String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1399365 Composed by Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. 19th Century,Contest,Festival,Historic,Romantic Period,Standards. 252 pages. Jmsgu3 #982648. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1399365). Mussorgsky is known for his ability to evoke vivid pictures through his music. He creates soundscapes that transport listeners to other places and times. Using complex harmonies and shifting tonalities, Mussorgsky creates sonic paintings that are as diverse and varied as any works of art in a museum. He takes listeners on a journey through different landscapes and environments, ranging from pastoral settings to the underworld depths. In his famous suite, Pictures at an Exhibition, Mussorgsky gives each movement a title referencing a painting, sculpture, or architectural feature from an art museum. The suite is composed to capture the moods and emotions the artworks evoke. From the bright and energetic Promenade to the somber and mysterious Catacombs, Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition paints a vivid sonic landscape that brings the listener into the art museum.Pictures at an Exhibition (Ð?аÑ?Ñ?инки Ñ Ð²Ñ?ÑÑ?авки) by Modest PetroviÄ Musorgskij, 1874(Ð?одеÑÑ? Chamber Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.922635 Composed by Johann Strauss Jr. Arranged by Aaron Meier. Romantic Period,World. Score and parts. 7 pages. Aaron Meier #5792353. Published by Aaron Meier (A0.922635). Original by Johann Strauss II Reduction to String Orchestra by Aaron Meier Part: Full Score ONLY True to the original work by Strauss, this reduction for string orchestra features the ornaments and mystical writing that defines Strauss' polkas. There are optional percussion parts to be added at the discretion of the ensemble, however even without percussion the ensemble will sound full (the percussion acts as an ornament). Difficulty: Intermediate-advanced - advanced (best-suited for advanced student ensembles) ---Performance Notes: • Approximate length: 3:30 minutes • 1st Violins: In m. 1, trill a half step from a D♠to a D♮ • 2nd Violins:  - At m. 42, divide players by 3, with 2 players playing line A and the remaining player playing line B  - At m. 72-75, emphasize the E♠in the div. • Snare Drum: The buzz roll needs to be quieter than how it is played in the midi recording (*see YouTube link ↓) History: The Olga-Polka itself owed its creation to a Russian royal wedding which took place in St. Petersburg on 28 August 1857. On that day, amid accompanying splendour, the music-loving Grand Duke Michail Nikolaievich (1832-1909), youngest brother of Tsar Alexander II, married Princess Caecilie of Baden (1839-91), daughter of Archduke Leopold of Baden. Johann Strauss, who at that time was giving a summer season of concerts in nearby Pavlovsk, used the opportunity occasioned by the event to enhance his already enviable popularity with the Russian royal family and composed the Caecilien-Polka in honour of the lovely young bride. Indeed, it is clear from a letter which Johann wrote in late July 1857 to Carl Haslinger, his publisher in Vienna, that the new polka had been prepared well in advance of the wedding (the fair copy of the full orchestral score made for the publisher's engraver is dated 9 August) and was enjoying success even before the royal couple's official engagement on 16August 1857. Sometime after performing the Caecilien-Polka in Pavlovsk, Johann despatched the work to the Austrian capital where his brother Josef conducted its Viennese première, together with that of Johann's waltz Telegraphische Depeschen (op. 195, Volume 28), at his own benefit concert in the Volksgartenon Sunday 18 October 1857. The Wiener Allgemeine Theaterzeitung (16.10.1857) remarked that both works have caused a sensation in St. Petersburg and are truly genial Viennese sounds full of verve and melody. Since tradition demanded that the German Princess Caecilie adopt a Russian name - Olga Feodorovna - before her marriage, so Johann's Caecilien-Polka also underwent a change of identity. On 8 December 1857 Carl Haslinger announced the publication of Strauss's Olga-Polka, on the title page of which is the inscription: Dedicated to her Imperial Highness Grand Duchess Olga, née Princess of Baden. It was under this title, too, that Johann himself first conducted the work in Vienna at a concert in the Volksgarten on 1 November 1857, shortly after his return from Russia. Reporting on this event, the Wiener Allgemeine Theaterzeitung (3.11.1857) observed: The 'Olga-Polka' is a most delightful, fragrant musical bouquet, full of fine, gracious rhythms. Difficulty: Intermediate-advanced - advanced (best-suited for advanced student ensembles) --- Performance Notes: • Approximate length: 3:30 minutes • 1st Violins: In m. Chamber Orchestra - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.921864 Composed by Friedrich Kuhlau. Arranged by Joshua Feltman. Classical. Score and parts. 23 pages. Ryan Blauvelt #3519241. Published by Ryan Blauvelt (A0.921864). The sweet and joyful character of this Kuhlau Sonatina has made it the most popular of his piano works.Classical sonatas normally have three parts or movements: fast-slow-fast. However, this sonatina has only 2 movements, fast and faster. The energetic second movement is short but it packs a punch. The main theme is danceable and very articulated, but it also contains a more lyrical section, brilliant chromatic scales, and a dramatic grand finale. This arrangement features one pianist in a quasi-concerto format. The six Sonatinas, Op. 55, were published in Copenhagen in 1823 and, like the other sonatinas, were designed for teaching purposes or otherwise for the amateur market.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.742468 Composed by Franz Liszt. Arranged by Arte Nova Music Lab. Concert,Romantic Period,Standards. Score. 7 pages. Arte Nova Music Lab #4412089. Published by Arte Nova Music Lab (A0.742468). The Consolations are a set of six solo piano works by Franz Liszt. The compositions take the musical style of Nocturnes with each having its own distinctive style. Each Consolation is composed in either the key of E major or D-flat major. E major is a key regularly used by Liszt for religious themes. There exist two versions of the Consolations. The first (S.171a) was composed by Liszt between 1844 and 1849 and published in 1992 by G. Henle Verlag. The second (S.172) was composed between 1849 and 1850 and published in 1850 by Breitkopf & Härtel, containing the familiar Consolation No. 3, Lento placido, in D-flat Major. The third Consolation is in D-flat major and initially marked as Lento placido. It is the most popular of the Consolations and also a favorite encore piece. Its style is similar to the Chopin Nocturnes, in particular, it seems to have been inspired by Chopin’s Nocturne Op. 27 No. 2. The similarity between the two works has been interpreted as a tribute to Chopin who died in 1849, a year before the Consolations were published. This third Consolation is however one of several of Liszt's works that take a style reminiscent of Chopin; some examples include Liszt's Polonaises, Berceuse, Mazurka brillante, and his Ballades. In 1883, years after composing the Consolation, Liszt received a Grand piano from the Steinway Company with a design that included a sostenuto pedal. Liszt began transcribing this Consolation for the new sostenuto pedal and in a letter to Steinway he wrote: In relation to the use of your welcome tone-sustaining pedal I inclose two examples: Danse des Sylphes, by Berlioz, and No. 3 of my Consolations. I have today noted down only the introductory bars of both pieces, with this proviso, that, if you desire it, I shall gladly complete the whole transcription, with exact adaptation of your tone-sustaining pedal. Liszt recommended sparing usage of the sostenuto pedal in the interpretation of this Consolation and opined on the positive effect it would have on the more tranquil passages. 2 Sonatas for Fortepiano
Piano solo
Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1485608 Composed by Joseph Martin K…
(+)
Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1485608 Composed by Joseph Martin Kraus. Arranged by Bertil van Boer. Classical. Score. 52 pages. Artaria Editions #1062673. Published by Artaria Editions (A0.1485608). The dates of the two sonatas is not known, although it is clear stylistically that the E major is a much more advanced work compositionally than the E-flat major. The latter also exists in a version as a sonata for violin and keyboard, which can be dated to Kraus's grand tour, having been written in Paris in 1785 and subsequently distributed by the Viennese publisher Johann Traeg. Since there are substantive differences in the two versions, it is impossible to say which came first, and Hans Eppstein has suggested that their may even have been a third, now lost original for fortepiano, since the extant solo keyboard version clearly represents a more advanced version. This cannot be proven, but it seems clear that the version presented here can be considered Kraus's last word in this tortuous compositional trail, probably receiving its final form for publication as part of the Due Sonata per il Forte Piano that hlstrm published about 1788 as one of the first editions stemming from his new privilege. Given that the E major work is one of considerable complexity and virtuosity, it is probable that this sonata at least was composed especially for the publication. In any case, hlstrm's edition is the earliest source of the works; a number of additional copies dating from about 1795 and later all can be traced back to it. That the composer himself was involved intimately with the edition can be seen by the unusual number of clear and precise markings and articulations. These have been accepted without comment or alteration. Occasional obvious wrong notes, the result of overlooked proof reading, have been tacitly corrected, and some of the slurrings have been regularized according to parallel passages where such do not appear to have been deliberately varied. It is the suggestion of the editor that the Adagio of the E majot sonata should be performed la C.P.E.Bach in a fantasia manner with considerable flexibility in terms of tempo and relative rhythm; to play it in a strict fashion obliviates the flow of the movement.
