Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1257962 Composed by Guillaume de Machaut, 1300-1377. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Chamber,Contest,Early Music,Festival,Historic,Medieval. 85 pages. Jmsgu3 #851199. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1257962). 1. Kyrie2. Gloria3. Credo4. Sanctus5. Agnus dei6. Ite missa estGuillaume de Machaut composed the Messe de Nostre Dame, also known as the Mass of Our Lady, in the early 1360s. He wrote the mass for the Cathedral at Reims, where he served as a canon, a permanent clergy member. According to a rubric found at the Cathedral, it would have likely been performed for the Saturday Lady Mass. Guillaume de Machaut's Messe de Nostre Dame is significant in the history of music for several reasons: It is the first complete setting of the Ordinary of the Mass by a single composer that has survived. It is a unified mass, meaning that the composer selected relevant chants for each section as the borrowed tenor. It was composed in four voices, which was unusual at the time. The texts of both Gloria and Credo are quite lengthy, and therefore Machaut set these movements in a style reminiscent of the earlier discant style, having short phrases, similar rhythmic motion in all parts, and a low ratio of notes per syllable of text, both ending with long, rhapsodic sections for the final word, Amen. Machaut's Messe de Nostre Dame is a landmark in musical history, but it is far from being avant-garde merely for the sake of uniqueness. It is considered to be a culmination of the musical style of the Ars Nova period, which was characterized by complex polyphonic textures and rhythmic innovations. The mass is also significant because it was composed during a time of great political and social upheaval in Europe, and it reflects the changing attitudes towards religion and music during this period. Overall, Machaut's Messe de Nostre Dame is a significant work that represents a culmination of the musical style of the Ars Nova period and reflects the changing attitudes towards religion and music during the 14th century. The mass consists of five movements: Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei, followed by the dismissal Ite, missa est. The tenor of the Kyrie is based on Vatican Kyrie IV, the Sanctus, and Agnus correspond to Vatican Mass XVII, and the Ite is on Sanctus VIII. The Gloria and Credo have no apparent chant basis, although they are stylistically related to one another. The mass is a unified mass, meaning that the composer selected relevant chants for each section as the borrowed tenor. The Messe de Nostre Dame is significant in the history of music because it is the first complete setting of the Ordinary of the Mass by a single composer that has survived. It is also significant because it was composed during a time of great political and social upheaval in Europe, and it reflects the changing attitudes towards religion and music during this period. Overall, the Messe de Nostre Dame was an important part of the liturgical practices of the time, and it is still regarded as a masterpiece of medieval music and of all religious music.

Soloistss (SATB), mixed choir (SATB) and piano - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q560929 Eine Lieder-Reihe für Solostimmen und Chor mit Begleitung des Pianoforte. Composed by Friedrich Gernsheim. Downloadable, Score (also performing score). Duration 42 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q560929. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q560929). German.

Zoran Radanovic #692865. Published by Zoran Radanovic (A0.1088658). I made this arrangement for most famous song from ex Yugoslavia and from Balkan. I wrote for two Bb trumpets and with lyrics. Ovaj aranzman sam napravio za najpoznatiju pesmu iz bivse Jugoslavije i Balkana. Napisao sam ju za dve Bb trube i tekstom.SA PARTITURAMA. Tamo daleko is a Serbian folk song which was composed on the Greek island of Corfu in 1916 to commemorate the Serbian Army's retreat through Albania during World War I. It is played in triple metre and begins solemnly in a minor key before switching to the relative major of the dominant key in the third line of the first verse, symbolizing hope before returning to the tonic minor key from the beginning. The lyrics to the song come in multiple versions, all of which end with the line long live Serbia!

No, not really:  no saxophones, no rhythm section, no Milt Bernhart, no Maynard Ferguson, no Bill Russo, no Conte Candoli, no . . .  Well, you get the picture.  But five brass instruments can play in the Kenton style.  And that’s what this is:  “The Peanut Vendor†in the style of the Stan Kenton Orchestra.   Moisés Simons’ “El Manisero†(“The Peanut Vendorâ€) was first recorded in the late 1920s.  The melody was relatively simple yet exotic sounding; the lyrics, a Cuban street vendor’s pitch for selling his bags of peanuts.  Consumers bought more than a million copies of the sheet music, and the song supposedly led to a “rumba craze†in the U.S. and Europe (although the song is not really a rumba!).     Don Azpiazú and his Havana Casino Orchestra recorded the song for RCA Victor in 1930 with Antonio MachÃn on the vocal; its sales may well have been more than the million-plus sheet music copies sold.     English lyrics were added by L. Wolfe Gilbert and Marion Sunshine and the song became “The Peanut Vendor.† One estimate is that nearly 200 recordings have been made.  That’s a lot of peanuts.    Stan Kenton revived “The Peanut Vendor†in 1947 when he first recorded it for Capitol Records.  His version was completely instrumental.  Rhythm and saxophones opened the number and established the background; later the trombone section added emphasis.  A trombone solo first stated the melody but eventually the five-person trumpet section took over with what one writer referred to as “shrieking dissonances.† “The Peanut Vendor†subsequently became one of Kenton’s most requested numbers and he recorded it at least three more times.   This brass quintet arrangement, of course, has access to only two trumpets.  So the good news is that all five players get a chance with the melody.  Kenton’s extended opening trombone solo is shared by Trombone and Tuba.  The “shrieking dissonances†are performed not only by Trumpets but also by Horn in F and Trombone.  The bad news is that all five players have to take a turn with the continuing rhythmic background melody.  Written in 4/4 time, the suggested tempo is 184 BPM in a Latin style.  Kenton’s version is in B-flat major; this arrangement lowers it to A-flat major so that most notes are within the normal playing range of the instruments.  (Don’t worry; the “shrieking dissonances†are still there!)     Completed in 2023, performance time runs about 3 minutes, 37 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge.  He would like to receive your suggestions, comments, corrections and criticisms.  For more arrangements by Les, enter Sweetwater Brass Press (without the quotation marks) in the Sheet Music Plus or Sheet Music Direct search box.  (Also, purchase of this piece entitles you to your choice of another of his arrangements at no charge; send a copy of your purchase receipt directly to him at lessmith61@bellsouth.net.).

English â?¢ German.Music of iron and bronze, appropriate to its Trojan War settingâ??of fanfares and percussion tattoos, but with plangent windows of orchestral and vocal beautyâ??Tippettâ??s second opera is unlike his first in every respect except that of the immediacy and fullness with which it portrays the feelings and predicaments of a variety of characters. We understand the warmth and anxiety of Andromache, the majestic command of Hecuba and the erotic charge that runs through Helenâ??the Trojan women who come together at the start of the third act, and who double as the goddesses among whom Paris has to choose at the end of the first. We understand, too, the varieties of blindness and determination inside the male characters who dominate the central act, set on the Trojan plain. Chief among them are Achilles, singing with the vehemence but also the tenderness of a hero, and the troubled Priam, whose tragedy this essentially is, a tragedy multiplied many times over, because it brings about those of so many others. That central, determining tragedy results from Priamâ??s decision to sacrifice his young son Paris and thereby go against his instincts, a decision he takes to forestall a prophesy that Paris will bring about his death. Everything that takes place thereafter unfolds on this battleground between necessity and desire, a battleground on which there can be no conquerors, only casualties.(Paul Griffiths)2 Flutes (doubling 2 piccolos), Oboe, Cor Anglais, Clarinet, Clarinet in Eb, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, Contrabassoon, 4 Horns in F, 4 Trumpets, 2 Trombones, Tuba, Timpani, Percussion (3 players): Snare Drum, Bass Drum, Cymbal, Wood Block, Tambourine, Triangle, Tam-tam, Xylophone; Harp, PIano (doubling Celesta), Guitar, Strings (6.0.4.4.2 minimum).

German. Picc. · 3 (3. auch Picc.) · 3 (3. auch Engl. Brass Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.767421 Composed by Mike Lyons. Concert,Contemporary,Standards. Score and parts. 73 pages. Lyons Music Services #3860115. Published by Lyons Music Services (A0.767421). Titans: This is a piece inspired by the mythological Titans, who were deposed by the Greek God Zeus, who exiled them and founded the Olympian tradition. The titans were created by the mating of Uranus (Heaven) and Gaea (the Earth). Gaea and Uranus were themselves created from Chaos (the Void). There were many Titans. Cronus, often mistaken for the god of time, was their leader, their brother and the father of their children. Cronus mated with his sister Rhea to produce the gods Zeus, Hades and Poseidon. Cronus was given a prophecy that he would be deposed by his children, so he forced Rhea to give her children to him when they were born whereupon he ate them. She managed to deceive him and hid Zeus, the youngest male child, away. Zeus eventually freed his siblings, by making Cronus vomit to bring them back to the world and thus he became the oldest. The other gods were persuaded to make Zeus their leader and together they deposed Cronus and defeated the Titans in a war (the Titanomachy) that lasted for many years. Zeus and the other gods were not able to kill Cronus, so he exiled him and all of the other Titans in a place called Tartarus, which was part of the underworld, where Cronus would have no access to power of any kind. The music is based mostly on the opening chords, which recur again and again, representing Tartarus and also Cronus and all of his children in one form or another. Melodic material throughout is shaped by the chords and their progressions and I have applied simple transformations – for example, in the last section I have shaped the motifs by applying a snippet of a Fibonacci sequence and overlaying the result in different parts like a canon. I decided to use this because the Fibonacci sequence is representative of nature and the growth of life so it links to Gaea, who represents the creative force. Obviously, Cronus, Gaea, Chaos, Zeus, Hades, Poseidon and Tartarus are all represented here, but so too are Oceanus, Phoebe, Mnemosyne and The Titanomachy (The war of the Olympians against the Titans). The piece finishes with a reprise of the opening chords, which have transformed into a less bleak soundscape, with Cronus and the other Titans safely locked away in Tartarus. This is a difficult and challenging piece demanding a high level of skill from all players. it uses a number of dramatic effects and will stretch any ensemble.I am looking into making a version of this piece for Brass Quintet.Watch te score playing here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2w7dUmJh5k4

Large Ensemble Cello,Double Bass,Drum Set,Guitar,High Voice,Low Voice,Piano,Xylophone - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1013064 Composed by Christine Southworth. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 61 pages. Airplane Ears Music #5802121. Published by Airplane Ears Music (A0.1013064). Zap! (2005, 45 minutes) for Van de Graaff Generator, Lyricon, voices, guitar, cello, bass, percussion, piano, robotic xylophone and electronics. The sound of electricity at its rawest and most majestic - sparks, booms, lightning bolts, sizzling corona and low hums from giant motors - intermingle with the sounds of cello, bass, guitar, piano, clarinets, percussion and voice. Christine Southworth created Zap! in 2004 to explore these possibilities, using the Boston Museum of Science's Theater of Electricity as her venue and instrument. Its centerpiece - MIT Professor Robert Van de Graaff's eponymous Generator, was born in 1931 as one of the world's largest atom smashers. It is still the largest of its kind in the world, standing forty-feet tall and producing up to 1.5 million volts of electricity. Zap!, a composition in seven parts, takes the sounds of this machine, two large Tesla Coils, and a Jacob's Ladder, merged with rock rhythms and sweet melodies performed by Robert Black, David Cossin, Felix Fan, Philippa Thompson, Eddie Whalen, & Evan Ziporyn. The resulting music is ... electrifying!Premiered February 4, 2005 at Boston Museum of Science by Ensemble Robot, Jeff Lieberman (guitar), Blake Newman (bass), Sachi Sato (keyboard), Mei-mi Lin (keyboard), Akili Haynes (percussion, voice), Erik Nugent (Lyricon, voice), Rebecca Zook (cello), Christine Southworth (voice, Van de Graaff controls), Leila Hasan (Van de Graaff controls), Giles Hall (robot controls).About the ComposerChristine Southworth (b. 1978) is a composer and video artist based in Lexington, Massachusetts, dedicated to creating music born from a cross-pollination of sonic ideas. Inspired by intersections of technology and art, nature and machines, and musics from cultures around the world, her music employs sounds from man and nature, from Van de Graaff Generators to honeybees, Balinese gamelan to seismic data from volcanoes. Premiered at Lincoln Center Out of Doors Festival, August 13, 2010 by Kronos Quartet and Gamelan Elektrika: Evan Ziporyn, kendang; Sean Mannion, kempli; Balaji Mani, ceng-ceng; Laurel Pardue & Sachi Sato, pemade; Katie Puckett & Sam Schmetterer, kantilan; Mark Buckles, Ramon Castillo, Elizabeth Johansen, Julie Strand, reong; Beth Mullins & Po-Chun Wang, pokokGamelan Elektrika is an electronic virtual gamelan designed and developed by Alex Rigopulos (founder and CEO of Harmonix Music, inventors of video games Guitar Hero and Rock Band). The piece is inspired by the Large Hadron Collider at CERN - the largest machine ever built, that's purpose is to change science forever, recreating the beginning of the universe in a tube and proving (or disproving) the theories of particle physics of the last half-century.Particle physics is the unbelievable in pursuit of the unimaginable. To pinpoint the smallest fragments of the universe you have to build the biggest machine in the world. To recreate the first millionths of a second of creation you have to focus energy on an awesome scale. - The GuardianSuper Collider will explore two obverse sound worlds and traditions, the vast culture of the string quartet juxtaposed with the ancient performance methods of a gamelan, unleashed through the unlimited sonic universe of electronics. In our own test-tube experiment, this musical moment of collision will hopefully achieve similarly unparalleled results. What does particle physics have to do with music and art? String theory, which the CERN facility hopes to verify or disprove, presumes that matter itself is the manifestation of resonant vibrations, that the world itself is a universal harmony. This post-modern notion - which Kronos embodies with every performance - itself resonates with the ancient Hindu notion of om, the absolute manifest, which is the basis of Indonesian gamelan. We will bring these two ideas of resonance together by combining Kronos with a gamelan - even a virtual one.The behavior of subatomic particles is probabilistic, group-oriented: the motion of any one particle is unpredictable and unknowable: it's what the group does that counts. This could also be a description of the Balinese gamelan, where individual virtuosity is subsumed to interlocking patterns, composite melodies, the sound of the whole. This is also the spirit of Kronos. When Robert Moog developed his synthesizer in the 1960s, he modeled its functionality on the piano and on western music in general - a single person, sitting at a keyboard. This is one reason why it was popularized by Wendy Carlos' Swtiched On Bach. Gamelan Elek Trika takes a similar approach to the very distinctive musical practices of Indonesia. Like the great gamelans of Bali and Java, Gamelan Elek Trika works as a single unit, played by a complete ensemble. The instruments are played like a gamelan - metallophones, drums, and gongs, playing interlocking patterns - but all are channeled through a central 'brain', a single processing unit which controls their sound, tuning, and timbre. The composer can thus alter the sonic environment globally, not just for one instrument at a time but for the complete ensemble.Super Collider is made possible by generous support from Alex Rigopulos and Sachi Sato, MIT, and the MIT Media Lab. Gamelan Elektrika instruments produced by Alex Rigopulos; sensors, electronics, and interface design by Andrew Boch, Matt Boch, and Laurel Pardue; technical assembly by Stéphanie Bouchard; frame design and assembly by Quentin Kelly.About the ComposerChristine Southworth (b. 1978) is a composer and video artist based in Lexington, Massachusetts, dedicated to creating music born from a cross-pollination of sonic.

Tuba, Euphonium, Tuba Quintet - Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Glenn Miller. Arranged by Keith Terrett. 20th Century, Jazz, Swing, Old-time. Score, Set of Parts. 8 pages. Published by Music for all Occasions
Moonlight Serenade" arranged here for Tuba Quintet, is an American popular song composed by Glenn Miller with subsequent lyrics by Mitchell Parish. It was an immediate phenomenon when first released in May 1939 as an instrumental arrangement and was adopted as Miller’s signature tune. In 1991, Miller’s recording of "Moonlight Serenade" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.<br> <br> The song, recorded on April 4, 1939 on RCA Bluebird, was a Top Ten hit on the U.S. pop charts in 1939, reaching number three on the Billboard charts, where it stayed for fifteen weeks. It was the number 5 top pop hit of 1939 in the Billboard year-end tally. Glenn Miller had five records in the top 20 songs of 1939 on Billboard′s list.<br> <br> In the UK, "Moonlight Serenade" was released as the A-side of a 78 on His Master’s Voice, with "American Patrol" as the B-side. The recording reached number twelve in the UK in March 1954, staying on the chart for one week. In a medley with "Little Brown Jug" and "In the Mood", "Moonlight Serenade" reached number thirteen on the UK charts in January 1976, in a chart run of eight weeks.<br> <br> The recording was also issued as a V-Disc, No. 39A, in November 1943.<br> <br> The recording used a clarinet-led saxophone section, which is widely considered[citation needed] the classic Glenn Miller style. Miller studied the Schillinger technique with Joseph Schillinger, who is credited with helping Miller create the "Miller sound", and under whose tutelage he himself composed "Moonlight Serenade".<br> <br> The song evolved from a 1935 version entitled "Now I Lay Me Down to Weep", with music by Glenn Miller and lyrics by Eddie Heyman to a version called "Gone with the Dawn" with lyrics by George Simon, and "The Wind in the Trees" with lyrics by Mitchell Parish. In his biography of Glenn Miller, George T. Simon recounted how vocalist Al Bowlly of the Ray Noble Orchestra sang him the Eddie Heyman lyrics to the Glenn Miller music of "Now I Lay Me Down to Weep" in 1935. The Noble Orchestra never recorded the song. Finally it ended up as "Moonlight Serenade" because Robbins Music bought the music and learned that Miller was recording a cover of "Sunrise Serenade", a Frankie Carle associated song, for RCA Victor. They thought "Moonlight" would be a natural association for "Sunrise".<br> <br> "Now I Lay Me Down to Weep" was composed in 1935 with lyrics by Eddie Heyman and music by Glenn Miller. After "Moonlight Serenade", originally released solely as an instrumental, became a smash hit in 1939, Mitchell Parish wrote new lyrics for the music under that title.<br> <br> A notable vocal version can be found on Frank Sinatra’s Moonlight Sinatra released in 1965, which also contains "Moon Love", "Moonlight Becomes You", and "Oh, You Crazy Moon", which were recorded by Glenn Miller and his Orchestra.
