Choral Choir,Choral,SATB Chorus - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1465877 Composed by Music by John B. Dykes and Words by William Whiting and Mary Hamilton. Arranged by James F. Linzey. Chamber,Classical,Patriotic,Religious,Sacred. 4 pages. Military Bible Association #1044474. Published by Military Bible Association (A0.1465877). History of the United States Navy and the Navy HymnOn August 26, 1775, the General Assembly of Rhode Island passed a resolution to create the Continental Fleet, to be funded by the Continental Congress in Philadelphia. But on October 3, 1775, Congress rejected it. On October 13, 1775, the Continental Congress changed courses and established the Continental Navy. This was the birth of the United States Navy. The Continental Navy obtained and armed two civilian vessels, the Andrew Doria and the Cabot. The first United States Navy ship was the USS Alfred, which was commissioned by Captain Dudley Saltonstall on December 3, 1775. John Adams served as the first Chairman of the Naval Committee, but in 1776 the Continental Congress appointed Commodore Esek Hopkins to be the Navy’s first Commander. After the Revolutionary War, the government abolished the Continental Navy. But 11 years later, Congress passed the Naval Act of 1794, which created the United States Navy. The Navy was involved in the Revolutionary War (1775 – 1776), the War of 1812 (1812 – 1815), the Civil World (1861 – 1865), the Mexican-American War (1846 – 1848), the Spanish-American War (1898), World War I (1914 – 1918), World War II (1939 – 1945), the Korean conflict, the Vietnam conflict (1964 – 1975), the war on terrorism through various military operations around the world (1987 – 2021) ), Operation Earnest Will (1987 – 1988), Operation Praying Mantis in the Persian Gulf (1988), Operation Urgent Fury at the invasion of Grenada (1983), Operation Desert Shield (1990 – 1991) and Operation Desert Storm (1991) which comprised the Gulf War, Operation Deliberate Force which was the invasion of Bosnia and Herzegovina (1995), Operation Allied Force which was the attack on Yugoslavia (1999), Operation Desert Fox which was the bombing of Iraq (1998), Operation Southern Watch which was the aerial patrolling of Iraq (1992 – 2003), Operation Enduring Freedom at the invasion of Afghanistan (2001 – 2021), and Operation Iraqi Freedom at the invasion of Iraq (2003 – 2011). The Navy emerged from World War II as the most powerful Navy in the world. In 1860, William Whiting of Winchester, England, wrote a poem titled “Eternal Father, Strong to Save” for one of his students, who was preparing to sail for the United States. The poem alludes to Psalm 107 and is a prayer for God’s protection from seafaring danger. In 1861, Rev. John Bacchus Dykes, an Anglican clergyman, composed the tune “Melita,” in 88 88 88 iambic meter, to accompany the hymn. “Melita” is the archaic name of Malta, which is an ancient seafaring nation. It was the site of the shipwreck that involved the Apostle Paul, as described in the Acts of the Apostles, chapters 27–28. In 1814, Malta became the Crown Colony of the United Kingdom, but in 1964 it gained independence and joined the British Commonwealth. The hymn has long been used by Navy and civilian chaplains during chapel services at sea, in navy and civilian maritime contexts. The Royal Navy, navies of the British Commonwealth, and the United States Navy adopted the hymn in the late 19th century as “The Navy Hymn.” Many verses have been written to Melita. James F. Linzey selected the four verses by Whiting (verses 1-3) and Hamilton (verse 4), which are the verses traditionally used in the Armed Forces Hymnal. James Linzey is the General Editor of the New Tyndale Version (NTV) Bible translation.

Choral Choir,Choral,SATB Chorus - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1465872 Composed by Mary Hamilton and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (altered by James F. Linzey). Arranged by James F. Linzey. Classical,Historic,Patriotic,Religious,Sacred. 4 pages. Military Bible Association #1044469. Published by Military Bible Association (A0.1465872). History of the United States Air Force and the Air Force HymnOn September 18, 1947, the National Security Act of 1947 created the National Military Establishment and the United States Air Force. The National Military Establishment later became the Department of Defense. The Air Force was part of the Army Air Corps since August 1, 1907. It had the oversight of military aviation for land-based operations. The organizational development of the Air Force is as follows: Aeronautical Division, Signal Corps (1 August 1907 – 18 July 1914), Aviation Section, Signal Corps (18 July 1914 – 20 May 1918), Division of Military Aeronautics (20 May 1918 – 24 May 1918), Air Service, U.S. Army (24 May 1918 – 2 July 1926), U.S. Army Air Corps (2 July 1926 – 20 June 1941), the U.S. Army Air Forces (20 June 1941 – 17 September 1947), and the United States Air Force, 18 September 1947 – present), and the separation of the United States Air Force Space Command as the United States Space Force (20 December 2019 – present). The Air Force has been involved in World War 1, World War II, the Cold War and the Korean conflict, the Vietnam conflict, combat operations such as Operation Eagle Claw, the invasion of Grenada (1983), the bombing of Libya (1986), the invasion of Panama (1989), Operation Desert Storm, the Gulf War, Bosnia and Kosovo, the Global War on Terror, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom.Mary Christian Dundas Hamilton (24 May 1850 - 10 June 1943) was a Scottish writer and poet. She is known for writing “A Hymn for Aviators” (1915). It was known as “Lord, Guard and Guide the Men Who Fly,” and also as the United States Air Force Hymn. It was set to Mozart's “Dona Nobis Pacem,” a waltz. Various phrases and verses were used in the United States Navy Hymn, “Eternal Father, Strong to Save,” and alluded to in the United States Space Force Hymn, “Creator of the Universe.” Former Air Force Chaplain and Officer, theologian and hymnist, Major James F. Linzey (Ret.), believed that military hymns should not be waltzes. So he converted the timing of Mozart’s piece to four-four timing, giving the Air Force Hymn traditional timing that is fit for a hymn. James Linzey is the General Editor of the New Tyndale Version (NTV) Bible translation.

Historic,Instructional,Multicultural,Standards,Traditional,World. 11 pages. Keith Terrett #1084408. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1509156). Pátria (English: Fatherland) is the national anthem of East Timor. It was originally adopted when East Timor unilaterally declared its independence from Portugal in 1975. However, this usage would be short-lived, when the country was invaded by Indonesia. It was officially re-adopted when the independence of East Timor was finally restored in 2002 following a United Nations intervention. The music was composed by Afonso Redentor Araújo, and the words were written by the poet Francisco Borja da Costa, who was killed by Indonesian forces at the time of the invasion. It was originally sung exclusively in Portuguese, however there is now a Tetum version. The infraconstitutional officialization and the forms of ceremony of uses of the state anthem are regulated by the Law of the National Symbols of Timor-Leste.

By Graham Hamilton. Classical,Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Historic,Medieval. Brass Band. 83 pages. Hambone Music #1018484. Published by Hambone Music (A0.1438467). A beautiful slow melody in 4/4 followed by a rousing 6/4 trek with fanfares then returning to the slow melody in 4/4. Not overly difficult but players should be around Grade 5 (ABRSM) and bands of around 2nd to 3rd section, although still possible with 4th section bands. Inspired by an old ruined church in my town called the 'Cross Kirk' during the times of the Cromwellian invasion of Scotland.Part 1 It is around the year 1650. A novice monk awakes from his slumber to the echoes of prayers and holy chanting coming through the cloisters. After he rises, he readies the oxen for a trek down the St. Andrews Road to the nearby satellite site of the priory - the site of the modern day St Andrew's cemetery. Part 2 It is an arduous trek over a muddy, rocky, unprepared track with heavy carts, with oxen straining to pull the load. They stop for a breather (3:09) and the impressive vistas are observed and the flag at 'Auld Neidpath' is just visible, reflected in the noble theme between the arduous oxen trekking theme. Part 3 The caravan starts to speed up; the oxen being startled by the sounds of fanfare trumpets coming from behind - a brave group of knights have broken through English lines and speed towards Neidpath to reinforce the besieged occupants. As they pass the wagon train, the fanfares get louder until the party reach the head of the train where the lead Knight halts to show piety to the Hieromonk who blesses him and his knights. The novice looks on awe-inspired at the brave knights, with noble faces, resplendent in shining armour, with banners flapping in the wind. No time to stop! The knights remount and continue on, the fanfares trailing off into the distance. The wagon train slows down having reached its destination. Part 4 The novice is back at the priory, reflecting on seeing knights for the first time (receiving their blessing); their nobility and bravery impressed upon him and retires to his cell for the evening, the evening prayers and chants again echoing through the cloisters . As he closes his eyes, his mind returns to the knights and a smile crosses his face as he gently drifts off to sleep, as the final bell of the day tolls.

Small Ensemble Bass Guitar,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1013048 Composed by Christine Southworth. Contemporary,World. Score and parts. 76 pages. Airplane Ears Music #5802059. Published by Airplane Ears Music (A0.1013048). HEAVY METAL (2006, 18') for Balinese Gamelan Gong Kebyar, guitar, violin, bass, lyricon, and robotic instruments. Commissioned by the Boston Museum of Science with the support of NEFA and Meet the Composer. Premiered on Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at Cahner's Theater in the Boston Museum of Science as part of Music & The Invasion of Technology, performed by Gamelan Galak Tika, Blake Newman, Erik Nugent, Todd Reynolds, and Eddie Whalen. Heavy Metal represents a new kind of fusion, multi-dimensional, making connections across cultures acoustic and electronic, western and eastern, high and low, human and machine. The piece was written for Gamelan Galak Tika, a Balinese gamelan in residence at MIT that has worked with electric instruments many times in the past, but this is certainly the first time a traditional Balinese gamelan has shared the stage with robotic instruments. In other ways, though, there is something very natural about these combinations: they reflect the way we all experience music in the 21st century. It could also be argued that this is simply an extension of the way music has always progressed and changed, as Chinese shawms morphed into oboes, and exotic middle eastern percussion instruments, like the cymbal and triangle, worked their way into the symphony orchestra. Heavy Metal engages the full force of two ensembles, Galak Tika and Ensemble Robot, as well as a living history of electroacoustic instruments, from the vintage lyricon to the Whirlybot. The sounds implicit in both senses of the title find their way into new combinations of struck bronze and excitable circuitry. Heavy Metal is based on American hard rock music from the late 1970’s through the early 1990s. The idea started as a pun, because the keys of many Balinese gamelan instruments are made of metal, but when I began studying the melodic ideas and rhythms in heavy metal music, I found that they leant themselves very well to gamelan. The problem was that a gamelan has a very specific sound and limited timbral variation, the sounds of hit metal and skin. I feel that the sounds of the gamelan become much more interesting when combined with string sounds. Also, the gamelan uses a pentatonic scale so I am using western instruments and robots to expand the sound universe to a full spectrum. In this piece, the gamelan and the western/robotic instruments play separately – rhythmically they are together, and they are working through the same material at the same time, but the western instruments and robots do not play the 5 notes that the gamelan plays, and more often than not they stay out of that key (a variation of E Major, the gamelan tuning being C#, D#, E, G, and A) altogether. This creates a sense of two harmonic worlds co-existing and cooperating, the West and our technology with Bali and their technology, much more primitive but very powerful nonetheless.About the ComposerChristine Southworth (b. 1978) is a composer and video artist based in Lexington, Massachusetts, dedicated to creating music born from a cross-pollination of sonic ideas. Inspired by intersections of technology and art, nature and machines, and musics from cultures around the world, her music employs sounds from man and nature, from Van de Graaff Generators to honeybees, Balinese gamelan to seismic data from volcanoes. Arranged by Colin G Dance. March. Brass Band. 24 pages. Dance is With Music #714349. Published by Dance is With Music (A0.1112190). Heart of Oak is the official march of the Royal Navy. It is also the official march of several Commonwealth navies, including the Royal Canadian Navy and the Royal New Zealand Navy. It was also the official march of the Royal Australian Navy, but has now been replaced by the new march, Royal Australian Navy. The music of Heart of Oak was written in 1759 by composer William Boyce, the lyrics by actor David Garrick, for Garrick's pantomime Harlequin's Invasion, to which others contributed as well. The pantomime was first performed on New Year's Eve of that year at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London, with Handel soloist Samuel Thomas Champnes singing Heart of Oak. The wonderful year referenced in the first verse was the Annus Mirabilis of 1759, during which British forces were victorious in several significant battles: the Battle of Minden on 1 August 1759; the Battle of Lagos on 19 August 1759; the Battle of the Plains of Abraham (outside Quebec City) on 13 September 1759; and the Battle of Quiberon Bay on 20 November 1759. The last battle foiled a French invasion project planned by the Duc de Choiseul to defeat Britain during the Seven Years' War, hence the reference in the song to 'flat-bottom' invasion barges. These victories were followed a few months later by the Battle of Wandiwash in India on 22 January 1760. Britain's continued success in the war boosted the song's popularity. The oak in the song's title refers to the wood from which British warships were generally made during the age of sail. The Heart of oak is the strongest central wood of the tree. The reference to freemen not slaves echoes the refrain (Britons never will be slaves!) of Rule, Britannia!, written and composed two decades earlier.

Published by Emmanuel Danielson (A0.997500). This piece was inspired by the story of the typhoons around the 13th century. As invading naval forces from Mongolia were about to reach Japan, a typhoon was said to appear and wipe out every ship. It was an event that happened twice, once in 1274 and another in 1281. The term Kamikaze translates to Divine Wind and this piece, with its winding arpeggios and dark harmonies, illustrate this story of the immense typhoons that prevented such invasions from happening.
