The Edmund Fitzgerald - Concerto for Piano and Strings

String Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.942953 Composed by Geoffrey Peterson. Contemporary. Score and parts. 43 pages. Geoffrey Peterson #4267231. Published by Geoffrey Peterson (A0.942953). Link to complete recording: https://soundcloud.com/geoffrey-peterson/sets/the-edmund-fitzgerald-concerto On November 9th, 1975, the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald left port in Superior, Wisconsin. The 729-foot-long iron ore carrier, loaded with 26 thousand tons of taconite pellets for the auto industry, was bound for Detroit. Earlier that day, the weather service had issued a gale warning. This was not unusual, considering that gale storms are typical during November on Lake Superior. The Fitzgerald’s Captain, Ernest McSorley, and her 29-member crew headed northeast unaware of the maelstrom they would soon encounter. At around 2 a.m., Bernie Cooper, captain of the Arthur M. Andersen, another freighter which was following a few miles behind the Fitzgerald, radioed Captain McSorley to consult with him about the worsening storm. They had both decided to take a more northerly route along the Canadian shore, which they hoped would provide some shelter from the violent gale winds and waves. The Fitzgerald’s long-range radar stopped working the following day and was needed in order to avoid Six-Fathom Shoal, a shallow area of Lake Superior that could rupture the ship’s hull. McSorley soon radioed the Anderson to report that the Fitzgerald had sustained some topside damage...a fence rail down, two vents lost or damaged, and a starboard list. A list meant that the Fitzgerald was taking on too much water and was causing it to lean to one side. The short-range radar also stopped working, and the radio direction beacon from nearby Whitefish Point vanished. This would make it impossible for the Fitzgerald to reach the lee waters of Whitefish Bay and escape the 80 mph winds churning 20 to 30-foot waves. At 7:10 p.m. that night, First Mate Morgan Clark of the Andersen radioed the Fitzgerald to see how they were doing. Captain McSorley replied, We’re holding our own. This was the last contact anyone would have with the Fitzgerald. Shortly thereafter, the Edmund Fitzgerald disappeared from the Anderson’s radar screen. All 29 of her crew were lost on November 10th, 1975. The Edmund Fitzgerald chronicles the tragic final voyage of the well-known shipwreck in 4 movements; Embarkment, The Gales, Six-Fathom Shoal (We’re holding our own.) and Entombment-Dirge. The concerto makes use of several musical quotes. The first is Spanish Ladies, an English sea chantey, which appears in both the 1st and 3rd movements. The second is the funeral march theme from the 2nd movement of Beethoven’s 3rd Symphony which is heard in the 4th movement of the concerto. In addition, a chime is rung 29 times during the final bars of the concerto to memorialize the men who lost their lives. The Crew of the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald: Michael E. Armagost, Frederick J. Beetcher, Thomas D. Bentsen, Edward F. Bindon, Thomas D. Borgeson, Oliver J. Champeau, Nolan S. Church, Ransom E. Cundy, Thomas E. Edwards, Russell G. Haskell, George J. Holl, Bruce L. Small Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1021989 Composed by Michael J. Burns. Contemporary. Score and parts. 43 pages. Effiny Music #6273591. Published by Effiny Music (A0.1021989). The original version of E Toro nga Hau: The Three Winds was written for oboe, clarinet and bassoon in 2001 and premiered by the Eastwind Trio d’Anches (the faculty reed trio from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with the composer on bassoon) during a tour in New Zealand and Australia in May 2001. The premiere of the version for saxophone trio was performed by members of the Red Clay Saxophone Quartet on February 5, 2008.E Toro nga Hau: The Three Winds was inspired by the Australasian tour and my return home to New Zealand as a performer. Another inspiration was that my dear Grandmother passed away at the age of 94 in February 2001. Due to this there are elements of sadness and happiness throughout the piece. The bittersweet first movement begins melancholy, with a melody that freely switches between minor and major modes, but ends up with a lively dancing section focusing on happy memories, where the chickens from my grandmother’s farm may even be heard. The second movement is lively throughout with extensive use of mixed meter and includes a jazz rock interlude. While the work does not contain any actual New Zealand elements in the music, it was evocative of my time spent there growing up. It is in a style typical of my writing, containing jazzy influences combined with the more traditional. The title is given in Maori (the language of the native Polynesian race in New Zealand) and English and merely relates to the fact that it is written for three woodwind instruments. This work has been performed throughout North America and the South Pacific. This work also exists in two double reed versions: one for oboe, English horn, and bassoon, and another for oboe and two bassoons.

Composed by Richard Wagner. This edition: vocal/piano score. Initial release - opera - theater. Wagner Urtext Piano/Vocal Scores. Downloadable, Piano reduction. Schott Music - Digital #Q25918. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q25918). German. An important addition to our newly produced orchestral materials is the first publication of vocal scores of Wagner’s ten great operas, in every important version, based on the Complete Edition. * The score corresponds to the performance materials from the Complete Edition. * For practical use in rehearsal cues and bar numbers throughout. * The publisher has secured the services of renewed musicologists associated with the Richard Wagner Complete Edition who convey detailed information in critical forewords. * The forewords are given in three languages(German, English, French). * Uniform and attractive front cover designs with reproductions of paintings from the Wagner era underline the series design of the edition. DER FLIEGENDE HOLLÄNDER (1842-1880 version) This piano reduction is based on the edition of Der fliegende Holländer from the Critical Complete Edition of Richard Wagner’s works (Richard Wagner, Sämtliche Werke [Collected works], Vol. 4, III-VI, edited by Egon Voss, Mainz, 2000f.) The primary source for this edition was the first print of the score dating from 1845 which had however been augmented utilising the sources of additions undertaken after 1845, meaning that this edition is actually a compilation of the final versions of all individual sections or relevant details. The overture for example dates back to 1860 whereas No. 1 appears in the version from 1864. What is however most significant is that the versions from the Collected Editions based on new sources is without doubt closer to the original than the score from 1897 edited by Felix Weingartner which had previously formed the basis for all editions and logically also for all performances.†(Egon Voss, quoted from the foreword of the new Der fliegende Holländer vocal score) Original version and 1842-1880 version The original version of Der fliegende Holländer dates from 1841. Wagner, at the time a completely unknown Kapellmeister in France, trying to get a foothold in Paris, saw the opportunity for a stage work that would meet the fashion at the Paris Opera of performing several short works one after another. Der fliegende Holländer, conceived in 1840 and composed in 1841, seemed to him suited to the purpose. In 1841, even when Wagner no longer counted on a success in Paris, he still held to the conception of a one-act opera and offered the work to German opera houses under the title of “Romantic Opera in One Act and Three Scenesâ€. This version is set in Scotland, taking as the literary model for the opera Heinrich Heine’s novel fragment “From the Memoirs of Mr. Schnabelewopskiâ€, and the protagonists have English names. This version was never performed in Wagner’s lifetime. Beginning in 1842, the work went through a tale of constant revision: Even before the Dresden premiere (2nd January 1843) Wagner undertook fundamental alterations. He transposed the location from Scotland to Norway, changed character’s names as appropriate, divided the opera into three acts – not least due to considerations of scene changes – and transposed Senta’s Ballad from A minor to G minor. It was in this version that the score of the opera went to print in 1845. For a performance in 1860 he composed the later so-called ‘Tristan’ or ‘Redemption’ ending to the Overture. Until the very end of his life, Wagner contemplated a plan for a final score or a definitive vocal score: it never came to be, so that to this day, as with Tannhäuser, we still do not have Der fliegende Holländer in a final version. Based on the research conducted in the creation of the Complete Edition, our editions contain, in one case the original version of 1841, while the other essentially goes back to the first printing of the score of 1845, but with the addition of the source material for the retouchings dating from 1842 to 1889. VOCAL SCORES The original version of the opera was made available for the first time in a vocal score in 2005 (ED 8065). The completely revised new edition of the vocal score of the 1842-1880 version appeared in 2011 (ED 20531).

Full Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.597316 By George Frideric Handel. By George Frideric Handel. Arranged by Flavio Regis Cunha. Baroque,Contest,Easter,Festival,Instructional,Sacred. Score and Parts. 15 pages. Flavio Regis Cunha #5355195. Published by Flavio Regis Cunha (A0.597316). The Keyboard suite in D minor (HWV 437) was composed by George Frideric Händel, for solo keyboard (harpsichord), between 1703 and 1706. It is also referred to as Suite de pièce Vol. 2 No. 4. It was first published in 1733.The piece was used in an orchestral arrangement for Stanley Kubrick's Barry Lyndon. Dutch singer Petra Berger used the Sarabande as the musical setting for her song about Mary, Queen of Scots, Still a Queen (In My End Is My Beginning), from her album Eternal Woman (2001). An orchestral version was also used on the first episode of the 2018 television mini-series of Agatha Christie's A.B.C. Murders, starring John Malkovich as Poirot. This beautiful arrangement for orchestra brings in its variations, an intercalation of orchestral forces and different climaxes. The first part of the theme starts on the strings accompanied by the continuum. The second part includes the metals and the tympani. In the first variation, the theme is played by a group of strings, within a chamber proposal. In the third variation, the strings give way to the woodwinds, where horns, trombones talk to the woodwinds. In the fourth variation, the same group of winds remains, but they are accompanied by the ow strings. Finally, in the last variation, the orchestral force appears with brilliance and intensity.
