Flute,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533397 Composed by Therese Brenet. Concert,Contemporary,Standards. Score and part. 30 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #2894443. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533397). A sonata in three movements for flute and piano: I. EphémèreII. La lune s'éteignitIII. Miroirs The sonata lasts aproximately 13 minutes. Thérèse BRENET, born 22 October 1935 in Paris, France began her musical studies at a very early age, receiving her first prize in Piano from the Conservatoire de Reims. At the Paris Conservatory, her prinicipal teachers were Jean Rivier, Darius Milhaud, Maurice Duruflé, Noël Gallon and Henri Dutilleux and she obtained First Prizes in Harmony, Counterpoint, and Fugue. She finished her studies in 1965, receiving a First Prize in Orchestration, A First Prize with highest honors in Composition and the First Grand Prix de Rome in musical composition. She also won the Halphen Prize for Composition and the Fugue, a grant from the Coplay Foundation of Chigaco and was named honorable member of the National Academy of History of Reims. In 1971, she received the Stéphane Chapelier-Clergue-Gabriel Marie Prize from the SACEM and in 1973, the Silver Medal from the City of Paris. After her stay at the French Academy at the Villa Médicis in Rome, Thérèse Brenet undertook several post-graduate voyages for study, notably to Poland. Upon her return in Paris in 1970, she was immediately named to the Faculty of the Paris Conservatory (CNSMD de Paris) where she also was frequently part of the juries for music theory and composition, as well as electroacoustical music.Thérèse Brenet receiving her definitive SACEM membership from Georges Auric She retired from the Paris Conservatory in 2000 and has since devoted her time to musical composition. She uses both tonal and atonal musical language, which she uses to suit her personal style. Her works are strongly influenced by literature, by painting and by science (especially astronomy). She believes that a composer should use all technical means at his or her disposal and use them rather than be used by them. Her first commission from the French National Radio, Clamavit, for Narrator, Chorus and Orchestra which was premièred by the Orchestre Lyrique de l'O.R.T.F., under the direction of André Girard, with Michel Bouquet as the Narrator, was selected to represent France in the Composer's Forum of 'U.N.E.S.C.O., and was performed in many countries. Many other works have also been performed outside of France in countries such as Switzerland, England, Germany, Belgium, Ireland, the former Yugoslavia, Italy, Portugal, the Netherlands, Libya, Canada, Uruguay, Japan and the United States etc...

Flute and orchestra - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q49450 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Wolfgang Birtel. This edition: piano reduction with solo part. Flute - Orchestra - teaching repertoire - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Schott Student Edition - Repertoire. Downloadable, Piano reduction with solo part. Duration 5 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q49450. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q49450). Key: C major. German • English • French.Even though Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791), admittedly, was no fan of the flute, he wrote unforgettable music for this instrument 'that I can't stand': two concertos, a double concerto with harp, the original version of the Wind Concertante and the four flute quartets. Commissioned by the Dutch physician and amateur musician Ferdinand Dejean, Mozart wrote his two solo concertos in 1777/78 during a stay in Mannheim. As the middle movement of the Concerto in G major KV 313 supposedly was too difficult for the client – with regard to the playing technique and/or music – the composer wrote an alternative version, 'Andante' KV 315 (285e). This nice individual movement is now presented in a carefully edited new edition, with a cadenza of the editor – a serenade-like setting that offers the soloist many possibilities for cantabile playing. About Schott Student EditionThe Schott Student Edition gathers instrumental works for music lessons providing a unique and varied repertoire resource including standard teaching works, lesser known pieces which are perfectly suited to lessons as well as to student concerts and competitions. The repertoire is divided into levels 1-5, from very easy to difficult, and includes works from the Renaissance up to modern performance pieces. Each title is graded, from very easy works for beginners up to demanding pieces for more advanced students who are preparing for further study or examinations.Every work in the series has been carefully selected and edited by experienced music teachers. The editions also contain a wealth of information on the pieces as well as useful advice on studying, rehearsing and interpreting the works. The first titles to be published in the Schott Student Edition series contain works for violin, violoncello, flute, clarinet and recorder. Further editions are in preparation.

Flute,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549486 Composed by Felix Mendelssohn (1809 –1847). Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Instructional,Romantic Period,Sacred,Standards. Score and part. 20 pages. Jmsgu3 #3500637. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549486). CONCERT FLUTE & PIANO - Score: 11 pages, solo part: 3 pages, piano part: 5 pages. Duration: 4:20. This is a popular recital piece that would work well also in church or school programs. Mendelssohn Background Felix Mendelssohn (1809 –1847) was, by all means, a German mastermind composer, musician, and orchestra conductor of the Romantic period. Consequently, Mendelssohn composed in the usual forms of the time - symphonies, concertos, oratorios, piano music, and chamber music. To summarize, his most famous works include his music for A Midsummer Night's Dream, the Italian Symphony, the Scottish Symphony, The Hebrides Overture, his later Concerto for Violin & Orchestra, and his Octet for Strings. His most well-known piano pieces, by and large, are the Songs Without Words. Artistic Standing  Musical tastes change from time to time. Moreover, just such a change occurred in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This plus rampant antisemitism brought a corresponding amount of undue criticism. Fortunately, however, his artistic inventiveness has indeed been critically re-evaluated. As a result, Mendelssohn is once again among the most prevalent composers of the Romantic era. Early Family Life Mendelssohn was, in fact, born into a prominent Jewish family. His grandfather was, notably, the philosopher Moses Mendelssohn. Felix was, in fact, raised without religion. At the age of seven, he was suddenly baptized as a Reformed Christian. He was, moreover, a child musical prodigy. Nevertheless, his parents did not attempt to exploit his talent. Early Adulthood Mendelssohn was, in general, successful in Germany. He conducted, in particular, a revival of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, specifically with his presentation of the St Matthew Passion in 1829. Felix was truly in demand throughout Europe as a composer, conductor, and soloist. For example, he visited Britain ten times. There, he premiered, namely, many of his significant works. His taste in music was. To be sure, inventive and well-crafted yet markedly conservative. This conservatism separated him by all means from more audacious musical colleagues like Liszt, Wagner, and Berlioz. Mendelssohn founded the Leipzig Conservatoire which, to clarify, became a defender of this conservative viewpoint. Mature Adulthood Schumann notably wrote that Mendelssohn was the Mozart of the nineteenth century, the most brilliant musician, the one who most clearly sees through the contradictions of the age and for the first time reconciles them. This observation points to a couple of features in particular that illustrate Mendelssohn's works and his artistic procedure. Musical Features In the first place, his musical style was fixed in his systematic mastery of the style of preceding masters. This being said, he certainly recognized and even developed early romanticism from the music of Beethoven and Weber. Secondly, it indicates that Mendelssohn sought to strengthen his inherited musical legacy rather than to exchange it with new forms and styles or replace it with exotic orchestration. Consequently, he diverged his contemporaries in the romantic period, such as Wagner, Berlioz, and Liszt. Mendelssohn revered Liszt's virtuosity at the keyboard but found his music rather insubstantial.

Flute,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549429 Composed by Antonin Dvorak. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Instructional,Romantic Period,Sacred,Standards. Score and part. 12 pages. Jmsgu3 #3494181. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549429). Score: 7 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 3 pages. Duration: 4:25. Not difficult, but requires sensitivity & dynamic control. Suitable for recitals, church meditations, or school programs. Dvořák Background AntonÃn Dvořák (1841 –1904) was, of course, a composer from Czechoslovakia. As a matter of fact, he was among the first Bohemian composers to attain universal recognition. It is important to realize that the late Romantic Nationalist period featured composers who used traditional and folk elements to portray the character of their nation. In particular, we see this in the music of Grieg (Norway), Finland (Sibelius), and Smetana (Bohemia).  Dvořák relied markedly on rhythms and other characteristics of Moravian and Bohemian folk music. Ascent to Fame Dvořák was truly a child musical prodigy on the violin. The premiere performances of his compositions notably occurred in 1872 and 1873. He submitted his First Symphony in particular to a German competition, but it failed to win. Consequently, in 1874 he presented two more symphonies to the Austrian State Prize for Composition. Johannes Brahms was the principal of the jury and was accordingly very impressed. They forthwith awarded the prize to Dvořák in 1874, 1876, and 1877. At this point, Brahms thereupon endorsed Dvořák to the publisher Simrock. Later, the publisher commissioned Dvořák to compose the Slavonic Dances, Op. 46. These became popular overnight and, as a result, Dvořák's worldwide status was launched. International Status Dvořák visited England upon invitation nine times. On each visit, he frequently conducted performances of his own compositions. He conducted concerts of his music, especially in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Eventually, the Prague Conservatory in fact appointed Dvořák as a professor. There, to be sure, he wrote his famous Dumky Trio. United States Consequently, the National Conservatory of Music of America appointed him as director in 1892. As a result, Dvořák composed his two most famous symphonic works: the Symphony No. 9 (From the New World), which spread his name universally, and his Concerto for Cello and Orchestra, one of the most famous of all cello works. Moreover, he wrote his most celebrated American String Quartet during this time. At the same time, because of his growing recognition in Europe and his homesickness for his own country, he left to return to Bohemia in 1895. Â

Variations on "Non piu mesta" for Flute and Piano

Flute,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.866120 Composed by Gioachino Rossini, Frederic Chopin. Arranged by Yoon Jae Lee. Instructional,Opera,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and part. 31 pages. Ondine Press #5377025. Published by Ondine Press (A0.866120). This is a piano reduction to Yoon Jae Lee’s arrangement, Variations on “Non più mesta†for flute and orchestra. The full score and set of parts are available separately. Rossini's aria from La Cenerentola Non più mesta has been a popular theme since it was first composed and is one of his most recognized tunes. Many paraphrases and variations were written on it in the 19th century for various instruments including one for violin and orchestra by Paganini. One set of variations for flute and piano is attributed to a young Chopin, who is said to have composed it for his father. For this arrangement, the variations have been expanded with an introduction and coda from the opera. A newly written orchestral accompaniment in the style of Chopin and Rossini was made along with interludes between the variations to allow the soloist to rest. The result is a new 10 minute showpiece for flute and orchestra in the same vein as Chopin's Variations on La ci da rem la mano and Rossini's variations for clarinet and orchestra. The flute part from the variations has not been altered so it is hoped that this new compilation will be a welcome addition to the solo flute repertoire. Flute,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1025532 Composed by Douglas Knehans. Contemporary. Score and part. 68 pages. Armadillo Edition #4823081. Published by Armadillo Edition (A0.1025532). **** ...wonderfully orchestrated... dynamic and endlessly evolving...-BBC Music MagazineTempest is a flute concerto and takes its idea from the movement of the wind around the world, and the 'deeper aspects of the human condition, the human experience, thought, reflection, psychology and emotion'. The turbulent opening is immediately arresting. and one can imagine the swirling wind flowing around powerfully. Pulsing rhythms and captivating brass lines reinforce this sense of power, before the mood breaks into a more gentle duo moment for flute and harp. Knehans' orchestration is imaginative and full of colour, making effective use of different timbral combinations and creating a transparency of texture through the use of solo lines from around the orchestra. The flute part is dazzling and takes centre stage with a sense of charismatic virtuosity. Challenging and exhilarating throughout, the first movement has the sort of energy one might associate with the opening movement of the lbert concerto, but intensified and developed to reflect the 21st century flute and the modem world. The second movement has a greater sense of stillness, and the flute line weaves around relatively static strings, low woodwind. Despite the stillness, an underlying intensity gives the music a brooding feel; this is music that deals with profound ideas, and as such, it is vital that the music, too, has depth. Knehans has achieved this convincingly; this is a piece which demands attention and holds you in its spell. The final movement is full of rhythmic punchiness and fantastic orchestral energy. The scoring is once again highly imaginative, making use of bassoons and low brass in pounding rhythms punctuated by the strings. Over all of this, (flutist) Gareth Davies astonishes and dazzles; displaying not only a phenomenal technique but also a magnetic energy and charisma which is spellbinding . I would not be exaggerating to say that this is one of the best flute recordings I have heard for a long time.An impressively vibrant compositional voice. Unmissable.Carla Rees-Pan The Official Journal of the British Flute Society

Chamber Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.772375 Composed by Gabriel Faure. Arranged by Amir Awad. Concert,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and parts. 49 pages. Amir Awad #3506351. Published by Amir Awad (A0.772375). This piece is originally composed by Gabriel Fauré for Flute and piano , and it is arranged for Flute and String OrchestraThis elegant solo has some beautiful melodic lines and is Impressionistic in form and harmony. An excellent teaching piece to emphasize phrasing and musicality, or a great programming choice when a lovely lyrical moment is needed! This famous work is dedicated to Paul Taffanel, often called the father of the modern French school of the flute. He was a busy man, active at the Opéra de Paris, in the Conservatoire concerts, as the leader of the Orchestre de la Société des Instruments à Vent, and, from 1893, as a professor at the Conservatoire. Fauré was appointed professor of composition there in 1896, and it was almost inevitable that Taffanel should ask him, in the spring of 1898, to write a sight-reading piece (the Morceau de lecture) and a concours composition for the July examinations. Fauré decided to pass the orchestration of his incidental music for Maeterlinck's play Pelléas et Mélisande, on which he had been feverishly working, to his pupil Charles Koechlin, so he could get to grips with the concours piece. The Fantaisie for flute and piano occupied him from the beginning of June until at least mid-July.The piece opens with an E-minor sicilienne of great charm, but soon gets to a C-major Allegro filled with lightning-fast pyrotechnics. Writing to Koechlin, Fauré complained:I am drowned in the Taffanel and plunged up to my neck in scales, arpeggios, and staccati! I have already perpetrated 104 bars of this irksome torture The first performance of the Fantaisie was given by the concours winner, Gaston Blanquart, on July 28, 1898.

Flute,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549473 Composed by Alexander Scriabin. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Concert,Instructional,Romantic Period,Sacred,Standards. Score and part. 12 pages. Jmsgu3 #3499833. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549473). Score: 8 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 2 pages. Duration: 3:10. An introspective and meditative work with a lot of dynamic and phrasing nuance. Works well for church meditations or recital encores.BackgroundOp.11/2 Alto Clarinet version. First of all, Scriabin composed mostly for the solo piano and also the orchestra. This is probably because he was a gifted pianist and therefore certainly appreciated the piano. Scriabin grew up in the late Romantic period, consequently, he was fond of the great piano masters of the time. As a result, he wrote his first noteworthy compositions in the manner of Chopin and Liszt.FormsLikewise, Scriabin used many of the same forms as Chopin. These certainly include the étude, prelude, nocturne, and even the mazurka. In contrast, as he developed his own sense of style his music became more and more unusual. So, the last five of his Piano Sonatas do not have a key signature and therefore lean towards atonality.PhilosophyScriabin also developed a keen interest in philosophy and likewise poetry. He was above all particularly fascinated by Nietzsche, Delville, and Blavatsky. Consequently, he finally established his own ideas about metaphysics and certainly mysticism. Scriabin consequently advanced theories about the relationship between color and musical keys.SynesthesiaHe also may have experienced a condition called synesthesia where he could probably sense a response created from a different stimulus. Therefore, it was almost as if he could see music and hear colors. Scriabin, therefore, arranged the colors in a circle similar to the circle-of-fifths and assigned each key area a color. Finally, he assigned the key of C to the color red, while the key of G was orange. Similarly, he assigned D to yellow, A to green, and so forth. Strangely, he did not differentiate between major and minor key colors. MultimediaHence, his ability to translate colors into music certainly gave Scriabin a most noteworthy interest in creating multimedia events. Furthermore, He designed his biggest work, the Mysterium, to last an entire week. Even more, Scriabin made plans not only for music, but also colored lights, incense, and dancing. He designed the performance to occur in the foothills of the Himalaya mountains. The Mysterium was never performed, and only sketches of the work remain.Modern PerformancesIn modern times, we often experience performances of Scriabin’s most famous completed works accompanied by colored laser lights and incense. These are the Poem of Ecstasy (completed in 1908) and the Poem of Fire (completed in 1910). The lighting effects for these early performances were accomplished by the clavier à lumiéres. It was a keyboard instrument that projected colored light onto a screen.

Score and part. 12 pages. Diego Marani #5178425. Published by Diego Marani (A0.528180). Beethoven’s two romances for violin are the closest of siblings: No. 2 is in F Major, while No. 1 is in G Major. Both were dedicated to the same violin virtuoso, Ignaz Schuppanzigh. Musically, No. 2 shares the stately pace and singing quality of No. 1, as well as its rondo structure, which allows Beethoven to repeat the theme with additional material at each iteration. Some listeners hear the melancholy of lost love in this romance’s languorous melody, while others hear a more philosophical musing, poetic and contemplative.Originally composed for violin and orchestra, this arrangement is a faithful transcription for flute and piano.

Flute,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1015016 Composed by Vasil Belezhkov. Contemporary,Folk,World. Score and part. 6 pages. Vasil Belezhkov #5041133. Published by Vasil Belezhkov (A0.1015016). 'Cradle song' is the 4th movement of 'The Gold-fingered' Suite for kaval & orchestra written in 2011. The composition won 2nd award at the 11th 'International composition competition for symphonic work in 7/8' where it was premiered by soloist Kiril Belezhkov (the composer's brother) and New Symphony Orchestra in Sofia (see the YouTube link). It was also one of the works by Belezhkov for which he had won the 'Creative activity' cathegory of the 'Musician of the year 2011' vote of the Bulgarian National Radio. At the ceremony held at the National Palace of Culture it was performed again but in chamber version - kaval (Kiril Belezhkov again), 2 guitars (one of them performed by Vasil Belezhkov) and string quartet (consisted of NSO members who already had played the original orchestral score). Later the composer did this one version for flute and piano and Kiril (who is flutist as well) edited the ornaments in the solo part. This version is yet to be performed.
