Choral Choir,Choral - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1182868 By Stuart Richard Brown. By Stuart Richard Brown. Arranged by Stuart Richard Brown. Christian,Easter,Praise and Worship,Religious,Sacred. 12 pages. Stuart Brown Music #782616. Published by Stuart Brown Music (A0.1182868). Re-published specially for Easter 2023, this is a profoundly beautiful piece for 6-part choir and piano. The composer writes:'On That Cross' is a powerful reflection on the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. I came up with the lyrics at around 3am in the morning of 3rd December 2014 sitting at a desk in room 703 of the De Syloia Hotel in Hanoi, Vietnam. Often I find that my periods of working abroad give me the space to think of things in new ways. This song is a good example of that. One look at the first page of the score of 'On That Cross' is all you need to realize that this is not a case of a choir singing with a piano accompaniment. I put the piano part above the choir in order to dispel that misconception. So if it's not that, what is it? I wanted to demonstrate that it is possible to approach a subject from two completely different points of view, without either point of view being compromised by the other, and yet the result can nevertheless be a beautiful synergy. That is what the pianist and the choir are doing here. Each is meditating upon the cross of Christ, but from two totally unrelated points of view and yet somehow combining in a way that is almost hypnotically beautifully. There is little obvious relationship between the choir's and the piano's music; and yet each is reconciled to the other ... and there's a very good reason why I wanted the music to speak of such reconciliation. In late 2014 people in Iraq were being beheaded, crucified and generally killed in the most brutal and sadistic manner possible. Their only â??crimeâ?? was to dare to call themselves Christians. You can say what you like but in my book nobody has the right to tell anybody else what they should believe, much less murder them on religious grounds. The thing that incensed me almost to the point of incandescence was that the perpetrators of this unspeakable evil dared to justify their actions by claiming that they were acting on behalf of their god. So in such frame of mind I started to write the lyrics to 'On That Cross'.The first words that came into my mind were â??Oh men who dare to call on gods to justify your hatred â?? of this be sure â?¦â? and I wanted to follow that with threats of eternal damnation, torture in hellfire and so on. Except that the words that flowed out of my fingers onto my computer screen were not like that at all. â??Of this be sure â?? I love you still, my cross your salvation from all the sin of man.â?It doesnâ??t get much more powerful than that. I may be incapable of loving the people of ISIS, ISIL, DAESH or whatever one calls them, but my God isnâ??t. He created them, he sent his Son to die for them â?¦ and he is even now ready to save them, as he is you and me. Thatâ??s grace.A small group of us sang this at a Good Friday united service in 2016. We sang it unannounced, at the end of the service, when one would have expected people to start getting up from their seats and leaving the church. Nobody did. Not one single person moved while we sang..

Published by Kevin G. Pace (A0.1030607). A beautiful, sacred vocal solo with music by Kevin G. Pace and text by Mary Ann W. Snowball. Text: When will He rescue me? I wonder. When will Christ set me free? Will I be ready and waiting? Will I fall to my worshipful knees? Or will my impoverished spirt feel this is how life ere will be? When will He rescue Me? I wonder. When will He rescue me? What will He say to me? I wonder. Will He look in my eyes? Will He remember my pleadings and emotions on days when I cried? Oh, will his assistance sustain me? And does my faith reach to his sky? When will He rescue Me? I wonder. When will He rescue me? How will I feel that day? I wonder. What will my future be? Will there be instant rejoicing? Will his love conquer my poverty? Oh, can I depend on his mercy? Will God’s realm of heaven have me? When will He rescue Me? I wonder. When will He rescue me? What will that day be like, I wonder, when Christ will rescue me? When I am ready and waiting, I will fall to my worshipful knees, Then stand by his scarred side in heaven, and thank Him for rescuing me. Christ's love has rescued me, oh wonder! Christ's love has rescued me.

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1324224 Composed by John W. Fisher. A Cappella,Christian,Instructional,Praise & Worship,Spiritual. 3 pages. John Fisher #912420. Published by John Fisher (A0.1324224). WHAT HAPPENED ON THAT MOUNTAIN is a sermon song based on the sermon With Jesus on the Mountain delivered by Dr. Paul de Jong on November 12, 2023 at the First Presbyterian Church, Fort Myers, Florida using the text of Mark 8:31-9:29. The tune is an SATB arrangement of the famous Christmas spiritual Go Tell it on the Mountain with original lyrics to teach about a very important event in the New Testament - Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguragtion. The Chorus departs from the rhythm of the original spiritual when the name of Jesus is sung, emphasizing that He is on a different plane than Moses and Elijah. This and the second verse emphasize how Peter, as he often was, was in error of considering building temporal booths to celebrate the three transfigured beings. What the voice from heaven says and what Jesus says are extremely important. This may not overtake the popularity of the original Christmas spiritual, but I would hope that some congregations would consider using it as a teaching hymn.

BEHOLD HE IS COMING (SATB) – Revelation 1:7

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.926664 Composed by Michael A. Morizio. A Cappella,Christian,Sacred. Octavo. 8 pages. M.A. Morizio #3588427. Published by M.A. Morizio (A0.926664). The Apostle John’s visions in Revelation are nothing less than astounding to all readers. However, little is it known that another Hymn to Christ is neatly tucked into the very first seven verses of this last book of the Bible. John begins his Revelation (verses 1-3) with a prelude, introducing Jesus Christ and the apocalypse (revelation) that was made to him via the angel sent to describe all the things about which he was to write. He says, Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and keep what is written in it, for the time is near. After this short prelude, John delivers an epistolary opening (a greeting identifying the author and recipients), then pronounces a blessing upon the recipients-verses 4-6. After both the prelude and the opening, John immediately proceeds to another known Hymn to Christ, in verse 7, which I have called, Behold He Is Coming. When presented with the text in Revelation 1:7, I immediately thought, Where is the Gospel, the good news, in this piece? After several minutes of meditating on the text, I realized the Gospel message was right there in front of me-in the very last line: Yes, so be it [Lord], so be it, [Amen!] There will be peace! All will be known. Every single person will understand, at that point. The end, is the ushering in of a new beginning. The piece is scored in G minor for SATB with flute and Bâ™ clarinet accompaniment. In the opening phrase, we hear the clarinet on a sustained high (concert) G, which crescendos into a quick, descending sixteenth note pattern. There is urgency! The flute joins the clarinet in a duet to complete the introduction to the anthem. Then, the choir begins their haunting chant, Behold, He is coming with the clouds. Every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him. Every eye will see Him and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him . Alas, there is peace! The two instruments dissolve into an a cappella four-part chorale where the choir creates the agreement between the text and the music, modulating to the relative major (Bâ™)-all is reconciled in a final Amen!

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1043804 By James E. Speer. By Luther B. Bridgers. Arranged by James E. Speer. Praise & Worship,Sacred,Traditional. Score. 6 pages. James E. Speer #648479. Published by James E. Speer (A0.1043804). This song is arranged to sound almost like a barbershop quartet. It is a naturally upbeat song, but the piano accompaniment that comes in on the second verse makes it even more so. That isn't to say the song doesn't have contrast. The second verse is meant to have a slow, almost mournful, feel right before the piano a violin take over and revive the energy in the chorus. This arrangement is a bit on the advanced side, but it is very doable. I hope it will help bring a bit of life and excitement that is pleasing to God in whatever church service it is sung and played in.

It is Vital is the second song from the group of Four Songs by Lucretius. All are from his epic poem The Nature of Things or Rerum Natura. In it he expresses the view of the Greek philosopher Epicurus. Epicurus believed that all things were made up of atoms, and it is just their order and number that made the different things that we observe. This song says that the order of things makes them what they are.

Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1251231 Composed by Gus Kahn, Ernie Erdman and Dan Russo. Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. 20th Century,Comedy,Pop,Standards,Traditional. 37 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #845507. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.1251231). This song starts with the narrator/lyricist saying that he overheard a guy at the train station trying to say farewell to his girl.  The guy would kiss her, bid her adieu, get on the train, then get off and do the whole thing over again.  And, he did this seven times!  What would he say to her each time?  He’d tell her that he’s leaving, that she shouldn’t cry, that he’ll write and that if she does not hear from him she should assume he’s been arrested.  What a romantic line!   Anyway, that’s the gist of the “Toot, Toot, Tootsie!†lyrics.  Credited to Gus Kahn, Ernie Erdman and Dan Russo, New York City’s Leo Feist, Inc. first published this upbeat, leave-taking song in 1922.  It had been one of 29 numbers featured in the 1921 Broadway production Bombo, a vehicle designed to showcase the talent of Al Jolson.  Six years later Jolson sang it in The Jazz Singer, generally recognized as the first sound feature film.  Additionally, all three composers, plus Ted Fio Rito and Eddie Cantor, also made early and very popular recordings.  This bubbly, cheerful arrangement opens in the key of F major with a suggested tempo of 120 BPM.  After an 8-measure introduction, the piece goes right to the familiar chorus with Trumpet 1 and Trombone switching leads and ending with a wonderful Fillmore-style smear.  The tempo then slows dramatically for a somewhat pensive interpretation of the verse, the narrator’s observations, Horn and Trumpet 1 alternating the lead.  At measure 67 the chorus repeats faster than ever, a recommended 132 BPM, as Trombone and the two Trumpets take turns with the melody.  This leads right into a repeat of the verse—this time played at full speed—and a change of key to D-flat major.  Trombone and Tuba play in unison, exchanging the melody with Trumpets, right on into the third go-round of the chorus.  The piece wraps up with a vaudeville-style conclusion and eventually fades away.  (But don’t miss Trombone's four-measure reference to “Charlottetown Is Burning Down/Goodbye, Liza Jane†at measure 141.)Lots of fun!  Completed in 2023, performance time at the suggested tempo runs about 2 minutes, 47 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge.  He would like to receive your suggestions, comments, corrections and criticisms.  For more arrangements by Les, enter Sweetwater Brass Press (without the quotation marks) in the Sheet Music Plus or Sheet Music Direct search box.

Published by JDE FORCHRISTMUSIC (A0.940065). This piece of music is a statement of faith. The chorus states, Yes, I know, the Lord, He loves me so! It is a fun, bright song that is perfect for many different occasions.Lyrics:Verse 1Every day through life we're faced with sin and strife,We see that the heart of men is black; They say that they all know the way,They think they're satisfied with what they have. When at first we see that Jesus set us free,Our selfish self says we know what's right. But since we are filthy we must turn to the light.ChorusYes, I know, The Lord, he loves me so;He saved me from bondage deep within.I know where I'm going; I'm assured of that home,The new earth that is free from death and sin!Oh yes, I know, the Lord, he loves me so,For he took my sin and changed it for his love.Since I made him me guide I now feel certain insideThat I am going to heaven above!Verse 2None can know that day that he will showHimself to this world he made so well; He'll stand and say who chose the way of sinOr who on right things chose to dwell. If he came today, would you stand in dismayAnd say that you're not ready to depart?Be willing, accept himAs Lord into your heart.Chorus.

Composed by Traditional Scottish. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Christian, Repertoire, Technique Training, Easter, Lent. Score, Set of Parts. 17 pages. Published by jmsgu3
The Water Is Wide (O Waly Waly)<br> Duration: 5:24<br> Score: 10 pg. 121 ms., MM quarter = 94, final verse MM quarter = 80, common time<br> Solo part: 3 pg.<br> Piano part: 4 pg.<br> <br> A thought-provoking arrangement of a Traditional Scottish Folksong. Probably most widely known as "The Water Is Wide,"<br> it is also well known by it's more ancient title: "O Waly Waly." The tune is also known as " When I Survey the Wondrous Cross," and "The Gift of Love."<br> This is an original arrangement from the ground up.<br> <br> Programming:<br> If you are looking for something with new contrapuntal and harmonic adventures for a Lenten prelude or a meditation during Holy Week, this will fit the bill.<br> It could also work well in a recital setting because it fits well on the instrument, and provides a chance to show off long, sensitive musical phrases.<br> Some of the figures in the descant verse are a wee-bit more advanced so, this is for intermediate players rather than beginners.<br> <br> Keep in mind these performance ideas:<br> 1. It's a simple tune that needs to unfold in the due course of time, so don't rush it. A slight ritardando at the end of each verse may help if you want to further delineate the verses.<br> 2. There is a lot of interesting counterpoint here, so be prepared to give-and-take on the dynamics more than what I have indicated.<br> 3. The final verse is much slower and more mysterious, and the dynamics are crucial - the quieter the better. Piano - the last chord: take your time on the roll, make it nice and slow.<br> <br> Synopsis of the arrangement:<br> verse 1: Simple quiet duet with the melody in the solo instrument.<br> verse 2: Melody in the solo instrument accompanied by a 2-part canon in the piano.<br> verse 3: Melody in the piano in 4-part harmony.<br> verse 4: 3-part canon on the melody (with a free accompaniment voice).<br> verse 5: 2-part canon with a free accompaniment in the solo part<br> verse 6: Melody in octaves with free bass in octaves; descant in the solo part - loudest verse.<br> verse 7: Very quiet ending verse - Modulates down a fourth, melody in the solo part accompanied by simple quartal/quintal<br> piano clusters over bass chords that suggest submerged church bells.<br> <br> For better insight into the performance of this music: express the emotion indicated by the lyrics:<br> <br> The Water Is Wide:<br> The water is wide, I cannot get over<br> Neither have I wings to fly<br> Give me a boat that can carry two<br> And both shall row, my love and I<br> A ship there is and she sails the sea<br> She's loaded deep as deep can be<br> But not so deep as the love I'm in<br> I know not if I sink or swim<br> I leaned my back against an oak<br> Thinking it was a trusty tree<br> But first it bent and then it broke<br> So did my love prove false to me<br> I reached my finger into some soft bush<br> Thinking the fairest flower to find<br> I pricked my finger to the bone<br> And left the fairest flower behind<br> Oh love be handsome and love be kind<br> Gay as a jewel when first it is new<br> But love grows old and waxes cold<br> And fades away like the morning dew<br> Must I go bound while you go free<br> Must I love a man who doesn't love me<br> Must I be born with so little art<br> As to love a man who'll break my heart<br> When cockle shells turn silver bells<br> Then will my love come back to me<br> When roses bloom in winter's gloom<br> Then will my love return to me<br> <br> The lyrics for "Waly, Waly, Gin Love Be Bonny" from Ramsay's Tea Table Miscellany (1724).<br> <br> O Waly, waly (a lament – "woe is me") up the bank,<br> And waly, waly doun the brae (hill),<br> And waly, waly, yon burn-side (riverside),<br> Where I and my love wont to gae.<br> I lean'd my back into an aik (oak),<br> I thocht it was a trusty tree;<br> But first it bow'd, and syne (soon) it brak (broke),<br> Sae my true love did lightly me.<br> <br> O waly, waly, but love be bonnie (beautiful),<br> A little time while it is new,<br> But when 'tis auld (old), it waxeth cauld (cold),<br> And fades away like the morning dew.<br> O wherefore should I busk my heid (adorn my head)?<br> Or wherefore should I kame (comb) my hair?<br> For my true love has me forsook,<br> And says he'll never love me mair (more).<br> <br> Now Arthur Seat shall be my bed,<br> The sheets shall ne'er be fyl'd by me,<br> Saint Anton's well shall be my drink,<br> Since my true love has forsaken me.<br> Martinmas wind, when wilt thou blaw (blow),<br> And shake the green leaves off the tree?<br> O gentle death, when wilt thou come?<br> For of my life I am weary.<br> <br> 'Tis not the frost, that freezes fell,<br> Nor blawing snaws (snow) inclemency,<br> 'Tis not sic cauld (such cold) that makes me cry,<br> But my love's heart grown cauld to me.<br> When we cam in by Glasgow town,<br> We were a comely sight to see;<br> My love was clad in the black velvet,<br> And I my sell in cramasie (crimson).<br> <br> But had I wist (known), before I kiss'd,<br> That love had been sae ill to win,<br> I'd lock my heart in a case of gold,<br> And pin'd it with a silver pin.<br> Oh, oh! if my young babe were born,<br> And set upon the nurse's knee,<br> And I my sell were dead and gane,<br> For a maid again I'll never be.[4]<br> (Lyrics courtesy of Wikipedia)<br> <br> <br> For more information, please feel free to contact me at: jmsgu3 "at" gmail.com<br> James M. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.1180574). John Cage and I share the same birthday: September 5th. He was born in 1912 and my birth year is 1945. There must be some cosmological link between us because he has always intrigued me - philosophically and musically. Recently I was in my colleague Prof. Jeremiah McGrann's office waiting for him to join me for a martini lunch after a day of teaching. I noticed on his desk a hardcover copy of John Cage I-VI. I asked what it was and he said it is John Cage's Charles Elliot Norton Lecture he gave at Harvard University in 1988-89. I looked inside and there were these mesostics. Very sparsely distributed on each page, and it looked fascinating, like some hieroglyphic art. I was immediately intrigued by it and thought right on the spot that I should buy a copy and maybe create a song cycle from the texts. Upon further research, I found out that John Cage compiled the content for his lecture using excerpts from works by Thoreau, Emerson, Wittgenstein, McLuhan, Buckminster Fuller, plus passages from The Wall Street Journal, The Christian Science Monitor and The New York Times. He then created the final text for his lecture by using chance operations with the assistance of a computer program that he created. And so I did the unthinkable, create a song cycle of words that has no meaning nor narrative in the traditional sense. Quoting John Cage: I have nothing to say, I am saying it, and that is poetry. John Cage I-VI (2023) is in six movements, scored for soprano and piano.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.926665 Composed by Michael A. Morizio. A Cappella,Christian,Sacred. Octavo. 13 pages. M.A. Morizio #3588435. Published by M.A. Morizio (A0.926665). In the first chapter of Paul’s second letter to Timothy, verses 1-10, we observe the intimate relationship that exists, between a spiritual father and his son… I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day. As I remember your tears, I long to see you, that I may be filled with joy. In Chapter two we also witness Paul’s commissioning Timothy to entrust to faithful men all that he was taught by the Apostle, that they then may be able to teach others in the same way also. While the elder Paul is now in prison and bound in chains, he is nonetheless empowered by the Holy Spirit to encourage and exhort Timothy to share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ, for the sake of the Gospel. Though Paul is bound in chains, he declares to Timothy the word of God is not bound! Endurance for Paul serves only one purpose, the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. In verse 11, Paul supports his statements by inserting another known 1st century Hymn to Christ, which brings us to our fifth anthem, For If We Died with Him. The text-or lyrics-of this hymn are even bracketed (or indented) in the NKJV Bible, suggesting the hymnic setting. The proposition of the text is quite clear; if we died with Christ, then we shall also live eternally with Christ. If we endure in the faith, then we shall also reign eternally with Christ. However, there is an insertion of 'Law' here, with a dire warning that the opposite is also true: If we deny Christ, resist, and refuse His beckoning and free invitation to salvation, then He will also deny us. Not everyone who says to me ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven… I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ (Matthew 7:31-23). Thus, the stage has been set for the fifth anthem. The piece is composed for SATB a cappella. The key is F Major. The opening phrase, This is a trustworthy saying, is in ¾ time, where a series of triplets are sung three times each (the Trinitarian opening motif). The meter then shifts to 2/4 with a lovely, distinctive unison melody for the opening phrase, For if we died with Him, we shall also live with Him. Soon after, when the lyrics shift to the words, If we deny Him, He will also deny us, the song drops into the relative minor key (F minor). The melody in this passage is haunting, and sends a clear warning signal to the listener to pay heed to what is being sung. When the text then transitions from if we are faithless, He remains faithful, however, the key shifts back to F Major in a new (dance-like) rhythm for the final verse, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself. A coda is inserted in the final phrase where the triplet pattern is recapitulated (This is a trustworthy saying) and the sopranos ascend to a high F singing the lyrics, we shall live, for He remains faithful! to triumphantly end the piece.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.926666 Composed by Michael A. Morizio. Christian,Sacred. Octavo. 15 pages. M.A. Morizio #3588437. Published by M.A. Morizio (A0.926666). In 1 John, we witness the Apostle (that Jesus loved) writing as the elder statesman of the faith in the last third of the 1st century. In chapter two, verse seven, John refers to the church as beloved and proceeds by telling them of a new commandment. He says (verses 9-11), Whoever loves his brother, abides in the light and there is no cause for stumbling. But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. From this text, John immediately segues into verses 12-14, to affirm for his followers that as far as they are concerned, there is no darkness in them for they are the children of the Light to whom he was earlier referring. John achieves this transition by employing yet another 1st century Hymn to Christ, which I have entitled, Through His Name. This anthem is an affirmation of the faith, first to the little children, then to the fathers, and then to the young men. What is very interesting is that the first stanza is written in the present tense (I am writing to you) but the second stanza, with very similar wording, is written in the past tense (I have written to you). It’s as if to say, you heard the Gospel message before, and you believed, and I am writing it to you again, so that you may continue to believe.

This song was inspired by a friend saying he wrote a tune for a couple whose wife was diagnosed with terminal cancer but could not come up with the words. As a poet words are my thing and I got to put myself in the position of being an old man whose wife had passed away. What would he say? How would he feel? This is what came out of that.It has a definite country/folk feel to it and I keep thinking Willie Nelson would be the perfect performer for this one.Very poignant and moving. A real tearjerker, but with a lot of hope. Easily adapted to be sung as sung by the wife whose husband passed away as it is very general. .

Easy Piano - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1079924 Composed by Robert E. Benton, Jr. Children,Praise & Worship,Sacred,Spiritual,Traditional. Score. 5 pages. Robert E. Benton, Jr. #684142. Published by Robert E. Benton, Jr. (A0.1079924). This hymn recounts many of the metaphorical invitations that Christ made to come to the Father through Him, as recorded in the gospel of John, where Jesus introduces each passage by saying “I AM…â€, echoing God’s self-revealed name, YHWH, from Exodus 3:13-15 (note that YHWH is often transcribed into English using all capital letters “LORD†or alternatively in some versions as “Jehovahâ€). The chorus places each of Jesus’ “I AM†statements in the context of the LORD’s voice from heaven at the mount of transfiguration, as recorded in Matthew 17, which declares the Father’s love for his Son and commands us to listen to Him. Many attempt to deal with Christ as merely a great teacher, but do we listen to what this great teacher has taught? In full obedience to the command to listen to Christ, we should consider what he has said about himself, including at His betrayal in the garden where he says “I AM He... I told you... I AM He!†The composer has arranged this version of hymn for elementary piano with an alternate teacher’s duet. Full lyrics are available as a benefit to the entire family.
