Key maps are intended to SHOW you (visually) which keys to play by matching (mapping) the locations of the keys on the keyboard. >>> The group of 12 keys from Middle C up to B form what we call the green Octave Group. (There are 7 of these identical groups on the piano distinguished by their colors and locations.) The key map staff is based on an octave group of the keyboard. For each key map octave group, the 5 vertical lines of the staff stand for the 5 matching black KEYS. >>> Staff lines ARE SPACED to match the horizontal spacing of the black keys on the keyboard The notes for black keys are placed ON these staff lines. The notes for the white keys are placed BETWEEN the lines. >>> The notes of a key map move to the left and right to indicate change in PITCH and down the page to indicate the passing of TIME (rhythm). Prelude 7 in Eb Ionian from 24 Preludes for the Piano in Major and Minor Modes by composer Brian Golden  The creative concept in writing these preludes is to provide a link to past preludes written for the keyboard, and in particular to the works of J.S. Bach and Frederic Chopin, whose works stand as essential repertoire for any student of the piano.  Using Bach’s and Chopin’s examples, my goal was to compose in all twenty-four keys, yet offer my own variation on the progression of key signatures – Bach’s being a pattern of major to parallel minor progressing chromatically through all keys, and Chopin’s a pattern of major to relative minor keys progressing clockwise through the circle of fifths.  In order to expand my harmonic and melodic possibilities, I have included the modal keys rather than only the major and harmonic minor keys, and have chosen to work counterclockwise through the circle of fifths, which is a more natural harmonic progression.  Therefore, all major preludes resolve from one to another V-I, as well as do all the minor preludes.  While there are seven modal scales, I decided to leave out the locrian modes for the following reasons.  First, due to the diminished fifth, the locrian mode cannot be thought of as either major nor minor.  Second, the locrian mode did not have a relative key to pair with, since there were no other keys with the identical characteristic notes.  In creating the key architecture, I determined that there was only one solution to pairing major and relative minor scales based on a shared parent key and characteristic note - ionian/aolian, mixolydian/phrygian and lydian/dorian.  This specific order of modal scales is the only order that would enable composing in all twelve key signatures.  Finally, the inspiration for each prelude came from playing through several other preludes in the same keys - mostly by Bach and Chopin - and letting their themes and styles influence me in the writing of my own.YouTube.

The contrasting second idea has a tonal bass line progression below a chromatic figure. The 3/8 time signature gives the piece a quasi-swing feel.Prelude 2: Pray-ludeThis prelude alternates between F major and Gb major, with slow reflective melodic statements over sustained roots. The statements gradually become shorter and shorter until the recapitulation.Prelude 3: Pre-lewdThis whimsical prelude uses a five-note synthetic scale throughout (1, m3, P4, m6, M7), but the scale modulates in a pattern that suggests a standard 16-measure blues progression. There is a repeating figure in the bass using the same modulating scale.Prelude 4: Prelude SolitudeThis slow prelude in 7/4 time has an ostinato bass line that never varies. The six notes of the bass line (Eb, E, F, Ab, A, Bb) form a synthetic scale from which the entire piece is derived.Prelude 5: Pre-ludicrousThis prelude uses the same six-note synthetic scale throughout (C, Eb, E, G, Ab, B). Bach completed the 24 preludes and fugues that make up the first book of the Well-Tempered Clavier in 1722 in Cöthen, where much of his other important instrumentalchamber music was written. The twenty-four segments go through all of the major and minor keys, with an prelude which explores a single texture or figuration and a contrasting fugue in either 2, 3, 4 or 5 voices. In this arrangement, the different voices are either shared by the four instruments or, in the case of the five voices of the Fugue in Bb minor, implied through arpeggios in the alto and tenor voices. Care must be taken to make these implied chordssound through discretely sustaining these voices through resonance.The preludes are generally in relatively free improvisatory forms which explore different types of baroque devises, including italianate keyboard figuration, “arioso†ornamented melodies with ostinato accompaniments, and more abstract forms. Two of the preludes are especially notable: the stately harmonic progression of the First prelude in C major, one of Bach’s most well-known works, and the gigantic prelude and double fugue of the Eb Major prelude.The fugues represent an exploration of all styles, ranging from the Ricacare in the Fugue no. 4 in c# minor and the use of augmentation, canon and inversion in no. 8 in Eb minor.

This prelude was included as number 5 in his Opus 23, a set of ten preludes for solo piano. Rachmaninoff himself premiered this prelude in Moscow in 1903, along with Preludes 1 and 2 from this set. It begins with quiet yet decisive sixteenth note figures setting the mood for a minor march. Following this, the relative major Eb comes in full force expanding this sixteenth note figure with a descant-like melody. After a return to g minor, the energy of the opening march dissipates as a new lyrical melody takes the forefront, accompanied by sweeping arpeggios. This section is much melancholier than before. As this theme fades, the march returns slowly out of the mist that the previous section created. It builds to the return of the Eb major section that leads into a continuation of the march theme. This fades into a quick rising figure to finish the prelude. This arrangement captures both the energy of the march and the beauty of the lyrical middle section.
