PREFACEThese eight suites for solo recorder are amongst the relatively fewcompositions by Daniel de Moivre that have survived for us through the centuries.Not very much is known of the life of this composer, except that hewas a French Huguenot, the younger brother of the well-known French mathematician Abraham de Moivre, with whom he movedfrom France to England after their imprisonment in France for being protestants, and it is recorded that they both became denizens ofGreat Britain on 16/12/1687. It seems that both brothers earn their livings mostly by teaching in their respective subjects for the rest of their lives. Daniel de Moivre had early training in France in recorderand composition, and in England he was known as one of the bestrecorder players at the time, together with Paisible, Banister Loilet and others.The solo suites that follow are of moderate technical difficulty andform a good basis for advancing the recorder technique to higher levels. But primarily are well made baroque dance tunes that can beused for both study and recreation.All ornaments are marked as trills starting usually on the upper note,but some of them can be interpreted as mordents or inverted mordents. There are quite a few baroque-rondeau movements withinthese suites, marked with double bar lines but without repeats.Repeats are optional here, and it depends on personal aesthetics. I find the following scheme of playing baroque- rondeau movements quite satisfactory: AA-BB-A-CC-ALegato marks and other slurs were not included in the original andare left to the performer’s decision.All tempi are only editorial suggestions which can be ignored to a reasonable degree.This volume has been created with decorated and undecorated pages and with individual front covers for each suite so that the user can add or omit pages at will and create his own book designs.The mp3 sample contains various movements from all suites.Socrates ArvanitakisLondon 2021.

All music evokes memories and classical pieces are no exception. Many piano students have wondered what prompted Edward MacDowell to write "To a Wild Rose." Listening to "The Swan" from Carnival of the Animals by Saint-Saens, so tender, helps us channel our inner ballet dancer. "Evening Prayer" from Engelbert Humperdinck's opera Hansel and Gretel recalls the story of two scared children lost in a forest. And it's no surprise that the melody of Alexander Borodin's "Polovetsian Dance No. 1" was a perfect fit for the popular song "Stranger in Paradise" from the Broadway musical Kismet.
About the arranger: Brenda Dillon is best known for her contributions to the Recreational Music Making movement. She served on the RMM Committee that designed the RMM Track for MTNA's Pedagogy Saturday. She also presented group piano and RMM sessions throughout the U.S. In addition to serving as a teacher trainer, she has written extensive articles on both group piano and RMM teaching. She has publications with Hal Leonard and Alfred Music listed on her website (www.brendadillon.com).

In my adaptation of a work originally composed in 2002 for eight-voice choir, violin and violoncello, I was particularly interested in recreating the tonal spectrum of the three extended vocalises (sung by the choir) for the piano in my new version for piano trio. While the piano part had to accommodate the entire choral texture, the parts for violin and violoncello remained almost unaltered. This was however not a mere transcription: above all, I significantly expanded the ecstatic climax occurring towards the end of the version for choir, which expresses a vision of dawn breaking and the awakening of nature with its profusion of birdsong. This is a gig or church service-ready arrangement of Kari Jobe and Cody Carnes's "The Blessing" for string quartet. A great addition to your gig book for weddings or your musical catalog for worship/church bands that feature strings. Included with the quartet score and parts is a slash/chord lead sheet if you wish to perform this with along with guitar, piano or full band.
The form follows pretty much exactly what is on the "Radio Version" of this tune, although you may cut and/or loop the repeated sections in order to tailor it to the performance time that you require. I have also taken the liberty of transposing this from the original key of B into the much more string and band-friendly key of C (you're welcome, cellists.) While I've added a couple fun harmonics and just a bit of "rhythmic interest" into some of the inner parts, I would describe this chart as 100% sight-readable for most professional players, and still well within the technical capability of high school or recreational ensembles with just a bit of practice.
Performance time - approximately 4:30 with repeats taken, 3:30 if you skip the verse/chorus repeat. Lots of other exit/entry points can be easily incorporated at most of the rehearsal marks.

Included with the quartet score & parts is a slash/chord lead sheet if you wish to perform this with along with guitar, piano or full band.The form follows Hillsong's live version all the way through Chorus 3. It does not include the recap/vamp of the bridge and 4th chorus, but you can loop back on the chart from letter G to letter E if your performance requires a longer rendition. I have also taken the liberty of transposing this from the original key of F# (...oof) into the much more string & band-friendly key of G (and your purchase is all the thanks I need). I've added a few small flourishes, dynamic drops, and general instrumental interest throughout this arrangement, but would still describe this chart as sight-readable for professional players with experience playing pop/rock tunes. It's also well within the technical capability of high school or recreational ensembles with just a bit of practice, but if your violist hasn't ever seen a ghost note printed on a chart before, I would highly recommend taking 10 minutes to look it up...Performance time - approximately 3:20 straight through, longer if you loop back to the bridge like Hillsong Worship's live version. Published by Erik Cole (A0.996130). This is a transcription of the complete Pictures at an Exhibition for double reed choir. It is all in the original keys and based on the well-known Ravel orchestration, which is quite difficult. As a result, this arrangement is even more challenging. It is designed with at least 2 players per part in mind, and all of the oboe and bassoon parts are divisi throughout. The attached MP3 recordings are multi-track recordings of me playing all the parts. This was, by far, the most daunting recording I have put together for any of my arrangements, and I apologize for any minor imperfections in timing or pitch. In many places, this really stretched the limits of what I am capable of on bassoon. The original orchestration for this very famous movement is enormous. As a result, it's exhausting to play a reduced transcription, cause, except for the chorales, I pretty much needed all the instruments all the time. It's especially exhausting if you've played the whole rest of the piece first. That aside, I think this does a pretty good job of recreating the Ravel orchestration.

The bravery of two scared children lost in a forest being comforted by fourteen angels surrounding them evokes a powerful emotion.About the arranger: Brenda Dillon is best known for her contributions to the Recreational Music Making movement. She served on the RMM Committee that designed the RMM Track for MTNA's Pedagogy Saturday. She also presented group piano and RMM sessions throughout the U.S. In addition to serving as a teacher trainer, she has written extensive articles on both group piano and RMM teaching.
