CHINESE RHAPSODY No.3 For Saxophone & Wind Orchestra (without Arpa) , Op.46 [Score] - Score Only
Woodwind Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1073229 Composed by An-lun H…

Woodwind Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1073229 Composed by An-lun Huang. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Multicultural,Traditional,World. 33 pages. DoReMi Edition #677492. Published by DoReMi Edition (A0.1073229). Chinese Rhapsody No.3 was composed e in Toronto, Canada , 1988. Huang dedicated the piece to the Canadian Saxophonist Paul Brodie who premiered it in Parry sound of Ontario in the same year. Written in Saibei Folk Style, the music is divided into 5 movements without stop. As usual, Huang didn‘t use any folk song . But the typical taste of Huang’s “Zhang Jia Kou[張家å£] accent†is pretty easy to be identified. With the concert virtuosity, the 1st movement is composed as an emotional Cadenza which expresses the profound affections to the land of Saibei. Using the same Alto Sax., the lyric 2nd movement is followed by a folk dance, the 3rd movement. Chang to a Soprano Saxophone, the 4th movement is sound like a dreamy nocturne which is interrupted by the percussions of the fiery 5th movement. The whole Rhapsody ends on a climax of the Chinese Northern west “wind and percussion “styleâ€. Brodie found more than 300 trills in this piece. Perhaps this is the key to perform the music in real Chinese style. Huang has composed 5 versions of these pieces for different ensembles: saxophone solo with piano, or strings, or winds/brasses, or Chinese traditional orchestra, or symphony orchestra. The attached mp3 was performed by the German saxophonist Jurgen Demmler with pianist Peter Grabinger in 1996. Duration: 20’.

Chamber Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.955747 Composed by Phil Thrift. Arranged by Phil Thrift. 20th Century,Folk,Jazz. Score and parts. 80 pages. Phil Thrift #6674855. Published by Phil Thrift (A0.955747). If you’re looking for a respectable, for the listener undemanding, arrangement of the well-known English folk song Scarborough Fair, then this version may not be for you. Scarborough Affair is a refreshing new take on the original: The familiar melody is never heard in its entirety, there are jazzy harmonies and jazzy syncopations, 5/8 and 7/8 measures, and the arrangement isn’t even in the 3/4 time of the original song. When a 3/4 section does finally appear, featuring a solo for your cor anglais player, the listener gets to hear a variation on the well-known tune. This arrangement is the chamber orchestra edition of the original arrangement I wrote for a wind ensemble and has parts for the following instruments:3 flutes (3rd flute doubling piccolo)2 oboesCor anglais2 Bb clarinets2 bassoonsTrumpet (C and Bb parts included)TromboneHarpsichord doubling pianoStringsYour horn and percussion players can take a break and you may wish to reduce the number of strings.

Full Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.991609 Composed by Christopher Wolfe. Contemporary. Score and parts. 82 pages. Christopher Wolfe #3019975. Published by Christopher Wolfe (A0.991609). Written in 2007 for the Luton Symphony Orchestra in Bedfordshire, England, the Anasazi Overture is a fun and crowd-pleasing concert overture that combines beautiful Coplandesque string playing with exciting Hans Zimmer style brass. The piece is based on two Native American folk tunes; A Hopi lullaby and a Pueblo corn grinding song. The instrumentation of the piece is without percussion as the original intent of the work was to Make it cheap to play. It features double winds and brass with the exception of a 3rd horn part. The level of playing for the strings is quite advanced and the piece is suitable for all-county, all-state, youth orchestras, semiprofessional and professional groups. Some of the advanced techniques required involve heavy double-stopping and high shifting positions for the strings and Hans Zimmer style cuivre for the horns (NOTE: NOT STOPPED HORN) as well as upward rips. The included MP3 recording is the first live performance of the work by the amateur group it was composed for, but I am confident that this piece will prove to be fun and exciting to play for even professional orchestras. This set contains 1 of each part. Permission is given to create copies of the parts for each player in the orchestra as needed. The work has been quite popular with those who have played it. I can be contacted at wolfiemeister@yahoo.com with any questions regarding the work.
