> I know not if I sink or swim<br> I leaned my back against an oak<br> Thinking it was a trusty tree<br> But first it bent and then it broke<br> So did my love prove false to me<br> I reached my finger into some soft bush<br> Thinking the fairest flower to find<br> I pricked my finger to the bone<br> And left the fairest flower behind<br> Oh love be handsome and love be kind<br> Gay as a jewel when first it is new<br> But love grows old and waxes cold<br> And fades away like the morning dew<br> Must I go bound while you go free<br> Must I love a man who doesn't love me<br> Must I be born with so little art<br> As to love a man who'll break my heart<br> When cockle shells turn silver bells<br> Then will my love come back to me<br> When roses bloom in winter's gloom<br> Then will my love return to me<br> <br> The lyrics for "Waly, Waly, Gin Love Be Bonny" from Ramsay's Tea Table Miscellany (1724).<br> <br> O Waly, waly (a lament – "woe is me") up the bank,<br> And waly, waly doun the brae (hill),<br> And waly, waly, yon burn-side (riverside),<br> Where I and my love wont to gae.<br> I lean'd my back into an aik (oak),<br> I thocht it was a trusty tree;<br> But first it bow'd, and syne (soon) it brak (broke),<br> Sae my true love did lightly me.<br> <br> O waly, waly, but love be bonnie (beautiful),<br> A little time while it is new,<br> But when 'tis auld (old), it waxeth cauld (cold),<br> And fades away like the morning dew.<br> O wherefore should I busk my heid (adorn my head)?<br> Or wherefore should I kame (comb) my hair?<br> For my true love has me forsook,<br> And says he'll never love me mair (more).<br> <br> Now Arthur Seat shall be my bed,<br> The sheets shall ne'er be fyl'd by me,<br> Saint Anton's well shall be my drink,<br> Since my true love has forsaken me.<br> Martinmas wind, when wilt thou blaw (blow),<br> And shake the green leaves off the tree?<br> O gentle death, when wilt thou come?<br> For of my life I am weary.<br> <br> 'Tis not the frost, that freezes fell,<br> Nor blawing snaws (snow) inclemency,<br> 'Tis not sic cauld (such cold) that makes me cry,<br> But my love's heart grown cauld to me.<br> When we cam in by Glasgow town,<br> We were a comely sight to see;<br> My love was clad in the black velvet,<br> And I my sell in cramasie (crimson).<br> <br> But had I wist (known), before I kiss'd,<br> That love had been sae ill to win,<br> I'd lock my heart in a case of gold,<br> And pin'd it with a silver pin.<br> Oh, oh! if my young babe were born,<br> And set upon the nurse's knee,<br> And I my sell were dead and gane,<br> For a maid again I'll never be.[4]<br> (Lyrics courtesy of Wikipedia)<br> <br> <br> For more information, please feel free to contact me at: jmsgu3 "at" gmail.com<br> James M. Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.500706 By Taylor Swift. By Brendon Urie, Joel Little, and Taylor Swift. Arranged by G. M. Morley. A Cappella,Pop. Octavo. 13 pages. G. M. Morley #5296523. Published by G. M. Morley (A0.500706). This four part a cappella arrangement of Taylor Swift and Brendon Urie's song, Me! from Swift's 2019 album, Lover, requires a bit of vocal acrobatics. If your singers can handle octave leaps then this version of the song should be a welcome addition to the repertoire for weddings and pop or community choir performances.Given Swift and Urie’s stance on gender equality I have included some suggestions for alternative lyrics in places where either a gender neutral term or the opposite gender might be preferable to the one in the original lyrics depending on the social occasion the song is being performed in.If you would like to contact me about this arrangement or would like to request something specific, please message me via my page: https://www.facebook.com/GMMorleyMusic/ If you perform this piece, I'd love to hear from you.

Christian,Easter,Praise & Worship,Religious,Sacred. 1 pages. Stuart Brown Music #782621. Published by Stuart Brown Music (A0.1182872). The accompanying score and a choral bundle are also available from this website. The composer writes: 'On That Cross' is a powerful reflection on the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. I came up with the lyrics at around 3am in the morning of 3rd December 2014 sitting at a desk in room 703 of the De Syloia Hotel in Hanoi, Vietnam. Often I find that my periods of working abroad give me the space to think of things in new ways. This song is a good example of that. One look at the first page of the score of 'On That Cross' is all you need to realize that this is not a case of a choir singing with a piano accompaniment. I put the piano part above the choir in order to dispel that misconception. So if it's not that, what is it? I wanted to demonstrate that it is possible to approach a subject from two completely different points of view, without either point of view being compromised by the other, and yet the result can nevertheless be a beautiful synergy. That is what the pianist and the choir are doing here. Each is meditating upon the cross of Christ, but from two totally unrelated points of view and yet somehow combining in a way that is almost hypnotically beautifully. There is little obvious relationship between the choir's and the piano's music; and yet each is reconciled to the other ... and there's a very good reason why I wanted the music to speak of such reconciliation. In late 2014 people in Iraq were being beheaded, crucified and generally killed in the most brutal and sadistic manner possible. Their only ‘crime’ was to dare to call themselves Christians. You can say what you like but in my book nobody has the right to tell anybody else what they should believe, much less murder them on religious grounds. The thing that incensed me almost to the point of incandescence was that the perpetrators of this unspeakable evil dared to justify their actions by claiming that they were acting on behalf of their god. So in such frame of mind I started to write the lyrics to 'On That Cross'.The first words that came into my mind were “Oh men who dare to call on gods to justify your hatred – of this be sure …†and I wanted to follow that with threats of eternal damnation, torture in hellfire and so on. Except that the words that flowed out of my fingers onto my computer screen were not like that at all. “Of this be sure – I love you still, my cross your salvation from all the sin of man.â€It doesn’t get much more powerful than that. I may be incapable of loving the people of ISIS, ISIL, DAESH or whatever one calls them, but my God isn’t. He created them, he sent his Son to die for them … and he is even now ready to save them, as he is you and me. That’s grace.A small group of us sang this at a Good Friday united service in 2016. We sang it unannounced, at the end of the service, when one would have expected people to start getting up from their seats and leaving the church. Nobody did. Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1311836 Composed by John Barry. Arranged by Derek Hasted. Film/TV. 21 pages. Derek Hasted #900771. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.1311836). JOHN DUNBAR'S THEME (Dances With Wolves) - 4 GUITARS/LARGE ENSEMBLEPrimarily for Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This theme, from the film 'Dances With Wolves' is widely admired as a charming and powerful melody. It will make a wonderful item for a concert. My arrangement is based on track 4 of the official Soundtrack CD. It’s very slow, and lasts just over three and a half minutes - be sure not to rush this lovely piece and its haunting descant in the final Verse. The key is just a semitone lower than the original, and two guitars are tuned to 6=D to give a rich deep bass that maximises the sustain that guitars can achieve.Guitar 1 plays the part of the high descant in the original.Guitar 2 is the tune, and if you have more than 4 players, there is an optional divisi part (Guitar 2a) that helps reinforce the beautiful melody.Guitar 3 is arpeggio based, to help the sustain and to ease the counting of the beats.Guitar 4 has thick chords which should be rolled (but not strummed) to add to the majesty of the music.I hope you enjoy playing this piece! This is one of a large and growing range of accessible ensembles from experienced arranger Derek Hasted, and is supplied as full score and parts. Derek's website at www.derek-hasted.co.uk/smp lists all his arrangements by title and by number of instruments, with links to soundclips and sample score.

20 Classical Piano Pieces for Elementary Piano Students (with all piano fingering)

Composed by Various. Arranged by Scott Camp. Classical Period, Etudes and Exercises, Repertoire, Technique Training, Recital. 75 pages. Published by Scott Camp
This is the collection of classical piano repertoire I created for work with my own students, most of whom were not primarily interested in "classical" music. <br> <br> In my experience, every elementary piano student should be given the opportunity to successfully play:<br> Spinning Song (even if you leave out the middle section at first)<br> Minuet in G (page one)<br> Fur Elise (page one)<br> <br> Eventually, they should experience (if not master--that's ultimately up to them) each piece in this collection. <br> <br> All hand positions and finger numbers are presented so that students can spend their time preparing successfully--not "figuring out" with endless frustration and incorrect solutions. <br> <br> "Minuet in G" from the Bach notebook is a great example. Let's consider just the first page. Many (most) elementary students would love to play this piece. The RH by itself is easy. The LH is also "not difficult", but it's not self-evident, either. The notes are easy enough, and the fingering choices seem inconsequential. You could play it with several different fingering solutions.<br> <br> Hands Together: Humans can pay attention to only one thing at a time: in this case, the RH or the LH. Whichever hand is receiving the attention, the other must be on "automatic pilot". You can switch focus rapidly to give the appearance that you are paying attention to two things equally, but that is not what is happening. <br> <br> So... both hands need to be rehearsed (better word than "practiced") until the correct execution is the "default" behavior. <br> <br> If that (sufficient correct repetetition) has not happened, then consistent successful performance with both hands is never achieved. Students complain that they wish they could be more "consistent". They don't have a chance, sadly. <br> <br> "Practice Makes... "<br> <br> If you said "Perfect" then you've fallen into a sinister trap. <br> <br> "Practice makes Permanent." When a student actually does what has been assigned, in many cases that is the beginning of the end of their piano career. <br> <br> Here's the process in general:<br> Students "write in their own fingering" and then, and then practice (repeat) their incorrect solutions. They are unable to perform the desired piece consistently and don't know why. How long can a student tolerate this ineffective approach?<br> <br> That's something for us professionals to consider.<br> <br> <br> Perfect for introducing classical repertoire (similar to Suzuki, Bastien Piano Literature, etc). The advantage here is that all fingering is included so that students play more!<br> <br> Contents<br> <br> Minuet in G from the Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach<br> Minuet in G from the Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach<br> Minuet in G minor from the Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach<br> Musette in D from the Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach<br> Minuet in F Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart<br> Ecossaise in G Ludwig van Beethoven<br> Sonatina in G Ludwig van Beethoven<br> I Allegretto<br> II Romanze<br> Sonatina (In the Antique Style) Op. 157, No. 4 Fritz Spindler<br> I Allegro <br> The Wild Horseman, Op. 68, No. 8 Robert Schumann<br> Fur Elise (Famous Page 1) Ludwig van Beethoven<br> Spinning Song, Op. 14, No. 4 Albert Elmenreich<br> Arabesque, Op. 100, No. 2 Friedrich Burgmüller<br> Ballade, Op. 100, No. 15 Friedrich Burgmüller<br> Solfeggietto Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach<br> Toccatina, Op. 27, No. 12 Dmitri Kabalevsky<br> Fur Elise (Complete) Ludwig van Beethoven<br> Sonatina, Op. 55, No. 1 Friedrich Kuhlau<br> I Allegro <br> Sonatina, Op. 36, No. 3 Muzio Clementi<br> I Spiritoso <br> La Vélocité, Op. 109, No. 10 Friedrich Burgmüller<br> <br> <br> These are the documents that I have used to introduce classical music to my piano students. No note is presented without its corresponding proper fundamental technique (fingering). In other words, there is no such thing as a note separate from its hand position and fingering. <br> <br> The hand position notation is used to better communicate what exactly is being demanded of the student. Students’ repertoire is no longer limited by their music staff reading ability. Nor do they suffer from their own painful inability to solve technical issues. This approach restores “playing music on the piano” to primacy and supports “helping a student play music on the piano” as the central activity of the piano lesson. <br> <br> Weak students are able to play real (not simplified) music and not feel penalized. Strong students complete their preparation even more efficiently. In all cases, spending less time on fingering means more time for higher levels of musicianship: coordination, pedaling, physical technique, control, tone, dynamics, tempo, rhythm, articulation, phrasing, expression, emotion, drama, compositional analysis, and historical context.<br> <br> Good luck!<br> Scott Camp<br> scottcampislandpiano@gmail.com
