This is a modern folk song based on the true story of John Hewett and Sarah Drew, who died in Stanton Harcourt, Oxfordshire, a week before they were due to be married, on 31st July 1718.It was written as a tribute to John and Sarah, on 31st July 2018: the 300th anniversary of their death.For the lyrics I have taken liberties with the story (I kept them alive!) and I have borrowed from the epitaph written by the poet Alexander Pope, who was staying in the village at the time and was very moved by the incident.For more information on the story please visit https://thames.me.uk/s01960.htmThere is NO MINIMUM ORDER quantity on this piece as I arrange all of my songs to be suitable for teaching by ear. März 1979 anstelle eines Essays eine Anzahl von Gedichten geschrieben, die als Marginalien zu seinem visionären Ballett-Libretto zu verstehen sind. Für den Chorzyklus hat er noch einige weitere Gedichte hinzugefügt. Ich habe aus beiden Materialien eine Auswahl getroffen und sie im Sommer 1983 während eines langen Lehraufenthaltes in Tanglewood, Mass., in Musik gesetzt, mit Ausnahme von zwei Sätzen, die schon existierten, und von denen 'Epitaph' 1982 in Kindberg, Steiermark, als Teil eines Requiems für den Arbeiterdichter Walter Buchebner durch den ORF-Chor uraufgeführt wurde, während das andere 'Pressed by the weight of...' durch den Chor der Musikhochschule Köln als Zeil einer von AIDA organisierten Solidaritätskundgebung für die argentinischen desaparecidos aufgeführt wurde. - Hans Werner Henze.

LaBenne Music (A0.1027822). An acappella choral piece dedicated to the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City. Scored for SSATB choir. A dramatic Latin text setting in F minor, composed in the tintinnabuli style made famous by Arvo Pärt. Pärt calls his vocal composition technique tintinnabuli, a Latin word meaning ‘the ringing of bells’. Pärt claims that the three notes of a triad ‘ring like bells’. In tintinnabuli, the tonic triad is always present somewhere within the piece; either the root, third, or fifth of the tonic triad will always be heard. This provides the unique ability to create striking dissonances that remain unified by the underlying tonality, and resolve satisfyingly back into the tonic. This is evident when listening to Epitaphium Innocentum; the way that one or more lines drift away stepwise from the tonal center while others remain on it is jarring in motion, but very pleasing upon resolution.
