Easy Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.596592 Composed by Juan MarÃa Solare. 20th Century,Contemporary,Sacred,Standards. Score. 8 pages. Juan Maria Solare #5799759. Published by Juan Maria Solare (A0.596592). About the music Both pieces of this diptych are miniatures with a structure quite similar to each of the pieces of the Album für die Jugend Opus 68 by Robert Schumann. The melodies are strongly rooted in Japanese music (particularly obvious in the second piece). Aesthetically, this is neoclassical music (a quite broad concept nowadays). Fans of Erik Satie, Ludovico Einaudi or Joep Beving will possibly feel at home. Both pieces were composed on 6 June 2020 (the first one with my daughter Laura sleeping on my breast). Find this music soon on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube or any other streaming platform (either under my name or performed by other pianists, possibly Iannis Eralos). Total duration: ca. 5:15.https://open.spotify.com/album/27MbJnfPjcolbQZAmNs8tKWeep Because Its Over: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWflYuEoLy8Smile Because It Happened: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SQFUlb7lFgAbout the titlesIn a poem by the German Romantic poet Ludwig Jacobowski titled Leuchtende Tage (Radiant Days) and published in August 1899, he writes:Nicht weinen, weil sie vorüber!Lächeln, weil sie gewesen!Literally:Don't cry because they are over (they: the radiant days)Smile because they happened.Usually it is quoted this way:Don't cry because it’s overSmile because it happened. For my piece, I adapted this idea und -not quite humbly- think that is better now: Do weep because it’s overBut also smile because it happened Why is it better now? Because… where is the issue with weeping? The first step is to accept that pain exists. Nobody has the moral authority to deny you the possibility of crying. Weeping is not a shame or a disgrace. Besides, only he who weeps is credible when he laughs. By the way, these words are sometimes attributed to Confucius. I leave to you the task of determining whether Jacobowski borrowed this thought from him.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1343120 Composed by Nicholas Yandell. 20th Century,21st Century,Classical,Contemporary,Sacred. Score. 7 pages. Nicholas Yandell Music #928399. Published by Nicholas Yandell Music (A0.1343120). Premiered July 15, 2023 at the Cascadia Composers In Good Hands student piano concert at Portland State University, in Portland, Oregon, USA.Composed in 2023.Level: Intermediate level; great for a high school student recital, but could be a very managable piece for a college student as well. Composition notes: The first of a trio of pieces called Breathing Structures, this piece was written for and premiered/performed by Andrew Bren as part of the Cascadia Composers' In Good Hands program (where composers write custom works student performers). This is a expressive, post-minimalist influenced composition, with flexible tempos and dynamics. Great for students who are interested in late 20th-century/early 21st-century classical music influenced by Philip Glass, John Adams, Michael Torke, and Ludovico Einaudi. The following poem serves as the program note for this work: The Emergence Stepping out that place of hidingAn infernal state of comfortWith smothering holds of safetyShielding from rays of lucidity. Stumbling forwardOne step pastThe formerly towering limit.A rush of adrenalineAn urge of retreatBut staying firmly plantedWith bristling folliclesAnd quickened breathing.Transformation is jarringShedding skin is tiringYet soon will exhilarateReleasing onwardLeaving old pathsAs distant dreamsPainted by the hazeOf the oncoming gleam.Performing Rights Organization: ASCAPComposer's website: https://www.nicholasyandell.com.

Mixed choir (SATB) - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q53928 (What should I do?). Composed by Peteris Vasks. This edition: choral score. Choir. Schott Choral Music. Downloadable, Choral score. Duration 8 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q53928. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q53928). Italian. For my composition Cosa devo fare, I was inspired when I read the text accompanying the picture cycle Books of Venice by the Latvian artist Ilmars Blumbergs, who died in 2016. The Books of Venice, consisting of paintings and photographs, were created by the artist during a stay in Venice and presented in an exhibition in the Oratorio de San Ludovico in Venice two years before his death. In the text, Blumbergs is quoted with an anecdote according to which a sick friend told him that, when in despair, and hoping for recovery, he had asked the Virgin Mary for help: “What should I do?†To Blumbergs’ surprise, the sick friend claimed to have received the answer: “Be as you were when you were in love.†(Pēteris Vasks).

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.913362 Composed by Marcos Fernandez. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score. 10 pages. Marcos Fernandez-Barrero #6596501. Published by Marcos Fernandez-Barrero (A0.913362). Watch the composer perform Lougeo and subscribe to www.pianounderscore.com channel here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqfKytMiMUEThis is a concertante ‘muiñeira’, a musical form typical from Northern Spain (Galicia and part of Asturias) that resembles the lively Irish gig and is usually played by Gallicean bagpipes. Such folk traits gave inspiration to this work, written using a Celtic and New Age harmonic language similar to the one used by Ludovico Einaudi, Yann Tiersen, Michael Nyman as well as Bill Whellan's score for Riverdance. It is a technically advanced work which brings virtuosity to the concert hall as well as a good ending of a recital's programme. It is written and dedicated to pianist Ferran Cullell.

Piano Solo - Advanced - Digital Download Composed by Isadar. Contemporary Classical, Neo- Classical, Activities and Games, Recital, New Age. Sheet Music Single. 9 pages. Published by Mainya Music Publishing (BMI)
Contains:<br> "Throwing The Dice"<br> - taken from the Isadar solo piano collections, "Active Imagination / Reconstructed" (also available on SMP) <br> <br> Sounds like: Liz Story's ("Things With Wings"), Philip Aaberg, George Winston, early Windham Hill solo piano artists<br> <br> Transcribed by: David Shenton ( https://www.shentonmusic.com/ ) verbatim to the sound recording<br> <br> Note: A slightly different version of this composition is also heard on the Isadar album, "Reconstructed" (Produced by Will Ackerman)<br> <br> Album & Songbook Review by: Kathy Parsons<br> <br> I love this CD! It constantly amazes me how many outstanding composer/pianists there are out there - especially in relation to the few who are highly (commercially) successful within this broad genre. I would say that Active Imagination definitely belongs near the top of the heap. Isadar’s style is original, and his pianism is excellent. He lists his inspirations as Liz Story, Keith Jarrett, and Bill Evans, and I can hear traces of all three in his playing, but find his composing and playing styles to be uniquely his own.<br> <br> The first three tracks are lively and upbeat (“Active Imagination”, “Throwing the Dice”, and “Where the Wild Things Are”) with an easy, jazzy, improvised feel. The meter changes are fascinating, and the bluesy beat on “Wild Things” is infectious.<br> <br> From there, the mood seems to gradually darken and become more introspective. “Waiting” is a beautiful, flowing mood piece full of questions and a lovely melody line. Isadar’s cover of Liz Story’s “Wedding Rain” is wonderful - this is a piece I often work on with my advanced students, and everything about Isadar’s interpretation of the piece seems right without being a carbon-copy of Liz’s recording.<br> <br> “Feu Follet (the ‘spook’ light’)” has a nice, easy flow with a strong sense of mystery; it also has an unusual rhythm that lightens the mood and adds a bounce. “Uncertainty” is cooler and more aloof, but gorgeous in its flowing introspection - that it ends with a major chord, feels like the soul-searching has had positive results. “Love Chaconne” is the closing track, and is the longest and most abstract piece on the CD. The left hand plays a repeated pattern while the right hand goes off in several different directions (one of the primary characteristics of a “chaconne”). Beautiful in its simplicity, this is the only track that seems to contain an element of pain and sorrow, but never dissolves into melodrama.<br> <br> Active Imagination is excellent from start to finish and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes solo piano with substance and complexity, but is still accessible, melodic, and rhythmic. Bravo amundo!<br> <br> Active Imagination Sheet Music Collection is the companion songbook to Isadar’s 1999 CD release, Active Imagination. The CD was one of my favorites for the year when I reviewed it for the print version of “Wind and Wire” magazine, so I was really looking forward to the sheet music! Transcribed note-for-note by David Shenton of ShentonMusic.com (I proofed about half of the book, so I can attest to how accurate it is!), it is up to you to make the music sound as close to the CD as you want or to interpret the music and make your own statements with it.<br> <br> One thing that really stands out about this collection is how much FUN it is to play. The rhythms are interesting and catchy, and the mood in several of the songs is playful and upbeat. This is especially true with the title song, “Throwing the Dice,” “Where the Wild Things Are,” and “Feu Follet (the ‘spook’ light).” “Waiting,” “Love Chaconne,” and “Uncertainty” are slower, more introspective, and a bit moody, making this a sheet music collection that contains a variety of moods and styles. The only piece missing from the book is Liz Story’s “Wedding Rain,” but the sheet music for that song is available in some of Ms. Story’s own collections.<br> <br> Early-advanced players should have no trouble with this music. The timing on some of the songs is a little bit tricky, but if you count it as you are learning it, it will fall into place.<br> <br> If you haven’t heard the CD, check it out, too! This book is available here from SMP, isadar.com and amazon.com. Highly recommended!<br> <br> Isadar is an artist on both Enlightened Piano Radio & Whisperings Solo Piano Radio, the latter featuring some of today's biggest names in solo piano music, including Ludovico Einaudi, David Nevue, Brian Crain, Kevin Kern, Robin Spielberg, Michele McLaughlin, Philip Wesley and over 300 more...<br> <br> Also available as sheet music in physical songbooks, digital downloads, as well as software for Yamaha Disklavier player-pianos.<br> <br> For more information, visit his website at: http://www.isadar.com
