Sing a New Song is a setting for SATB choir and piano with text from Psalm 98. Written for the composer's church choir in 1997, it has been a favorite of the his choirs ever since. It is not difficult and should be within the realm of most church choirs. The most challenging element is keeping the diction clean.

A Billings Triptych - for 8-Part Brass Choir
Brass quartet : 2 trumpets, trombone, tuba
Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1030615

Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1030615 Composed by William Billings. Arranged by Mike Allsen. Classical,Praise & Worship,Renaissance,Sacred,Spiritual. Score and parts. 41 pages. Aaron Hettinga #636010. Published by Aaron Hettinga (A0.1030615). William Billings (1746-1800) was North America’s first great choral composer. He spent most of his life in Boston, working at various times as a tanner or as minor civic official, and occasionally as a church musician. Billings seems to have had little formal music training, but when he was just 22, he also set himself up as an itinerant singing-master, teaching “singing-schools,†where children and adults could learn the rudiments of musical notation and solfege. To feed the market he and other singing-masters had helped to create, Billings published six collections of music, mostly for SATB voices, The first of these, The New England Psalm-Singer (1770) featured a frontispiece engraved by his friend Paul Revere. Billings was fairly prosperous by 1780s, but his good fortune faded in the 1790s. His final collection of music, The Continental Harmony of 1794, was published for his benefit by a group of Boston friends. Billings died destitute in 1800. Billings composed some 340 pieces, mostly collected in his printed editions. This music has a rough-edged and sturdy beauty that is distinctly different from anything in contemporary Europe. The vast majority of Billings’s works were hymns or “psalm tunes.†He was particularly attracted to the great English hymn-writer Isaac Watts (1674-1748), though Billings himself wrote verses for many of his hymns. One of the most famous Billings “psalm tunes,†Chester is not a Christian hymn, but rather a patriotic song of defiance directed against the British. Billings spent nearly all of the Revolutionary War in Boston and made no secret of his patriot sentiments. Chester was first published in 1770, but when he republished it in his The Singing-Master’s Assistant during the height of the war in 1778, Billings added a verse calling out the “infernal league†of the leading British generals Howe, Burgoyne, Clinton, Prescot and Cornwallis. Many brass-players will know Chester from the finale of William Schuman’s 1957 band piece A New England Triptych. Billings also composed over 50 “fuging-tunesâ€â€”a genre that usually included a short introduction and a repeated contrapuntal section. (These fuging sections usually begin with imitation, but they are otherwise not at all like classical fugues written in Europe at the time.) The fuging-tune Creation is one of his later works, published in The Continental Harmony of 1794, and experiments with the form. It sets two verses of the Watts hymn “When I With Pleasing Wonder Stand†though final line of verse 1 is repeated in a striking phrase that suddenly moves twice as fast (m.15). The fuging section begins in m.30, and rather than the usual exact repeat, Billing writes an entirely new and more elaborate second section beginning at m.44. Billings first published the simple but beautiful Africa in 1770, and published a revised version in 1778; the later version appearing with the Isaac Watts hymn “Now Shall My Inward Joys Arise.†I first arranged Africa in 1995, for the Glenwood Moravian Trombone Choir (Madison, WI), and I edited it for this publication. Phrasing and articulations marked here reflect the original vocal texts. Africa has long been a favorite of the Glenwood group. Chester and Creation were arranged in 2022. Mike Allsen February 2022.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.980859 Composed by Joseph Coslet, Richard N. Shorten. Arranged by Richard N. Shorten. Christian,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Octavo. 8 pages. Shorten Studio Utah #3578911. Published by Shorten Studio Utah (A0.980859). SATB with organ (2 staves). Text by Richard Alldridge, 1815-1896, additions by Richard N. Shorten. This is used as a sacrament song in the LDS church, mentioning the bread and water, the resurrection, and giving praise to Jesus for his sacrifice on Calvary's hill, etc. Doctrinally fits most Christian churches' beliefs. The organ adds a very unusual element to this arrangement in its 16 measure introduction and throughout the work-almost adding a traditional folk music sound. Verses 2, 3, & 4 have new melodies. The interlude/bridge between verses 2 and 3 is also a new melody which is then repeated on the new verse 5 while Alldridge's original melody is sung below it. This work is somewhat difficult because the singers are not supported by the organ.

Guitar,Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.935513 Composed by Shaun Parry. A Cappella,Christian,Christmas,Traditional. Score. 7 pages. MusicforMillions #4995115. Published by MusicforMillions (A0.935513). Written in the style of classic Christmas carols with fun, memorable melody and lyrics, this new Christmas song will quickly become a part of your caroling tradition. By and large, Christmas music is either sacred or secular -- about Jesus, Mary, the shepherds and angels or about presents and parties and mistletoe. We live them both simultaneously. This carol represents that, with the first verse being a patter of Christmas excitement and the second more lyrical focusing on the advent of the Savior. Then, just as in life, they are sung together, complimenting each other. We end in unison with a glorious and memorable refrain Nativity mangers make friends out of strangers with peace on earth, good will to all men. This song has the potential to become a regular part of Christmas carol canon sung by millions around the world.* Perfect for school or church Christmas concerts. * Great for families around the fireplace or out caroling.* Bells/Chimes add a beautiful touch but it can also be performed with just piano and voices or even a capella. I have even enjoyed singing to guitar or ukulele.* Written to be sung by two groups, however, there is a cut version (explained in print) that does not require splitting. It can be sung straight through without overlapping the verses.* Some harmony parts are indicated in the vocal line. Of course you can sing the melody in unison all the way through, but there are ample opportunities to break out into fun 2,3 and (in some places) 4-part harmonies. Up to you.You can find me at @the_shaunparry or www.shaunparry.com

Christchurch Alive! - Brass Band Major WorkPlaying level : Suitable for bands of all levelsParts for British Brass Band, and transposed options for Bass clef Trombone/Euphonium/Baritones/Tubas and Horns in F.Christchurch Alive! was written for the Nor'west Brass Band in 2017 by Dale Vail as the own choice work for their first New Zealand National Brass Band Contest in 2018.Christchurch Alive! is a testimony to the spirit of the Christchurch Community, and their resilience to the life changing earthquakes of 2010 and 2011. The piece is built around the harmonic circle of fifths. The circle of fifths is famous for being a common harmonic pattern in both baroque and classical music, and jazz and modern music. Most influentially used by Arcangelo Corelli, the pattern appears commonly in the Johann Sebastian Bach's music, and the works of Antonio Lucio Vivaldi. In the modern age, it is most famously heard in Joseph Kosma's Autumn Leaves. Dale's piece takes the two sides of this famous progression, and links them into one seamless piece of music, symbolising the union of two eras making something new, much like pre-earthquake culture, and new post-earthquake culture, joining together to create a new community. The work opens with a traditional style melody, utilising a modern minor 7th tonality. Tubular bells sound 5 times, a clock tower striking 5am marking the first hour after the first earthquake. The band explodes into a New Orleans style street band theme, showing the nightlife and central city vibrancy that still exists amongst the repairs. This swaps to a Vivaldi inspired melody, using the same circle of 5ths progression, a blend of two different times, old and new buildings forming one city. A solo voice from offstage begins a cadenza, echos of a busker in the old arts centre markets, which brings one intoA nostalgic melody from the flugel. A reflection on what used to be. The circle of fifths becomes a I - V progression, stuck on a continuous loop, illustrating a longing to remember, and to restore what was. The circle begins to move forward again with a solo trombone taking the stage, a reflection on the late night jam sessions from the Christchurch Jazz School on Poplar lane. A Sibelius inspired melody reminds that whilst the past is remembered, it cannot be revisited. The flugel melody is re-harmonized, remembering what made the old Christchurch great, and taking that with us to the new Christchurch. All the themes are revisited and brought together in a vibrant ending, a hybrid of different communities, restored and new landmarks, and a resolve to make the future their own.The city is thriving and more alive than ever.

Bass/baritone voice solo, violoncello and organ - Moderately Easy - Digital Download SKU: MQ.6593-E Composed by Gwyneth W. Walker. 21st century, prayer. Score. 19 pages. Duration 10 minutes. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #6593-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.6593-E). English. The three songs Welcome Love (Ubi caritas), Make Me an Instrument of Thy Peace, and Gaelic Blessing are interconnected motivically yet distinct in meter, tonality, and message. These three songs are interconnected motivically, yet distinct in meter, tonality, and message. Peace and reverence flow throughout. The songs are for a bass-baritone. Commissioned in 2003 by David Arnold, a North Carolina bass-baritone who is a soloist in the 80-voice Chancel Choir at Centenary United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. Mr. Arnold premiered these songs at Centenary with organist Ray Ebert and cellist Jennifer Alexandra Johnston on February 27, 2005. A new version for voice and piano was created in 2005. A transposition for lyric Baritone was added in 2015, commissioned by Ferris Allen (Baritone) and Linda Holzer (Pianist) of Little Rock, AR.The lyrics for Ubi Caritas are based on a new translation, by Christopher Brunelle, of the traditional Ubi Caritas Est Vera. A recurrent image in this translation is the gesture of welcoming: welcoming love, welcoming God, welcoming the friendly unfamiliar thought, welcoming Christ with us. The musical interpretation of welcoming is stepwise motion, either up or down, around a pitch center. Perhaps this might be heard as an opening of the door, or an opening of the heart. An interlude leads to the second song, Make Me an Instrument of Thy Peace, a musical setting of the Prayer of Saint Francis. The accompaniment is sparse, with material reminiscent of the welcoming pattern in the first song. This song alternates between triple meter for the thematic sections (Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace) and duple meter for the more recitative sections (O Divine Master...). The music ends as it began, with simple open fifths accompaniment, this time filling in the chords to express the fullness of the lyrics born to eternal life.A second interlude provides the bridge to the third song, Gaelic Blessing. The text for this song is a series of blessings for peace. The gentle chordal arpeggiations in the piano are intended to provide a peaceful accompaniment. [Once again, the stepwise intervals and recurrent regular rhythms relate to the first song.]In keeping with the simplicity and repetition of the text, the music is formed by a series of four-measure phrases (blessings). The blessings are similar in contour, each spanning an interval of a fourth. Growth is achieved through repetition and some dynamic contrast. However, the principal aesthetic of this song is constancy and gentle flow. Only at the end of the song, when the voice descends into the deep range, is the melodic contour altered, and dynamic contrast introduced. As the voice ends on low tones, the piano line rises, perhaps to the source of peace.Duration: 10 min.

Regis Bookshar #6537757. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813846). Largo (from Symphony No. 9 in E minor) (From the New World) (Db) (Woodwind Ensemble) - Intermediate - Digital Download. This marvelous arrangement of the Largo, based on the second movement of Antonin Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 in E minor, would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services, especially Funerals, but would be appropriate any time during the church year. This arrangement is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (24 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from the The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time.Symphony No. 9 in E minor, Op. 95 (subtitled From the New World and popularly know as the New World Symphony), was composed by Antonin Dvorak in 1893 while he was the director of the National Conservatory of Music of America from 1892 to 1895. It premiered at Carnegie Hall in New York City on December 16, 1893 and has been described as one of the most popular of all symphonies. The second movement of the symphony, upon which this arrangement is based, is marked Largo, and begins with a harmonic progression of chords which is then followed by a solo instrument playing the famous main theme.Dvorak was interested in Native American music and the African-American spirituals he heard in North America. While director of the National Conservatory he encountered an African-American student, Harry T. Burleigh, who sang traditional spirituals to him. Burleigh, later a composer himself, said that Dvorak had absorbed their spirit before writing his own melodies. Dvorak stated:    I am convinced that the future music of this country must be founded on what are called Negro melodies. These can be the foundation of a serious and original school of composition to be developed in the United States. These beautiful and varied themes are the product of the soil. They are folk songs of America and your composers must turn to them.He further explained how Native American music influenced his symphony:  I have not actually used any of these (Native American) melodies. I have simply written original themes embodying the peculiarities of the Indian music, and, using these themes as subjects, have developed them with all the resources of modern rhythms, counterpoint, and orchestral colour. In 1893, a newspaper interview quoted Dvorak as saying, I found that the music of the negroes and of the Indians was practically identical, and that the music of the two races bore a remarkable similarity to the music of Scotland. Most historians agree that Dvorak is referring to the pentatonic scale, which is typical of each of these musical traditions.Dvorak was influenced not only by music he heard, but also by what he had seen, in America. He wrote that he would not have composed his American pieces as he had if he had not seen America. It has been said that Dvorak was inspired by the wide open spaces of America, such as the prairies he may have seen on his trip to Iowa in the summer of 1893. Notices about several performances of the symphony include the phrase wide open spaces about what inspired the symphony and/or about the feelings it conveys to listeners. The theme from the Largo was adapted into the spiritual Goin' Home (often mistakenly considered a folk song or traditional spiritual) by Dvorak's pupil, William Arms Fisher, who wrote the lyrics in 1922. Regis Bookshar thought it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists could have the opportunity to play this beautiful melody, so, he has created this version for a Woodwind Ensemble. Parts included with the purchase are a 1st Flute, a 2nd Flute, a 1st Oboe, a 2nd Oboe, a 1st Clarinet in Bb, a 2nd Clari.
