Francis wrote that it was on occasion of visiting the home of a friend that the hymn was composed. It seems there were ten persons in the home that she was visiting, some converted and some still unconverted. She prayed, Lord, give me all in this house! At the end of her visit, all were converted. It was then that she penned the hymn that ends with Ever only, all for Thee! Multiple voicings, instrumental parts and a beautiful fully-orchestrated accompaniment track are available.

Programme Notes:From a young age, I was always interested in castles and history, and have visited many castles in my home country of Wales, which is sometimes called the “castle capital of the world”. At one time Wales had about 600 castles, of which over 100 are still standing, either as ruins or restored buildings. The remainder have been reduced to ditches, mounds and earthworks. Visiting these amazing historically significant buildings has allowed me to reflect on their importance and purpose. In their day they were the centres of thriving communities and it is through their value as the focus of the community, that the three movements have developed their individual characteristics. The first movement depicts a large formidable castle, towering over the neighbouring lands, exuding power, authority and law, complete with noblemen and knights; the second movement describes the pastoral scenes around the castle, and the commoners going about their ordinary lives; the third demonstrates the military function of the castle which was to protect: when coming under siege, the people eventually triumph, the enemy defeated.

Sweet, Sweet Smile is a C&W song composed by Otha Young and Juice Newton introduced by the Carpenters on their 1977 album Passage. The track features drummer Ron Tutt who regularly backed Elvis Presley.Sweet, Sweet Smile is one of the few songs recorded by the Carpenters which was chosen by Karen Carpenter rather than Richard Carpenter. Juice Newton and her bandleader Otha Young had written Sweet, Sweet Smile for Newton herself to record but Newton's label Capitol Records was not interested in the song. Newton's manager, who was a friend of the Carpenters, was playing the demo of Sweet, Sweet Smile at his home while Karen Carpenter was visiting. Karen Carpenter liked the song and brought it to the attention of her brother Richard Carpenter who'd recall: I liked it immediately...now there's one that, to me, should have done better than it did referring to the track's January 1978 release as the third single from Passage. Acknowledging the Carpenters' career decline, Richard Carpenter would add: I think if someone else had done ['Sweet, Sweet Smile'] at that time, it would have been a bigger hit.Here's your brass quintet and percussion version for enjoyment.

Written during the coronavirus pandemic, the poem expresses how quarantine can serve as a conduit for healing, how words of comfort flow despite barriers, and how the paralysis of sheltering in place generates creative movement. The music and poem draw inspiration from ancient forest wisdom, shown musically with a pentatonic scale. The tight harmonies of Locrian mode bind moss to stone and stream to its own flow. Then vocal expression bursts forth with lush harmonies as singers serenade from balconies, sharing compassion through music. Returning to the pentatonic scale, we overcome obstacles and send generosity beyond our ancient and modern world into the celestial realm. When they left, I discovered they were snacking on a blackberry bramble. Score! So I came back with a bowl to supplement our breakfast. Shortly after breakfast, my wife and I cycled to a trailhead and hiked down to a waterfall. All in one morning! As the first day drew to an end, I was already whistling a new tune. This corner of Snoqualmie inspired the melody, which I dafted on the flight back home and finished the next week. Enjoy :).

Published by Roger Brian Evernden (A0.910399). 116 was written for my mum and dad. At the time I was living in Virginia in the USA, and I was expecting mum and dad to come and visit for a holiday. Due to an unexpected illness they didn't make it. I wrote this tune for them on the day I found out that they wouldn't be visiting. It's called 116 because that was the number of our family home - 116 Hillside Avenue, in Southampton in the UK.It's a jolly melody, with some classical runs, followed by a dramatic twist in the second section. The first section has a simple bass line and structure that is fun to improvise over - when I play it the 2nd and 3rd repeats are always a bit different each time.
