Brass Quintet - Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by English folk melody. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Christian, Sacred, Christmas. Score, Set of Parts. 15 pages. Published by Con Spirito Music
"The Truth From Above," aka "[This Is] the Truth Sent From Above," and sometimes known as "The Herefordshire Carol," is an English folk melody that was collected by Ralph Vaughan Williams in 1909, used in his Fantasia on Christmas Carols (1912) and and published in Eight Traditional English Carols (1919).

Its text tells of God's creation of man and woman, their placement in Paradise, their sin and its subsequent consequences for all humanity, the nativity of Christ, His example and teaching, and His promise of salvation for all who believe in Him. Another text, "The Great Forerunner of the Morn," which tells of John the Baptist's preparation for the Christ, is also sung to the tune.

The Dorian-mode melody uses the first through fifth tones, and the seventh tone, of that mode. Although collected by Vaughan Williams just after the turn of the 20th century, its chant-like quality, both melodically and rhythmically, is reminiscent of centuries-old music.

This arrangement features solo tuba on the first presentation of the tune followed by the full ensemble in full harmony, a key change and canonic presentation by horn and trombone, and a return to the original key and concluding statement by full ensemble with harmonic variation.

The Huron Carol — brass quintet
Brass Quintet: 2 trumpets, horn, trombone, tuba
Brass Ensemble,Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SK…

Brass Ensemble,Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1147711 Composed by Traditional French Melody. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Christian,Christmas,Holiday,Sacred,Traditional. Score and parts. 16 pages. Con Spirito Music #747929. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1147711). “The Huron Carol†is the popular name for a Christmas song written in the language of the Wendat, an indigenous people of Canada — their name meaning “people of the island†or “dwellers on a peninsula†— nicknamed “Huron†(“boar's headâ€) by French explorers and traders due to the bristly hairstyle of Wendat men.The song began as a tool for teaching and converting the Wendat to Christianity, and it was likely written in the early 1640s by the French Jesuit missionary, Jean de Brébeuf. In Wendat, the song is titled “Jesous Ahatonnia,†which means “Jesus is Born.†The song's melody is based on a traditional French folk song, “Une Jeune Pucelle†(“A Young Maidâ€). Jean de Brébeuf’s lyrics present the Nativity story using images and ideas that would have been familiar to the Wendat. Angels are “spirits†and “sky peopleâ€; the Magi (wise men) are “elders,†and as an act of reverence they oil Jesus’ scalp, a practice Wendat people would have recognized. Today, “The Huron Carol's†most well-known lyrics, beginning “'Twas in the moon of winter-time,†were written by Canadian poet Jesse Middleton and published in 1927 in a small illustrated book titled “The First Canadian Christmas Carol.â€Middleton’s text is not a translation, but a complete rewriting of “Jesous Ahatonnia†for English speakers, and bears almost no relation to the original Wendat text. Middleton relied on stereotypes, critics say, painting a picture of an indigenous Nativity in a “lodge of broken bark,†with “hunter braves†replacing shepherds, and “gifts of fur and beaver pelt†delivered by “chiefs from far.†Still, the carol has long been popular, perhaps in part due to its refrain, “Jesus your King is born, Jesus is born. In excelsis gloria!†and its pairing with the easily singable “Une Jeune Pucelle†tune. This arrangement for brass quintet takes a contemplative, lyrical approach, featuring rich harmonies to the chant-like tune and contrasts in dynamics and tempo that evoke both the quiet peace and solemnity accompanying the birth of Christ.©Copyright 2022 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). Brass Ensemble Trombone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.792562 Composed by traditional Christmas music. Arranged by Ronald Babcock. Christian,Christmas,Classical,Holiday. Score and parts. 14 pages. Gordon Cherry #5008583. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792562). The Wassail Song is a secular holiday song dating back to the 12th Century. It is traditionally sung at Christmas, but actually does not celebrate the nativity, rather the New Year! The word Wassail is an olde English word for a spiced wine or ale. It was common to go door-to-door toasting to one's Good Health. Ron Babcock’s lively arrangement of about 5 minutes is inspired by Ralph Vaughan Williams and is for intermediate to advanced performers.
