The Five pieces of music which are now known as the Suite for the Mechanical Organ or the Suite for Mechanical Clock (WoO33) surfaced after Beethoven's death, bringing with them several very puzzling mysteries. Most challenging of them all was the instrument for which they were written. Piano, strings, harp and most other common instruments were instantly ruled out, building on the perplexing mystery and adding to the frustration. Eventually, Albert Kopfermann set forth a convincing argument that their strange scoring seemed a perfect fit for the Flötenuhr or Spielühr, a mechanical organ or clock. He observed that the notation in No. 1, in F, matched that in Mozart's K. 608 Fantasia (for Flötenuhr), the score of which Beethoven possessed. Other circumstantial factors pointed to the Flötenuhr as the instrument Beethoven designed these pieces for. None of these five pieces was published until the twentieth century, and, not surprisingly, all are rarely heard.This is my arrangement of Mvt 3 Allegro for a brass trio of 3 trumpets.It will work work equally well with any three similar treble clef brass instruments (i.e all 3 must be in the same key either Bb or Eb)e.g 3 treble clef reading trombones/euphoniums/tubas/cornets or a mixture of cornet/euph/tbn/tuba.Sim. a mix of 3 Eb horns/Eb tubasI have simplified some of the semi quaver passages, and moved some of the notes to fit within the range of the instrument(s).Fun for all 3 players.Enjoy!!

A powerful highlight for every concert.Die Suite aus Fünfstimmig blasende Musik von Johann Chr. Pezelius (1639-1694) ist eine sehr interessante Barocksuite mit den fünf Sätzen Intrade / Bal / Sarabande / Bal / Intrade. Herausgegeben in drei Tonarten B-, C- und D-Dur für drei Trompeten und Orgel. Trompetenstimmen in D, A, Bb and C sind vorhanden. Ein interessantes Highlight für jedes Konzert. Johann Christoph Pezelius wurde 1639 in Glatz geboren und starb 1694 in Bauzen. Unklar ist bis heute, ob er Pezelius, Bezel, Pezolt, Pezel oder Petzel hieß. Pezelius war bis zu seiner Berufung zum Stadtmusikus in Bautzen Mitglied der Stadtpfeifer in Leipzig und ein anerkannter Clarinbläser seiner Zeit. Die hier vom Ensemble Akzente herausgegebene Suite stammt aus: Johannis Pezelii - Fünfstimmig blasende Musik bestehend aus Intraden, Allemanden, Balleten, Courenten, Sarabanden und Chiquen und wurde im Jahre 1685 verfasst. Die Originalbesetzung bestand aus zwei Zinken/Cornetten und drei Posaunen („zweyen Cornetten und dreyen Trombonen). Das Ensemble Akzente fand es reizvoll, einige Stücke zu bearbeiten und in einer eigenen kleinen Suite für zwei Trompeten und Orgel zusammenzufassen: Zwei Intraden rahmen zwei Ballette und eine Sarabande ein.

Romanian Folk Dances Sz. 56, BB 68 is a suite of six short piano pieces composed by Béla Bartók in 1915. He later orchestrated it for small ensemble in 1917 as Sz. 68, BB 76.It is based on seven Romanian tunes from Transylvania, originally played on fiddle or shepherd's flute. The original name for the piece was titled Romanian Folk Dances from Hungary but was later changed by Bartók when Transylvania became part of Romania in 1920. It is nowadays available in the 1971 edition which is written with key signatures although Bartók rarely ever used key signatures.This set of dances consists of six movements and, according to the composer, it should take four minutes and three seconds to perform, but most professional pianists take up to five minutes. The list of the movements is as follows (with the original Hungarian title listed first, the most commonly known Romanian title second, and the English translation in parentheses):

Sergei Prokofiev’s comic opera, The Love for Three Oranges, Op. 33, was first produced in Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre in 1921. Prokofiev subsequently composed a concert suite from six of the opera’s selections. Of these, the March is probably best known. It was adopted as the theme song for a popular radio series, The FBI in Peace and War, which ran on CBS 1944-1958. Through its use on the program, listeners became familiar with the music and were so impressed that it was recorded and published independently as The FBI March. Because of its bold, driving and rhythmic nature, the March is well suited for a brass group, and makes for an exciting experience for both musicians and audience. This arrangement, written for brass quintet using trumpets pitched in C, was completed in 2012 and runs about 1 minute, 38 seconds. (A Bb-trumpets version is also available.)
