Published by Reno Fusani (A0.998700). Here are two of Mendelssohn's short piano pieces which work really well for w.w. quintet. The first (Adagio non troppo) sounds quite like the early Richard Strauss wind pieces. The second (Presto) is a typical Mendelssohn scherzo.

Arranged by Rob Bushnell. 20th Century,Contemporary,Folk,Multicultural,Romantic Period,World. Brass Band. 71 pages. RBMusic #4580667. Published by RBMusic (A0.752355). Béla Viktor János Bartók is considered to be one of Hungary’s greatest composers (along with Franz Liszt), and is regarded as one of the most important writers of the 20th century. His music tends to reflect two trends that helped to change the sound of music in the 20th century: the breakdown of diatonic harmony; and a renewed interest in using nationalism as a source for musical inspiration. For this latter trend, Bartók turned to Hungarian folk music and become a key figure in influencing the modern use of indigenous music and techniques. In 1904, whilst at a resort in Hungary, Bartók overheard his nanny, Lidi Dósa, singing Transylvanian folk songs, which sparked a lifelong devotion to folk music. Further influenced by Strauss, Bartók started to write music based on folk songs, including his Romanian Folk Dances (Op. 8a, Sz. 43, BB 56) for piano in 1910, made up of two folk songs. The first of these dances was later orchestrated by the composer for orchestra and named Romanian Dance (Sz. 47, BB 61) and it is this piece that is available here. This arrangement is for the UK-style brass band. A recording of the original orchestral piece can be found on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuQSdNjFdrY. 2 voices and piano - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q47807 Das Liederspiel. Composed by Engelbert Humperdinck. This edition: single sheet. Singspiel version - fairy tale - Brothers Grimm - folk song - piano reduction - Hansel - Gretel - witch. Downloadable, Separate edition. Duration 55 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q47807. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q47807). German. When Engelbert Humperdinck’s fairy tale opera Hänsel und Gretel was premiered on 23 December 1893 in Weimar conducted by Richard Strauss, the work could look back on an extensive history of origin.Humperdinck’s younger sister Adelheid Wette (born in 1858) had displayed a great interest in literature in her youth and written a variety of poems for special occasions. In 1888, she wrote a fairy tale entitled Schneewittchen [Snow White] and her brother supplied some songs for this piece. Further fairy tale collaborations followed which were customarily performed within the family circle, and the first draft of the Hänsel und Gretel was begun in 1890. Adelheid’s husband would be celebrating his 34th birthday on 16 May of this year and his wife intended to surprise him with a performance of her version of this fairy tale. Her brother was allotted the task of composing the accompanying songs and, a month before the birthday, she wrote a letter to him in Mainz where Engelbert Humperdinck was among other activities working as an editor for the Schott publishing house, ordering a “very pretty folkloric†Tanzlied [Dance song], a Waldlied [Forest song] (or Echolied [Echo song]), a Schlummerlied [Lullaby] and a Kickericki-Lied [Cock-a-doodle-doo song] from her “dear sugar-sweet little brother... Engel-Bärtchen [angel beard]â€. She enclosed the corresponding verses with the letter and “for fun†also provided her own invented melody for the Schlummerlied and rhythmic suggestions for the Tanzlied. Humperdinck went straight to work and, as related in an entry in his diary, was already able to play the songs to the director of the publishing house, Dr Ludwig Strecker, by 19 April. This was the history of origin of the four songs published for the first time edited in form of their original versions in this edition Brüderchen komm’ tanz’ mit mir, Wer ruft mir im Walde doch alles nach, In den Zweigen die Vögelein und Tirelireli! ‘s ist nicht mehr früh “for two children’s voices and piano accompaniment†(see manuscript1). In his reply letter to his sister in which the fair copy of the songs were enclosed, Humperdinck wrote: “As you see, the pitch of the melodies is not too high and I have incorporated your melodies. Let me know soon whether you like the little songs. By the way, the ‘cock-a-doodle-doo’ can also be sung on one note(E flat) instead of on the four notes of the chord.â€The first performance of the song-play was held as planned within the family circle with Wettes’ two eldest daughters in the two principle roles. Spurred on by the success of the family performance, initial plans were forged to adapt the song-play into a singspiel with numerous musical numbers and rhymed dialogues; Hermann Wette participated in a draft of the text. The particell of this singspiel had been completed by Christmas 1890. Hugo Wolf and a few others however advised the composer to extend the singspiel into a through-composed fairy tale opera. Humperdinck followed this advice and worked on what he ironically termed as a “Kinderstubenweihfestspiel“ [sacred festive play for the nursery] during the next two summers in Bayreuth. Tanzliedchen [Dance song] and Morgenweckruf [Cock-a-doodle-doo song] were eventually included in the opera in a modified form.

Guitar - Advanced - Digital Download SKU: ZZ.DZ-4287 Composed by Francisco Braga. Arranged by Luciano Lima. Score. 13 pages. Les Productions d'OZ - Digital #DZ 4287. Published by Les Productions d'OZ - Digital (ZZ.DZ-4287). ISBN 9782898522048.Antônio Francisco Braga (1868-1945) belongs to the generation of Brazilian composers of the first republican period, aesthetically tied to romanticism, alongside Henrique Oswald (1852-1931), Leopoldo Miguez (1850-1902), Glauco Velásquez (1884-1914), and Barrozo Neto (1881-1941). Born in Rio de Janeiro, on April 15th, 1868, he began his musical studies at the Asilo dos Meninos Desvalidos, in 1876. In 1883, he enrolled at the Imperial Conservatório de Música where he studied harmony and counterpoint with Carlos de Mesquita – a former student of César Franck, Durand, and Massenet – and clarinet with Antônio Luís de Moura. Braga's first compositions date from this period: Sonho de Dante (1885), Dolce far niente (1886), the first Valse Romantique for piano (1886), among others. In 1887, he premiered his first symphonic work, Fantasia-Abertura. In 1890, being one of the finalists in a competition to choose the new Brazilian national anthem, Braga was awarded a scholarship to study in Europe, where he took classes with Jules Massenet at the Paris Conservatory. During this period, he wrote some of his most important symphonic works, Paysage, Cauchemar, Episódio Sinfônico, and Marabá (which was performed by Richard Strauss and the Vienna Philharmonic in 1920, in Brazil). His opera Jupyra is considered one of the greatest Brazilian compositions of that genre.Back in Brazil, he was appointed professor of counterpoint, fugue, and composition at the Instituto Nacional de Música, in 1902. There, some of the finest Brazilian composers studied with him, like Glauco Velásquez and Lorenzo Fernândez.Braga wrote operas, symphonic works, songs, sacred music, two Masses, music for piano, different chamber formations, band, and choir. He is the author of many patriotic hymns, the most popular of which is Hino à Bandeira (with lyrics by Olavo Bilac). He explored Brazilian nationalist elements in some of his works, as in Variações sobre um Tema Brasileiro and in the Trio for violin, cello and piano, whose third movement is based on a lundu (a musical genre and dance of Afro-Brazilian origin). In addition to being a composer, Braga was one of the most active conductors of his time, having been ahead of three orchestras in Rio de Janeiro: Instituto Nacional de Música, Sociedade de Concertos Sinfônicos, and Theatro Municipal. Braga conducted the Brazilian premiere of major symphonic works such as La Mer (Debussy), Pacific 231 (Honegger) besides other numerous Brazilian compositions. In 1938, he retired from Instituto Nacional de Música. He passed away on March 14th, 1945, in Rio de Janeiro.Unfortunately, Francisco Braga never wrote for the guitar. However, over a century ago his music had already been incorporated to its repertoire. According to information found in newspapers of the time, Spanish guitarist Josefina Robledo included transcriptions of pieces by Braga in her programs when she performed in Brazil: Gavota e Minuete (from the melodrama Contratador de Diamantes), in 1919, in São Paulo, and the waltz-caprice Corrupio, in 1921, in Rio de Janeiro. The piano score of Madrigal Pavane was dedicated to Alexina Leitão and published by Casa Vieira Machado, in 1901. According to the composer’s catalogue, there are two other versions of this piece: strings orchestra (1901) and quartet (which is still in manuscript). Dedicated to Braga’s childhood friend José de Souza Rocha, Timburibá (the name of a Brazilian tree) is a tango for piano from 1886, published by Narciso & Arthur Napoleão.

Instrumental Duet,Piano Euphonium,Instrumental Duet,Piano,Trombone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.927030 Composed by Franz Schubert, Kayla Roth. 20th Century,Baroque,Classical,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 27 pages. Kayla Roth #3373343. Published by Kayla Roth (A0.927030). From the composer's program notes included with this purchase:I have taken Schubert’s famous setting and arranged it in a set of musical homages to other composers. I have also included Schubert’s original theme, transposed down to F, and I would recommend playing it twice in the beginning to give your audience a good idea of it.For most of the pieces, I tried to capture the composer’s overall style; however, there are a few particular pieces that are either quoted or used as the stylistic basis, as follows: Mozart - I based this variation, stylistically, on Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major (K.467), specifically movement two (Andante), as well as some of his earliest childhood piano compositions. Symphony 40 in G minor (K.550) is quoted rhythmically. Strauss, Jr. - For inspiration, I used Du und Du, Op. 367, a waltz that is derived from various parts of his beloved operetta, Die Fledermaus. I quoted rhythms from this, as well as from Frühlingsstimmen, Op. 410. Joplin - I didn’t base this on any particular piece of Joplin’s; I tried to include elements that are common in his rags (a short introduction, arpeggiated diminished seventh chords, chromaticism, syncopation over a boom-chuck). Perhaps the best advice comes from Joplin himself: Don’t play this piece fast. It is never right to play ragtime fast. Porter - I had to include an offering from the Great American Songbook! Frank Sinatra recorded several of Porter’s well-known tunes in the 1940s, such as Easy To Love, Night and Day, and I Love You; his renditions of these songs are heavy on the schmaltz and sentimentality, which is exactly what I was trying to achieve in this variation.Bach - The minor variation! I had Fugue in G minor, BWV 578 (Little Fugue) in mind when writing this.der Jodelkönig - As Heidenröslein is a strophic, folk-songesque German piece, I thought it fitting to end the variations with an imitation of traditional Alpine yodeling. It is named in honor of Franzl Lang, the Yodelking.

Cello Solo - Advanced - Digital Download Composed by Various. Arranged by Randy Calistri-Yeh. Classical Period, Wedding, Recital, Patriotic. Solo Part. 24 pages. Published by Custom Chamber Music
Here are 10 great pieces arranged for pure solo cello - no piano required! This collection has more than 40 minutes of classical and patriotic songs ideally suited for formal recitals, wedding celebrations, and background music gigs.<br> <br> These are not just lame copies of the melody line; they are all fully worked out arrangements designed to be as rich as possible and to highlight the cello. As a professional cellist, I originally arranged these pieces for my personal use, and I have performed every one of them in public.<br> <br> These are fairly challenging pieces; I would compare their difficulty to Bach Cello Suite #2 on the easy side and Bruch Cello Concerto on the harder side. But with some practice you will have some amazing additions to your solo repertoire.<br> <br> Each of the songs in this collection is also available separately, but buying the full volume saves you over 60%.<br> <br> Volume 1 contains the following:<br> 1. Strauss Blue Danube Waltz<br> 2. Dvorak Goin' Home (Largo from "New World" Symphony #9)<br> 3. Schubert Ave Maria<br> 4. Faure Apres un reve<br> 5. Tchaikovsky Melodie<br> 6. Marais Le Tableau de l'Operation de la Taille (Depiction of a Bladder Stone Operation)<br> 7. Joplin The Entertainer<br> 8. Calistri-Yeh Variations on "My Country 'Tis of Thee"<br> 9. Sousa Stars and Stripes Forever<br> 10. Ward America the Beautiful<br> <br> Please check out the other two volumes in this series:<br> Pure Cello Volume 2: Ten More Concert Pieces for Unaccompanied Cello (S0.853843)<br> Pure Cello Volume 3: Thirty Christmas Carols for Unaccompanied Cello (S0.853851)
