Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1019813 Composed by Luis Bernal. Arranged by Luis Bernal. Contemporary,Film/TV,Patriotic,Video Game. Score and parts. 14 pages. Luis Bernal #5725875. Published by Luis Bernal (A0.1019813). Inspired in the script: 1. Act 1: The slaughter Oradour-sur-Glane, France, June 1944. Having been informed that a Waffen-SS commander has been captured by local members of the Resistance, an SS Panzer battalion is sent to the small village of Oradour in an alleged search for the kidnapped officer and Partisans’ weapons. At two o'clock on Saturday 10th, the midday calm is shattered by the appearance of German troops led by Major Diekmann at the southeastern entrance to the village. Soon after, all seven hundred villagers are assembled on the fairground. Women and children are herded and locked into the church, whereas men are marched in groups to nearby barns and crammed inside. While the village is being plundered, all men are machine-gunned by soldiers, and then the barns are set alight. A smoke bomb sets the church on fire too, and women and children trying to escape through the windows are mowed down as they make it outside. Marguerite is wounded on her way out, but she manages to hide in the bushes and stays there overnight until she is finally rescued the next afternoon. Then, she will face the aftermath: few of her fellow villagers have survived the slaughter… (Alfons Conde)

Chamber Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.890767 Composed by Georg Philipp Telemann. Arranged by Sneakwood Editions. Baroque,Classical. Score and parts. 41 pages. Sneakwood Editions #4781035. Published by Sneakwood Editions (A0.890767). Edition based on Ms. D MÜu, ms. 775Score (20 pages) and Parts (friendly performance edition): Violino principale, Violin I, Violin II, Violin III, Viola, Violoncello and Harpsichord. The Violin Concerto in A major (TWV 51:A4), which has come to light only fairly recently, does not take as its musical model the song of the nightingale (as in ‘La Bizarre’ [TWV 55:G2]) or of the goldfinch (Vivaldi), but the croaking of the common frog, also called ‘Reling’ in certain regions of Germany, whence the concerto’s subtitle. Nothing better could be expected of a composer who found inspiration even in crows and in the out-of-tune playing of village musicians! Although this concerto, which the manuscript attributes to Telemann, bears traces of his personal style, other features, such as the exceptionally high solo part, leave room for doubt. At a structurally important point in the first movement the soloist produces no more than a succession of repeated notes, ‘a-a, a-a’, which infect the other parts as well. Of course, this is the vowel that the frog croaks, given a distinctive tone-colour by use of the open A string and stopped D string. But worse is to come. In the second ritornello the orchestral violins ‘forget’ the beginning of their theme, whilst the cello inappropriately pushes its way into the foreground. The setting of the second movement (Adagio), probably a moonlit stretch of shallow water, then audibly inspires a pair of courting frogs to make sweet music together. We are given the opportunity to rejoice in their croaking offspring in the concluding Menuet and its rapid Double. This movement entirely dispenses with concertante sounds of nature and thereby betrays its origins in the suite, where it always takes its accustomed place in Telemann’s music. If we knew that a satirist was at work in this ‘Relinge’ Concerto, someone who was deliberately exhibiting all these deviations from good taste, then we could infer with some certainty that the composer is indeed Telemann. Since his own concertos ‘smack of France’ (as he puts it in his autobiography of 1718), we may most likely credit him with permitting his not at all ‘sullen old heart’ a little joke at the expense of the relevant concertos of a certain Italian composer… – Peter Huth (trans. Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.750785 Composed by E. T. Paull (1908). Arranged by Brendan Elliget MAGA 537. Contemporary. Score and parts. 115 pages. BJE Music #3567783. Published by BJE Music (A0.750785). The Home Coming March (1908) - Concert Band Score and Parts PDF Music by: ET Paull Of course, eventually, all the soldiers and sailors had to eventually come home from all the battles and Paull had that eventuality well covered also. The artwork on the front cover (of unknown origin) is one that is full of imagery that covers all aspects of the services, Army and Navy and is full of patriotic and familial ideals. The border lists all of the US States and the corner pictures depict aspects of homecoming. The main image is a parade of victory. Let's let Paull explain it all to us as he did on the inside cover. Why This Piece Of Music Was Named The Home Coming March Explanatory When the author had about completed the music of the present march, it occurred to him that it might be well to have suggestions made from a number of people, recommending a good name for same, for after all there is considerable in a name. He, therefore, had a special advertisement placed in several of the leading music Journals throughout the country, offering a prize of $10.00 in gold to anyone suggesting a name that would be accepted. Over three thousand names were sent in from all parts of the country, even from far away New Zealand and Australia, in which countries the author's marches are universal favorites. Included in the letters received was one from Mr. W. C. Bates, Secretary of the Sheffield Advertising Agency of New York and Chicago, in which he suggested the name The Home Coming March. After due consideration, this name was accepted, and the prize was awarded and paid to Mr. Bates, who stated that he was prompted to recommend this name on account of having been present during the impressive celebration of Old Home Week in Boston, Mass., last year. Probably no one idea is so universally dominant in the mind of the Human Race as that of home, or matters pertaining to home. The author believes that the name selected is one that will appeal to everyone; as the many pleasant associations with the words Home Coming are almost without limit. The title page of this march is without any exception the handsomest seen on a piece of music. The main body of the title pace represents a street scene, with buildings decorated and shows a handsome royal Arch of Welcome in the foreground, gaily decorated with flags, emblems, and bunting. A band is shown passing under the arch, leading a procession of the Home Guard, and thousands of people waving handkerchiefs, banners, flags, etc. Four smaller scenes also appear on the page, one representing the Home Coming of the soldier from war; another scene shows the Home Coming of the sailor boys embarking from their battleships; another scene represents the Home Coming reunion of the family and loved ones; the fourth scene represents the Home Coming of the father from work, where a little tot has been watching and waiting, and runs to meet him. The whole design of the title page is then surrounded by a border of differently designed medallions, on which appears the names of all the States of the Union, making without a doubt, the most unique and attractive title page ever conceived for a piece of music. One thing Paull mastered early in his career was the art of overstatement! Musically, this march is beginning to show the repetitiveness of many of Paull's works, especially evident as time passed. Once Paull found the formula (a fabulous cover and a playable, rousing march) that sold music, he stuck with it and was quite successful as a result. This arrangement is for Full Concert Band with the original optional piano part ( Not on the score). There are parts for Trombones 1 and 2 in TC and BC as well as parts of Euphonium in TC and BC. The MP3 was recorded with NotePerformer 3.Grade = 3.5 Duration =.

Published by Christopher Evans (A0.846375). I have arranged this march from the opera 'Gypsy Baron' by Johann Stauss II for organ solo following a request from one of my choir members, retired Major Ken Gaugh of The Royal Engineers, who was familiar with it as a military march, to which he had marched many times while on parade. Although I don't play it very often, it has become a popular piece at my own church attracting quite a number of humorous (in a complimentary way) comments because, when played on the organ it reminds people of the fairground!!! The indicated registration is for guidance only and can easily be adapted for individual instruments.

SATB choir, cello, and piano - Moderately Easy - Digital Download SKU: MQ.50-3104-E Composed by Terre Johnson. Lent. Instrument parts. 14 pages. MorningStar Music Publishers - Digital Sheet Music #50-3104-E. Published by MorningStar Music Publishers - Digital Sheet Music (MQ.50-3104-E). English. This text from an old Southern folk hymn is given new original music in this anthem setting for SATB, cello, and piano. The piano part can easily be adapted to organ. The voice parts are accessible. The tenors and basses do sing a verse alone, but in unison to two parts. The sum total makes a sort of contemplative tapestry in which the cello moves in and out of the foreground and so do the voices. Set mostly in C minor, there is a middle section where the chorus sings wordlessly against the cello line and the emphasis shifts to E-flat major. Despite the despair in the text, there is also comfort and reassurance here.

Being for the Benefit of Mr.Kite arranged brass quintetBeing for the Benefit of Mr. Kite! is a song recorded by the English rock band the Beatles for their 1967 album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. It was written and composed primarily by John Lennon and credited to Lennon–McCartney. Most of the lyrics came from a 19th-century circus poster for Pablo Fanque's Circus Royal appearance at Rochdale. One of the most musically complex songs on Sgt. Pepper, it was recorded by the Beatles on 17 February 1967 with overdubs on 20 February (organ sound effects), 28 March (harmonica, organ, guitar), 29 March (more organ effects) and 31 March.John Lennon wanted the track to have a carnival atmosphere, and told producer George Martin that he wanted to smell the sawdust on the floor. In the middle eight bars, multiple recordings of fairground organs and calliope music were spliced together to attempt to satisfy this request.i have attempted to vary the sound with the use of muted trumpets. The 1st and last verses are given to trumpet 1, and verse 2 taken by the trombone. The mp3 is the end of the mddle 8 circus section, leading back in to the verseFun for every player:Enjoy.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1126984 By Anne Shelton. By Irving Aaronson and Paul Francis Webster. Arranged by Scott S. Stewart. 19th Century,Film/TV,Instructional,Opera,Standards. Octavo. 11 pages. Scott S. Stewart #727620. Published by Scott S. Stewart (A0.1126984). “The Loveliest Night of the Year†was first published in 1888 by the Mexican composer and violinist, Juventino P. Rosas, originally titled “Sobre las olas†(Over the Waves). Generations grew up hearing this tune played on (perhaps) a WurliTzer 153 Band Wagon that accompanied their carousel ride in many a fairground on a sunny afternoon. In 1950 the music was adapted by Irving Aaronson and Paul Francis Webster and featured in the MGM biographical film “The Great Carusoâ€. It was later recorded by Mario Lanza, thus making it an ‘Italian-American favorite’. This arrangement is scored for 4-part SATB ensemble with piano accompaniment. Performance time: 3:00+- This tune is an excellent opening number for an outdoor summer’s evening community engagement concert, or the theme song for a concert about opera and/or opera singers, or a performance about opera’s connection to it’s sister art form – film.

Large Ensemble Bassoon,Cello,Clarinet,Flute,Harp,Horn,Multi-Percussion,Viola,Violin - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.948672 Composed by J Farrow. Contemporary. Score and parts. 66 pages. Jamie Farrow #5983915. Published by Jamie Farrow (A0.948672). Turner’s The Sun Setting Through Vapour was my inspiration because of the different layers and zones of interest which influenced my composition’s structure. The central focus of the painting is the setting sun in the central background of the work. The reflection of the sun draws the eye into the foreground and the market scene in the front right zone. This created the first section of my composition, the idea of the sun setting through the vapour before revealing a market scene which then fades back into the atmospheric sun setting through the vapour. The second section moves to the story of the Napoleonic War ships in the middle and backgrounds of the painting using percussion. Reflecting this the section centres around the narrative of a naval battle; the manoeuvring into position and flexing of strength; the pre-battle planning; the calm before and finally the battle itself. The third section draws together two aspects: the sun setting and the prison ship, drawing us from the aftermath of the battle to the journey back to shore showing the juxtaposing emotions of the imagined victorious British (the piccolo) and French prisoners (the cello). Closer to shore the vapour descends and we hear inflections of the market before returning to the sun setting through the vapour with the harbour clock (Tubular Bells) grounding us in real time.

MorningStar Music Publishers - Digital Sheet Music #20-407-E. Published by MorningStar Music Publishers - Digital Sheet Music (MQ.20-407-E). Three stanzas of text are set to the hymn tune ELLACOMBE. An introduction quotes snippets of the tune, followed by stanza one for unison congregation with the brass echoing imitatively. The texture changes in stanza two as the French horn takes the foreground in the accompaniment, with the organ supporting the congregation. The final stanza has the trumpets leaping in baroque-like fanfares at first, then the imitative echoes return. Dignified but joyful, this majestic setting will add to your Easter service.Included Instrumental Parts: Trumpet I and II in C and B-flat, Horn in F, Trombone I and II, Timpani. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1335055). Satie: Parade - Final & Suite au Prélude de rideau rougeArranged wind dectet/bass (double wind quintet)The concluding music for Erik Satie's Ballet Parade.Other movements from Parade are available. Background info:Parade is a ballet choreographed by Leonide Massine, with music by Erik Satie and a one-act scenario by Jean Cocteau. The ballet was composed in 1916–17 for Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. The ballet premiered on Friday, May 18, 1917, at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, with costumes and sets designed by Pablo Picasso, choreography by Léonide Massine (who danced), and the orchestra conducted by Ernest Ansermet. The ballet was remarkable for several reasons. It was the first collaboration between Satie and Picasso, and also the first time either of them had worked on a ballet, thus making it the first time either collaborated with Diaghilev and the Ballets Russes. The plot of Parade incorporated and was inspired by popular entertainments of the period, such as Parisian music-halls and American silent-films.Much of the settings used in Parade's plot occurred outside of the formal Parisian theater, depicting the streets of Paris. The plot reproduces various elements of everyday life such as the music hall and fairground. Before Parade, the use of popular entertainment materials was considered unsuitable for the elite world of the ballet. The plot of Parade composed by Cocteau includes the failed attempt of a troupe of performers to attract audience members to view their show. Some of Picasso's Cubist costumes were in solid cardboard, allowing the dancers only a minimum of movement. The score contained several noise-making instruments (typewriter, foghorn, an assortment of milk bottles, pistol, and so on), which had been added by Cocteau (somewhat to the dismay of Satie). It is supposedthat such additions by Cocteau showed his eagerness to create a succès de scandale, comparable to that of Igor Stravinsky's Le Sacre du Printemps which had been premiered by the Ballets Russes some years before, and caused no less scandal.Although Parade was quite revolutionary, bringing common street entertainments to the elite, being scorned by audiences and being praised by critics, nonetheless many years later Stravinsky could still pride himself in never having been topped in the matter of succès de scandale. The ragtime contained in Parade would later be adapted for piano solo and attained considerable success as a separate piano piece. The finale is a rapid ragtime dance in which the whole cast [makes] a last desperate attempt to lure the audience in to see their showI have omitted the  percussion in my arrangement of the finale. The premiere of the ballet resulted in a number of scandals. One faction of the audience booed, hissed, and was very unruly, nearly causing a riot before they were drowned out by enthusiastic applause. Many of their objections were focused on Picasso's cubist design, which was met with cries of sale boche.Arranged wind dectet/bass (double wind quintet).

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.576203 Composed by David Warin Solomons. Arranged by Marco Perez. Contemporary. Score and parts. 69 pages. David Warin Solomons #6309. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.576203). This is an orchestral arrangement by Marco A Perez of a piece of mine in 11-time, which has appeared in various other forms (Reed 11 (wind trio), The Bishop is forced to Dance (clarinet quartet), The Last Village on Earth (crumhorns and various) - which can also be found on SheetMusicPlus) As Marco is more familiar with percussion instruments than I am, I suggested a collaboration - (the first of many, I expect), and this is the result. The sound sample is an electronic preview. The pdf file contains score and parts.

Soprano voice and piano - difficult - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q6665 For soprano and piano. Composed by John Casken. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Duration 12 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q6665. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q6665). French.Chansons de Verlaine were completed in 2006. The third song, Colloque sentimental, was written in 2003 for Alison Smart and Katharine Durran’s New French Song project. It was as a result of having written one short song to words by Verlaine that I subsequently decided to set two further poems to make a group of three. All three were also set by Debussy: L’ombre des arbres and Chevaux de bois appear in Ariettes Oubliées, while Colloque sentimental belongs to Debussy’s second set of Fêtes Galantes. The poems I have grouped together are linked by the idea of three different landscapes. In the first, Verlaine precedes the words of his own sad, pale landscape with words from Cyrano de Bergerac about a nightingale who fears himself about to fall into a river and drown. In the second poem the landscape has been occupied by a fairground where men, women and children watch as the hobby-horses go round and round before night falls and the church tolls a passing-bell. The third poem takes us into an old park where two ghosts recall their past. The one wonders if the other remembers the happy days of their past lives, but the other doesn’t want to remember, barely acknowledging the closeness they once shared, seeing only that ‘hope has fled, defeated, towards the dark sky.’ I am very grateful to Roger Nichols and Dominique Mols for their advice with the setting of the French texts and with the translations. John Casken Colloque sentimental was first performed by Alison Smart and Katherine Durran at the Purcell Room in London on 13 July 2004.
