Instrumental Duet Instrumental Duet,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.575854 Composed by David Warin Solomons. Arranged by Daniela Mastrandrea. 20th Century. Score and parts. 14 pages. David Warin Solomons #2028827. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.575854). Arrangement by concert pianist and composer Daniela Mastrandrea of my Sweet Suite - a four movement sequence originally written for string quintet. This 2-hands piano version is fairly difficult and requires large stretches at times, but for those who like a challenge it is well worth it. However, we decided it would be good to provide 4-hands versions as well, which are easier to perform and also available on this site. The original stories behind the movements are: 1. Marie for shame - based on a setting of the poem Marie, vous estes paresseuse - Marie for shame you keep a-bed too long, you must get up and enjoy life. 2. Nocturne is basically a segue to the first movement, in which Marie yawns and goes back to sleep! The harmonies are rich and yet somnolent. 3. Camp David is a sprightly number based on the Yiddish folksong Ikh bin a meidel in de joren - I am a maiden come of age and I am looking for a husband. 4. Blue Boar Blue is based on a poem by a friend stuck studying in his college room (Blue Boar Quad at Christ Church Oxford) but dreaming of sunny outings to the river and punting. The sound samples are electronic previews. In the case of the 4-hands versions, the pdf files include the score and also separate piano parts. The original string quintets are also available on this site.

Published by Indigo Mesa Music LLC (A0.1204372). As composed and performed by Kathleen Ryan on her CD Under the Greenwood Tree.Kathleen's notes: When we were building our home, my husband had a big goal of not making it possible for birds to nest on the house or over the porches. (Our rental home had barn swallow nests at both the front and back doors, and it was just too messy.)But the second spring after we moved in, some Say’s phoebes showed up and wanted to nest on the house; and my husband totally fell in love with them and built them a special platform — the phoebe condo. We had 5 fledglings that year! The next spring the phoebes returned! More nests, more fledglings, more joy. When I wanted music that was lively in a gentle way, and just completely happy, I naturally thought of the phoebes. Listen for the phoebe call in the middle section.Late intermediate.

Published by Forsyth Publishing (A0.932706). Using Psalm 121, this calculated 4:58 minute work was the offertory Nov 4, 1994, at UMC on the Green, Morristown, PA and I was there to hear it. While tour guide at St. John's Cathedral, Spokane, WA the Kelcec couple came by for concert per old brochure while I was using organ (she assisted her organist), became friends, they returned next year, asked how does one write music, we discussed this text and we had the first line written before they left the second time. It was performed at their church and I was there. This is that piece.

Please contact me by email at jfries@ptd.net to make a special request or to find out all that I have to offer and to express your comments or concerns.  You can also type John Fries in the searchbar to see all I have to offer. In late 1970, while the Carpenters had a concert tour in Toronto and Chicago, Richard was worried about what song should follow their previous hits (They Long to Be) Close to You and We've Only Just Begun (which was still holding the #1 spot on the Adult Contemporary charts). Their manager advised them to take a short break from their work and go to a movie theater to see the film. Richard and Karen were immediately taken with this song and agreed that it should be the follow-up to their previous hits. After returning home, they recorded it, released it in December, and it went gold in only two months. The Carpenters' success with this song helped it win the 1970 Oscar for Best Song.

Score and part. 4 pages. Gwendolyn Hellmann #880775. Published by Gwendolyn Hellmann (A0.1290072). This arrangement of We Three Kings of Orient Are is for solo double bass with piano accompaniment. It is written in the key of E minor and has two simple shifts up to 2nd position, with a few helpful fingerings indicated in the bass part. The piano part doubles the melody and is carefully notated so as not to clash with the octave of the bass melody. It has helpful eighth notes to facilitate counting the half note/quarter note rhythms. This is a great solo for beginner bassists who want something to play for the holidays! Clarinet Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble Bass Clarinet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1329286 By Hugh Levey. By Charles Coote Jnr. Arranged by Hugh Levey. 19th Century,Chamber,Children,Christmas,Holiday. 23 pages. Woodwindly.com #917264. Published by woodwindly.com (A0.1329286). Clarinet Quartet (4 Clt. or 3 Clt. + Bass Clt.) Looking for some familiar, yet very different Christmas Music? Look no further than the Snowdrift Galop written by British composer, Charles Coote Jnr. It starts off just like Jingle Bells - and the Jingle Bells theme keeps coming back, but is it actually Jingle Bells? It also has a march-like theme and a lovely Trio section. All players get to play important melodic material in this arrangement.Snowdrift Galop was published in London in 1868 in a small collection of works by various composers. The opening theme is immediately recognisable as the popular holiday favourite, Jingle Bells, which was published 11 years earlier, yet the composer gives no reference or credit to the earlier work. Although the opening theme is the same as Jingle Bells, we get a stately march instead of the familiar Jingle Bells chorus. A lovely Trio introduces another new tune which is played by clarinet 3, then bass clarinet before returning to the opening section.Charles Coote Jnr (1831-1916) was a prolific English composer of popular music, including quadrilles, waltzes and galops. His music was written for society balls and subsequently published for piano, so that others could play them at local dances or in their ownhomes. He was the son of composer and bandmaster, Charles Coote (1809-1880). Coote Snr worked for the 6th Duke of Devonshire for 30 years, conducted his private orchestra, and was referred to by the Duke as his ‘personal pianist’. Growing up in this environment would have ensured that Coote Jnr was well connected with British ‘society’.Duration - 4 minutes.

His music was written for society balls and subsequently published for piano, so that others could play them at local dances or in their ownhomes. He was the son of composer and bandmaster, Charles Coote (1809-1880). Coote Snr worked for the 6th Duke of Devonshire for 30 years, conducted his private orchestra, and was referred to by the Duke as his personal pianist. Growing up in this environment would have ensured that Coote Jnr was well connected with British society.Duration - 4 minutes.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1321517 By Marlowe Haws. By Marlowe Haws. Arranged by Marlowe Haws. 21st Century,Classical,Contemporary,Halloween,New Age. Score. 3 pages. Marlowe Music Productions #909979. Published by Marlowe Music Productions (A0.1321517). This is another of my earliest works that I have since polished up. This was the first song I ever wrote that I considered to be brilliant and really gave me the confidence and motivation to continue on my path to being an origianl composer. I've gotten tired of this talentless era that we live in where it's all about using technology to remaster and auto-tune and just cover the same old songs... This was my attempt to make something that is formless, no template for rehashing, but something truly original. I have tried to carry that spirit with my subsequent songs. I'd like to give you my art for free, but sadly this world wants me to be a slave to my employer and I'm not making enough money, so here I am trying to sell my music. I feel like the spirit of art aught to be a spirit of creation and giving. Modern art has perverted this spirit to one of copying and marketing... I hope you enjoy this, I put a lot of effort and heart into it.

String Ensemble,String Trio - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.576736 Composed by David Warin Solomons. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 7 pages. David Warin Solomons #119391. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.576736). Mysterious piece in octatonic mode, originally written for the short story The Door The pdf file contains score and parts. The sound sample is an electronic preview. High up on the grassy hill behind the town there is a door. It stands there in its frame with nothing before or behind it. It is locked shut. There is no key. We climb the hill each day. We play each side of the door, games of hide and seek. But we cannot go through the door. Each day we go there during this long sultry summer holiday. We are fascinated by the structure. Why would anyone put a door up there, in its frame, eternally locked, with nothing before or behind it? Maybe it is all that remains of an ancient house? We play, we wonder, we laugh and play, and we return regularly to our homes in time for tea. Then, one day, as we climb the hill for the umpteenth time, a lady dressed in white arrives before us. We watch her take the key out of her bag and insert it in the lock. We are too far downhill to catch up before she closes the door behind her. As we arrive, puffing and panting, Steve knocks on the door. No answer. Dave knocks on the door more forcefully. We hear a distant swish of robes. Gloria knocks, perhaps a little more timidly as the swishing sound approaches. Estelle begins to knock in her turn and the door suddenly opens wide. We all gasp as we see the lady standing there in glistening robes. Her face is hidden from view by a white shawl, but her piercing eyes still show. Children, she says, welcome all. Do come in, please, the kettle is on. You are just in time for tea. We hesitate, as well we might. How can we come in when there is nothing before or behind the door? But Estelle puts one foot inside and looks back at us with a curious expression of serenity on her face. We follow her. We look around at the new space beyond the door and at the parquet floor beneath our dew-soaked feet. As our eyes become accustomed to the brightness of the interior we catch sight of many signs of the world we have entered, but only fleetingly. They pass before our eyes in an instant and then flee beyond the range of sight. There is a staircase, a hat stand, a distant gleam of an ancient cooker, a faint whiff of scones and boiling jam. As we walk inside, our senses are overwhelmed with the new reality, we are rooted to the spot. Do please sit down, says the lady with a slight catch in her throat. We are seated on wooden chairs along one side of an oak table, although we cannot recall how we got there, some slip of the memory perhaps. We have no sense of foreboding, Estelle's serenity has passed to all of us. We can stay here eating scones and jam until the end of time. The lady removes her shawl and reveals a face as beautiful as anyone's mother's. Her deep black eyes glisten like obsidian. She beams a smile of welcome and pours the tea. I'm glad you have come. I've been expecting you, she begins. You must have a thousand questions, so do please ask away. Well, says Steve, what is this door that we passed through? Is this another world? There is no other world, the lady replies, this is the only one. But there is! There is! starts Dave excitedly, Look!. He gets up quickly from the chair, knocking it over in his haste and rushes to the door to open it. He pulls at it with all his force and reveals a black nothingness behind it. We were on the hill, where's it gone? he shouts, what have you done to it? There is no hill. But you climbed the hill in front of us says Gloria. There is no hill. Even Estelle of the serene demeanour is beginning to look worried. How did we get here then, how did you get here, she asks the lady nervously. We have all been here since the beginning of time, the catch in the lady's throat is becoming more evident. No, we have our families down there in the town cries Estelle You have no families,.

Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.927181 Composed by George Willson. Blues,Jazz. Score and parts. 46 pages. George Willson #6359467. Published by George Willson (A0.927181). Written for the T-Town Jazz Band and named for a Tulsa landmark, this is a big band swing tune in F minor blues with solos and exposure aplenty most notably in the third trombone part. The piece follows a chap who is happily walking (or jaunting) down Cherry Street. Three other guys come in and pick up his melody as a unison trio. This moves into a quick verse in the ensemble before the four players each take a solo turn almost like a combo. The party then takes off with the full band before it moves back to the trio wandering off while crowd bids them farewell and the original soloist takes a final turn. The reason there is such a focus on the third trombone is because this piece is dedicated to Dale Turner who was the third trombone player in the T-Town Jazz Band and a founding member of the band. We tried to get him to improv a solo here and there, but he wouldn't do it. We figured if we wrote it into his part, he would play it, and so the next piece I was writing was Cherry Street Jaunt, so the 3rd trombone got a lot of love. Unfortunately, the band had to shut down for a time due to COVID-19, and during that time, Dale passed due to complications from it. As a result, he never saw the part I wrote to trick him into a solo. The MP3 is generated from the composition program, but the video link is a live performance.

Organ - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.575684 Composed by David Warin Solomons. Contemporary. Score. 4 pages. David Warin Solomons #44021. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.575684). This is one of a suite of organ pieces composed by David W Solomons performed by David Carlston Williams for a CD in June 2015 The suggested order for this suite is: 1. Passacaglia: based on an ostinato passage in 3 time. The idea behind the passacaglia relates to the origin of the word, it is basically a gentle stroll down the street (pasar la calle in Spanish, which was converted into Passacaglia in Italian) 2. Dorina: a descriptive piece in Dorian mode based on a song about a cat, from the aptly named village of Chattevoix, who stalks, but never catches, a little bird. 3. Playtime: also about a cat, the composer's own cat who is playful and rushes around the house but occasionally stopping to pummel the soft furnishings. 4. Early Evening in Camden Town: a more serious and sad piece - in 3-3-2 time. It is an evocation of the poor folk in Camden and their dreams of what could be, if only….. It was originally a song, which the composer wrote when he was living in London, based on a poem by fellow Londoner Sandra Erös The streets are part of a toy town, waiting to be played with…. 5. The Bishop's Dance: a curious and comical piece in 11 time (3, 3, 3, 2). It comes from the legend of Robin Hood, in which Robin meets the bishop of Hereford, who had hoped to get the better of him, but Robin prevails and forces him to dance. The clumsy attempts of the ungainly Bishop to obey Robin's commands cause great merriment among the merry men To quote our vicar, Rev Barbara, after the recital For me music paints a picture, and, for that, I have got this picture of someone going for a stroll in their village and then they came across a very old cat wandering down the street imaging it could catch birds but never catching them. And then it would lie down for a sleep and dream of the days when it was a kitten.... It was a very reflective programme and turns our mind about What for the Autumn, what do we need to do next.. it really did fit in with the mood of the year, as we turn towards building up the programme for next year... So thank you, it gave us time to reflect in a very beautiful manner.... The rest of the suite is also available on this site: separately (with performances by David Carlston Williams) and as a set (with David's performance of Passacaglia).
