This piece is designed to improve the player's ability to distinguish, through playing, voices amongst chords and accompaniment. While playing this piece, keep in mind that some melodic lines have been marked out through the use of slurs. Throughout the block chord sections it is up to the player to choose what voices, if any, take melodic priority.

Composed by Giya Kancheli (1935-). Arranged by Andrei Pushkarev. Contemporary Classical, Movies. Score. 65 pages. Published by KANCHELIMUSIC
I am very happy to share this book with you: thirty-three miniatures by the great Georgian composer Giya Kancheli based on his music for theater and cinema. Originally, the miniatures were written for piano; I have transcribed them for solo vibraphone. I discovered Giya?s music as a member of Kremerata Baltica, the chamber orchestra spearheaded by the world-renowned violinist Gidon Kremer, with whom I have been collaborating for more than twenty years. Not only did I have the opportunity to perform the music of the Maestro - I was lucky to get to him know him well. Our first artistic encounter took place at Gidon Kremer?s Lockenhaus Chamber Music Festival in Austria, where Giya Kancheli had been a frequent composer-in-residence. He was a man of rare human warmth, sincerity, charm, passion and positive aura, with a wonderful sense of humor. At the same time it would be difficult to find a person more meticulous and demanding regarding the performance of his compositions, where every little detail matters. Giya said: "Whether my music is played matters less than the way it is played". When you open this book, you'll understand better what Maestro meant. His music is incrementally sensitive, every stroke, every change of harmony, even every rest carries its own expressive significance, its own mood, its own energy. A thoughtful approach to timing becomes the magic key to the interpretation of Kancheli?s works - in every period, in every measure and in every beat. The unique timbres and color capacities of the vibraphone, I am absolutely convinced, allow the performer and listener to immerse themselves in the majestic microcosm of extremely subtle, tender, and sublimely inspiring imagery that is the musical world of Giya Kancheli. I?m sure you will enjoy it! Andrei Pushkarev

Published by William Smith (A0.1216474). Water is an advanced duo composed for Marimba & Vibraphone. It is inspired by well - water, and the many places it can be found. This is a very impressionistic work so interpretation and ideas are up to the player. This leaves alot of lee-way for you to play this in your own way giving your performance a unique twist. For this reason it is an essential work for anyone looking for a modern duet for Marimba and Vibraphone.  Please Note:Included recording is a MIDI meaning it was played by a computer, this does not fully represent the work but still gives a decent idea as to what to expect.Score + Separate parts are included.

Percussion Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.912929 Composed by Brandon Nelson. Concert,Contemporary. Score and parts. 8 pages. Brandon Nelson #2907437. Published by Brandon Nelson (A0.912929). For percussion duo. Required instruments: bells, vibraphone, xylophone, temple blocks, suspended cymbals (3 sizes). General programming. Advanced Intermediate level.Commissioned by Chris Nadeau for CAn-Duo. Premiered at Colorado State University, October 16, 2016.It is common knowledge that the universe we see is composed of tiny particles known as atoms. For much of scientific history, it was thought that atoms were made up of three indivisible particles: protons, neutrons, and electrons. Thanks to contemporary advances in physics, we now know that these particles are, in fact, made up of much smaller particles and that these constituents sometimes behave in ways that confound what we thought we knew of the physical universe. In this piece, I have portrayed one type of these subatomic particles, the quark. There are six types (or flavors) of quark: up, down, charm, strange, top, and bottom. These are differentiated by the type of charge they carry and their masses. The first movement is Strange Quark. This flavor has a negative charge and is relatively light. Much like the particle, this movement often behaves in unusual ways.Top Quark, the second movement, portrays the quark flavor that is by far the heaviest. Slow and massive, this particle allowed for the study of the famous Higgs boson. The final movement, Up Quark, is light and decays quickly, much like this particle that contributes to both protons and neutrons. The universe is indeed a wonder to behold and its scale is hardly comprehensible to the human mind. And yet, it is becoming increasingly apparent that there exists an entire universe yet to uncover in the most infinitesimal pieces of matter. It is my hope that the wonder and mystery this inspires be conveyed through this piece of music.

Jordan Morrison Music #2988333. Published by Jordan Morrison Music (A0.962499). This Vibraphone Concerto is an Advanced piece for Vibraphone and piano. It is written in a way that will stretch the player’s ability to communicate with an accompanist and perform complex crossed and additive patterns. This concerto requires the soloist to develop a keen sense of phrasing to execute the melodic and additive lines properly. Duration – 13minsThis piece was started in 2008 as an incidental piano piece written for The Revolving Doors Soap Opera. I didn't finish the piece until 2013 when by accident I changed the midi sound to a vibraphone and proceeded to rewrite the 1st theme for vibraphone and piano. The flow of the piece could be attributed somewhat to listening to the music of Phillip Glass, Jethro Tull, Claude Debussy, and Béla Fleck at the time. I wrote parts of this composition while under the instruction of Dr. Daniel McCarthy.

Vibraphone Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.934981 By Tears For Fears. By Christopher Hughes, Ian Stanley, and Roland Orzabal. Arranged by Jeff Calissi. Pop. Individual part. 5 pages. Garden State Publications #4785701. Published by Garden State Publications (A0.934981). Everybody Wants to Rule the World was somewhat of an afterthought during the 1985 recording of Songs from the Big Chair. Initially regarded as not fitting with the rest of the album, the song was written and recorded in two weeks and placed at the end of the track listing. After its release, however, the song went on to be awarded Best Single at the Brit Awards the following year and was awarded a 2015 BMI award for 6 million radio airplays. Not sure if anyone has an opinion of this song other than it will never get old. This arrangement for solo vibraphone is an up-tempo shuffle and based on the radio/MTV edit, and endeavors to capture the easy feeling of an enjoyable song from the 1980s.

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.976737 Composed by Manuel de Falla. Arranged by Robert Myers. 20th Century,Folk,World. Score and parts. 113 pages. WheatMyer Music #6621545. Published by WheatMyer Music (A0.976737). Andaluza, taken from Manuel de Falla’s piano suite Cuatro Piezas Españolas, is aimed at the mainstream high school band in the United States at the grade 4 level. Boisterous tuttis, intimate solos, and passionate melodies make for an engaging excursion into Spanish folk music that allows students to explore the adventurous harmonies of de Falla's impressionistic vocabulary. The variety of colors and energy in the modern concert band amplify the life, drama, and humanity de Falla poured into his piano version. Andaluza will thus prove a thrill for both performers and audience as it celebrates this life, drama, and humanity.Soprano Sax is called for on an expressive solo but is fully cued in oboe. The absence of this instrument need not prevent an integral performance of the music.Optional parts are provided for Eb Clarinet, Treble Clef Baritone, and Double Bass for those bands having these available.View a full preview score of Andaluza at my website (wheatmyermusic.com/product/andaluza) or drop an email and I'll provide a pdf of the score for your perusal.Andaluza is the fourth member of Manuel de Falla’s Cuatro Piezas Españolas for solo piano first published in 1909. My imagination runs wild contemplating what may be pictured in de Falla’s music. It certainly seems to be a civic gathering: perhaps a wedding, a baptism, a dedication, or a feast taking place in the civic square of perhaps on a hacienda. There are scenes that may be dancing, speeches, passionate sonnets, arguments, celebrations, all ending in a lingering mysterious question with a tinge of hopefulness. Whatever Falla may have have had in mind it is full of life, drama, and humanity.I first became aware of de Falla’s work, particularly Andaluza, in the summer of 2021 during an online orchestration seminar. Each of Cuatro Piezas’s movements expresses Spanish folk music idioms through an impressionistic lens reflecting Debussy’s influence on de Falla. Andaluza immediately struck me as music that would shine in the realm of the concert band. It was a joy to explore de Falla’s music, transforming the implications of the piano stylings into the nuances and colors available to the modern wind ensemble. It was just as much if not more challenging to develop this arrangement than creating my own original music typically proves to be. But it was so rewarding to have done so and I hope you find the rewards of listening just as much worth your effort.Robert MyersS.D.G.INSTRUMENTATION:PiccoloFlute 1, 2OboeBassoon 1,2Bb Clarinet 1, 2Bb Bass ClarinetBb Soprano SaxophoneEb Alto Saxophone 1, 2Bb Tenor SaxophoneEb Baritone SaxophoneBb Trumpet 1, 2, 3Horn in F 1, 2, 3, 4Trombone 1, 2Bass TromboneEuphonium TubaTimpani (4) Mallets: Xylophone, Glockenspiel, Vibraphone, MarimbaPercussion 1: Almglocken/Cowbell, Suspended Cymbal, Marimba, Snare Drum, Glockenspiel, Triangle, XylophonePercussion 2: Hand Cymbals, Suspended Cymbals, Snare Drum, Bongos, Mark TreePercussion 3: Tambourine, Castanets, Hand Cymbals, Rainstick, Gong, Tam, TamPercussion 4: Bass Drum, Suspended Cymbal, Gong, Tam Tam, WoodblocksOptional Parts: Eb Clarinet; Baritone T.C. 1, 2; Double Bass

Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533672). Symphony No. 3, “Ave Maris Stella†(2005) was written for the Duquesne ContemporaryEnsemble and is dedicated to composer David Stock. Throughout his career, Stock has beena tireless and generous advocate on behalf of new music and living composers. This work isdedicated to him in tribute – as both an important American composer and a significantcontributor to America’s contemporary musical life. The work’s basic source material is the plainchant Ave maris stella (“Hail, star of the seaâ€) –appropriate because of Duquesne’s standing and history as a Catholic university. When thecomposition of this work first began, the original plan was for a celebratory and vibrant piece. As the planning progressed, however, personal circumstances intervened and began to changethe work’s tone – becoming substantially bleaker and more obsessive. The title of the first movement, Pentimento, is defined as “an underlying image in a painting,as an earlier painting, that shows through when the top layer of paint has become transparentwith age.†The melodic and harmonic material for the movement is entirely drawn from theplainchant source, although it is completely transformed and covered up – as in a pentimento. At various points, one can begin to hear the original plainchant “peek out†in subtle ways. The opening section of the movement obsesses again and again on what sounds like a“beginning†– as though it is trying to begin again and again. After a brief bassoon cadenza, afast and driving section starts, marked “sinister.†After driving through a series oftransformations on the plainchant material, a bridge passage leads to further attempts at the“beginning†again. Finally, these attempts are given up, and the plainchant material (theunderlying layer) begins to show through quietly – in preparation for the next movement. In the second movement, Interrupted Motet, the plainchant theme is used in a morestraightforward fashion. After the opening declamatory statements, the following sectionsmove between more free developmental techniques, based on the first movement’stransformations, and “motet†sections – using cantus firmus methods and textures fromRenaissance music. The tone and palate is, however, much darker and more obsessive. There is a brooding ponderousness to these contrapuntal developments. The final motetsection ends in a rageful shout, the plainchant material is presented again in full force, and thepent-up energy dissipates to the close.FluteOboeClarinet in BbBass Clarinet in BbBassoonHorn in F/BbTrumpet in CTrombonePercussion (1 player):tubular bells, vibraphone(Percussionist needs one rosined bow for vibraphone.)PianoViolin IViolin IIViolaCelloContrabass(single strings)This is the score only. The final motetsection ends in a rageful shout, the plainchant material is presented again in full force, and thepent-up energy dissipates to the close.FluteOboeClarinet in BbBass Clarinet in BbBassoonHorn in F/BbTrumpet in CTrombonePercussion (1 player):tubular bells, vibraphone(Percussionist needs one rosined bow for vibraphone.)PianoViolin IViolin IIViolaCelloContrabass(single strings)This is the complete set of parts. Percussion Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.811252 Composed by Antonio J. Garcia. Contemporary,Jazz,Latin,World. Score and parts. 119 pages. Gordon Cherry #6549777. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.811252). Two Dreams for Trombone and Percussion EnsembleDr. Justin Alexander (Director, VCU Percussion Ensemble) invited me to create a piece for trombone and percussion ensemble that had roles for more- and less-experienced players so that they could mix within the performance. I so enjoyed composing and performing this work. He estimates the overall difficulty grade of Movement I to be a three on a five-point scale and Movement II to be a four, with a grade four for the overall piece; but some players’ parts (within the eight total in the percussion ensemble) are indeed easier. The two Movements are approximately five minutes each. The first Movement Bilita Mpash (An Amazing Dream) calls for (1) shekeré/guiro; (2) 5-octave marimba (shared with...); (3) 5-octave marimba (shared with previous); (4) claves/drum set with mounted cowbell; (5) bell/mounted cowbell/congas; (6) hi-hat/suspended cymbal; (7) bass drum; and (8) four toms/maracas.The Second Movement (Running with the Tigers) calls for (1) xylophone; (2) vibraphone/glockenspiel; (3) 5-octave marimba; (4) drum set; (5) shaker/samba whistle/congas (opt. voice); (6) triangle/bell tree/hanging bells/agogo bells (opt. voice); (7) bass drum (opt. voice); and (8) Timpani (opt. voice). Pending difficulty levels, the conga and drum set parts can optionally be split among additional percussionists. The score notes offer a stage plot and many rehearsal tips.Bilita Mpash (An Amazing Dream)The 3-2 Rumba Clave anchors this movement, launched by the shekeré. Rhythmic vamps of multiple bars form the landscape over which the trombone’s melody emerges, followed by a move to double-time 2-3 Rumba Clave (with montuno) and back. The trombone soloist improvises without chordal accompaniment for a while so could reflect on the preceding harmonies or instead freely improvise with no concern as to chord changes, while a later section requires improv over chord changes. After the recap, a surprise tag of the ending phrase in Cha Cha sets up the rubato finish. Bilita Mpash (BILL-it-uh m-POSH) is a Bantu term for an amazing dream, a dream so good that it is the polar opposite of a nightmare-a dream in a blissful state where all is forgiven and forgotten2. Running with the TigersThe opening, written-out marimba solo is somewhat of a nod to vibist Gary Burton’s influence in bringing mallets towards the expression of modern jazz. A 9/8 samba-groove (5+4) transforms to 4/4. None of the percussionists have to have a jazz background, though the drum set player would be more challenged if not already exposed to Latin drumming. The improvised solo section could be all solo trombone or could be divided among various performers, including trading. The recap of the tune begins over 5/8 samba (3+2, later 2+3). The closing arrhythmic drum-set solo crescendos as the optional surprise of percussionists’ (or additional) voices sing at the end. The title of this movement refers to a recurring dream my dad would have, as well as to the active movements of my grandson when sleeping in his earliest years.-Antonio J. GarcÃaInstrumentation is for:Solo Trombone and 8-part Percussion Ensemble:shekeré/guiro, 2 5-octave marimbas, claves/drumset with cowbell, bell, congas, hi-hat, suspended cymbal, bass drum, toms, maracas, xylophone, vibraphone, glockenspiel, shaker, samba whistle, congas, triangle, bell tree, hanging bells, agogo bells, bass drum and timpani. This rhythmic and dramatic work includes improvisation by the Trombonist. Listen to the brilliant live performance featuring Mr. Garcia and the Virginia Commonwealth University Percussion Ensemble directed by Dr. Justin Alexander.

Cerulean: Double Percussion Concerto (2004) for two solo percussionists and ensemblewas commissioned by the Carnegie Mellon School of Music for percussionists Cory Cousins,Mike Perdue, and the Carnegie Mellon Contemporary Ensemble, Walter Morales, director. The work is dedicated to them and to Howard Stokar. The work is inspired by the ocean, particularly its greatest depths. The work is in two movements, played without break. The two movements explore the samemusical material (a specific collection of twelve pitches) in two very different ways. In thefirst movement, the material is presented often in row forms -- and harmonies derived from it.In the second movement, a more free approach is used to the material and it becomes moremotivic and gestural. The first movement, Different Purposes, is inspired by the vast diversity of deep-sea life.Musical objects interact with each other and ideas transform each other. Many of these deepseacreatures live in very isolated and solitary environments at the ocean's lowest points. They each exist and pursue their own purposes without any awareness of what else ishappening around them. However, despite this, they are all existing within a commonenvironmental system and are thus achieving goals together on a larger level. The second movement, Different Porpoises, is inspired by porpoises and other sea-creatureswho surface, thus providing a link to human land-bound life. The marimba establishes arhythmic ostinato which (although passed around) remains steady throughout most of themovement.InstrumentationFluteOboeClarinet in BbBass Clarinet in BbBassoonHorn in FPiano2 Solo Percussion:I: marimba, crotales, suspended cymbal, 2 spokes/bellsII: vibraphone (with motor), tubular bells, 3 bowls (indef. pitches),medium-size water gong (i.e., gong with bucket of water),3 roto-toms, conga, bass drum(each percussionist needs two bows)Violin IViolin IIViolaCello(All players except for the two solo percussion also playoracle rods in addition to their instruments.)The full score without the solo parts is also available for sale.. Small Ensemble Drum Set,Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Vibraphone - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.881262 Composed by Gary Powell Nash. Contemporary. Score and parts. 133 pages. Gary Powell Nash #6137361. Published by Gary Powell Nash (A0.881262). Brass Magnolia Suite (1999) for trumpet, horn, bass trombone and percussion was largely inspired by Gary Powell Nash’s residency in Mississippi, the Magnolia State from 1996-2003. Being that Mississippi, particularly the northwest part of the state known to most as the Mississippi Delta, is very rich in musical traditions, Nash chose to use some of these same traditions as the basis and major premise for his composition. For the most part, Brass Magnolia Suite is based on Mississippi Delta blues tunes and bird songs of those indigenous to the region. Such birds include the mockingbird, wood thrush, common crackle and the meadowlark. For Nash’s utilizations of these bird songs, as well as blues tunes, he took rhythms and melodic contours of each and manufactured melodies and motives of his own. While Brass Magnolia Suite is not meant to be programmatic, the five movements, which are arranged in a traditional fast-slow-fast-slow-fast format, all depict either a particular experience for Nash or a natural occurrence in Mississippi. The first movement, Fanfare, is based on the mockingbird’s song. The second movement, Homage to the Armadillos, incorporates the song of the wood thrush. The third movement, Catfishery, is supported by the tune Catfish Blues and the common grackle’s song. The fourth movement, Song of the Meadowlark, is exactly what it suggests and the fifth movement, The Gospel, is based on the gospel blues tune John, the Revelator.

The Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage

Instrumental Duet Clarinet,Instrumental Duet,Vibraphone - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.912928 Composed by Brandon Nelson. Concert,Contemporary. Score and parts. 11 pages. Brandon Nelson #2082127. Published by Brandon Nelson (A0.912928). This work is based on the book by the same title. In it, one Abraham of Wurzburg, an aspiring medieval mage and devout Jew, describes a tour that he made of points in Europe and the Middle East, searching for a mentor who would not turn out to be a charlatan (or worse). Abraham eventually finds such a figure in a small town on the banks of the Nile. Here he meets the great magician Abramelin, whose system of magic Abraham sets out in detail. What results is the present volume, which puts forth a complete course in ceremonial magic (both white and black). In Abramelin’s system, after a lengthy period of self-purification and prayer, one may call upon one’s Holy Guardian Angel, who will then instruct one further on how to conjure up the princes and demons of Hell to do your bidding. The crux of this involves using certain special squares of anagrammatic words that would compel the conjured demon to perform specified tasks. In this piece, I take five of these squares and depict them in colorful, virtuosic tone paintings. (Learn more about me at bnelsonmusic.wordpress.com).

Percussion Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.881252 Composed by Gary Powell Nash. African,Contemporary,World. Score and parts. 122 pages. Gary Powell Nash #3553601. Published by Gary Powell Nash (A0.881252). Han River Fantasy Suite is based on and inspired by Nash’s first trip to Vietnam in 2007. Commissioned by a percussion and horn duo, it is a five movement chamber concerto with mvts 1 and 2 performed continuously, as are mvts 4 and 5, giving the aural perception of 3 movements. Mvt. 1, Dawning and mvt. 2, Morning Power Walks stem from Nash’s morning routine during that particular journey as he walked along the Han River in Danang, Vietnam every morning. Mvt 1 is a slow and lyrical prelude, with vibraphone and chimes serving as melodic and colorful supporting lines for the horn solo and that immediately proceeds to Mvt. 2, a fast and somewhat fiery movement, alluding to a fast power walk. Mvt. 3. Moonlight Stroll is slow and lyrical, highlighted by bowed vibes and triangle being struck while placed on a timpani during a glissando in the middle section. Mvt. 4, Boat Ride is a fast and dance-like, composed in compound duple meter and transitions to mvt. 5, Going Home, in a slightly faster simple quadruple meter.

Instructional,Standards. Score and parts. 78 pages. ERIC V BOLVIN #3579873. Published by ERIC V BOLVIN (A0.829070). All teachers and students can use this book. It is simply an outline for developing a consistent practice routine. Sections A and B should consist of exercises that are for the instrument. For trumpet this may include flexibility, long tones, scales, arpeggios, buzzing, pedal tones or any other technical exercise. Sections C, D and E should be used for assignments concerning music. These could include etudes, jazz transcriptions, orchestral excerpts, concertos, ensemble parts or any other musical application. The indications for REST are very important for all brass players. You must always rest as much as you play during the A and B sections of the lesson. This is the warm-up section of your routine and you will feel better if you take your time during these first and most important steps. If you become fatigued during parts A or B, you are not resting enough and shouldstart fresh the next day, all the while considering the fact that you have not rested properly. The opposing manuscript page is for writing scales, exercises, tunes, licks, notes, or whatever you wish to write there. The book also has a space at the bottom for students to write down how much time they practice each day.
