Choral Choir (4-Part) - Digital Download SKU: A0.885590 Composed by Michael E. Ekbladh. Christian,Contemporary,Jewish,Sacred,Spiritual. Octavo. 203 pages. Michael E. Ekbladh #32723. Published by Michael E. Ekbladh (A0.885590). The Psalms speak to us through centuries of despair and hope. Just as todayâ??s believers use the psalms to express their faith, so did the believers of centuries past. Originally titled I Cry to Thee, this work was commissioned by the Brazos Valley Chorale in the spring of 1998 and was first performed with choir and piano in May of the same year. This is the recording you will hear. The orchestration followed six years later in the spring of 2004 with the first full performance on May 23, 2004. Mass for the Soul possesses five structural elements from the psalms of lament: the address (and introductory petition), lament, confession of trust, petition, and vow of praise. It is this structure that forms the five movements. The way out of the depths begins in the possibility of prayer and the awareness that only the One who hears that prayer can draw us out of the depths. So the self that is caught in its iniquities cries out because of the need for forgiveness and because with God forgiveness is possible. [Interpreting the Psalms by Patrick Miller] Choral Score also available (MEE9800CS).

The Steadfast Heart: Psalms 1-4

Easy Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.968673 Composed by Nicole Doran. 20th Century,Christian,Jewish,Sacred. Score. 6 pages. Nicole E Doran #6304191. Published by Nicole E Doran (A0.968673). The Steadfast Heart, a psalm cycle for advancing musicians is a pedagogical work of art and a journey of faith. It sets into sound the faith of a Messianic Jewish classical musician who wants to pass along all that she has learned of faith and music to her children and the next generation of God-fearing musicians. Mastering the keyboard step by step helps you understand the miracle of harmony. Melodies refresh the soul and many tones blending together show the wonder of unity in diversity; this is true of all music. However, meditating on the psalms as you play helps you understand the way Christ and all the faithful have looked to the Father in Heaven as their guide and protector as you delight in the musical sounds you can produce.Dr. Doran includes accessible verses from the NIV and some lines of the poetry that challenge modern ears and sensibilities. Sweet melodies, imitative counterpoint, modal and tonal harmonization and register shifts prove that an intermediate pianist can savor the artistry for the level they have achieved and still thirst for more musical and spiritual goodness to come just like David longed for the Lord’s presence and fullness. As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul longs after You, O God. Thousands of people are trying to hear or memorize ALL the Psalms in these confusing and uncertain times. What safer way to explore than in the shelter of your practice time until you are ready to share your favorites with others. Here is a method to use the instrument we have in our homes and be a participant in this wonderful musical journey from Psalm 1-150. Each new set should be released in January, April, August, and December.

Melodies to the Lord (A Collection of 10 Hymns for One Octave Handbells with Piano accompaniment)

Small Ensemble Bells,Handbell,Handchime,Piano Accompaniment - Level 2 - Digital Download

Small Ensemble Bells,Handbell,Handchime,Piano Accompaniment - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.565864 By Sharon Wilson. By Various. Arranged by Sharon Wilson. Children,Easter,Holiday,Instructional,Sacred. Score and parts. 94 pages. Sharon Wilson #6285355. Published by Sharon Wilson (A0.565864). The title of this collection was inspired by the words found in Ephesians 5:19 (KJV) -- Speaking…in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord… This collection contains 10 hymns arranged for a one octave, 13-note chromatic scale Handbell choir with Piano accompaniment. For each song, the Piano provides an introduction then the Handbells play the melody and occasional 2-part harmony. Most songs include an optional repeat and second ending in case a longer song is desired. For each song, there is a combined score with both instruments (Handbells and Piano) on a grand staff plus two separate scores for the Handbells (one in standard format with black and white notes and the second with color-coded notes). The color-coded scores are enlarged so the colors are easier to distinguish and all sharps and flats are displayed (shown in the key of C) as reminders for beginning ringers. A color-coded note chart is also provided for each song which shows the Handbell notes used as well as the number of times each note is played. The note distribution is helpful when assigning notes to ringers. You may want to assign fewer notes to beginners or evenly distribute the bells between all ringers. As noted above, one of the Handbell scores for each song is color-coded for easier note reading for beginning ringers. These separate color-coded scores use the Chroma-Notes™ Colored Music System. If you have a set of Handbells with a different color scheme, Chroma-Notes Stick Ons can be purchased and applied so the Handbells match this color scheme. The number of ringers needed will vary depending on the skill level of the participants. For more advanced players, each person could be assigned two or three notes. For beginners, it is best to assign one or two notes to each person. Note assignment suggestions are included for each song and range from 4 to 9 ringers. These familiar hymns are perfect for small groups and especially beginning ringers. Most songs can be performed with as few as 5 people (4 ringers and 1 piano player). The Piano accompaniment is written for an intermediate player.Permission is granted to make up to 10 copies of each score. For more than 10 copies, please purchase additional sets. Each song is also available separately with accompanying preview pages and audio samples. Theme and Variations-Accompaniment Track, Dan CutchenTime: approximately 6:00And Can It Be That I Should Gain? is a Christian hymn written by Charles Wesley. And Can It Be was written in 1738 to celebrate Wesley's conversion, which he regarded as having taken place on May 21 of that year. This beautiful hymn has been popular and enduring. And Can It Be That I Should Gain is perhaps one of the most joyfully poignant hymns penned by Charles Wesley (1707-1788). On Whitsunday (Pentecost), May 21, 1738, three days before his brother John experienced his heart strangely warmed,’ Charles was convalescing in the home of John Bray, a poor mechanic, when he heard a voice saying, In the name of Jesus of Nazareth, arise, and believe, and thou shalt be healed of all thy infirmities. The voice was most likely Mr. Bray’s sister who felt commanded to say these words in a dream.Anglican hymn writer Timothy Dudley-Smith, notes that the following then happened:Charles got out of bed and opening his Bible read from the Psalms: He have put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God, followed by the first verse of Isaiah 40, Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. He wrote in his journal, I have found myself at peace with God, and rejoiced in the hope of love Christ (Dudley-Smith, 1987, 1).The statement from Mr. Bray’s sister sparked within Charles a conviction like he had never felt before. Moved and convicted in spirit, Charles wrestled with these words until he came to rest in his faith, knowing that it is by faith we are saved (Ephesians 2:8).Soon after this conversion experience, he wrote two hymns in celebration of the amazing love he had come to know: And Can It Be that I Should Gain and Where Shall My Wondering Soul Begin? (United Methodist Hymnal, 342)There has been some debate as to which hymn was written first, but most current scholarship accepts the latter as the first hymn written by Charles after his conversion experience. No matter its place in the chronology of Wesley's output, And Can It Be has been and remains one of his most remarkable hymns, expressing like no other the rapturous joy of receiving salvation. And Can It Be That I Should Gain. Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1172085 Composed by Charles H. Gabriel. Arranged by Todd Marchand. 19th Century,Christian,Sacred,Traditional. 16 pages. Con Spirito Music #772348. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1172085). Higher Ground (I'm pressing on the upward way) is a 19th-century American gospel song with lyrics by Johnson Oatman, Jr. (1856-1922) and music by Charles Hutchinson Gabriel (1856-1932).Both Oatman and Gabriel were prolific writers. Oatman, an ordained Methodist Episcopal minister employed primarily in retail and insurance work, is said to have written over 5,000 hymns and songs in the latter 30-some years of his life.  Although not a talented singer nor recognized as an outstanding preacher, he was acknowledged to have ministered to countless souls through the words of his hymns and songs.Gabriel, a Methodist Episcopal church music director and editor of gospel song books, anthem collections, music instruction manuals, and more, is said to have written between seven and eight thousand texts and/or tunes under his own name and several pseudonyms. In addition to the music for Higher Ground, he composed the music for such well-known gospel songs as His Eye is on the Sparrow and Will the Circle Be Unbroken? The opening line of Oatman’s text (I'm pressing on the upward way) draws especially from Philippians 3:13-14: “Forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.†Other sources include passages from the prophets Isaiah and Micah and the Psalms of Ascent (120-134). Gabriel's music cleverly evokes the upward vision of the text with an ascending arpeggio spanning an octave on the first words of the refrain (Lord, lift me up) and the matching of the highest notes of the tune to the words a higher plane. This arrangement for brass quintet expands the meter of the tune from 3/4 to 4/4 to allow for some countermelodic call-and-response by various voices in the ensemble. Every member will enjoy a lyrical part to play in this arrangement, which is fitting as a prelude, offertory, or special musical selection in worship, and ideal as a lyrical selection on recitals. ©Copyright 2023 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP).
