DvoÅ™ák: Largo from the New World Symphony for Baritone Horn & Piano
Baritone Horn TC,Euphonium,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.552853 Compos…
(+)
Baritone Horn TC,Euphonium,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.552853 Composed by Antonin Dvorak. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Instructional,Romantic Period,Sacred,Standards. Score and part. 12 pages. Jmsgu3 #3494239. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.552853). Score: 7 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 3 pages. Duration: 4:25 Not difficult, but requires sensitivity & dynamic control. Suitable for recitals, church meditations, or school programs. Dvořák Background AntonÃn Dvořák (1841 –1904) was, of course, a composer from Czechoslovakia. As a matter of fact, he was among the first Bohemian composers to attain universal recognition. It is important to realize that the late Romantic Nationalist period featured composers who used traditional and folk elements to portray the character of their nation. In particular, we see this in the music of Grieg (Norway), Finland (Sibelius) and Smetana (Bohemia).  Dvořák relied markedly on rhythms and other characteristics of Moravian and Bohemian folk music. Ascent to Fame Dvořák was truly a child musical prodigy on the violin. The premiere performances of his compositions notably occurred 1872 and 1873. He submitted his First Symphony in particular to a German competition, but it failed to win. Consequently, in 1874 he submitted two more symphonies to the Austrian State Prize for Composition. Johannes Brahms was the principal of the jury and was accordingly very impressed. They forthwith awarded the prize to Dvořák in 1874, 1876 and 1877. At this point, Brahms thereupon endorsed Dvořák to the publisher Simrock. Later, the publisher commissioned Dvořák therefore to compose the Slavonic Dances, Op. 46. These became popular overnight and, as a result, Dvořák's worldwide status was launched. International Status Dvořák visited England upon invitation all in all nine times. On each visit, he frequently conducted performances of his own compositions. He conducted concerts of his music, especially in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Eventually, the Prague Conservatory in fact appointed Dvořák as a professor. There, to be sure, he wrote his famous Dumky Trio. United States Consequently, the National Conservatory of Music of America appointed him as director in 1892. As a result, Dvořák composed his two most famous symphonic works: the Symphony No. 9 (From the New World), which spread his name universally, and his Concerto for Cello and Orchestra, one of the most famous of all cello works. Moreover, he wrote his most celebrated American String Quartet during this time. At the same time, because of his growing recognition in Europe and his homesickness for his own country, he left to return to Bohemia in 1895.

High voice and piano - Medium - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8318-4E Composed by Gwyneth W. Walker. Secular, 21st century. 9 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8318-4E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8318-4E). The five letters which provide the lyrics for the songs (adapted by the composer) were selected for their range of topics and sentiments. Some portray the wildlife in the mountains (“Glacier Birds...â€). Others extol the beauty of the Sierra (“Mountain Glory,†“Yosemite Fallsâ€). One expresses the whimsical/temperamental personality of the author (“Ice!â€). And the final letter (“Sequoiaâ€) speaks reverently of the great trees, in a language both naturalistic and sacred. They are the “greatest light in the woods, the greatest light in the world.†The musical settings, especially in the piano accompaniment, are quite programmatic. Glacier birds scamper up and down the keyboard in tone clusters. “Icy†glissandi float off. The great trees take root in large, block chords, and waterfalls cascade down in scales. There is personality in the letters. The bond between John Muir and Mrs. Carr (whom he addresses formally) is one of great kinship- a blending of the souls, a “spiritual romance.†As he marvels at the beauty of the wilderness, he writes ardently, “I wish that you could see this...†When he learns that Mrs. Carr, a botanist (whose plants suffer from the frost), dislikes ice, he chides her, and creates a “mock argument†over the value of glacial ice.The songs begin with an ascent into the mountains. They close with the return to the coast, to the magnificent Sequoia trees, where John Muir camps for the night, in the company of a squirrel. Charmingly, he writes “therefore, my Carr, goodnight.â€.

Instrumental Duet,Piano Clarinet,Flute,Instrumental Duet,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1188952 Composed by Brian Chung. Contemporary,Film/TV,Thriller,Traditional. 9 pages. Brian Chung Music #788560. Published by Brian Chung Music (A0.1188952). Floating, Falling, Flying was originally written as trio for Oboe, Violin and Piano (#1284568 on Sheet Music Direct, #A0.1188926 on Sheet Music Plus). For those who have already purchased that original score, these supplemental parts will make possible the following instrumental combinations:Clarinet (for Oboe) creates a Clarinet/Violin/Piano trio.Clarinet (for Violin) creates an Oboe/Clarinet/Piano trio (heard on sample audio file).Flute (for Violin) creates an Oboe/Flute/Piano trio. The Piano part in the original score is unchanged for all combinations. For Flute/Clarinet/Piano, please purchase the separate version optimized for that instrumentation (#1288002 on Sheet Music Direct, #A0.1192373 on Sheet Music Plus). Composer's Commentary on YouTube:  https://youtu.be/7Isy0t6VzasSUMMARYHave you ever wondered what happens to balloons when they fly away? Floating, Falling, Flying depicts the odyssey of two balloons who find themselves suddenly and blissfully untethered.  It presents a musical narrative of their unpredictable journey through the skies, back to earth, and, eventually, into the stratosphere. The piece was commissioned by Music Teachers National Association for the 2022 National Conference.  It is a trio for oboe, violin and piano written for students at the intermediate to advanced-intermediate level.  Composed in three contiguous movements, it involves three characters – the balloons (portrayed by the oboe and violin) and the wind (represented by the piano).  In the opening movement (Floating), the balloons escape their moorings and ascend into free space, floating playfully among the clouds with the help of a gentle wind. But, as in life, journeys are not always peaceful.  The second movement (Falling) opens with a hint that something is not quite right.  Undaunted, the balloons continue their carefree ascent amid the ominous signs of an approaching storm.  The wind ultimately asserts its authority, pummeling the balloons back to earth.  As they lie helplessly on the ground, they assess each other’s condition and make feeble attempts to relaunch.  But, without wind, their situation seems hopeless.  In the final movement (Flying), hope is restored as a quiet breeze lifts the intrepid pair back into the air.  They resume their skyward adventure with renewed vigor and joy – dancing through the clouds and, ultimately, out of sight.Floating, Falling, Flying is an exciting and challenging piece for student concerts, recitals and Solo and Ensemble festivals.Brian Chung is a pianist, arranger, composer, conference speaker, former Senior Vice Present of Kawai America Corporation, and author or co-author of four books published by Alfred Music.  He was honored to participate in MTNA’s Collaborative Music Commissioning Project with this composition.

He submitted his First Symphony in particular to a German competition, but it failed to win. Consequently, in 1874 he presented two more symphonies to the Austrian State Prize for Composition. Johannes Brahms was the principal of the jury and was accordingly very impressed. They forthwith awarded the prize to Dvořák in 1874, 1876, and 1877. At this point, Brahms thereupon endorsed Dvořák to the publisher Simrock. Later, the publisher commissioned Dvořák to compose the Slavonic Dances, Op. 46. These became popular overnight and, as a result, Dvořák's worldwide status was launched. International Status Dvořák visited England upon invitation nine times. Â

Small Ensemble - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.972020 Composed by Keir C. Crawley. Children,Contemporary,Instructional. Score and parts. 22 pages. Keir C Crawley #3022507. Published by Keir C Crawley (A0.972020). ‘AsCent’ is the culmination of a number of ideas and experiences, first of which was the need to compose exciting and challenging music for the classroom. This piece attempts to put the Key Stage 2 or Key Stage 3 budding musician into the musical world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe or other similar big budget sci-fi action adventure films. Combining motor ostinati with contextually more adventurous accompanying harmony my aim is to move the musical learning away from the sometimes twee and undemanding into something with a little more musical bite. As such ‘AsCent’ should be playable by students from Year 6 upwards, either in its entirety as written live or to a backing track.

From a steady and rather somber beginning, you're soon uplifted by an ascending harmonic progression lavished with upbeat arpeggios. At the refrain, you start to catch a glimpse of everything you can achieve and soar above it all for a blissful moment. Then you get to revisit those feelings again with more insight than before. Finally, you find a sense of resolve at the gentle ending.

Instrumental Duet,Piano Baritone Horn TC,Euphonium,Instrumental Duet,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.842571 Composed by Gioachino Rossini. Arranged by Sean Brennan. Classical,Concert,Graduation,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 19 pages. Bl_music #6643225. Published by bl_music (A0.842571). Theme and Variations by G. Rossini, arr. Brennan for Solo Euphonium/Baritone with Piano accompaniment This edition is the theme and variations from Rossini's Introduction, Theme and Variations originally for clarinet and orchestra. This version has been performed and recorded by a number of internationally renowned Euphonium soloists. We first published the complete Introduction, Theme and Variations for Euphonium in 1991 and performed it on a 1830s ophicleide and a 1840s square piano in 1993. This edition comes with a shortened introduction, theme and variations. Duration around 8 ½ min. Solo part in treble and bass clef.Message from Sean Brennan:This arrangement, or more correctly transcription, was first published by us in 1991, although its origins go back much further than that. I do remember being transfixed in the 1970s by Richard Stoltzman’s recording of the original form of the work for clarinet and orchestra. I was convinced it would work for Euphonium and that one day there would be players with the technique, and above all musicality, to bring it off. For me, this vision came true in 1994 when we first performed the piece in Birmingham in 2004, and then again 10 years later when David Thornton and the Black Dyke Band recorded the Theme and Variations. Rossini composed the Introduction, Theme and Variations for clarinet and orchestra in 1810 at the request of a fellow student at the Conservatorio di Bologna. Although the autograph score has been lost, and some musicologists have questioned the authenticity of the work, I find no reason for doubt since Rossini recycled some of the material in later works, and apart from that his evervascent musical personality is abundant from beginning to end.

Small Ensemble - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.972023 Composed by Keir C. Crawley. Children,Contemporary,Instructional. Score and parts. 14 pages. Keir C Crawley #3129967. Published by Keir C Crawley (A0.972023). ‘AsCent’ is the culmination of a number of ideas and experiences, first of which was the need to compose exciting and challenging music for the classroom. Combining motor ostinati with contextually more adventurous accompanying harmony my aim is to move the musical learning away from the sometimes twee and undemanding into something with a little more musical bite. This orchestration of the piece includes parts for what I have come to know as a ‘mixed ability school ensemble’ i.e. a selection of instruments that you might typically find being taught in high schools both in London and nationally. The idea behind this was to put primary school musicians alongside older (sometimes as much as 10 years older) musicians from high schools to act both as inspiration and role models. 'AsCent’ for mixed ability school ensemble was first performed on Saturday 1st July 2017 by 76 musicians including 34 primary school children from the London Borough of Brent under the baton of the composer.

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.976730 Composed by Robert Myers. Contemporary,Folk. Score and parts. 147 pages. WheatMyer Music #6022347. Published by WheatMyer Music (A0.976730). Prepare for a dramatic musical journey along one of America’s most beautiful thoroughfares, the Beartooth Highway. Eastern Ascent takes a white-knuckled climb from the lush forest floor of Rock Creek Canyon up steep switchbacks past sheer 2,000 foot drops to the highway’s summit amid the alpine tundra at 10, 947 feet of elevation. The music's tension matches the roadway's rising elevation in incremental shifts from calm sonorities to raucously intense dissonances. Brief roadside respites appear as islands of quiet lyricism. The band unites in jubilant exultation as it depicts the extraordinary other worldliness and wildness viewed at the highway’s peak. Listen for hints of the motive from the classic hymn tune HAMBURG in the respites and in the climax. Eastern Ascent is set for large scale concert band or wind ensemble and is suitable for advanced high school and higher players. Purchase price includes full score and set of parts.
