Apparently the song by Young that spurred Lynyrd Skynyrd to write SWEET HOME ALABAMAwas the one titled simply ALABAMA, which is on the album HARVEST. Also interesting was the information that the bands and composers did get along, even showing this by wearing each other'st-shirts when performing.This arrangement is advanced grade 3 or grade 4, with no extreme playing in the outer registers,or meter changes, etc.. The optional percussion can be added to create a more solemn-march feel.The socio-political element is not varied or diffused in any way. If possible, the complete lyricsshould be contained in program notes. This piece offers a serious contemplation of the history andhorror of Slavery in America.

Trumpet Folk Fill in the Blank is a book of thirty folk songs and nursery rhymes. Each song is presented first in an easy key, like C, F or G. Then it is transposed to other keys and certain strategic notes are left out. Those notes are replaced by question marks. The students are to practice the first version of the song until they get the sound of the melody in their ears. After they master the first version, then they are ready to play the fill in the blank versions of the songs in other keys. We use a total of seven key signatures in this book, up to three flats and three sharps. Any student who knows their scales up to three flats and three sharps should have a lot of fun playing these fill in the blank songs. Benefits of playing the fill in the blank songs include ear training, finger technique, sight reading, phrasing and tone.

Was I ready to leave this world behind? My auntie didn't get to decide. One moment she was here. The next she was gone, leaving her children behind. As I looked at myself I noticed there were a lot of flaws in my character. I liked some things about myself, however, there were a lot of other character traits where I felt that I was lacking in integrity and honesty. However, the mysterious will still persist. Every new perception leads to further questions, new secrets are rising for being explored. Moreover, someone might perceive that in relation to the entire knowledge gained by mankind, the individual is shrinking. Thus, until the end of time the world will stay mysterious - the world seems to be a persistent secret, that wants to be discovered at all times anew.The musical motif of the Question begins with the very first sound of the piece - a dissonance that is harmoniously resolved again. This motif reflects the curiosity that lies dormant in all people. The dissonance creates a tension that can be seen as an impetus for the search for answers. The resolution to a major chord describes the confidence of being able to find an answer to the question. This musical motif runs through the entire work, both in the dreamy bliss of being and in the dramatic passages in which the flood of questions seems to become frightening. In such sections, the dissonance is turning into a minor chord. At the dramatic climax, a tense dominant seventh chord leads to the resolution to major, which finally describes the euphoria after the answer of a very difficult question. After a further phase of relaxation, the gaze wanders over nature in all its glory. Until towards the end of the piece, the awareness finally sets in that every answer found raises a new question and thus the mystery remains forever.The PDF contains the score and all parts, already multiplied accordingly for a common number of musicians in a concert band. New Zealand-based music teacher and folk music compiler Neil Colquhoun claimed to have collected the song around 1966 from one F. R. Woods. Woods, who was in his 80s at the time, had allegedly heard the song from his uncle. it was attributed to one D.H. Rogers. It has been speculated that Rogers was the uncle of Woods and that Rogers had worked as a teenage pirate or shore whaler in the early-to-mid 19th century, composing this and another song in his later years and eventually passing them on to his nephew as an old man. Nathan Evers recorded the work in 2021 during the COVID pandemic and it became a viral sensation with house-bound Tik-Tokers sparking a whole re-introduction of sea shanties in what was termed Shanty-Tok. This string quartet arrangement gives all instruments a chance at the melody, and adds the affectation of a foot-stomp and a shout at the ends of verses. The history of whaling in New Zealand stretches from the late eighteenth century to 1965. In 1831, the British-born Weller brothers Edward, George, and Joseph, who had emigrated to Sydney in 1829, founded a whaling station at Otakou near modern Dunedin in the South Island of New Zealand, seventeen years before Dunedin was established. The Weller brothers had on their voyage to New Zealand brought in the 'Lucy Ann' (the Weller brothers' barque) a good deal of rum and a good deal of gunpowder. From 1833, the Weller brothers sold provisions to whalers in New Zealand from their base at Otakou, which they had named Otago in approximation of the local MÄori pronunciation. The song's lyrics describe a whaling ship called the Billy o' Tea [Note: a billy is a pot in which water is boiled to make tea or coffee] and its hunt for a right whale. The song describes how the ship's crew hope for a wellerman to arrive and bring them supplies of luxuries. According to the song's listing on the website New Zealandfolk Song, the workers at these bay-whaling stations (shore whalers) were not paid wages, they were paid in slops (ready made clothing), spirits and tobacco. The chorus continues with the crew singing of their confidence that the tonguin' will be the last step of their plight. Tonguing in this context refers to the practice of cutting strips of whale blubber to render into oil. Subsequent verses detail the captain's determination to bring in the whale in question, even as time passes and the quartet of whaling boats is lost in the fight. In the last verse, the narrator conveys how the Billy o' Tea is still considered locked in an ongoing struggle with the whale, with the wellerman making his regular call to strengthen the captain and crew.
