A strong ensemble shout chorus that will bring down the house. It is very playable. Solos - Guitar, Tenor Saxophone, muted Trumpet/Flugelhorn (or just open it up). This composition was written for Nolan Ryan Henderson, a student murdered in Mississippi.Â It begins with a drum build-up and a strong beginning. Letter A is written for a Guitar solo to go to town. The Saxophone part will be played as background for the last time.Â Letters B and C are full band sections. Trumpets with shakes, Trombones with slide falls throughout, and a Saxophone Soli at letter C leading up to letter D, the open solo section.Letter D is the open solo section for any instrument let freedom ring. The ensemble backgrounds are to be played every even number of repeated cycles or the last time. Allow the Guitarist to close it out by going into the shout section of the letter E.Letter E is the famous riff until the next, the last measure with the railroad tracks. At the pause, allow the lead soloist or the drummer to work until the last note is cued. If the spirit is still high, the final note can be played with directed quarter note hits leading back to the 5th measure of letter E (shout section). Play it straight to the end with no railroad tracks during this time.

At the Plaza A Holiday in Naples is a five-movement programmatic work for solo piano composed in 2021 by Andrei Hadap. Composed in the late nineteenth century style, it depicts a lone traveller, on holiday, who explores the city of Naples in the same period. Each movement is a short scene that narrates the traveller’s experience during his visit through music. The first movement, At the Carnival, in sonata form, begins with a slow introduction as the traveller sets foot at the pier in the morning. The main allegro begins as he hears the carnival from a distance and proceeds to explore, represented by the scherzando-like figures. Short episodes of tranquillity interrupt the carnival as the traveller, in a reverie, looks out to admire the Neapolitan coastline. The piece ends as the carnival fades out into the distance. Contrasting with the festivities, the traveller encounters A Merchant at the Spinning Wheel, the title of the second movement. This encounter depicts the reality of the poverty-stricken region at the time. Here, the merchant is depicted in a trance-like state, as the monotonous arpeggiated figures at the piano are heard throughout. Later in the piece, we hear the agitated merchant spinning the wheel faster, distracted by the carnival, but eventually calms down towards the end. The third movement, In the Ballroom, the traveller enters a ballroom, observing the dancers from a distance. He finds himself drawn to a young woman, though slightly nervous, whom he invites to dance. In the middle section, we hear the awkwardness between them as they both stumble frequently. Eventually, he regains his composure and the two dance well into the evening. In the fourth movement At the Opera, the traveller then goes to a nearby opera house where he walks in during a love duet between a tenor and soprano. The final movement At the Plaza, the traveller encounters the carnival once again. This time, they are dancing a tarantella, a Neapolitan folk dance depicting the involuntary muscle spasms from a venomous spider bite. The traveller joins in and dances with them until sunrise.

The German expression Zwischen den Jahren (literally Between the Years) refers to the last days of December (from Christmas) and the first days of January (up to Three King's Day). An English equivalent might be Boxing Week. This piece is called this way because it was composed ... between the years! Concretely, on 31 December 2009 and 1 January 2010 in the small village of Worpswede, North Germany. Musically, the piece is mostly based on major seventh chords with their fundamentals notes related by thirds. The harmony has also a Lydian flavor which becomes most obvious in the central section. Structurally, is roughly A-B-B-A, whereby the reappearance of a previous section is quite varied. A hard-hitting Flamenco guitar arrangement for Fandango de Huelva based on standard traditional themes. The Fandango de Huelva is a relatively fast and rhythmically strict Fandango compared to Fandangos from other regions in Andalusia (Granada, Ronda, Málaga, Almería) that are often slower and without a steady rhythm (sans mesure). Rhythmically, Fandango de Huelva consists of a repetition of a six beat phrase, that Flamencos refer to as a compás, with accents on the third and fifth beats (1 2 3 4 5 6). This is notated in the score as a repeated sequence of 4/4 and 2/4 measures with the first beat of the compás falling on the third beat of the first 4/4 measure. The first accented beat in the compás falls on the first beat of the following 2/4 measure and the second accented beat falls on the first beat of the 4/4 measure following. This asymmetrical distribution of accents in the phrase gives the Fandango a kind of choppy almost stop-and-go flow. Note the number of holds that occur in the melodic passages. These are signs of a feature of the Fandango that is used much more in the slower versions where the singer or guitarist can vary the rhythmic flow at will. The melodic passages in the piece are based on traditional songs for Fandango de Huelva, much as Brahms’ Hungarian Dances were based on traditional romani melodies from Hungary. The piece ends with a so-called Macho, a finale, in Verdiales, a fast Fandango rhythm from the region of Malaga. The Verdiales runs in standard 3/4 measures.I learned the Fandango de Huelva rhythm in my studies with Juan González “Triguito” in Madrid in the late 1960’s. I gathered further rhythmic and melodic material working with other Flamenco guitarists and singers, especially in El Mesón de la Guitarra just off the Plaza Mayor, during my years in Spain.The Fandango de Huelva is a fast and lively style (palo) of Flamenco with lots of good old-fashioned strumming (rasgueados) together with long continuous melodic passages. There is quite a bit of tapping on the face of guitar (golpes) in combination with the strumming and left hand legatos. Some passages are played with the thumb in alzapúa, meaning that the thumb strikes in triplets down, up, and down again in rapid sequence in combination with glopes. The alzapúa and tapping really add to the gitano-andalusian flavour of the piece. The last measures of the finale in abanico (fanning) rasqueado style are a powerful sendoff. Audiences have always enjoyed the positive spirit and energy that the Fandango de Huelva radiates.
