All three were pianists, involved as performers and composers.Ethel May Earnist, (1888-1957), composer of Chicken Chowder grew up in Omaha, NE and worked there in a music store. She moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she was employed as a musician by J.W. Jenkins' Sons Music Co.Irene Giblin (1888-1974), composer of Peanuts was born in St Louis. She worked at St. Louis music stores, playing the piano for several hours a day to convince the customers to buy the latest scores.Imogene Giles (1877-1964), composer of Red Peppers was a music teacher, a pianist for silent films and composer. She worked in the Giles music store in Quincy, Illinois for her brothers, who published her compositions.The music, impeccably arranged by Elliot Chasanov is appropriate for advanced performers and is score for Piccolo Trumpet, Trumpet in B-flat, Horn, Trombone and Tuba.The works may be performed as a suite or individually.

Arranged wind quintet Clarinet In A and Horn in D (Alt Clt in Bb and Horn in F included) The Slavonic Dances (Czech: Slovanské tance) are a series of 16 orchestral pieces composed by AntonÃn Dvořák in 1878 and 1886 and published in two sets as Opus 46 and Opus 72 respectively. Originally written for piano four hands, the Slavonic Danceswere inspired by Johannes Brahms's own Hungarian Dances and were orchestrated at the request of Dvořák's publisher soon after composition. The pieces, lively and full of national character, were well received at the time and today are among the composer's most memorable works, occasionally making appearances in popular culture. This is my arrangement of no.6 (In some versions listed as no.3) :a gentle Allegretto scherzando: it suits the wind quintet I have attempted to give the players somewhere to breath, so they are not always tutti.

Georg Philipp Telemann – Polish Dances from the Rostock Manuscript TWV 45 (Danse d`Polones / Danse Polonie)Telemann was seduced by Polish music, especially by his dances and popular musicI became acquainted there and also in Krakau with Polish and Moravian music in its true, barbaric beauty […] […] it is impossible to imagine the fantastic musical ideas they presented between dances when the dancers rested and the musicians improvised music together [‘jammed’] to fill out the time. Anyone who paid very close attention could pick up in 8 days sufficient musical ideas to last a lifetime.(Telemann’s autobiography, published in Mattheson’s Ehren-Pforte, Hamburg, 1740)It is easy to understand, through Telemann’s own words, the great influence that Polish music and Polish dances had on Telemann. It was in 1705 when Telemann become Kapellmeister for the court of Count Erdmann II of Promnitz at Sorau (now Żary, in Poland), His career there was cut short in early 1706 by the hostilities of the Great Northern War but his contact with Polish music marked him for life.These Polish dances found in Rostock are a reflection of the music that Telemann heard and transcribed. A reflection of that barbaric beauty.The manuscript was discovered in 1986 at the University of Rostock. It consists of two volumes. One of the volumes contains the violin part and the other the bass part.

Shadow Dances is one of more than 300 piano improvisations Dan Chadburn first created in 1996, each one played on an electronic midi piano into a computer's memory using MOTU's Performer software. In late 1997, Dan transcribed nine of these improvisations, including Shadow Dances, and recorded each of them in early 1998 at Bias Studios in Springfield, Virginia, along with four new improvisations. These thirteen tracks were then released on Dan's 1998 award-winning album, Solo Piano.In her review at MainlyPiano.com, Kathy Parsons wrote, Dan Chadburn's debut recording is a soaring collection of thirteen wonderful compositions and improvisations. Some solo piano albums seem a bit empty and in need of accompaniment, but Dan clearly indicates why solo piano can be the most expressive of any musical medium. The colorful pieces are arranged in approximate order of difficulty, so you can feel free to pick and mix according to the needs of the students. Most of the pieces use eighth notes (quavers), quarter notes (crotchets), half notes (minims) and whole notes (semibreves). Each piece takes up just one page. With attractive melodies and interesting harmonies several of them could be strung together to create a suite for a student recital. Many of the fingerings are provided but sometimes the choice of fingering is left for the teacher and student to decide. For more advanced students, these pieces can serve a useful function either as sight-reading exercises or for transposing at sight, a skill that is sometimes neglected. Performance time is about five minutes and fifty seconds, using the suggested tempo markings. The introduction includes a cadenza for the two trumpet players. Ranges are reasonable, except for the trumpet I part which has a written D above high C in the cadenza. The French Horn part has several instances of high staff tessitura and ascends to Bb and B above the staff a couple of times. The following keys are featured: c minor, C Major, Eb Major, Bb Major. There are also excursions to modal harmonies and juxtapositions of various hemiola-type rhythmic patterns. Trumpet, French Horn, and trombone performers must be able to employ multiple tonguing; and all players must demonstrate bravura playing as well as a delicate waltz style.

The first Volta uses interesting and catchy syncopation, giving the impression that it’s in duple time time but it’s written in triple time.In this series, Renaissance Hits for Wind Instruments, some of the most well-known dances from Terpsichore are included. They are all attractive pieces and are sure to be popular at any concerts or end-of-semester events. They are fairly easy to play too. The flexible arrangement makes them playable by all sorts of non-standard ensembles. The keyboard part enables you to use the piece as a solo or duet and trio for mixed instruments. The dances are stylized by preserving the flavor of the dances while treating the material in a more developmental and contrapuntal manner. Kalamationos is the most popular Greek dance and is Peloponnesian in origin. Like its cousin, the Syrtos the national dance of Greece, it is in 7/8 meter grouped as 3-2-2. The Syrtos is a more dragging dance while the Kalamationos is more bouncy. Zeibekiko has its origin in the Eastern Aegean Islands. It is in 9/4 meter at a slow tempo with a lot of syncopation. This movement is written in 3/4 for the ease in reading but preserves the phrasing of 9/4 most of the time. Hassapikos is a butcher's dance in 2/4 time with eight measure phrases. It begins moderately and increases tempo throughout the dance.
