String Orchestra - Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by trad. Arranged by Keith Terrett. 20th Century, European, Patriotic. Score, Set of Parts. 10 pages. Published by Music for all Occasions
Londonderry Air arranged for String Orchestra.<br> <br> A big band version of the song is used as the theme for The Danny Thomas Show (a.k.a. Make Room For Daddy).<br> <br> "Danny Boy" was used to represent Northern Ireland at the start of the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony, sung by a choir of children on the Giant’s Causeway.<br> <br> On November 25, 2014, the Vancouver Canucks used the song in honor of the recently deceased Pat Quinn, who played and worked in many executive capacities for the team.<br> <br> There are various theories as to the true meaning of "Danny Boy". Some listeners have interpreted the song to be a message from a parent to a son going off to war or leaving as part of the Irish diaspora.<br> <br> The 1918 version of the sheet music included alternative lyrics ("Eily Dear"), with the instructions that "when sung by a man, the words in italic should be used; the song then becomes "Eily Dear", so that "Danny Boy" is only to be sung by a lady". In spite of this, it is unclear whether this was Weatherly’s intent.<br> <br> Why the name Londonderry Air? Londonderry and Derry refer to the same place, a city in the north of Ireland, and also to the surrounding county. Supposedly the city of Derry was founded by St. Colmcille, although archaeological evidence shows that people were living there thousands of years earlier. There is an excellent museum in the city, which is worth a visit if you want to find out more. The name of the city was actually "Doire", corrupted to "Derry" by people who can’t pronounce Irish. It thought to derive from an Irish root meaning "oak tree".<br> <br> Moving quickly along in history, about a millenium later the government of England was having a difficult time colonizing Ireland because of the fierce and warlike clans living there, especially in the north of the country, Ulster. The monarchs of England, almost all of whom were notorious cheapskates, were continually looking about for ingenious ways to conquer places without actually having to put up the money themselves, or run the risk of unpopularity if they lost. In the case of Ireland, some of these schemes of the "Brish gummit" (as it is termed nowadays in Ulster) are still producing unfortunate long-term consequences.<br> <br> In 1608, King James I gave the city of Derry to the City of London corporation. I guess the deal could be summed up by saying that if the City of London could figure out a way to chase all the inhabitants out of Derry, they would be allowed to keep the loot, minus a percentage for the King of course. If they lost, well too bad. In celebration of this historic agreement, the name of Derry was officially changed to Londonderry. (For further information, check out the Northern Ireland Tourist Board’s History of Derry.)<br> <br> The linguistic outcome of all this today is that, if you think that King James’s deal with the City of London was a good idea, you call both the city and county "Londonderry". If you do, you are probably a supporter of the Unionist movement that seeks to keep Ulster a part of the United Kingdom. If you think it was a bad idea, you call both "Derry", and you are probably a supporter of the Irish Nationalist cause. Or you might just be someone who thinks it’s confusing for kings to be going around changing the names of places all the time for no good reason.<br> <br> You can find plenty of discussion about the political side of the question elsewhere, but here let’s look at the musical side. We have an air, collected in county Derry/Londonderry, and it doesn’t have a title. What do we call it?<br> <br> If you were a proper Victorian, there’s no way you were going to call it the Londonderry Air, much less the Derry Air, because of the improper sentiments that these titles might suggest. My parents tell me that in their youth in Australia, it was usually called the Air from County Derry. (This would, I suppose, support Winston Churchill’s theory that Australia was inhabited by "convicts and Irishmen".)<br> <br> My mother also sends the following information, referring to an arrangement of the tune by the Australian composer Percy Grainger:<br> <br> Just another note about Danny Boy, that I grew up in Australia believing to be the Air from County Derry. We were looking through some LP’s last night (back to vinyl yet!) and found a Mercury Wing Classical Favorites stereo LP SRW18060, COUNTRY GARDENS and other favorites by Percy Grainger {played by} Eastman-Rochester Pops, Frederick Fennell, conducting. The cover notes included the following: "Irish Tune from County Derry was harmonised in memory of Irish childhood friends in Australia." Considered by many to be Grainger’s masterpiece of harmonization, the tune was collected many years ago by Miss Jane Ross of New Town, Limavady, Ireland. Grainger has set it for many instrumental combinations. So there’s another variant on the name for it. It doesn’t say who wrote the notes, but the bits in quotes for each of the works on the record are Grainger’s original comments.<br> <br> The references to Londonderry Air that I’ve seen don’t go back any earlier than the late 1930s. For example, the Glenn Miller Orchestra recorded Danny Boy (Londonderry Air) in February 1940. Bing Crosby’s version was recorded in July 1941 (reference). (So many different things I could check up on!) Londonderry was an important American naval base during WWII, but the US hadn’t come into the war in 1940.<br> <br> Need an anthem fast? They are ALL in my store! All my anthem arrangements are also available for Orchestra, Recorders, Saxophones, Wind, Brass and Flexible band. If you need an anthem urgently for an instrumentation not in my store, let me know via e-mail, and I will arrange it for you FOC if possible! keithterrett@gmail.com<br> <br> Contact Publisher Related Scores

INDIVIDUAL INSTRUMENTS PART 1 of 2 (Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion).  This four act contemporary opera, original libretto and music, by 21st century American composer James Nathaniel Holland is the story of the triumph of Love over Evil, however delayed, and the power of keeping steadfast to one’s righteous promise.  Based on the German fairy tale The Six Swans, in a kingdom, during Saxon times, the murderous daughter of an evil entity, Ravia, infiltrates and takes over the lives of a royal family due to the King’s rash promise to marry her many years before. The royal children are sent away by their father for safety to a hidden, woodland cottage, but Ravia discovers where they are and hexes the younger siblings, turning them into swallows.  Usha, the eldest, escapes and flees to the wilderness and is visited by the apparition of her dead mother who explains what is going on and that Usha must swear an oath of silence for six years to break the spell and change her siblings back into human form.Five years pass and a dashing and kind king, Rohric, of another kingdom, finds Usha while hunting, falls in love with and marries her, but Usha must remain silent and cannot reveal who she is.  Ravia, who now is sole queen of the old kingdom, is invited by Rohric’s nobles with hope to secure a “proper†wedding for Rohric.  Usha is accused falsely of killing her own child by the two and is sentenced to be burned at the stake, but as the bell tolls she finally can declare her innocence.  To the crowd’s amazement her siblings change back, all truth is revealed, and for Ravia’s failure, she is dragged back to hell by demons.  Singers:  King Alfred (bass), Ravia (soprano), Princess Usha (mezzo), Queen Mother Arna (soprano), the royal siblings (children’s/boy’s chorus), King Rohric (Tenor), The Evil Noble (baritone), An angel/a demon (bass), SATB ChorusScored for full orchestra.  Instrumentation:  picc/treble recorder, fl12, ob12, eh, cl12, bsn12, hrn 123, tpt123, trom12, tba, timp, perc.12 (bd, crash cym, ride cym with soft mallets and stick, small gong, wood blk, glk, chimes, snar, tri), hrp, stringsDuration:  2 hoursFull Orchestral Score (concert pitch), Piano Vocal Score and Instruments Parts 1 (woodwinds, brass, perc.) and Parts 2 (harp and strings) sold separately.

Brass Ensemble - Digital Download SKU: A0.999619 Composed by Peter Benoit. Arranged by Marc Goris. Romantic Period. Score and parts. 15 pages. Brassery Publications #6025981. Published by Brassery Publications (A0.999619). The Duke of Alva's entry into Brussels from The Pacification of Ghent, duration : 2 min music : Peter Benoit arr. : Marc Goris Peter Benoit composed music based on the historical drama with the title 'De Pacificatie van Gent' by Emiel Van Goethem. Because of the combination of drama and music he defined the piece as a lyrical drama. He completed The Pacification of Ghent on 11 July 1876, the world premiere happening on 3 September at the Ghent Municipal Theatre. On 8 November 1576 a treaty was proclaimed from the balcony of the city hall in Ghent between the different regions of the southern and the northern Netherlands. This Pacification of Ghent occurred after the revolt against the Spanish occupation of Philip the Second and was the great ideal of William of Orange: he was striving for unity in the seventeen provinces in the Netherlands as well as for freedom of religion. Furthermore the treaty stipulated that the Spanish troops were to be removed from the Netherlands. Although this treaty was observed for only three years, the Pacification was embellished with a mythical aura in the Flanders of the 19th century. King Philip II sent the Duke of Alva to Brussels on 22 August 1567, at the head of a powerful army. On arrival, Alva replaced Margaret of Parma, the sister of the Spanish king, as head of the civil jurisdiction. He decided that the local nobility was in open rebellion against the king and supported the new Protestant teachings, heresy in his view. A few days later, on 5 September 1567, Alva established the Council of Troubles, popularly known in the Netherlands as the Court of Blood, to prosecute those responsible for the riots of 1566, especially those who were deemed heretics. Alba also targeted the local Catholic nobility, who favoured dialogue and opposed outside intervention. Two of the three heads of the Flemish nobility, the Count of Egmont, a Catholic General for Philip II, who had led the cavalry that defeated the French at the Battle of San Quentin, and Philip de Montmorency, Count of Horn, were arrested. The court sentenced both counts to death. The Major of Antwerpen, Anthony van Stralen, Lord of Merksem and Jan van Casembroot were other famous victims of the bloody repression, along with a large group of other heretics. The condemned persons were executed on 5 June 1568 in the Town Hall Square in Brussels. Alva had little confidence in Flemish justice, which he perceived as sympathetic to the defendants, and witnessed the executions in person.

Brass Quintet - Intermediate - Digital Download By Randy Travis, Roger Miller. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Individual Part, Score, Set of Parts. 8 pages. Published by Music for all Occasions
An arrangement of the evergreen top hit song from 1964 ''King of the Road'', set for classical Brass Quintet. "King of the Road" is a song written by country singer Roger Miller, who first recorded it in November 1964. The lyrics tell of the day-to-day life of a hobo who, despite being poor (a "man of means by no means"), revels in his freedom, describing himself humorously and cynically as the "king of the road". It was Miller's fifth single for Smash Records. The popular crossover record hit No. 1 on the US Country chart, No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, and No. 1 on the Easy Listening surveys. It was also No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart, and in Norway. Miller recalled that the song was inspired when he was driving and saw a sign on the side of a barn that read, "Trailers for sale or rent".[6] This would become the opening line of the song. The song has been covered by many other artists, including George Jones, Dean Martin, Val Doonican, Jack Jones, James Booker, The Fabulous Echoes, Boney M., R.E.M., Johnny Paycheck, Glen Campbell, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Boxcar Willie, Randy Travis, Rangers, James Kilbane, John Stevens, the Statler Brothers, Rufus Wainwright and Teddy Thompson, Giant Sand, Peligro, The Proclaimers, Ray Conniff Singers, The Reverend Horton Heat, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Jim White. James "The King" Brown (an Elvis impersonator) performed the song for a 2001 Audi commercial on German TV.[7] Of R.E.M.'s version, a shambolic, drunken, offhand rendering, guitarist Peter Buck would later comment, "If there was any justice in the world, Roger Miller should be able to sue for what we did to this song." "King of the Road" was performed live by Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Marty Stuart, Dwight Yoakam and Dolly Parton during Miller's posthumous induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame at the 1995 CMA Awards ceremony. The song is featured in Wim Wenders' 1976 film Im Lauf der Zeit (In the Course of Time; English title Kings of the Road). It is also played at the beginning of Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Brokeback Mountain, Into the Wild (2007), Traveller (1997), and Swingers (1996). Miller performs it in the concert film The Big T.N.T. Show. The recording by The Proclaimers is included in the film The Crossing (1990). Near the end of their official music video, the pair are shown reading a newspaper whose headline is "Roger Miller, King of Plugs". Miller's recording appears in an episode of the Super Dave TV show, where Super Dave Osborne (Bob Einstein) sings along while sitting at a piano mounted on top of his tour bus. The bus eventually goes into a low tunnel, slamming into the piano and Osborne and pushing them off the bus and onto the ground. A send-up version by English entertainer Billy Howard was a British chart hit in 1976. A German take by the band Wise Guys exists, the parody referring to speeding on the Autobahn.

Kyrie - by Francesco Durante; Brass Quartet – Intermediate – Digital Download. “Kyrieâ€, originally written for a four-part vocal ensemble by Francesco Durante, has now been transcribed, edited and arranged by Regis Bookshar, for a Brass Quartet, consisting of 1 Bb Trumpet, 1 French Horn, 1 Trombone and 1 Tuba. It would be a welcomed addition to any music library. This short composition, which lasts less than two minutes, will provide many students with the opportunity to practice breath control because of its long phrases, and to help them to continue to develop good intonation because many of the phrases cadence on a unison note. This selection could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services. It is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (8 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from the Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble’s extensive music library which are being made available for the first time. We have performed the Trumpet Quartet version of this composition for many church services, especially funerals, when we were asked to supply something more somber and introspective rather than the louder, more festive music which many people come to expect from a Trumpet Ensemble. Francesco Durante was an Italian composer who was born on March 31, 1684 at Frattamaggiore, in the Kingdom of Naples. At an early age he entered the Conservatorio dei poveri di Gesu Cristo, in Naples, where he received lessons from Gaetano Greco. Later he became a pupil of Alessandro Scarlatti at the Conservatorio di Sant’Onofrio. He is said to have succeeded Scarlatti in 1725 at Sant’Onofrio and to have remained there until 1742, when he succeeded Nicola Porpora as head of the Conservatorio di Santa Maria de Loreto, also in Naples. He held this post for thirteen years, until his death on September 30, 1755. His fame as a teacher was considerable, and, unlike his Neapolitan contemporaries, who attracted international notice with their operas, Francesco Durante achieved recognition through his church music, along with some vocal chamber and instrumental works. His concern was not quantity. A complete collection of Durante’s works, consisting almost exclusively of sacred music, was presented by Gaspare Selveggi, a Neapolitan art collector and music theorist, to the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris. The imperial library of Vienna also preserves a valuable collection of Durante’s manuscripts. The fact that Durante never composed for the stage brought him an exaggerated reputation as a composer of sacred music. He was considered one of the best church composers of his style and period. In his masses, requiems, litanies and Lamentations, he could provide strong expressive moments, as he does in this “Kyrieâ€. In addition to this arrangement for a Brass Quartet, Regis Bookshar has also made other arrangements of this selection. There are Quartets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may find something else that may also suit your needs. I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar, as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are being added as often as possible. I’m certain that this beautiful arrangement of Francesco Durante’s “Kyrie†will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.

Full Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.746971 Composed by Montenegrin folk song. Arranged by Keith Terrett. 20th Century,Multicultural,Patriotic,Praise & Worship,Traditional,World. 27 pages. Keith Terrett #5205655. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.746971). The National Anthem of Montenegro arranged for Symphony Orchestra. There are versions for Brass Quintet & String Orchestra in my on-line stores.Oj, svijetla majska zoro (Montenegrin Cyrillic: „Ој, Ñвијетла мајÑка зоро, trans. Oh, Bright Dawn of May) is the official National anthem of Montenegro adopted in 2004. Before becoming the anthem, it was a popular folk song of the Montenegrins, with many variations of its text. The oldest one is dated to the 2nd half of the 19th century, known as Oh, Bright Dawn of Heroism, oh!, a popular Montenegrin folk song.It was played in public for the first time in 1863 in the national theater in Belgrade. It was a component song of the Battle of Grahovo or blood feud in Montenegro (Бој на Грахову или крвна оÑвета у Црној Гори) heroic play in three parts. It is unknown if the text’s authors are also the play’s, namely the following Montenegrin composer/writers: the father of Marko Car Jovan Car and an unknown Obrad Vitković. The play and the Montenegrin folk song was also played/sung in the National Theater again in 1870 and 1876. Its first record in Montenegro itself dates to 1887, when it was included into the regular school program of Montenegrin national songs for pupils in the 3rd grade. It was reconfirmed in the teacher’s plan for Montenegrin schools of 1888, which speculates that it must have been an established folk song for decades by then.Sekule Drljević, party strongman of a minor political party which was active in the Yugoslavian Kingdom in Montenegro known as the Montenegrin Federalist Party, rewrote the text and published it in 1937 in the book of then’s Croatian writer of Montenegrin origins Savić Marković Å tedimlija known as Crvena Hrvatska (Red Croatia), which confounded the thesis not of a Serb ethnic origin of the Montenegrins, which was the dominant one back then, but rather from the Croats. Its name was Eternal Ours… (VjeÄna naÅ¡a). When Nikola Hercigonja wrote down Oh, Bright Dawn of May shortly after WWII ended after 1945, he erroneously concluded that Drljević was the original wholesale author of this song, which also led to its considerable decline in popularity as a Montenegrin folk song altogether. The song survived until today under various names as a popular Montenegrin folk song under the name Oh, Bright Dawn of May (Oj svijetla majska zoro). This version of the song has been one of the several versions proposed in 1993 during the first discussion on the official anthem, however, on which there was no consensus because of the disputed melodic value.Need an anthem fast? Boudicca, Queen of the Iceni

Brass Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1027894 Composed by William Elsom. Contemporary. Score and parts. 46 pages. Will Elsom #3053855. Published by Will Elsom (A0.1027894). Programme Notes Boudicca became the Queen of the Iceni upon the death of her husband, Prasutagus. The Iceni had lived in relative peace with the Romans, with Prasutagus living as a client king, paying tribute to Rome. The Romans refused to accept a woman as the ruler, and sought to assume total control. To demonstrate its superiority, a Roman Legion attacked the Iceni, captured Boudicca and made her watch as her daughters were raped. She sought revenge, allying the Iceni with the Trinovantes under her command, and wreaked havoc, destroying many Roman settlements. Boudicca was only stopped when Rome sent one of the best generals of the time, Seutonius Paulinus. Seutonius has been depicted offering Boudicca surrender with honour and her life, but when she rejected this, his tactical acumen proved superior, and all the Iceni and Trinovantes were wiped out. 1 – Boudicca Unites the Tribes The piece opens with the initial statement of Boudicca’s theme. Figure 3 depicts Boudicca’s reign as the leader of the Iceni, interspersed with a sadder theme depicting her lonely widowhood. Figure 4 sees the tribes called together with a drinking song and Figure 5 is the war cry, as Boudicca gives a rousing speech, first to her own warriors then to the Trinovantes. The second time bar before Figure 7 sees the tribes fall into a restless sleep. Amid early morning mists, Figure 7 sees restless horses, with distant fanfares heard, signalling the coming of the Romans. The Romans main theme is at Figure 8, with a constant fanfare over the top, signalling the confidence of the leaders. Figure 10 sees the Iceni and Trinovantes coming slowly out of hiding, and Boudicca’s theme growing in volume until the death chords signify the tribes have prevailed. 2. The Bards Sing The tribes sing a hymn to an unnamed Pagan God. At Figure 13, the Euphonium develops Boudicca’s theme depicting Taranis, the Bard of the Iceni, singing wistfully of happier times. He then makes an impassioned speech for peace, before cutting off in mid sentence. He then sits quietly (Figure 16) fearing the future. Figure 17 gives a euphoric and hopeful rendition of the hymn, as if Taranis has not been heard. 3 – Epping NB: It is my piece, and I say Epping is as credible as anywhere as the site of the final battle, and will not enter into any correspondence on the matter! A fanfare awakens the two tribes. Figure 18 sees the tribes prepare for a final battle, and the repeated section depicts two victories at Verulanium (St Albans) and Londinium (London – then a small barracks). At Figure 20 Taranis has a vision, and tries to change Boudicca’s mind about another attack. Boudicca listens to him, but tells him the die is cast, and there is no going back. Death or Glory… The war cry ensues at Figure 21, but at Figure 22 it is the Romans’ theme heard, and the death chords (Figure 24) signify that it is the two tribes that are being slaughtered this time. Brave souls (Repiano and Flugel at 24) fight on in vain to allow Boudicca to escape. At Figure 25 Boudicca prays, but realising all is lost, at Figure 26 drinks poison. As she dies, the last thing this brave British heroine hears is the sound of the Roman’s theme, signifying Seutonius’ total victory. William Elsom, December 2004

The Best Hymns of All Time (Violin, Cello and Piano) Book 1
Piano Trio,String Ensemble Cello,Double Bass,Piano,Violin - Level 2 - Digital Download …

Piano Trio,String Ensemble Cello,Double Bass,Piano,Violin - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.522286 Composed by Various. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Praise & Worship,Sacred. Score and parts. 50 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #6596257. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522286). We’re really excited to present our collection of sixty of the best-loved hymns ever composed, presented in three books. Arranged for violin, cello and piano they are intended either as stand-alone pieces that could be used as interludes in a service, or they could be used to accompany solo, choral or congregational singing. To make the music accessible to less experienced string players, the range of the notes has been kept fairly low so that many of the arrangements can be played in first position, though more experienced players would probably want to avoid open strings. The cello part does not follow the bass but instead plays an independent tenor line using to the mid to upper range of the instrument. The top note in the cello part is the F sharp above the bass clef. The piano part has been kept as straightforward as possible with the left hand playing the bass part. To extend the possible uses of this collection, there’s also a melody part printed in the bass clef, an octave lower than the violin part. This could of course be used for cello solo or indeed for any other bass clef instrument. Included in the 50-page PDF file is an optional bass part which follows the piano left hand and could be used for string bass or bass guitar. With such a small ensemble, a conductor is hardly necessary and to save on costs the pianist reads from the score. For this reason, the piano part in the score has been slightly enlarged. Book 1 contains the following twenty popular hymns: Abide with Me (Eventide); All Glory, Laud and Honor (St. Theodulph); All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name (Coronation); All Through the Night (Ar Hyd y Nos); City of God, How Broad and Far (Richmond - Haweis); Fairest Lord Jesus (Crusader’s Hymn); Fight the Good Fight (Duke Street); Forth in Thy Name (Angel's Song, Song 34); Guide Me, O Thou Great Redeemer (Cwm Rhondda); He who Would Valiant Be (Monk’s Gate); Holy, Holy, Holy! (Nicea); I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say (Kingsfold); Jesu, Lover of my Soul (Aberystwyth); Nearer my God to Thee (Bethany); Now Thank We All Our God (Nun Danket); O Worship the King (Hanover); Rejoice, the Lord is King (Darwall’s 148th); Soldiers of Christ, Arise (Diademata); The Lord’s my Shepherd (Crimmond); What a Friend we Have in Jesus (Converse). The music has been set in string-friendly keys so they are not compatible with the brass or wind publications of the same name. The audio samples include Abide with Me; All Through the Night; I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say; Nearer my God to Thee and What a Friend we Have in Jesus.

Listen to the Mocking Bird
Brass Quartet

(+)
Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1148567 Composed by Music by Richard Milburn. Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Country,Folk,Historic,Traditional. 27 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #748729. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.1148567). Listen to the Mocking Bird was first published in 1855. The melody originated with Richard Milburn, a Philadelphia African-American who has been described variously as a panhandling busker and as a musically inclined barber. A songwriter and publisher by the name of Septimus Winner heard Milburn's tune, arranged it, added words, put it into print and claimed credit for its creation under the pseudonym Alice Hawthorne. Supposedly, Winner sold the rights to the song for five dollars. Listen to the Mocking Bird grew to be one of the most popular songs of the mid-19th century, a real hit. Its sheet music, by one estimate, sold more than 20 million copies. It was sung and performed particularly often during the Civil War, and troops used its melody as a marching tune. It remains somewhat of a standard and has been recorded numerous times, especially as a favorite of bluegrass musicians. In the lyrics, the singer is remembering his loved one. She has passed away but he recalls their good life together. They particularly enjoyed the call of the mocking bird, which even now is singing o'er her grave. This arrangement opens in E-flat major with Trumpet 1 introducing the sweetly sad melody, I'm dreaming now of Hally. After the introduction, the tempo picks up to allegro and whirls along. It does slow down several times, and there are four one-measure deviations from the 4/4 time signature: one 6/4, two 2/4s and one 1/4. At measure 65, the key changes to B-flat major for the finale. Trumpets 1 and 2 each play one A-above-their-staff eighth note as their highest pitch; the rest of the music stays well within the normal playing range of the five instruments. Completed in 2022, performance time runs about 3 minutes, 23 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge. Farewell Celebration (for Brass Quintet)

Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1158678 Composed by Dr. Daniel N. Thrower. 20th Century,Chamber,Classical,Historic. 30 pages. Https://gildedmusicpress.com/ #758696. Published by https://gildedmusicpress.com/ (A0.1158678). The opening of this 4-minute piece is dance-like, intimating a celebratory mood up front—alone at first, but shared with the ensemble throughout the piece. After much celebration, the piece ends solemnly, as if giving each other final hugs and good-byes. Every Airman has a story to tell. “Farewell Celebration†is part of my story as an Airman musician. It is a fitting farewell to the Heartland of America Band stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue, Nebraska, and to the entire American Midwest, as my family and I finalized our plans to uproot for an extraordinary three-year adventure in Asia. Work on this composition began toward the end of July and beginning of August 2021 as a melody with instructions to be the opening of a brass quintet piece, beginning with trumpet alone. It remained in that state until January 2022 when I entered this sketch into the computer to be worked on sporadically along with several other works in progress. When I contracted Covid-19 in July 2022, all of these works and other incipient pieces received attention, but this one more than most others. In the fall, I felt an urgency to complete it as a sentimental gesture of enthusiastic good-byes due to many life changes taking place. In particular, my fourth son, Paul, was departing for two years for Brazil. I was compelled to complete this work before he left on October 17, 2022, which I accomplished the day prior to his departure. In addition to Paul’s farewell, two co-workers with whom I had worked closely in the Air Force brass quintet called “Offutt Brass,†were also moving on with new exciting chapters in their lives. MSgt Ben Kadow, our fantastic trombonist, had received an assignment to move to Germany, leaving us on November 8. And MSgt Ryan Heseltine, our unparalleled French horn player, retired at the end of the year. On top of all that, in September I was given an assignment to move to Japan the following summer. Some farewells are more difficult to endure than others, though all seem to have varied brands of profound emotion. In contrast to saying good-bye to a loved one who passes away, all of these farewells were joyful, albeit poignant. “Farewell Celebration†is dedicated to my son Paul, to my outstanding professional colleagues, Ben Kadow and Ryan Heseltine, and to all our friends and family members who we left behind as we moved to Japan.

Tipplers Revel (XCIX Utres Cervisiae in Muro and other bacchanalian airs)

Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1093770 Composed by F. Leslie Smith. Folk,Holiday,Traditional. Score and parts. 57 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #697853. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.1093770).     The dictionary defines revel as “a time or instance of carefree fun.†The verb tipple refers to the imbibing of spirits. A tippler is one who drinks beer, wine, whiskey or other such spirituous liquids. So a tipplers revel would be a gathering of folks who, in the words of Dolly Parton’s “Two Doors Down,†are “laughing and drinking and having a party.†    This Tipplers Revel is a compilation of traditional drinking songs. It begins and ends with that bane of school trips, faculty sponsors, bus drivers and chaperones, “99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall.†And between those two bookends come “Rye Whiskey,†“Little Brown Jug,†“Landlord, Fill the Flowing Bowl,†“Jimmy Crack Corn,†“Beer, Beer, Beer (An Ode to Charlie Mops, The Man Who Invented Beer),†“Hot Time in the Old Town Tonight,†“Wein, Weib und Gesang [Wine, Woman, and Song],†“Drink to Me Only with Thine Eyes,†“There Is a Tavern in the Town,†“Good Night, Ladies,†“How Dry I Am,†and brief quotes from about a half dozen other melodies associated with quaffing.     For the most part, this arrangement’s time signature is 4/4 and should be played at about 120 BPM. There are, however, two sections of 3/4 time, one of which is marked “tempo di valse,†and the opening and ending few measures should be played rather slowly.     The music should be well within the normal range of the group. Possible exceptions: trumpets play their A above the staff a couple of times.     There are quite a few 16th notes in the allegro sections. (And one could make the argument that at least two sections ought to have been written in 6/8 time. But they weren’t.)     Completed in 2022, performance time runs about 6 minutes, 43 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge. He would like to receive your suggestions, comments, corrections and criticisms. Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.911345 By Keith Terrett. By Various. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Jazz,Spiritual,Traditional. 43 pages. Keith Terrett #517391. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.911345). Four Early Jazz Classics from the USA for Brass Quintet includes: 1)Little Brown Jug:It was originally a drinking song. It remained well known as a folk song into the early 20th century. Like many songs which make reference to alcohol, it enjoyed new popularity during the Prohibition era. In 1939, bandleader Glenn Miller recorded and broadcast his swing instrumental arrangement of the tune with great success, and the number became one of the best known orchestrations of the American Big Band era. 2)Frankie & Johnny:Frankie and Johnny (sometimes spelled Frankie and Johnnie; also known as Frankie and Albert or just Frankie) is a traditional American popular song. It tells the story of a woman, Frankie, who finds that her man Johnny was making love to another woman and shoots him dead. Frankie is then arrested; in some versions of the song she is also executed. 3)Tin Roof Blues:Tin Roof Blues is a jazz composition by the New Orleans Rhythm Kings first recorded in 1923. It was written by band members Paul Mares, Ben Pollack, Mel Stitzel, George Brunies and Leon Roppolo. The tune has become a jazz standard and is one of the most recorded and often played New Orleans jazz compositions. 4)Battle Hymn of the Republic:The Battle Hymn of the Republic, also known as Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory outside of the United States, is a song by American writer Julia Ward Howe using the music from the song John Brown’s Body. Howe’s more famous lyrics were written in November 1861, and first published in The Atlantic Monthly in February 1862. The song links the judgment of the wicked at the end of time (Old Testament, Isaiah 63; New Testament, Rev. 19) with the American Civil War. Since that time, it has become an extremely popular and well-known American patriotic song. Arranged here for Brass Quintet, this arrangement is available for most ensembles of your choice, e-mail for other arrangements. An excellent selection for your next concert!

Brass Ensemble Trombone,Trumpet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1092447 Composed by Francesco Durante. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Baroque,Instructional,Sacred. Score and parts. 8 pages. Regis Bookshar #696539. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.1092447). Kyrie - by Francesco Durante; Brass Quartet – Intermediate – Digital Download. “Kyrieâ€, originally written for a four-part vocal ensemble by Francesco Durante, has now been transcribed, edited and arranged by Regis Bookshar, for a Brass Quartet, consisting of 2 Bb Trumpets and 2 Trombones.
