Stabat Mater - string ensemble parts
Small Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1195919 Composed by Annemieke L…

Small Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1195919 Composed by Annemieke Lustenhouwer. Contemporary. Score and parts. 80 pages. Annemieke Lustenhouwer #795094. Published by Annemieke Lustenhouwer (A0.1195919). What happens when you close your eyes and you see yourself standing next to Mother Mary when Jesus dies? What do you see and what do you feel? That was what I’ve been asking myself for years when I read the text Stabat Mater. This composition tells about this experience and this questions. Sometimes a motif tells quite literally about this story, like the moment when Jesus is nailed down the cross: first the right hand, then the left hand and finaly with one nail both feet. In the first part of the composition, the viola tells with sforzato accents about this. This Stabat Mater is not only an expression of the pain of the Virgin Mother, but is also a tribute to JS Bach as well. Bach is by some seen as a fith evangelist. Nowadays there are still a lot of people who are affected by how his music tells about biblical stories, like I am. In this Stabat Mater I use the number 5 to express that: the first part is written in 5/4th and the last part Quando corpus et Amen is written with 5 parts in the choir. There can also be found a reworked choral in the choir passages of  O quam tristis et afflicta. It is the choral Wie nahe mir mein Ende from BWV 166.Polyfony is a returning presence in this Stabat Mater. I had an visual idea about this. When I was young I saw in an exhibition a tapestry with all kinds of colours and threads, and everything felt in motion. It was a kind of organized mess, but it was beautiful and felt perfect. I wondered if I could manage to express this idea in music as well. Under one of the polyphonic passages there is a Latin-American dance rhythm to express that motion. I heard that rhythm in my childhood in a rhythmbox of the keyboard of my dad. Another passage has the baroque sarabande-rhythme underneath in the double bass.A lullaby-feeling in some parts of the Stabat Mater tells about another story that got intertwined with this composition. It’s the story of a mother who rocks her terminal dying little son in her arms. I once read that story and it felt connected with the Stabat Mater text for a long time. I decided to express that as well. This composition is dedicated to the Dutch conductor Geert van den Dungen. However I saw many conductors, while playing the oboe and clarinet from a young age, there was nobody who let me think very deeply about music. Geert was the one who changed that for me. I started to study scores and developed a great interest in music analysis and music psychology. Many moments of inspiration and understanding for this Stabat Mater happened on choir rehearsals and concerts where Geert was working. I am very grateful for that.String parts only, see for conductors/ choir score Sheet Music plus and Sheet music direct.

Herbert L. Clarke - The Southern Cross for Solo Cornet with Brass Quintet

Brass Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.810733 Composed by Herbert L. Clarke. Arranged by Geoffrey Bergler. 20th Century,Folk. Score and parts. 19 pages. Gordon Cherry #1986139. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.810733). Cornet solos are an important part of the American Brass tradition. The Southern Cross is one of Clarke's most well known Cornet solos and was written in 1911, dedicated to the Australians and first recorded by the composer with Orchestra the next year  for Victor Records. During 1911, Clarke was the solo Cornetist of the Sousa Band while the band was on a world tour that included visits to South Africa, Tazmania and Australia from March through to August. Below is a photo of the Sousa band from their 1911 tour. Clarke is sitting in the front row 5th in from the right with his moustache and his Cornet on his lap. He assuredly composed this solo to perform on that tour. The Southern Cross is a constellation that is only seen from the southern hemisphere and features the five stars of the Cross from the 1901 design of the Australian flag. This 5-minute virtuosic arrangement by Geoffrey Bergler features not only the Cornet, but a bit of all the other four members of the Brass Quintet. Instrumentation is for: 2 Trumpets in B-flat (Trumpet 1 solo, Trumpet 2 also plays Piccolo) Horn, Trombone Tuba/Bass Trombone The sound track features Mr. Bergler from his student days as Cornet soloist.

Solo Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.899127 Composed by Richard Strauss. Arranged by Rod Whittle. 20th Century. Individual part. 4 pages. Maggie Creek Music #3037161. Published by Maggie Creek Music (A0.899127). Transcription for solo classical guitar. 4 pages. Richard Strauss (1864 -1949) Strauss's music amounts to a huge body of symphonic and operatic work written over 60 years. Full of vitality, endlessly melodic, brilliantly orchestrated, it begins and ends in the romantic tradition, but for the most part expresses something more modern and individualistic, not without controversy in its time. Variation of style and structure is drawn from the descriptive (literary) nature of compositions, and an extraordinary inventiveness enlivens the scenes, moods and situations. Strauss said once that he produced music the way cows give milk, and indeed his music rarely seems contrived. The opera Strauss wrote 15 operas on a variety of subjects and across the whole spectrum of drama. He acknowledged being enchanted by the soprano voice, and his writing for it highlights many of the works, including Adriane auf Naxos (composed in 1912). The opera has been described as 'sparkling', which sums it up well, and passages influenced by Bach, Mozart, Puccini, and Wagner add to the interest. The storyline is a play within a play, the second part being the mythological 'Opera' staged in the story. The three pieces transcribed* are from this Opera. The guitar arrangements All classical guitar pieces are compromises. The instrument has only six strings, the left hand four fingers able to be used, and with the right hand its rare to use more than three fingers and the thumb. So, despite the amount of noise possible, it's inevitable that passages occur where either harmony, bass or fragments of counterpoint that would be beneficial are left out. In particular, the higher up the neck music is played the simpler it tends to be, if harder to play, and unless the low bass is an open string there wont be any. So I think the main part of attaining a fair transcription (better to be called an arrangement if the original musical structure is not strictly followed, as in this case) is determining how a good compromise can be reached. Melody, counterpoint, bass and main harmonies demand inclusion, and register is important. One may generally assume the original score can't be improved on. However, if the music may sound well on guitar, and the above elements can be incorporated without the playing becoming very difficult, something enjoyable to play and worthwhile listening to should be able to be achieved. Overture; 'A golden time …' Here the Mozart influence, better, inspiration, is wonderfully evident. A gentle waltz time (only the first section of the overture is transcribed) carries the colourful harmonies, strong melodic threads and connecting flourishes that stamp both pieces. The aria is alluded to in the Overture several times, which as you would expect, is intricately woven with the hints themes later to be established in the Opera. It has a kind of 'jazzy' freedom, and it's always miraculous to me that composition so involved can retain its musical line, here done in Strauss's inimitable way. The aria, sung not far into the Opera, has the perfect inevitability of Mozart, but again it is Strauss. As explained, keys have been changed to suit the guitar. Chorus and Aria This selection from the finale has features well worth trying to translate. The device of having a strong chorus, in the style of a Bach chorale, stated and then counterpointed by a solo voice in a restatement, is potent, and that in the opera the chorus (of the three nymphs) isn't immediately followed by the accompanying aria (of Ariadne) means the latter comes as a moment of surprising beauty. Neither parts are complicated, and lovely arpeggios, a feature Strauss's music, often impart the assured progressions. A problem was to capture the distinct register of the soprano voices, som.

The styleof music was coarse and rhythmic with lyrics telling timeless stories. I borrowed the mostsimple of melodic fragments and use them to create contemporary guitar workssuitable for concert performance.<br> <br> The Cancion de Hialara translates as ‘The Spinner’sSong’. In this, I have imitated the rustic drones of the hurdy-gurdies found inOccitan bands through the use of tremolo patterns.<br> <br> Som Som is a lullaby. This melody isfamiliar to many cultures across Europe and beyond.<br> <br> Lò NostreAse translatesas ‘Our Donkey’. It is a comic song which tells of the antics of a stubbornrustic animal. Players should enjoy the hemiola rhythms where 3/4 is set again6/8.<br> <br> For other solo compositions, arrangements, and teaching scores, see: www.danjonesguitarist.com.<br> <br> This cancause some difficulty in reading. Also, to take advantage of the sonority ofthe instrument when tuned this way, the unusual playing positions and fingeringare critical. Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1133711 By Various. By Anonymous, Giorgio Mainerio, Michael Praetorius, Pierre Attaignant, Pierre Certon, Pierre Phalese, and Tielman Susato. Arranged by Alastair Lodge. Early Music,Folk,Historic,Medieval,Renaissance. 50 pages. Wold Meridian #733808. Published by Wold Meridian (A0.1133711). This is a companion to my earlier volume Chording to the Dance Masters which presented 44 of my favourite Renaissance Dance band tunes and arranged them as a single melody line with chords derived from the original harmony lines. In this volume I have reunited 22 of the pieces with the lower parts in the score, so that with more collaborators, the fullness of the original arrangement can be heard. The chords are still present, so if the ensemble is short handed, and lines are missing, the arrangements will still work. What is more, by contrasting the melody and chords with the full scoring, it should be possible to work some light and shade into performances. You can hear all the pieces and their chords on YouTube together with contemporary art and historical background material:https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYRWH2nycMkMoIoEYEMVPa_EXY6NVDpNSAs a help to those less confident in playing harmony lines, I have provided links to playlists of videos online for each part of each piece. You will hear the selected line on its own with chords and percussion, with the melody line added on repeats. The final repeat includes the other harmony lines, but the featured line is slightly louder in the mix. The performance starts with a percussion beat introduction to set the tempo.Who were the Publishers and the Dance Masters? What did they do? Sometime around the 1500s, the popularity of dance music exploded in Europe. Dance Masters were collecting chansons and dance tunes from courts and rural parts and were teaching these to new audiences, spreading their arrangements and reflecting the performance styles of the areas from which they had collected the tunes. Publishers were able to take these tunes that were becoming known across the regions and nations and spread them even more widely, thanks to technological innovations in music printing which made it quicker and therefore cheaper to produce collections of these dances in four or more parts. These publishers were often highly accomplished composers in their own right, who were both able to provide distinctive harmony lines and compose new tunes in the style of their sources, feeding the courts with enduring tunes. Composers and printers of this time would often use note values that are double the length of those we would be used to seeing today, and so to make this version more readable, breves have become semibreves or whole notes, semibreves have become minims or half notes and so on. Working with this publication For those just starting out in Early Music, the volume is an ideal introduction, since the ensemble can build from a soloist with accompaniment with the chords alone, and parts can be added in as additional musicians become available. Instrumentation for these pieces was not specified in the original prints. The range of each part is quite limited, and though the harmonies may seem strange at times, key signatures are kind to the less experienced musician. If enthusiasm takes hold, then reproductions of early music instruments are sold by some very talented makers, as well as coming up on auction sites. Otherwise, it is possible to put together a fairly convincing ensemble with recorders, violins, a cello and mandolins, bouzoukis, flutes or guitars and gradually introduce the authentic instruments as they become available.

I usually do not remember many of my dreams but in this particular dream I was in Japan under an esplanade of cherry trees. I remember how amazed I feel and is for sure one of my most memorable dreams. II. DreamcatcherWhile I was writing the initial ideas of for the work I came across a Journal that explored how the use of a particular chord helped reduce nightmares in patients suffering from nightmare disorders. In the study, patients were exposed to the chord C69 (A C Major with the added 6th and 9th) during therapeutic sessions. This chord is used at the beginning of the movement as it moves to explore different sonorities. In this movement you might be able to hear a representation of the “heartbeat†played by the bass drum and timpani, then a more “stressful†section will come to represent a nightmare followed again by another repetition of the C69 chord. If you feel relaxed during the performance, it is on purpose! III. A Dance in the desertDreams, in my case, are usually a mix of different non-related things. For the final movement, I decided to use that idea. I started this dance with a “oriental†style and them throughout the middle of the movement I moved it to a waltz that was influenced by my grandfather. He used to have a small orchestra and he used to play waltzes during events and private parties.I hope the music takes you through a journey of musical emotions.Juan Guerra González

Published by Suzy Robinson (A0.1166886). I wanted to write something based on a mediaeval mystery play and happened across an 11th Century version of the play of the Bridegroom – the tale of the wise and the foolish virgins. It was called Sponsus and is the oldest of this type of play written in both the vernacular and in Latin. What is even more extraordinary is that it is, in fact, a trilingual text in Latin, langue d'oc, and some words in the langue d'oïl. The passage which I have set is in langue d'oc, but for ease of singing I used a modern-French translation. This is scored for soprano, baroque violin, and viola da gamba. It can be performed at 415 or 440 ad libertum.I am very taken by the patchwork nature of mystery plays which is part promenade, part liturgy, part staged, part audience participation. I hope that having set a straightforwardly strophic text and using instruments more often heard in Early Music, jigsaws well with the more modern angular and sometimes dissonant nature of the melodic lines of this piece. I love the play of languages, and the mixing up through words and music of past, present, and future, revealing that time is perhaps a circuitous exploration rather than a strictly linear trajectory. And the end of all our exploring / Will be to arrive where we started / And know the place for the first time..

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1239681 Composed by David M. Stewart. March. 15 pages. DMStewart Music #835072. Published by DMStewart Music (A0.1239681). This piece, The Palatka Port March, is intended to depict a little of the sense of life in the early years of Floridaon the St. John’s River. It was once a target for ships venturing out to find the New World. It has been used to ferrybarges and livestock. Some simply used it for sailing and transportation throughout the years, and some to catch fishto provide for themselves. The life on this river has been diverse, yet fulfilling over the years and will continue to beso in the future. The melodies in this piece were taken from the shape of the St. Johns River from its upper point in Jacksonville, to where our part of the story ends in Palatka. Notice the falling and rising 8th note runs at the beginning, thisrepresents the rise and the fall of the river as it enters Jacksonville from the Atlantic Ocean. The first strain is alinear, yet very regal melody where the heavy beats follow the contour of the river as it runs south. Here you canpicture the ships coming from Europe across the ocean and the excitement they felt when they reached it. Thesecond strain is more playful and represents the life that the river has provided for people for centuries. The Triorepresents the calmness and civility when Palatka was discovered, and the happiness the settlers must have feltknowing they had found their perfect place to call home. The break strain represents the hard work and efforts thatwere put forth to secure the land and build a community. There would have been many triumphs and manysuccesses, but the journey would have not been easy. The final strain is the culmination of the piece. This is thecelebration and the feeling of personal nobility that all of the settlers felt after taking a river and dirt and building acity. I hope you enjoy, The Palatka Port March!

Choral Choir (SAB) - Digital Download SKU: A0.922168 Composed by Jane Dang. Christian,Contemporary,Easter. Octavo. 10 pages. Jane Dang #5372953. Published by Jane Dang (A0.922168). An easy choir piece for Easter! What is the difference between my God and Buddha? What makes my atheistic friends believe Jesus is God? Jesus is not dead like all the other gods! His resurrection, the evidence of His victory over the power of sin, gives the unbeliever hope of eternal life and the believer hope of glorification. All the toils and loss of this life can turn to abundant joy if we choose to meditate on the truth that Christ lives in our heart. And isn’t it true that the only right response to Christ’s resurrection is to give your life as a living sacrifice to Him every moment?Slowly they traveled to the tomb. Grief hangs as black as deepest night. They have come to mourn Jesus’s death; But the dark is shattered by light! Chorus: Jesus lives what a glorious day! Jesus lives why do you still weep? God is here! Christ arose, and He dwells with you. Give your life to honor His name! Death claims a soldier of the cross. Don’t weep as though it were the end. Comfort draws from words filled with hope. You will meet your loved ones again. Christ will return in glorious light. Angels and men will join to sing. All our griefs are slain by delight. When the Lord is crowned as our King.

Hales.Text:The Great Sacrifice (based on Alma 34 in the Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ) The Law of Moses long foretold,The coming of a Messiah Lord,The Son of God who would pay the priceThrough His redeeming sacrifice. Through this gift, infinite and great,We come to Him with love and faith. On the cross He justice paid,And fulfilled all cov’nants made. No sacrifice of beast or fowl,No human offering can or shall,Bring redemption’s healing grace,Or lead us to the Savior’s face. Only Jesus Christ the Lord,Only in the power of His word,Can He in mercy offer all,The ransom needed for the Fall. What little sacrifice is mineThat I may connect with God divine?A humble spirit, a broken heart,Are what He asks to be my part. One cup of water, one piece of bread,Remembering Jesus, whose blood was shed,In the Garden so long ago, Overcoming all death, and woe. CodaThanks to our merciful Eternal GodFor His sacrifice, infinite and great.

By Journey. Arranged by Karen Peterson. Sheet Music Single, Solo Part. 6 pages. Published by Karen Peterson
Your audience’s memory of this Eighties rock anthem by Journey will be playing along in their head—from the original album, a live performance, The Sopranos, Glee, karaoke, or all of the above. But they’ve never heard it before on a harp.<br> <br> This arrangement makes good use of the double-strung by using both sides for repeated notes and letting the accompaniment hand overlap the melody. The result is beautiful but still ballsy.<br> <br> Range and key: F major (one flat). 23x2 strings. C below middle C through D.<br> Lever changes: None.<br> <br> Good for: Weddings, parties, performance, therapeutic settings.<br> <br> Double-strung effects: The LH accompaniment frequently overlaps the RH melody range. Finger placements are suggested for playing echoed notes with alternating hands to work around or emphasize ringing strings. Since the alternate-hand echoing is not required, it’s a great piece to learn this technique on.<br> <br> Characteristics: Arpeggios and a syncopated melody. The RH never places more than an octave spread; the LH places 1-9 twice. There are a few four-note chords (LH 1-3-5-8); the rest of the chords are three notes, usually not inversions. The RH has almost no chords. There are two bars of sixteenth notes that can easily be substituted for eighths. The LH has two long-run patterns (1-5-8-9-10 and 1-5-8-9) which can be played with cross-unders or a wandering thumb. The RH has only two cross-overs.<br> <br> Finger placement: Finger number suggestions are provided for key phrases. Numbers above the notes are suggestions for the RH (marked with “R” or “R#” when they occur in the bottom staff). Numbers below the notes are suggestions for the LH (marked with “L” or “L#” when they occur in the top staff). To see what I mean, view the PDF of finger placement examples in “Don’t Stop Believin’: www.EnjoyTheHarp.com/s/dont-stop-believin-notes-enjoy-the-harp.pdf<br> <br> Notation: Chord symbols and lyrics are provided. Treble clef in both staves. To avoid switching between bass clef and treble in the accompaniment, 8vb lines are used for the low Cs, Ds, and Es (which means that you play an octave below what’s written). Low Fs use 8vb sometimes, so if you see a lot of low ledger lines, don’t worry: it’s that F below middle C. Instead of counting the lines, you can look at the chord symbols to confirm.<br> <br> Length: 6 pages. 106 measures. 4:00–5:00 minutes, depending on tempo.<br> <br> Page turns: If you are printing, double-side pages 2-3 and 4-5 to minimize page turns. Line breaks have been made with printed or single-page-tablet turns in mind; you can pick up some accompaniment notes in the RH to turn with the LH.<br> <br> Analysis and performance notes at www.EnjoyTheHarp.com/dont-stop-believin

2 Fl. 1 Ob. 1 Ob dbl CA. 2 Cl in Bb. 2 Hn in F. 2 Bsn. - Intermediate - Digital Download SKU: F2.FM611 Composed by Liz Sharma. A wind dectet written in Indian Ragas. Score and parts. 30 pages. Forton Music - Digital #FM611. Published by Forton Music - Digital (F2.FM611). ISBN 9790570485109.'Ragmala' (meaning 'A garland of ragas) concerns the passing of a day, and is written in Indian ragas. Indian classical music is largely improvised according to the strict rules of melody (raga) and rhythm patterns (tala). The Indian scale is Sa Ri Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni Sa. A little like tonic sol-fa on that Sa can be pitched on any note the main performer chooses. However, whereas any note in Western classical music can be natural, sharp or flat, in Indian music Sa and Pa are only allowed to be natural, Ri, Ga, Dha and Ni can be flattened but never sharpened, whilst Ma can be sharpened, but never flattened. A raga (of which there are hundreds all with different names), is a cross between a scale and a melody, based on combinations of notes, and only the fixed notes of the raga can be used. Some ragas have a different order of notes when ascending or descending. Each raga is supposed to express the mood of a particular time of day, or season. There is a different concept of harmony in Indian music, as chord based harmony does not exist. Groups of classical musicians in India tend to be smaller, with most players playing different versions of the main melody. The harmony is formed by the rising and falling melody against a drone-like bass. in 'Ragmala' I have followed the rules of the ragas, but in a manner foreign to most Indian classical musicians, as I have allowed harmonies to form between the ten individual lines.
